Chapter 14 - Trouble from the Sand Sea Sect

The Jiang family’s Foundation Establishment elder, Jiang Tai, knelt in front of the Lin family’s gate, his voice echoing as he spoke.

He knew now that Jiang Tianyang had underestimated the Lin family, and so had everyone in the Jiang family.

There was no hope left for their fate. But as the eldest of the Jiang family, Jiang Tai refused to watch the entire clan be annihilated.

Even if there was no chance, he had to try. To preserve what remained of the family, he was willing to sacrifice his dignity, cultivation, even his life.

“Sand Sea Sect?” Lin Xuan murmured, his face calm and expressionless.

He had already been aware that Jiang Tianyang’s son, Jiang Haoyun, had joined the Sand Sea Sect, but it hadn’t been something he considered worth worrying about.

Now, with Jiang Tai pleading on behalf of the remaining family members and mentioning the Sand Sea Sect again, Lin Xuan realized that Jiang Haoyun could indeed become a troublesome issue in the future.

After wiping out the Jiang family, he would have to deal with Jiang Haoyun as soon as possible.

“Senior, my junior brother Haoyun has caught the attention of a Golden Core elder from our sect. He will soon be accepted as a personal disciple,” a black-clad man appeared beside Jiang Tai, speaking quickly.

“Even if you don’t care about Haoyun, please show some consideration for the Golden Core elder and spare the remaining Jiang family members.”

“Once I return to the sect, I will persuade Haoyun to focus on cultivation and sever his ties with the mundane world. He will not trouble you,” the black-clad man continued.

“Yes, yes, let Haoyun continue his cultivation at the Sand Sea Sect. There is no need for him to know about the matters concerning the family,” Jiang Tai quickly added, feeling a glimmer of hope for their survival.

“The Jiang family has a disciple in the Sand Sea Sect? This could indeed be troublesome,” some of the Lin family elders whispered among themselves, their expressions serious.

“Our clan only has the clan leader as a Golden Core cultivator, but the Sand Sea Sect has many Golden Core experts, and even some Nascent Souls…”

“I wonder if the clan leader will agree. Letting the Jiang family live would certainly be a future problem.”

Hearing these murmurs, Lin Xuan frowned and activated his Insightful Eye.

[Name: Sha Shaoxiong (Black)]

[Affiliation: Inner Disciple of the Sand Sea Sect]

[Cultivation: Foundation Establishment (Peak)]

[Spirit Root: Variant Spirit Root (Sand)]

[Techniques: Yellow Sand Technique (Mid-Grade Mysterious Tier)]

[Skills: Sand Manipulation (Upper-Grade Mortal Tier)…]

Everything about Sha Shaoxiong seemed typical, except for the black aura of his fortune. This made Lin Xuan look twice.

A disciple from a major sect, with decent aptitude and cultivation at the peak of Foundation Establishment, and yet a fortune marked by black? It didn’t quite add up.

“Could this guy be one of those throwaway villains in novels, the kind who don’t survive more than a few chapters?”

Sha Shaoxiong showing up at this critical moment, trying to prevent Lin Xuan from eliminating the Jiang family, was practically begging for death.

Though his words made it seem like he was being reasonable, there was a clear tone of arrogance, as if Lin Xuan, a Golden Core expert, wasn’t worth taking seriously.

“Forget it. An arrogant sect disciple who doesn’t understand his place… If I don’t remove him now, the heavens surely will.”

With that thought, Lin Xuan raised his hand, forming his fingers into a sword as he slashed toward Sha Shaoxiong and the remaining Jiang family members.

“Senior, we are both Golden Core cultivators, and my sect…” Sha Shaoxiong began to speak again, thinking Lin Xuan was hesitating. But before he could finish, he felt a sudden heaviness, and then his head was separated from his body.

Next to him, Jiang Tai and the remaining Jiang family members also met the same fate, their necks severed and blood spilling forth.

“Clan leader, this…” The Lin family elders had assumed Lin Xuan might negotiate, but they hadn’t expected him to act so decisively.

“What ‘this’? Don’t just stand there—go to the Jiang family estate and finish off the rest. Do I need to spell everything out?” Lin Xuan’s cold voice snapped them back to reality.

“Understood, we’re on our way!” The elders quickly responded, rushing toward the Jiang family estate without delay.

Dealing with possible retaliation from the Sand Sea Sect was a concern for the future, but Lin Xuan’s current wrath was an immediate issue. The elders understood which took precedence.

Besides, if the Sand Sea Sect truly sought revenge, it would be the stronger members of the family who would face the challenge first. If the clan leader was unafraid, then what reason did they have to fear?

Lin Xuan hadn’t wanted to stir up trouble with the Sand Sea Sect, but with Sha Shaoxiong practically delivering himself as an offering, there was no way he would let him live.

As for any potential retaliation, Lin Xuan was unconcerned. Unless a Nascent Soul elder intervened personally, no one could touch the Lin family.

And this was just the beginning of the Lin family’s development. In the future, when the Lin family was stronger, even Nascent Souls would be insignificant. At that point, one of the family’s young prodigies would be enough to deal with them.

However, Lin Xuan was dissatisfied with the current elders’ performance. The real powerhouses from the Sand Sea Sect hadn’t even arrived, and yet they were already thrown into disarray by a mere disciple.

With such lackluster composure and foresight, how were they fit to be elders?

“When Lin Chen and the others mature, I’ll have these old folks retire and take care of the children.”

Although he wanted to replace them now, circumstances did not yet allow it. For the time being, the current elders would have to remain in their positions. Once the opportunity arose, however, the system would be restructured—the competent would rise, while the incompetent would be replaced.

After taking one last look at the bloodstains near the gate, Lin Xuan transformed into a streak of light and flew toward the family’s medical pavilion.

Inside the medical pavilion.

“Sigh, I’ve done everything I can,” the physician said gravely, walking out of the room. “His injuries are too severe, and his consciousness is fading. It’s hard to say whether he’ll survive.”

“Is there really no other way?” The man outside the room asked anxiously. The clan leader had given strict orders for Lin Song to be treated, and failure to save him would result in punishment for everyone involved.

“I’ve already given him a healing pill, but it hasn’t helped much,” the physician replied, thinking for a moment. “If we want to save him, we’d need a higher-grade healing pill, but such treasures… even the clan leader might not have one.”

“Well, I’ll report this to the elders and hope they won’t hold me responsible,” the man sighed, understanding that such precious pills were unlikely to be found within the clan.

“There might be another way,” a faint voice suddenly spoke from the side.

The physician turned to see Lin Chen, an apprentice at the medical pavilion, who had spoken up. His face darkened, and he sternly asked, “Lin Chen, what could you possibly know?”

Healing was not something to be taken lightly. If even an experienced physician had no solution, what could a mere apprentice suggest?
