Chapter 25 - Mental Stabilizers (Part One)
After facing the first harsh reality of interstellar life, Jiang Hui completely returned to the practicalities of life, tidied up, and went back to bed, preparing to truly sleep.
It was already a little past one in the morning, and after experiencing so much in one day, anyone would feel tired and want to rest.
Jiang Hui certainly felt the same… Wait, what was going on? She couldn’t sleep like this?! Had the bodies of interstellar beings been enhanced to the point that they didn’t need sleep anymore?
She nestled in bed, staring into the dark void, her big eyes wide open as she engaged in a staring contest with the darkness, becoming increasingly alert. Was it because she had taken a one-hour nap at the hospital yesterday afternoon that her body felt rested enough?
But according to the memories of her original self, interstellar beings’ rest periods were no different from those of Blue Star people.
Jiang Hui was utterly perplexed.
When a person wants to sleep but cannot at all, it truly becomes a great torment. She started out calmly but soon began to bounce her left foot and then her right, feeling restless all over, yet sleep eluded her.
She glanced at the time again… Wow, a long time had passed, a whole hour!
She was about to go crazy. Jiang Hui sprang up from the bed, rummaging through her things to find a set of spare bedding to replace the current one.
This should work, right? A new, unused blanket wouldn’t have any lingering scents. The girl sank into the soft bed, and then—
Still unable to sleep.
Someone had completely lost their mind and started trying all sorts of methods to force herself to fall asleep.
Unfortunately, until dawn, with the first ray of light shining into the room, Jiang Hui still couldn’t manage to sleep.
Despite being tormented by insomnia all night, she remained energetic; a whole night without sleep did not diminish her vitality.
At this point, it was clearly impossible to lie in bed any longer, so she had to change into some fresh clothes, stroll around the hall, and look for something to eat.
This was already the second day since she woke up in the interstellar world, and her fluctuating emotions had calmed down considerably. She was gradually coming to terms with her situation and was relatively positive about adapting.
Jiang Hui subtly avoided the colored takeaway box she had chosen last night and sat on the sofa in front of the living room, holding another processed fast-food item while watching TV. Oh, it seemed this was called “Star Vision.”
“×&%¥#@ Legion Expedition, suspected alien nest discovered in the outer star NT-8439579…”
“A certain district in the capital star of the Central Star Region holds a smart robot design competition; a talented student from XXX University wins the championship. Reportedly, they are not yet seventeen and have not undergone a second awakening…”
“Captain XX of the XX Legion went missing at 7:45 star time yesterday on the frontier, with radar detecting a momentary loss of life signs, suspected to have encountered a high-molecular instant teleportation black hole…”
“Submission of the fifth upgrade application for the satellite of the inner ring star system numbered RJ-589358; there may be a hope of adding another main star to the sixty main stars of the inner ring.”
“Interstellar superstar XXX accepts an interview from Star Record for the first time. They originally hailed from a heavenly-class planet in a permanent star system and, after years of hard work, settled in the capital star system, inspiring thousands of capital drifters…”
Jiang Hui wasn’t very familiar with many of the topics and didn’t feel much connection to them. She just watched idly as background noise. Hmm, putting aside everything else, this braised pork rice actually tasted pretty good.
“Recently, a neutral meteor shower descended upon the B-ring area of the permanent star system, causing a series of disturbances in the natural magnetic fields of several planets. Some creatures have exhibited unusual shadow movements. According to reports from Star Record, some residents felt unusually restless in their mental energy while sleeping, possibly affected by quantum energy…”
Suddenly, a piece of news caught Jiang Hui’s attention, and her hands paused in their movements.
She remembered that in her last moments on Blue Star, she was watching a meteor shower, yet she seemed to have missed it right up until the last moment.
And that very night she arrived, there was also a meteor shower in the permanent star system…
Could there be a connection between the two? Or was it just a coincidence? Jiang Hui became lost in thought.
“Ding ding—” She was jolted back to reality by a series of ringing sounds.
At this moment, Jiang Hui could naturally open the light brain, just like checking her phone, to see if anyone had sent her messages.
One message was a notification from the hospital, congratulating her on her recovery and discharge. It also reminded her to take her mental stabilizers on time and specified when she needed to return to the hospital for a follow-up check.
Jiang Hui read it carefully twice and, confirming she hadn’t missed anything, set a reminder for the follow-up appointment to notify her half a day in advance.
After thinking for a moment, she took out a row of mental stabilizers from the space pouch and placed them on the table, preparing to research how to use them.
She then shifted her gaze to the second message. This one was clearly different from the previous generic notification from the hospital system; it was a personal message from the work department, with the suffix indicating it was from the after-sales department, Harimu.
Jiang Hui’s eyes lingered on the prefix from the Hailusi Group before finally clicking to open it.
The message was brief, simply asking her to come to the Hailusi Group tomorrow to discuss compensation matters. The wording was quite polite but also formal, carrying a tone of indifference and superiority.
This group was really redefining her understanding of interstellar swindlers.
Last time they at least sent a living person; this time, not even a person came, just a notification? They expected her to go to their group for negotiations… Why didn’t they just go to the sky?! It wasn’t like she was begging them.
Moreover, she now remembered how the original body met with misfortune, and it was closely related to their product. She hadn’t taken revenge for the original body yet, and they were already trying to butter her up.
If they weren’t sincere, they shouldn’t pretend to be generous. Did they really think she was a child who could be easily manipulated? That would be laughable.
Jiang Hui scoffed, decisively closed the message window, and then added them to her blacklist.
Not going!
After blocking some unpleasant people, Jiang Hui scrolled down through the communication section, roughly checking the recent communication records and messages on her light brain, intending to see if anyone had contacted the original owner lately.
But perhaps because the local signal tower wasn’t blocked, as she scrolled down, she found mostly local information and political district alerts, mixed with plenty of advertisements, and not a single serious message.
After going through the past week, she still didn’t find any useful or missed information, and no one had contacted the original owner recently, so she had to give up.
However, Jiang Hui’s gaze was too hasty, and she didn’t notice the last message she had overlooked, which was clearly different from the previous information and advertisements. It was marked as “Medium Star Zone – Beska Intermediate Academy.”
But at that moment, she was still unaware, leisurely scrolling through more information, and then turned her gaze to the row of mental stabilizers on the table.
Sigh, no matter how long she procrastinated, she still couldn’t escape taking her medication.
It was just a mental stabilizer. Since the hospital told her to come back and take it, it must be absolutely safe, so there’s no need to panic, right?
