Chapter 212 - Divine Cat Mii-chan Listens to the Story of the Munakata Siblings
212 Divine Cat Mii-chan Listens to the Story of the Munakata Siblings
Alex said there was no need to worry, so I headed home. But is it really okay?
As I was about to enter my house, Lu-kun and Lal-kun ran up to me, making their usual cute sounds, “wafwaf” and “kyuu kyuu.” They always lick my face, but today Lal-kun is especially thorough with the licking.
“I met Lal-kun’s father and sister today. Do you understand?”
“Kyuu!”
“Your sister is going to start working at the Divine Cat Trading Company, so I’ll bring her here next time.”
“Mii.”
“Kyuu!”
Lal-kun is wagging his tail happily. Why does he look just like a puppy? Maybe my perception is off…
I entered the house and sat down for a late dinner with Mii-chan. It wasn’t lonely, not even a hint of that feeling. In fact, it was the opposite—noisy. Why is there a party going on? Jin and the others, shouldn’t they be heading home? Well, if they don’t have any pressing matters, I guess it’s fine. From what Lucas told me, they’ve received quite a large sum of money as lodging fees, so even if this continues for a month, they’d still be in the black.
Just as I finished eating, the Munakata siblings sat across from me. What’s this about?
“We’ve been thinking,” the sister started.
“About what we can do,” her brother added.
They handed me a piece of paper. Glancing at it, I saw a list of things they wanted to do.
Let’s see… they want to become adventurers? There are no adventurer guilds in this world! There’s the Hunter Guild, isn’t there? They want to create a fluffy kingdom and become Nanatsugoro… Nope, I’m not gonna comment on that… Definitely not.
I skim through the rest. They want to visit labyrinths, use their skills for farming, and something that really touched me—”We want to help our seniors.” Farming might be too much, but since we have a field, it’d be nice to plant something. Right now, old man Ben is just growing a few vegetables for fun, but I’d like to cultivate something more unique.
They also want to open a sweets shop. Not impossible, but I’m sure they mean a cake shop. The biggest problems would be milk, eggs, and most importantly, sugar. Without solving those three issues, it would be tough. They’d have to either contract a private farm or grow the ingredients themselves. Sugar, in particular, is a major hurdle. I’ve read that southern countries make it from sugarcane, but most of it is imported. Could it be grown in southern Hildenburg? That’s something to investigate.
“Cakes might be difficult. They have baking powder, but a lot of the ingredients are hard to come by.”
“We’re not fixated on cake! We just want to eat sweet bread,” the brother said eagerly.
“The bread in this world isn’t very tasty,” his sister added.
“It’s not that it’s bad, it’s just hard,” I agreed.
“That’s probably because they don’t use yeast. Since you’ve been eating dried fruit, I think we can make yeast from it.”
“Does that mean we could make fluffy bread?” they asked.
“Of course! I’m sure it’ll be delicious,” I replied confidently.
That’s amazing. There’s white bread here, but it doesn’t come close to the bread we had in Japan. If we can make yeast… we’d be swimming in profits.
And then, on the very last line: We want to make sake.
“What do you mean by sake?”
“Our family used to run a traditional sake brewery.”
“We’ve been helping out since we were little, so we figured we could make it since we have rice and koji.”
“I’ll invest! Make it happen right away!”
“Well, not right away…”
“How much knowledge do you have? I’m planning on making distilled liquor soon, do you know anything about that?”
“Well, we made shochu at home, so it shouldn’t be a problem.”
“Yes, we handled both moromi and kasutori, so I think we can manage.”
Wow, this is an unexpected knowledge cheat. I don’t fully understand what they’re saying, but it sounds like they have plenty of knowledge and experience. Sake and shochu… this might spark an alcohol revolution! There was even a time when sake was called an elixir in Europe. This is going to be fun. But we’ll have to be careful about information leaks; it might be better to do this in the fairy territory.
“I need you to create a detailed plan. List all the necessary materials and equipment. And this is top secret, understood?”
“Y-Yes!” they both replied.
Heh heh heh… The one who controls alcohol controls the world. I’m going to become the king of sake brewing!
“Mii…”
Ah, Mii-chan, it was just a joke… Don’t look at me with those pitying eyes, it’s embarrassing. Besides, you’re the Black Pearl King, too.
“M-Mii…”
Mii-chan’s face twitched, remembering her own embarrassing past.
For now, the Munakata siblings will spend their days hunting and their nights drawing up the plan. It’ll be busy, but they’re young, so they’ll manage. I sound like an old man saying that, even though we’re around the same age…
And for Lu, it’s about time to start preparing for the Flowing Labyrinth. We also need to secure Quint’s base, so I’ll have him go ahead. The team will likely include Lu, Perro, Sera, Jin, Ilze, and Yan, if we can get their approval.
I’ll have Perro set up a transfer device board in a secluded spot at the base. That way, transportation will be easy. Mii-chan and I won’t be staying there all the time, so we’ll return here occasionally.
Things are going to get busy again. There’s so much I want to do.
“Mii.”
That night, still buzzing with excitement, Letty came to visit me. I jokingly thought, “My chastity is at risk!” But when I heard what she had to say, I froze, unable to move.
I couldn’t understand what Letty was saying… When I saw my reflection in the dimly lit mirror, I looked like I was crying… Why am I crying? Have I ever cried since coming to this world?
“Mii…”
