Chapter 208 - Divine Cat Mii-chan Won't Lose to Retou-san
208 Divine Cat Mii-chan Won’t Lose to Retou-san
When everyone except Yuri returned, I gathered the four white wolves and introduced them to all the members of the household.
Why are Jin-san and the others here too?
“The white wolves…”
“Yeah, white wolves.”
“Looking at them like this, they’re so fluffy and cute.”
I explained that from today, the four wolves would be guarding the mansion and the ranch. Each wolf pressed their noses to everyone, seemingly memorizing their scents.
“So, since they’re in charge of security, these four will be my subordinates, right?”
Letty, the fluff-loving fanatic, had a goofy grin and was wriggling her hands in anticipation. Letty, you’re scaring the wolves… please go easy on them.
“Nero-sama, is it really okay to let monsters into the town?”
“Huh? Is it bad?”
“Mii?”
“Nero, it’s not about bad or good; it’s just common sense, isn’t it?”
“But Lu-kun is a white wolf too, right?”
“……”
Wait, did they not know? Perro and Sera were patting the heads of the wolves. Stop it, that’s workplace harassment.
“Even so, I think it’s necessary to get permission…”
“From who?”
“……”
“Probably from the government or the Hunter’s Guild, right?”
“Okay… I’ll go take care of that later.”
Yana ran into the mansion, returned with something in hand, and began wrapping large scarves around the necks of each wolf.
“This way, they might not look like monsters as much.”
I see, wild monsters don’t wear scarves. Nice idea, Yana! By the way, Yana, we can all tell you’re secretly enjoying the fluffiness while wrapping the scarves. Except for maybe you, everyone noticed. Even clueless Kaya-chan joined in on the fluff fest.
Later that night, after Yuri returned, I introduced them to Kai. Yuri was surprised, and Kai clung to Yuri, frozen. Mii-chan, please give Kai a good licking later.
“Mii~.”
The next day, I went to Wilhelm early in the morning and splurged on seafood, dried goods, and delicacies at the market. Everything was fresh and cheap, so I couldn’t help but overbuy. It’s okay, though—some of it is for Retou-san as a gift.
When I visited the spot where I previously boarded the military ship, the captain was there, so I called out.
“I’ve heard the story. We’ll be departing soon, so you can board and wait.”
I boarded the ship with Sumire, and just as the captain said, preparations for departure began quickly, and the ship soon set sail. Once it left the harbor, it spread its sails and smoothly glided over the water. The sea breeze felt refreshing.
“Mii~.”
Upon arriving at the island, the captain gave a parting word.
“The ship leaves at the third bell in the afternoon. If you’re late, the next return will be in ten days, so don’t be late.”
I hopped on Sumire and rushed to Retou-san’s temple. A few dragons flew overhead, but they didn’t seem to care about us.
When we arrived at the temple, Mii-chan and I entered and called out in a loud voice.
“Excuse me! It’s Nero and Mii-chan. Is Retou-san here?”
“Mii~.”
“Hey, no need to shout, I can hear you. I’m coming over.”
Since it was a large building, I thought they wouldn’t hear me, but apparently, that was unnecessary.
“Yo!”
Retou-san casually raised one hand in greeting. Such a laid-back greeting… does anyone really think he’s an incredible dragon?
“Looks like you’ve brought something. Let’s head outside; the weather’s nice.”
Seeing this, I wondered if anyone would guess that he’s actually an amazing dragon. Outside, Sumire glanced at me but showed no interest—she’s truly unfazed by anything. Sumire-neesan, you’re just too cool.
“Hmm. You’re quite a strong-willed woman. I don’t dislike that. Very well, I’ll grant you my blessing.”
Sumire shuddered as if to say, “I don’t need that.”
“Oh, come on. Something good might come of it, you know.”
“What exactly might that be?”
“I don’t know.”
When I appraised Sumire, I saw that she had gained the blessing of the Dimensional Dragon. It was described as bringing various beneficial effects… but it was vague and sounded really good.
“I want one too!”
“Hm? Oh, you do? But… giving it to you, when you’re already accompanied by a divine familiar, might be tricky.”
“Mii~.”
“Really? It’s okay? Well then, since I got permission, I’ll give it to you as a special favor. This really is special, you know.”
Wow, I got it too! I hope something good comes from this.
“Thank you, Retou-san. And thanks to you too, Mii-chan.”
“No problem.”
“Mii~.”
Mii-chan, happy about it, licked my face in gratitude. As a thank you, I gave her a little kiss in return.
Since we were outside, I decided to grill some of the fish I had just bought. I gathered firewood, lit a fire, skewered the fish, and sprinkled some with salt while leaving others plain. While the fish cooked, I laid out some delicacies and served chilled ale.
“Ahh, delicious!”
Mii-chan sipped her mineral water and, though she couldn’t pour the drinks, kept Retou-san company.
“It’s a shame the divine familiar can’t drink too.”
“Mii~.”
Once the fish had mostly cooked, I spread miso on the unsalted ones and brought them closer to the fire again. The fragrant aroma of roasting miso made my mouth water.
When I served the grilled fish, Retou-san bit into it heartily. I wondered if he was okay with the bones, but it was clearly a pointless concern.
I flaked some fish and mixed it with the roasted miso to eat. So good! Mii-chan glanced at me, so I flaked a little bit of fish, added a tiny amount of roasted miso, and placed it on a dish in front of her. After sniffing it, she glanced at Retou-san, who was eating his fish with gusto, and seemed to decide that she couldn’t lose. She started nibbling away. Wow—Mii-chan’s eating fish!
Feeling excited, I filleted a white fish similar to sea bream into sashimi and plated it. I brought out some soy sauce in a small dish and placed a piece of sashimi, lightly dipped in soy sauce, on Mii-chan’s plate. After giving me one look, she started nibbling at it too.
Has Mii-chan awakened to the taste of fish?
“Mii~!”
