Ch27 - Sled Building
Chapter 27: Sled Building
(Glare’s Perspective)
This is absolutely infuriating!!!
I forced the jumping mushroom into the prince’s mouth. While it might make him act strangely, it won’t actually make him sick.
El-sama, always so kind and considerate, asked, “Are you sure it’s okay to give that to him when he was already feeling unwell?” But since the unicorn’s intuition says it’s fine, it’ll probably work out somehow.
The prince jumped up suddenly.
“Whoa?!”
“You were sleeping soundly, weren’t you? Your condition should be fully recovered now. We’re back to where we started. Now, could you make the sled?”
“Back to where we started… sled…?”
The prince clutched his head, trying to recall what happened.
I erased his memories of the part where El-sama’s winter fur was melting.
El-sama was embarrassed to be seen like that. Well, it’s understandable since looking like you’ve just been skinned is a bit too much like prey about to be eaten. When I mentioned that, El-sama half-jokingly called me an “insensitive beast” with a sideways glance.
What’s so insensitive? Where exactly? El-sama was enjoying that blue boar we had this morning, wasn’t he?
As a member of the Fenrir race, you must be at the top. So please, don’t expose your bare skin so recklessly like prey.
I need to remind Levi about the temperature too.
As I was pondering these things, the prince suddenly had a realization. Finally. Took you long enough.
“My apologies for keeping you waiting.”
Indeed, you should apologize.
El-sama, frowning, pinched my ear while saying, “I greeted Levi, and then he immediately lost consciousness. Maybe he ate a poisonous mushroom, or he might just be exhausted from the expedition.”
El-sama, it’s because you keep smiling like that that this guy gets carried away. Just like how I worship Fenrir? Well, it’s not entirely wrong, but it’s irritating to be lumped together with that prince!
This prince’s scent reminds me of an animal in heat. Humans call it “love,” indulging in such frivolous fantasies, but to look at the proud Fenrir race that way—disgusting!
El-sama seems to pity the prince. Please, don’t get too involved. This prince is in a slump, and it could dampen El-sama’s mood too.
“A tree is needed, right?”
With ice magic, Fenrir-sama felled a tree.
Magnificent!!! Now, take Fenrir-sama’s gift and make the sled.
“This is a splendid fir tree! A precious Abies alba. We are grateful for winter’s bounty.”
The prince offered a prayer. That part, I don’t dislike. Hmph.
El-sama murmured, “Abies alba? White in German, right…? Wait, why is there a mix of languages? Well, I guess it’s like hearing Katakana English all the time, maybe some kind of otherworldly translation?”
Does it really matter? It’s not something to be concerned about.
If there are words you don’t understand, I’ll teach you! As Fenrir’s assistant, that’s my job!!
“Fir is strong wood, but it tends to rot easily if not dried properly. Are you sure it’s okay to make the sled from this?”
“That only applies to firs in shallow forests. This magical tree here is flexible and sturdy, even if not fully dried. Plus, it blends well with winter, making it ideal for a sled… That’s what they say, Prince Christopher.”
I missed my chance!? Ugh…!
I let Fenrir-sama and El-sama handle the explanation… I could have done it too.
“Glare’s ears are drooping,” El-sama teased, pinching them.
“This won’t happen again!! Please, count on me next time!!”
“O-okay. Glare, are you fighting something?”
“It’s a matter of pride as an assistant.”
“Why not just get along?”
“Please don’t coddle me.”
“But I’m spoiled, so I want to thank everyone too.”
Such a good-hearted person.
The company that tormented El-sama should rot in hell. No, I’ll make sure they do. Seriously.
Meanwhile, the prince diligently cut the fir tree into timber. He mumbled about the tree rings being impressive and the white wood being beautiful, all while his hands kept working.
…I’ll give him points for that.
He built the sled with impressive skill.
It seems he had nails and repair tools ready in his toolbox as well.
“He’s well-suited to be an investigator.”
Fenrir-sama, huh?! I can’t… I can’t deny that, but still…!!
“That’s amazing!”
“Indeed!”
El-sama and Levi showered him with praise.
The prince blushed deeply, smiling…
(Isn’t he about to collapse? How weak.)
(Well…)
I asked in a low voice, and Fenrir-sama agreed.
Right?
“But he’s resilient and bounces back quickly. This time, he hasn’t fainted.”
I’ll admit, he’s persistent. As expected from Princess Michela’s bloodline.
…Now that I think about it, he’s also part of Fenrir-sama’s lineage. I might be starting to feel a bit of fondness toward him.
“This winter will be special. We need an excellent investigator with both forest knowledge and passion. I’m considering finding such personnel… If they’re royalty, it will be easier to communicate directly with the king.”
Fenrir-sama is closely observing the prince.
…Don’t be jealous, me.
Admiration can fuel effort, but jealousy only poisons the heart. What I should do is focus on being more useful to Fenrir-sama, not hating the prince.
—Okay, I’m settled.
El-sama wrapped the bottom of the sled in ice to make it glide better.
“Perfect! We did it!”
“Our first joint project, isn’t it?”
The prince gracefully took El-sama’s hand.
This love-struck idiot—!?!
I moved faster than I expected and brought down a hand chop.
The prince dodged!!
As expected… I can’t… stand him. Okay, fine, I’ll allow this much. Yes, I’ll forgive you.
“Glare, you’re tough on men, aren’t you?”
“I’m just being faithful to my duties. Now, let’s carry Levi!”
“I’m looking forward to it.”
“Let’s go.”
At Fenrir-sama’s command, everyone moved.
This feels so satisfying. Amazing!!!
The wooden sled is for one person, so Levi will ride on it, while the prince uses the ice sled.
And the one pulling the sleds… is the unicorn. Let’s go!!
