The Spider:AHero’s Awakening.

Chapter 12: Chapter 12: The Devil You Know

Hell's Kitchen was different from Queens.

The streets were darker, the buildings taller, and the air carried an edge of danger I wasn't used to. I perched on the edge of a rooftop, listening to the distant hum of the city below.

"Peter, are you certain about this?" Karen's voice chimed in my ear. "There are no confirmed locations for Daredevil."

"Tony said he's around here somewhere," I muttered, scanning the streets with my enhanced lenses. "And when it comes to this guy, word is he usually finds you."

And, like clockwork, my spider-sense tingled.

Before I could react, a blur of red moved behind me, and I felt something hit my wrist, pinning it to the rooftop with—wait, was that a baton?

A voice came from the shadows, calm but firm. "You shouldn't be here, Spider-Man."

I turned my head slowly and, sure enough, standing there in his iconic red suit, batons in hand, was Daredevil.

I grinned under my mask. "Finally! Man, do you know how hard you are to find?"

Daredevil didn't look amused. "I don't usually advertise."

I tugged at the baton holding my wrist. "Right. So, any chance we can talk like normal people?"

He yanked his baton back, letting me go. "Talk fast."

We moved to a quieter rooftop, away from prying eyes. Daredevil stood with his arms crossed, his head tilted slightly like he was listening for something beyond my understanding.

"I need your help," I said. "Osborn's cooking up something big, and I can't handle it alone."

Daredevil's lips tightened. "Osborn's a dangerous man. You don't think he's been running experiments for years?"

I nodded. "Yeah, but this is different. He's got tech, guys like Rhino and Shocker working for him, and now…" I hesitated, thinking of the symbiote. "Now he's messing with something worse."

Daredevil took a deep breath. "Venom."

My eyes widened. "You know?"

"I hear things," he said simply. "And I know Osborn's been pulling strings all over the city. But why come to me?"

I shrugged. "You're the guy who knows how to fight in the dark. And trust me, this is about to get really dark."

Daredevil turned his head slightly, listening again. "Alright, kid. I'll help you. But you follow my lead. No showing off, no reckless stunts."

I raised my hands. "Scout's honor."

He sighed. "Let's hope you mean that."

That night, we tracked Osborn's next move.

Daredevil had sources in places I didn't even know existed. Within an hour, we were staking out a high-rise penthouse in Midtown—one of Osborn's secret labs.

"You sure about this?" I whispered, clinging to the side of the building.

"I'm sure," Daredevil replied from above. "There are ten men inside. Two armed guards at the entrance, one patrolling the balcony. The rest are working."

I blinked. "You can hear all that?"

He smirked. "Enhanced senses. Comes with the territory."

I rolled my eyes. "Show-off."

We moved in, me sticking to the walls while Daredevil maneuvered with unnerving precision. He took down the balcony guard silently, and I webbed up the ones at the entrance.

Inside, the lab was filled with strange equipment—rows of canisters with that same black goo from before.

Venom samples.

"Osborn's building something," I whispered. "Something big."

Before Daredevil could respond, the room flooded with an eerie green light, and a familiar cackle echoed through the space.

"You just don't know when to quit, do you, Spider-Man?"

Green Goblin.

I groaned. "Does this guy ever take a night off?"

Goblin swooped in on his glider, launching pumpkin bombs. I leaped onto the ceiling while Daredevil ducked behind a counter.

"Get the samples out!" I shouted, webbing one of the containers and swinging it toward the exit.

Daredevil nodded and moved with lightning speed, incapacitating the scientists one by one while I kept Osborn busy.

Goblin fired another round of bombs, and I webbed them back at him mid-air. "Catch!"

He dodged, snarling. "You're becoming very annoying, Parker!"

"Hey, it's a gift!" I quipped, flipping to avoid his razor-sharp blades.

Daredevil was already at the exit, carrying as many samples as he could. "Spider-Man! Move!"

I fired a final web shot, yanking Goblin's glider off balance, and sprinted after Daredevil.

We swung across the city with the stolen samples in hand, Goblin's enraged screams echoing behind us.

Safe house, later that night.

We examined the stolen samples under a dimly lit lamp. Daredevil ran his fingers over the canister. "This substance… it's alive."

"Yeah," I muttered, remembering how it moved inside Stark's lab. "And Osborn wants to make an army out of it."

Daredevil frowned. "We need to stop him before that happens."

I leaned back against the wall, exhausted. "You think we have enough evidence now? To bring this whole thing down?"

Daredevil shook his head. "Not yet. Osborn's too powerful. We need something bigger."

I sighed. "Then we hit him where it hurts."

Daredevil glanced at me. "And where's that?"

I smirked. "His wallet."

The next day, at Midtown High.

MJ cornered me by my locker, arms crossed. "Okay, I'm officially done waiting. What's going on, Peter?"

I opened my mouth, but she cut me off. "And don't say 'school stress,' because I'm not buying it anymore."

I sighed. "MJ… it's complicated."

"Then uncomplicate it," she pressed. "I'm your friend. I care about you."

I swallowed hard. Could I really keep lying to her?

Before I could answer, my phone buzzed. A message from an unknown number.

[Unknown:] "Meet me at Oscorp Tower. Bring the samples. Alone."

I felt a chill run down my spine.

MJ noticed the look on my face. "Peter, what is it?"

I forced a weak smile. "Nothing. Just… something I need to take care of."

She sighed. "Be careful, Tiger."

I nodded. "Always."

That night, standing outside Oscorp Tower, I stared up at the towering glass structure.

If I walked in there, there was no turning back.

I exhaled and stepped forward.
