Chapter 22 imperial shield and spear
“Mariette, is there anything unusual?”
“Yes! With this, both Princess Abigail and Prince Gustav will be captivated!”
I asked Mariette while checking my appearance in the mirror. She praised me wholeheartedly.
I have some reservations about it, but my top priority is to ensure that this woman sees me as a valuable asset and a pawn for the future, considering what happened last night. So, I can’t afford to tell lies.
“Got it. Thank you.”
“You’re welcome! Do your best today!”
I don’t need her to tell me that, but after what happened last night, I’m feeling a bit nervous. Sneaking into her room on the first day and crying in front of her, not to mention embracing her… it was almost like a night visit.
I don’t think she dislikes me, but I might have gone a bit too far.
“Now, let’s go. Princess Abigail must be waiting!”
“Right.”
I steeled myself and headed to Princess Abigail’s room.
And then…
“Good morning, Prince Gustav.”
I knocked on the door, and Princess Abigail, already dressed, gracefully curtsied.
Perhaps it’s because of what happened last night, but she looked even more beautiful, and I couldn’t help but be captivated by her.
“Your Highness… Prince Gustav…”
“Huh? Oh, yes… Good morning, Princess Abigail.”
Marionette whispered something to me from behind, snapping me out of my trance, and I hurriedly returned the morning greeting.
I can’t afford to be lost in thought like this.
“Well then, shall we have breakfast?”
“Yes.”
I took Princess Abigail’s hand, and we headed to the dining hall.
But…
…
I expected some changes after what happened last night, but she seemed almost emotionless, like she was wearing a mask. Just like she used to be in my previous life.
I want to ask her many things, but with Marionette and Claire present, I’ll have to wait until tonight. If her reactions are like this, I can’t help but feel a bit frustrated.
“If there’s anything you don’t like, please don’t hesitate to tell me.”
Apart from that, she takes impeccable care of me. Today’s breakfast included all my favorite dishes and was well-balanced in terms of nutrition. There’s nothing to complain about.
Claire seems to be dissatisfied with how Princess Abigail is treating me and has been giving her cold glares since earlier, but…
“Prince Gustav, what are your plans for today?”
“Me?”
I asked in return, and Princess Abigail nodded.
In my first life, I had no official duties or responsibilities within the empire, unlike Princess Abigail, who was constantly busy with her duties as the First Princess. I was more like a decorative presence in the empire, appearing at royal events at most.
However, in this second life, there are things I must do.
So…
“Since I haven’t had many opportunities to move around from the capital to here, I’d like to limber up my body a bit.”
“I see.”
With just that answer, Princess Abigail seemed to lose interest and focused on her meal.
I can’t be lost in thought like this.
“Thank you for the meal.”
We finished the silent meal, and we both got up from our seats.
While Marionette and Claire were busy cleaning up, I took the opportunity to…
“Last night’s events are our little secret, okay?”
“Wha-!? Y-Yes…”
I whispered this to ensure that our secret was safe. She blushed and looked down, which was a nice reaction to see after spending such a cold and emotionless time with her.
She’s still the same after all.
“Well then, if you’ll excuse me.”
I gave a respectful bow and left with Princess Abigail and Claire.
I considered escorting them further, but there might be situations where it’s not appropriate for me to be present, so I refrained.
Claire’s cold gaze seemed to say, “Don’t follow us,” quite clearly.
“Prince Gustav, are you planning to practice swordsmanship, as you mentioned during breakfast?”
“Yes.”
I replied and left while Marionette and Claire were focused on cleaning up.
Now… let’s get to it.
I turned on my heels and headed towards the knights’ quarters located within the imperial palace.
While there is a training ground within the imperial palace where Princess Abigail practices, I won’t be using that.
In my first life, since no one ever came there, I pretty much lived there.
But things are different this time.
“Oh…?”
I was walking beside the knights who were training, and they cast their gazes toward me.
– The Shield of the Empire, Silas Garland.
– The Spear of the Empire, Glenn Corbett.
These two are indispensable to me because I have a pressing need for them.
