Chapter 550. Who is that?

The power of demons

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

“…That’s just not going to work.”

Seeing the Korvto Tribe continuously deploying walls and fortifications, Liliana sighed.

That wall is already a pain to break through, and with so many layers carefully set up, it’s going to be incredibly tough to breach with arrows (though it is quite absurd to think you could pierce the Korvto Tribe’s prideful stone walls with arrows).

Not to mention the difficulty of shooting the higher demons waiting behind it.

“I felt some impact, but…”

“The General is still on the other side of that wall. It seems we missed our chance.”

“…Well, it can’t be helped. At least we managed to hold them up.”

Odigos looked disappointed, and Liliana shrugged.

The Korvto Tribe is overly thorough in their defenses, but that’s significantly slowed their advance. Considering that they took down the General with the first strike, that’s a pretty good outcome.

Liliana decided to let go of the General sniping operation and shifted her target to the more manageable demon warriors.

“Uooooh! [Charge!]”

“[Charge, charge, charge!]”

“[Charge—!!]”

And just right for her, a group of demons came charging in with spears raised.

“[Myth Rebirth: Divine Growth]”

Liliana shot the next arrow she had prepared.

With a sharp ping, the living branch whirred and struck.

The advancing demons—without stone walls like the Korvto Tribe, and without barriers like the Sauroe Tribe—were deploying their protective spells as one would expect. They had enough defensive power to easily deflect dwarven mechanical bows and average Forest Elf arrows—

Or so it was supposed to be.

But, to her shock, the protection shattered. Like candy or something, the protective magic of the lead charging demon warrior was broken like a mere trinket.

“Guwa!?”

A branch pierced his chest, and as he fell bewildered, he became a bizarre statue supported by the trunk sprouting from his body before hitting the ground.

“Ugh, ga, mooooaahhh!!”

“What the hell is this!?”

“Don’t screw around!!”

As companions sprouted branches from their mouths and convulsed to death, transforming into beautiful glowing trees that bloomed flowers, the demon warriors were thrown into confusion, agitation, and rage by this nightmarish yet comedic scene.

Their momentum started to dull—then, the grass that proliferated on the ground from the aftermath of [Divine Growth] entangled their feet.

“Ouch! What is this grass?!”

“Enough with this nonsense!”

“Die!!”

As their legs were caught, the demon warriors attempted to counterattack with magic towards Liliana on the wall, but fireballs, stones, and curses were deflected by Orderju’s wind magic.

“Someone! Give me arrows!”

“Y-yes! Here you go!”

Taking advantage of the opportunity, Liliana quickly readied an arrow borrowed from a nearby Forest Elf archer.

Even without [Myth Rebirth] or any special magic—

With her bow filled to the brim with magical power and her body maximally enhanced, Liliana herself was a weapon.

She shot.

A sharp sound echoed again.

A simple arrow flew and pierced the back of a lesser demon, who was crouching and struggling to free himself from the grass that was entangled around his feet.

“Next!”

She readied another arrow and shot again.

The protective spell was blown away with a crack, and a demon warrior was slammed to the ground.

“Next!”

Still plenty of arrows left. Scanning the battlefield, Liliana drew back her bow once more.

“You bastard!”

The next demon warrior, perhaps hastily using arrow-dodging magic, barely managed to deflect Liliana’s shot. He seemed like a tough opponent with considerable magical power.

“[Let there be holy light]”

But Liliana acted quickly. She unleashed a heat ray from her hand.

“Hot!!”

While he stumbled back, scorched in the eyes and face, she unleashed a concentrated barrage of arrows—one, two, three.

She caught the core of the arrow-dodging magic.

Pierced.

“Next!!”

As a demon fell with arrows sprouting from his ears, Liliana readied another arrow—

“Lily! Night fall!”

And as Orderju shouted the warning, she instinctively pulled back.

As hundreds of poisonous arrows flew through the air where Liliana’s head had just been, they made a horrible, whistling noise.

“Oh! Those were aimed straight at your right eye just now!”

Odigos exclaimed in awe.

“A multitude of life forms, nearly a hundred, coordinating flawlessly to strike one target. What a beautiful and splendid scene! I can feel the wild guidance!”

(Yeah! So Odigos, how about you use that ‘wild guidance’ to help too!)

With an unyielding smile, Liliana snapped her fingers, gathering light in her hand.

A small, yet sun-like glow.

(—Guide me, to the location of the Night Fallen on this battlefield.)

No trouble at all.

Hundreds of magical “paths” appeared in her vision.

Liliana aimed her bow toward the zenith.

“[Myth Rebirth—]”

An overwhelming amount of magical power formed luminous arrows.

“[—Dawnlight Divine Cry]”

She released it. Light like the sun erupted.

Splitting into two, then four, then eight, sixteen, thirty-two, sixty-four, one hundred twenty-eight, two hundred fifty-six—branches of light towered into the night sky like a glowing tree.

It dyed the heavens white, as bright as midday.

For the allied humans, it was a divine spectacle, while for the creatures of darkness, it was a sight to chill the soul.

The atmosphere rumbled ominously.

The sound of air catching fire from the intense light.

Ah, the night falls.

Hundreds of luminous arrows rained down from the sky. Too close and bright to be called a meteor shower.

It was a massive waterfall, a cascade of light that manifested abruptly in the night.

“Giiiiyahhh!!”

The battle cries echoed across the battlefield. Night Elf soldiers, agents, maids—everywhere blazed like torches. Their skin melted, blood boiled, experiencing hellish agony that begged for a quick end as Night Elves fell one by one.

“Oh! Ohh!!”

“Amazing! It’s incredible!!”

“It’s like a miracle, a goddess!”

The soldiers of the alliance erupted in cheers at the spectacle, which could only be described as the deeds of the gods of light.

“…………”

Conversely, the Demon Lord Army was losing its advance. No, their feet were already slowing. There were even warriors from the Anoitus Tribe that had been cut down without means to defend themselves. Whole ranks of Night Elves had perished.

Furthermore, the news of ‘Sekihankus’ death in battle’ was spreading.

“What… is going on?”

The Korvto Tribe, starting with Spinethia, was reeling from shock.

No way. Wasn’t Sekihankus supposed to be in the main camp?

The strongest warrior of the Sauroe Tribe in this Northern Army and the most proficient in defense—could Sekihankus really be dead?

Unbelievable. Impossible.

Unacceptable.

“What is going on… what on earth is happening!!”

With a pale face and trembling lips, Spinethia was perplexed. The surrounding warriors of the Sauroe Tribe shared similar expressions of disbelief.

They understood that attacking the Dwarven Kingdom wouldn’t be a simple task.

But to have something like this happen before even clashing with the Dwarven forces?

Moreover, it appeared that this incredible event was being caused by a single Forest Elf archer.

—What an absurdity!

The demons, who had exploited the power of the devil to inflict unreasonable demands on other races until now.

They knew nothing of the backlash that was about to rain down on them.

Only the beastmen followers of Spinethia could not hide their anxiety, staring fearfully at their protective [Hunting Domain] barrier, sensing something dreadful happening—

“Who are you… really?”

In the roaring Burklets Canyon gate, a Forest Elf archer who had provided his quiver to Liliana asked, visibly awed.

“Hehe.”

Liliana, shrouded in her hood, merely winked and wove shimmering magical power, drawing a complex emblem overhead.

“Ooh…!”

The Forest Elves gasped in surprise. This magical emblem was one that Forest Elf bards would depict at the onset of their songs.

It was the emblem of a story featuring the ancient human queen, ‘Tachiana,’ symbolizing a ‘noble disguised for a reason.’

In other words, an answer—‘I am of noble birth, but details remain secret.’ Forest Elves could discern from just seeing the emblem, while the Night Elves capable of deciphering it had been annihilated by the previous strike.

With the consecutive use of [Myth Rebirth] and the skill to draw complex emblems in an instant.

There was no denying that Liliana was an extraordinary figure.

The Forest Elves understood everything and refrained from further questioning, simply placing a hand to their chests to show deep respect and reverence—

†††

—At the edge of the battlefield.

Far away, there was a figure glaring with bloodshot eyes at the luminous emblem floating high above the wall.

“You… damn you… damn you…!!”

He was pounding the ground in frustration, coughing up blood.

The man was gravely injured. His body bore severe burns, his clothes tattered and burned as if he had narrowly escaped a fire.

Indeed, he had barely survived the searing light bombardment—

Alone, while abandoning his comrades.

Because there had been no one who could keep up with his dimensional acceleration.

“Dark gods… I shall offer you the finest prey…!”

With gritted teeth, the man rose, breathing heavily.

He had no luxury to mask his expression like a Night Elf; he aimed his bow with a countenance of fury.

The man’s name was Athar.

Also known as the bow saint, “Three Ravens” Athar—

One of the strongest forces of the Night Elf tribe.
