The Scars We Carry

Chapter 8: Lucy

Julian stormed into the house, his face a mask of fury. His voice boomed through the hall.

"Lucy! Get out here now!"

Lucy appeared at the top of the staircase, her lips curling into a playful smile. "What's wrong, my handsome brother?" she teased, laughing as she descended the steps.

Julian's glare intensified. "Why did you tell Rose—and the reporters—that Isabella is my wife? And why did you drag Mom into this?"

Lucy shrugged nonchalantly. "I was bored."

Julian's hands clenched into fists. "Because you were bored, you decided to tell the entire world Isabella is my wife—when she isn't?"

Lucy smirked. "Yes. You're supposed to be the smartest man alive. Figure it out."

Julian's voice rose, frustration spilling out. "Now, thanks to you, I have to marry her."

"That was the plan," Lucy said, crossing her arms.

Julian stared at her, dumbfounded. "Why? I thought you didn't even like Isabella."

Lucy leaned casually against the banister. "Oh, I don't like her. But I do like chaos. My life is boring—wake up, eat, exist, repeat. I needed some excitement."

Julian's jaw tightened. "You're insane."

Lucy grinned wickedly. "Maybe. But you love me anyway."

Julian's tone turned colder. "You're lucky you're my sister. Otherwise, I'd make your life a living hell."

Just then, Cilla Moreau entered the room, her voice calm but pointed. "Where is Isabella?"

Julian avoided her gaze. "I need to go," he muttered before heading for the door.

Cilla called after him. "Where are you going, Julian?"

Lucy, watching with an amused expression, chimed in. "If I had to guess, he's heading to Isabella's village."

Cilla frowned. "Why would he do that?"

"Because," Lucy said, smirking, "he hates Isabella. And when you sent her to his office earlier, he probably lost his temper and shouted at her."

Julian didn't wait to hear more. He stepped into his sleek car, slamming the door behind him, and drove off.

The drive was a blur of frustration and regret. When he finally reached the village, he spotted Isabella standing by a small, weathered house. Her face was pale, her expression distant. Julian stepped out of the car, his presence immediately drawing her attention.

Isabella turned to face him, her eyes filled with a mix of surprise and pain.
