Chapter 16: Chapter 16

"Oh my, Lan Mei! Our guest here looks a bit red. He might not be feeling well," Lianchen exclaimed with concern, his tone dripping with mock politeness. "Bring me something to help our dear guest. If the world thinks that I, Lianchen, am a poor host, how would I ever keep my face?"

Lan Mei bowed lightly, her expression calm and composed despite the charged atmosphere. Without a word, she extended her spiritual sense, deftly guiding a treasure toward Lianchen. The artifact glided gracefully through the air, settling into Lianchen's outstretched hand with precision.

Lianchen turned to the Su Clan ancestor, holding the treasure as though it were a gift of immense value. His grin widened, the mockery in his gaze unmistakable. "Here, honored guest," he said, offering it with feigned sincerity. "I insist you accept this. It's the least I can do for someone of your standing."

The Su Clan ancestor almost coughed up a mouthful of blood on the spot. How could he not? Before his very eyes, one of the Su Clan's treasured artifacts floated gracefully into Lianchen's palm, ready to be used to "help" him.

The humiliation was unbearable. The fact that his own clan's treasure, one that had been carefully safeguarded for centuries, was now being mockingly offered as a gesture of hospitality twisted the knife even deeper.

"This is the Necklace of Nine Lives," Lianchen said with a mocking tone, holding the treasure up for all to see. "It's said to grant the user nine extra lives… quite the remarkable artifact, wouldn't you agree?"

His voice dripped with feigned politeness as if he were introducing the treasure to the Su Clan members for the first time. The smirk on his face made it clear he was enjoying every moment of their humiliation.

The Su Clan members' faces darkened, their anger barely contained. This was their treasure, one they had guarded zealously for generations, now being paraded in front of them as if they were strangers to its significance.

"Lianchen! You're going too far!" the Su Clan ancestor roared, unable to contain his fury any longer. He shot to his feet, his bloodshot eyes blazing with rage as they locked onto Lianchen. His aura flared, filling the room with oppressive energy, a testament to the seething anger coursing through him.

"Oh, this necklace is too much? Overkill, you say?" Lianchen replied, feigning shock as he held the artifact up like an appraiser at an auction. "Well, I wouldn't want to overwhelm my esteemed guests. Perhaps I can find something of a… lower grade?"

He paused dramatically, patting his robes as if searching for an alternative. "You know," he added with a laugh, "I have so many treasures on me, it's almost like I robbed someone!"

The room fell silent, save for Lianchen's amused chuckle. The Su, Lu, and Mo Clan members' faces turned ashen, their expressions frozen somewhere between rage and disbelief. They exchanged quick, horrified glances as the implications of his words sank in.

'Was that what he meant by 'going too far'?. one of them thought, biting back the urge to scream. Was it possible to humiliate people this much and still laugh about it?

For a moment, even the Emperor, watching quietly from his seat, stifled a cough, as this was going a bit too far.

"Zhou Lianchen," the Mo Clan head said sharply, his voice cutting through the tense atmosphere like a blade. "As the prince, you put millions in danger with the attack you orchestrated at Redcliff City. Is this any way for a prince to act?"

His words were heavy with accusation, his tone filled with both outrage and disbelief. The room grew quiet, the weight of the statement hanging in the air as all eyes turned to Lianchen, waiting for his response.

"Now, don't go dirtying my name," Lianchen said with an air of mock indignation, casually leaning back in his seat. "This prince didn't steal anything from the Mo Clan, nor did I draw any demon beasts to your doorstep." He paused, a sly smile playing on his lips. "If I had, wouldn't I have done the same thing to the others?"

His question hung in the air, leaving the group momentarily speechless. The Su, Lu, and Mo Clan members exchanged uneasy glances, their outrage momentarily halted by the sharp twist of logic in his words. Yet, the smirk on Lianchen's face made it all the more infuriating.

"So, you admit to stealing from the Su and Lu Clans?" the Su Clan head asked sharply, his eyes narrowing as he locked onto Lianchen. His voice was laced with accusation, the calm in his tone barely masking the fury simmering beneath the surface.

"If I did steal from all your clans..." Lianchen began, leaning back in his chair with a smug grin, "Are you suggesting that the Mo Clan was secretly so powerful I had no choice but to resort to such drastic measures? Quite the compliment, wouldn't you say?"

He paused, letting the words sink in before continuing, his tone turning more playful. "But let's entertain the idea for a moment, let's say I did steal. What can you do about it?"

Lianchen spread his arms wide, reclining even further as though inviting a challenge. "Go on, do something," he said, his smirk widening as he waited for a response. The audacity in his demeanor left the room in stunned silence, the 3 clans too furious to even speak.

The room was thick with suppressed rage. The 3 clans were trembling, caught in a maddening state of wanting to explode, to lash out, to kill, but not daring to make a move. Their glares could have burned through steel, but Lianchen met them all with a mocking smirk, basking in their frustration.

"Do you think you're untouchable just because you have the Emperor's favor?" the Mo Clan ancestor growled, his voice heavy with anger as his aura flared slightly.

"No," Lianchen replied, his voice calm yet cutting through the air like a blade. "I'm untouchable because you're all weak. Under the heavens..." he paused, a wicked grin spreading across his face, "well, let's just say even the heavens are my bitches."

The room fell deathly silent as his words echoed in their minds, sending chills down their spines. A palpable sense of dread filled the air as everyone froze, their gazes instinctively turning toward the sky. Surely, the heavens would respond to such brazen blasphemy, wouldn't they?

But nothing happened.

The heavens remained as they were, calm and indifferent as if they hadn't even heard the audacious proclamation. The silence dragged on, and uncertainty began to creep into the hearts of those present. They exchanged uneasy glances, wondering if the heavens truly hadn't noticed, or worse if they simply didn't dare to oppose Zhou Lianchen.

"Do you think the heavens would strike down their most beloved child?" Lianchen said, his tone casual yet piercing through the tense silence. "Even if I curse at them, they'd laugh it off like an indulgent parent."

His words hung in the air, leaving the gathered clan members stunned and uncertain about how to respond. Their disbelief was palpable, the sheer arrogance of his statement rattling them to their core.

All except Lan Mei, who stood quietly at his side. She didn't share their awe; instead, she discreetly rolled her eyes, the faintest hint of exasperation flickering across her otherwise composed expression.

When someone committed an act that enraged the heavens, be it through unspeakable evil, defiance against their will, or even cursing their name, a reaction was inevitable. The greater the offense, the more severe the response. Thunderous storms, divine wrath, and otherworldly retribution were common tales of such punishment.

But Lianchen was an exception. Thanks to the necklace he wore, a powerful artifact that shielded him from the heavens' judgment, he could curse the heavens as much as he pleased without fear of retribution. No matter how bold or blasphemous his words were, the heavens remained silent, unable to act against him.
