The Roulette of Destiny: Reincarnated in the Pokémon World

Chapter 34: Vermillion City Gym battle

The doors of the Vermilion City Gym slid open, revealing the electrified battlefield within. Ethan walked in with quiet confidence, his Spearow perched firmly on his shoulder. The Gym's walls were lined with high-voltage generators that hummed softly, illuminating the space with flickering yellow light.

At the far end of the room stood Lt. Surge, tall and imposing, his military demeanor radiating authority. His smirk widened when he spotted Ethan. "Well, well, another challenger! You here to light up my battlefield, kid?"

Ethan nodded, his gaze steady. "I didn't come this far to back down. Let's see if your lightning's as tough as they say."

Surge chuckled, his voice booming. "Confidence—I like that! Let's see if you've got the skills to back it up."

The referee stepped forward, raising his flag. "This is an official Gym battle between Lt. Surge, leader of the Vermilion City Gym, and Ethan of Pallet Town. Each trainer will use three Pokémon. The battle ends when all of one side's Pokémon are unable to battle. Trainers, send out your Pokémon!"

Surge grabbed a Pokéball from his belt. "Let's get this party started! Voltorb, you're up!"

In a flash of light, a small, spherical Pokémon appeared, rolling forward with an electric charge that crackled along its metallic surface.

Ethan stepped forward, his voice calm and decisive. "Spearow, let's take them down."

The tiny bird spread its wings and took flight, circling above the battlefield with sharp, calculating cries.

Surge grinned. "Voltorb, show them your speed! Start with Rollout!"

Voltorb curled into itself and launched forward like a spinning bullet, its speed increasing with every rotation.

Ethan's voice rang out. "Spearow, take to the sky and dodge!"

With a burst of agility, Spearow soared upward, narrowly avoiding the speeding Voltorb. The rolling Pokémon skidded to a stop and immediately adjusted its trajectory.

"Keep dodging, Spearow! Stay above it," Ethan instructed.

Spearow darted left and right, keeping just out of Voltorb's reach.

Surge barked his next command. "Voltorb, stop it with Thunder Shock!"

Electricity crackled around Voltorb as it unleashed a bolt of lightning toward Spearow.

"Dodge and counter with Fury Attack!" Ethan called.

Spearow twisted in midair, narrowly avoiding the electric attack. Then, with a sharp dive, it struck Voltorb repeatedly with its sharp beak, landing blow after blow.

Voltorb rolled back, sparks flying.

"Finish it, Spearow! Use Aerial Ace!"

Spearow's wings glowed as it streaked through the air, delivering a powerful, precise strike. Voltorb let out a small explosion of sparks before falling still.

"Voltorb is unable to battle! Spearow wins!" the referee announced.

Ethan smirked, looking up at his victorious partner. "Good work, Spearow."

Surge crossed his arms, his grin undiminished. "Not bad, kid. But you're gonna have to do better than that. Magnemite, let's go!"

Spearow vs. Magnemite

Magnemite appeared in a burst of light, floating eerily in the air. Its polished steel body gleamed under the Gym's fluorescent lights, and its magnets began to spin ominously.

Ethan eyed the new opponent. "Stay sharp, Spearow. This one won't go down easy."

"Magnemite, Thunder Wave!" Surge commanded.

Magnemite emitted a burst of crackling energy that raced toward Spearow.

Ethan's response was immediate. "Use Agility to dodge!"

Spearow blurred as it accelerated, narrowly avoiding the paralyzing wave.

"Now, counter with Peck!" Ethan shouted.

Spearow swooped down, its sharp beak striking Magnemite squarely. The Steel-type Pokémon wobbled slightly but quickly regained its composure.

"Magnemite, retaliate with Thunder Shock!" Surge called.

A burst of electricity shot out from Magnemite, hitting Spearow mid-flight. The bird cried out but steadied itself, its determination unwavering.

"Spearow, Fury Attack!" Ethan ordered.

Spearow launched into another flurry of strikes, its beak striking Magnemite repeatedly.

"Hang tough, Magnemite! Use Sonic Boom!"

Magnemite emitted a shockwave of energy, hitting Spearow with a powerful blow. The small bird staggered but refused to go down.

Both Pokémon were visibly exhausted, their movements slower, but their determination unyielding.

Ethan clenched his fist. "One more Aerial Ace, Spearow!"

"Sonic Boom again, Magnemite!" Surge roared.

The two Pokémon launched their final attacks simultaneously. Spearow's glowing wings sliced through the air as Magnemite unleashed another shockwave.

The two attacks collided, and when the dust settled, both Pokémon were on the ground, motionless.

"Spearow and Magnemite are unable to battle! This round is a tie!" the referee declared.

Ethan recalled Spearow, a faint smile on his face. "You were amazing out there. Rest up—you've earned it."

Surge grinned, his excitement palpable. "I'll give you credit, kid. You've got guts, and that Spearow's got heart. But let's see if your next Pokémon can handle my ace."

Ethan reached for his second Pokéball, his smirk returning. "Let's see how your Raichu stacks up."
