Chapter 21: Some bonding is good
It's been three days since training David, during those three days, all I had was one thought.
He is learning quickly.
His progress was somewhat close to mine, fixing small mistakes as the hour goes on, but it was still far from perfect.
The two of us were exchanging blows, blocking and countering each other, but with him still getting struck.
As the two of us were at a stand still, David was slowly pushing me back, slowly taking a step forward whenever I tried to take a step back.
Not giving me the chance to gain any breathing room, I was impressed at how well he was doing, but it was still not enough.
I knelt down, swinging my legs to sweep him off his feet, and he jumped up. Only for me to spin halfway, plant my hands on the ground, and push myself up, with my two feet striking him on the stomach.
He soon rolled onto the ground, groaning in pain as he held his stomach. I took the chance to land on my feet, and raise the rubber knife, swinging close to him.
Touching the tip on his head, seeing the tip touch him, he only sighed and swatted my hand away.
"Not bad, that's the ninetieth time you 'died'." Hearing my comment, David smiled at my comment and laughed.
"Yes, fuck you cock riders!" He shouted, causing me to look at him in confusion, seeing this, he coughed and looked to the side.
"Just letting off some steam." Was all he said, before his eyes glowed yellow, signaling he was getting a call.
He winced at first, before nodding his head, I was curious on who could be calling him, but I couldn't invade his privacy.
Luckily, it didn't last long since his eyes dimmed. Only for his body to slump forward and his skin sweating.
"C-can we end todays session a bit early?" He asked with a nervous smile, I only nodded my head and began to grab the rubber knives, but before I could start making my way back home.
He gripped my arm tightly, not budging one bit. I was confused on what he was doing, but my instincts told me danger was close.
"David, why aren't you letting me go?" I asked him, only for him to look at me with pleading eyes.
"My mom wants to meet y-you." I was confused, why did his mother want to meet me?
"And why does she want to meet me? I don't remember giving her a reason to see me again." He gulped at my question.
"W-well, I may have not told her about you teaching me on how to fight." He chuckled nervously, I could only sigh and place my head in my hand.
"What do I bring?" I asked him, he began to think, placing his hand on his chin.
"Well, some good food is a start, since we rarely get any food made, just some take out." He explained.
"Well, that's not too much." I muttered, while the two of us began to walk back to the city.
"Also, some detergent, we just ran out a while back." He continued, sniffing his shirt and recoiled at the scent.
"I'm not a grocery shop." I chided him, only for him to smile.
"Yeah, I know, but it's better to show up with a peace offering, rather than showing up empty handed." I kept silent at his comment, since he wasn't entirely wrong with that.
"So, she'll be waiting around at nine, so… good luck." He patted my shoulder and soon left me alone.
"Well, it's not like the items are going to pick themselves up." I spoke to no one and began to jog back to my home.
As I made my way back, I made sure to run towards my car, where it was parked in an open area which I made thanks to my snakes.
It was perfect since not a single cop car would be anywhere close to the east of Westbrook, but that didn't mean some people would try to act like nothing was happening.
As I made my way closer, I saw a few people surrounding my car. A few guys and girls were surrounding it, trying to observe it and wanting to open it.
One of the guys ended up slamming the door open, letting a frustrated growl out. He kicked the door, seeing that it was locked.
'I know they aren't that smart, but to try and open it without the key?' I just approached them, calling out to them.
"Hey, mind not hitting my car?" I called out to the group, as they all turned towards me, the guy who hit my car made his way towards me.
"Yeah, no, it's my car. You can piss off to whatever hole you came out of." He said in arrogance, the rest chuckled at his comment and all I could do was sigh.
"Oh no, what ever shall I do without my car?" I asked, I then activated it remotely. The engine soon roared loudly, causing them to yelp in fright.
"Oh. Would you look at that?" I pretended to gasp, passing by all of them. And to add salt to the wound. I opened the door and slipped inside, keeping the same shocked look.
I then began to drive away, chuckling as I saw the man turn red in anger. Hurling insults at me while I drive away, only to go quiet as soon as I was far enough.
"Well, I'll expect some mercenaries to come after me later." I sighed, not wanting to have my car damaged, I made a note to myself to have my snakes cover the car.
Once driving for an hour, thanks to traffic in this dammed city, I arrived at a small convenance store to buy some detergent.
After all, gifts are the best method to calm someone down. Or anger them if you get something that is offensive.
It reminded me of a comedian, fluffy is what he called himself, I had to admit, he did tell good jokes.
(A/N: If you know the joke, then you know.)
After doing so, I soon returned to my home, with some ingredients I bought from the store to make the food.
What I bought were minor things, artificial food, some rice, heck, even some spices, but the price for them, it would make the supermarket prices from my old world reasonable.
I mean, who charges ten dollars a pound of rice? That is robbing in broad daylight. They never do this back in my old world, they only charge you for a large bag of rice, well, depending on where it is sold really.
But back to the task at hand, since I wanted to make a peace offering, I had decided to make some soup.
What kind of soup? Just some vegetable soup with chicken broth. With a hint of spice to help someone wake up from exhaustion.
As I prepared the ingredients, I began to receive a call from someone. I made sure to place my mask on before answering, only to see Maine from before.
"So, it seems you have found my contact information, I can assume you paid Rouge?" Maine only scoffed at my question, lowering his glasses.
"I ain't telling shit, so how's about we meet and greet, for real?" I was curious, but you know what they say, curiosity killed the cat, but the answer brought it back.
"Of course, where shall we meet?" I only received a location from him, which was north of night city.
"Tomorrow night, don't be late." Was all he said before ending the call, I could only sigh at the lack of information, but it wasn't my problem, yet.
Once I had finished making the soup, I had texted David to send me the location on where he lives, since it was my first time showing up invited, by David.
Once changing into the right clothing, I grabbed my pistol, while my two snakes coiled themselves around my fingers.
I began to rush downstairs, making sure I had both gifts securely tight in my arms. Once arriving at the ground floor, I began to walk through the streets and making my way to David's home.
Walking through the streets of Haywood, it felt normal. Like I was in California, minus the advanced technology and corruption happening in broad daylight.
The children were running around the streets, smiling and not caring about the danger that lurks around.
"Hey. Shut the fuck up you pussy, ain't no one wants to see your skinny ass!"
"Yeah? Well, no can see you when the lights are off!"
"That makes no sense, I'm not black!" I take back what I said, this city has problems all over the place
"Hey, don't say things like that!" I called out to the two children.
"Sorry mister Alejandro!" The two kids shouted.
"I'll be telling both your mothers!" They both panicked and ran away, screaming apologizes.
"I swear, they will end up killing themselves." I sighed and soon arrived at the location on where David and Gloria live.
When I arrived, it was another apartment, the only difference, there's looked more worn down than mine.
With its yellow paint covering the entire building, and two markings on it.
H4.
Arriving, I soon made my way inside, passing by the people who glanced at me, others, glancing a bit too long for their own good.
I was about to walk up the stairs, only to see multiple bags of trash blocking the way. Next to it, was a few men chuckling, smoking and tossing bottles of used beer at the pile.
I was surprised at how unattended this place is, it was cleaner on the outside when I arrived.
"Oh hey, your here." Looking up, I saw David waving at me, with his black long sleeve shirt and large pants, with his two chains hanging from his neck.
"You'll have to take the elevator, come on, I'll show you." He said before jumping down, landing on the pile of garbage with ease.
"I'm going to guess you have implants?" He nodded his head, lifting one of the pant legs and showing the metal markings of leg implants.
"Mom was able to scrape enough money for me to have these, it absorbs the impact when I land." He explained and began to walk away, his hands in his pockets.
As I walked behind him, I saw most of the people tearing clear of him, muttering about what had happened back with the sixth street gang.
"Seems you made a small reputation for yourself." I said, only to receive a shrug.
"It's nothing compared to mercs, they do gigs that are risky and make the eddies at the end of the day." I hummed in agreement while following him.
"And you, why did you ask me to fight?" David then looked up at the celling, ignoring the other tenants that lived in this building.
"I'm destined for something big, I'll do something that will leave a mark on this city." I only chuckled at him, causing him to be flustered and looked away.
"A-and maybe take some load off for my mom." He said while pressing the call button for the elevator, I placed my hand on his shoulder and smiled.
"Don't worry, I'll be there to witness it." I told him with a smile, causing him to look at me with wide eyes, soon the elevator arriving, prompting us to enter.
I gave him one last tap and stepped inside, motioning him to enter as well. He shook his head to snap himself out, entering the elevator and pressing one of the buttons.
As we entered a comfortable silence, we saw the news going on at the moment, Night after night with Ziggy. I was somewhat curious so, I decided to entertain myself.
The host was a man with a model build, wearing a Yellow dress suit, while his pants and shoes were black, finally, his hair was dyed a light teal.
"Evening, Night City, my name is Ziggy, and tonight's guest is the captain of the NYPD, Anderson!" The people began to clap, as a man with a skinny build with two optic arms.
"Thank you, Ziggy, and hello to all the viewers tunning in." Said the man, as the two sat down, Ziggy chuckled and placed both his hands on the counter.
"So, captain, tell me, what brought you on our show? It can't be that you came to arrest me." He joked, causing the audience to laugh.
"Ahaha, not this time Ziggy. But, if looking good was a crime, you'd be behind bars." Said the captain, making Ziggy fan himself.
"Ohhh, someone call the police, because I'm guilty as charge." The crowed hollered and whistled, but soon it calmed down.
"The reason on why I'm here, is to send a message." Ziggy grew interested and placed both of his hands on the counter.
"Oh, and who is this message for?" He asked, the captain then turned to the camera, staring at it with an intense gaze.
"Cobra, this is your warning, you took one of my boys away, so I'll be doing the same." He motioned to the side, where a NCPD officer entered with a cage, holding one of my snakes.
'So, they took the bait.' I thought, the snake hissed and thrashed, but didn't break the cage yet.
Everyone in the news station panicked and screamed at the sight, while the captain shook the cage.
"You see this? This is a warning cobra." He grabbed the cage and shook it. Holding it close to the camera for me to see.
"We'll find every single one of these, then, we're coming for you." He then walked away, with the officer behind him.
"W-well, that was an interesting twist folks, guess we have our reliable NCPD to take care of those pests." Ziggy said with a forced smile.
"If you have a tragic backstory, an interesting idea, call one eight hundred night after night!" He said, and the show ended.
"Well, that was a surprise, I thought those things were invincible." David said, I only chuckled and shook my head.
"Nothing is invincible, time is the greatest enemy to all." I said, the elevator soon stopped, and the two of us got off.
"So, what time did you say your mother was coming back?" David stood in front of the door to his home, sighing.
"At nine, so make yourself at home."
(A/N) Hey, hey, I'm back, sorry about the break, I had to take some time off since I had some personal buisness to take care of, but don't worry, I'm back.
If you like, send some power stones to give me motivation.
For now, peace.
