Chapter 44:
Chapter 44: You Think You Can Fight? Try Some Lime Powder!
Yu Chen rushed forward alone, but how could Wang Siling possibly feel at ease?
After hesitating for a moment, she quietly followed behind him.
“Hey! It’s broad daylight! What do you think you’re doing?”
As soon as he reached the embankment, Yu Chen saw five or six thugs surrounding Xiaoxiao and the other girls.
They weren’t just leering at them with nasty smiles but were also pointing and making obscene remarks.
Fortunately, they hadn’t made a move yet.
It seemed they had followed Qi Lin’s instructions.
Hearing Yu Chen’s voice, the thugs turned to look at him.
When they got a clear look at his face, they were amused.
Oh?
Wasn’t this the guy from the photo on Young Master Lin’s phone?
“Kid, we’re just having a friendly chat with these lovely ladies. What’s it to you? If you know what’s good for you, walk away.”
If they were going to put on a show, they had to make it convincing. Otherwise, how could they be worthy of Young Master Lin’s hundred-yuan bills?
Step one: provoke him. Step two: beat him up. That much they knew.
“Get lost, you punks! They’re my classmates! Who do you think you are to mess with them? You better scram before I get angry!”
Yu Chen wasn’t afraid at all. He was tall, broad-shouldered, and had always been the dominant figure in his neighborhood. He wasn’t about to be intimidated by a few thugs.
The thugs were momentarily stunned—this guy actually had some guts.
But their moment of surprise quickly turned to rage.
Damn it! They had assumed Young Master Lin just wanted them to rough up some weak bookworm.
Who knew this guy would be so cocky?
This made it even more satisfying to take him down.
Releasing the girls, the thugs turned their attention to Yu Chen and surrounded him.
And so, a one-against-five battle began.
To be fair, Yu Chen could fight.
Despite being outnumbered, he managed to hold his own against the gang.
But thugs weren’t called thugs for nothing—they had no sense of honor and would use any means necessary to win.
One of them, realizing Yu Chen wouldn’t go down easily, smirked and discreetly pulled a handful of lime powder from his pocket.
The moment Yu Chen let his guard down, he flung it straight into his eyes.
“Ah!”
A moment ago, Yu Chen had been reveling in his dominance, handling five opponents at once and impressing the girls.
The next second, a searing pain shot through his eyes, blinding him instantly.
And that wasn’t the worst of it.
Thud!
Thump!
A fist smashed into his face, followed by a heavy kick to his leg, sending him crashing onto the grass.
Then came the real beating.
Blows rained down from all directions.
Yu Chen, who had been so full of himself moments ago, could now only curl up and shield his head as he was mercilessly pummeled.
Wang Siling had arrived just in time to witness this brutal scene.
She had barely stepped onto the embankment when she saw Yu Chen sprawled on the ground, surrounded by thugs kicking and punching him.
Xiaoxiao and the other girls stood huddled together, too terrified to intervene.
“Stop! Don’t hit him anymore!”
Tears welled up in Wang Siling’s eyes as she rushed toward them.
Her voice caught the thugs’ attention.
When they turned and saw her delicate, tear-streaked face, they all froze.
“Damn! This chick is gorgeous!”
The gang members couldn’t help but be stunned.
But one of them quickly snapped out of it.
Noticing the inappropriate looks on his friends’ faces, he immediately lowered his voice and warned them.
“Keep your pants on, idiots. This is Young Master Lin’s girl. If you don’t want to die, behave yourselves.”
Hearing that, the others instantly recalled Qi Lin’s icy gaze from earlier.
A shiver ran down their spines, and they immediately discarded any improper thoughts.
“Listen up, girl. If you take another step, we’ll beat you too.”
One of the thugs warned, not wanting her to get hurt by mistake.
Hearing Wang Siling’s voice, Yu Chen gritted his teeth and forced himself to speak through the pain.
“Siling, stay back! I can take it! I have thick skin—I’ll be fine. They’ll get tired and leave soon enough!”
He was trying to act tough, even in this situation.
“Hah! Who said we’d stop when we’re tired? And you think you’re tough? Let’s see if you can handle this!”
One of the thugs sneered, pulling out a collapsible baton from behind his waist.
He twirled it expertly, creating a sharp whoosh as it cut through the air.
If that thing landed on Yu Chen’s leg, it could easily shatter his bones.
Wang Siling was horrified.
If Yu Chen ended up crippled, his future would be ruined.
In moments of desperation, people often came up with solutions they normally wouldn’t consider.
And right now, one person came to Wang Siling’s mind.
“Wait! Give me a moment—I can get you the money!”
She choked out, her voice trembling.
The thugs exchanged glances.
Wait a minute.
Wasn’t she supposed to hold out until Young Master Lin showed up before giving in?
Why was she surrendering so quickly?
“I need to make a phone call! I’ll be right back!”
Wiping the tears from her face, Wang Siling turned and ran toward a nearby coin-operated payphone.
The thugs were left standing there, completely confused.
Riiing! Riiing!
Not long after, Qi Lin—who had been watching everything unfold from his parked car nearby—heard his phone ring.
