Episode 19
Episode 19
First up, the shop.
While moving, I was browsing equipment-related threads on the bulletin board, but it seems that the equipment sold in this game’s shops is generally weak.
Players either have to craft it themselves or aim for dropped items, but it seems that blacksmith-type professions haven’t been discovered yet.
Anyway, since I got the location of the shop from an NPC, I decided to check out the weapon shop with some expectations.
Entering the weapon shop with a promising exterior, I immediately started examining the weapons.
…Looking at the weapons displayed in the shop, indeed, their performance is quite mediocre.
I was planning to buy something if there was anything good, and I was even considering purchasing something for Mai, but this won’t do.
There were items I could equip at my level, but their performance was about the same as a Monkey Knife.
I guess it’s better to aim for dropped items.
“How much would you buy this spear for?”
“Oh, you’re a foreigner, huh? Select the equipment you want to sell from your inventory, and I’ll check it here.”
“Oh, you can see it?”
“Well, yeah.”
There must be NPCs with such abilities in places where things are sold.
I tried to sell the spear dropped by the skeleton soldier immediately… but the selling price is 2000 gold?
No, its performance is clearly better than the ones lined up here, but it’s quite cheap.
Are they trying to rip me off?
“Hey, shopkeeper. Do you think I’m a country bumpkin who doesn’t understand the value of things?”
“N-No, not at all… I’m sorry. You see, in this world, only a few humans can wear equipment dropped by monsters. Its value is only understood by foreigners like you.”
“…So basically, you’re saying I should sell it to other players?”
“Players? Oh, you mean foreigners? Yeah, that’s right. In our world, aside from foreigners there are occasionally people who can handle them too. Maybe they’ll buy it if they’re one of those people.”
…Perhaps they’re important characters in this world?
The objective of this game is to freely live in the local area as a foreigner while solving local issues.
However, there seems to be something like a main quest. There are already characters and monuments hinting at it here and there, and it’s creating a buzz among the analysis team.
Such main-level characters might handle equipment dropped by monsters and even fight alongside them.
Anyway, since I’ve learned that it’s better not to sell equipment to shops, except maybe for magic stones, I left the weapon shop.
I might as well open an auction somewhere and sell them all at once.
It’s troublesome to find important characters just to sell them equipment, and for now, I’ll focus on my inventory.
With one of my goals accomplished, I headed to the guild.
The guild, huh.
There was something similar in the other world too.
Entering the guild, I immediately headed to the reception to gather information on monsters and started asking around there.
“I’d like to ask, are there any monsters around here that drop short swords?”
“Huh? Short sword drops? That means you’re a foreigner, right?”
“Yeah, that’s right.”
As I answered, attention seemed to gather around me. Foreigners seem to be generally welcomed, and the gazes were somewhat gentle.
“Well… In the mountainous area to the north from here, the Thief Goblins might be worth targeting. They’re around level 30, though…”
“I see. Well then, I’ll go hunt them down.”
“Ah! In that case… could you also take down the Thief Goblin Leader in the mountainous area while you’re at it? Recently, people have been getting attacked more often when traveling to the northern city, and it’s becoming a problem.”
This guy.
He was staring at me earlier to request a quest, huh?
Quite cunning.
But well, if there’s a benefit for me, I can take care of it on the way.
“Is there a city to the north?”
“Yes, it’s a bit small, but it’s there. It’s the fourth port town created in this world. The seafood there is delicious, you know.”
The guild staff expressed his thoughts with a face that made you want to eat it already.
This also seems to be a quest, and there’s been an increase in requests for defeating the Thief Goblin Leader.
Well, I’ll just take my time and head there to deal with it.
“Do we get a generous reward for defeating the Thief Goblin Leader?”
“It will be in gold…”
No, that’s what I want the most right now.
And I’ll also get new skills when I change jobs next time.
“Got it. I’ll head there after finishing up in the city.”
“Please! Thank you so much!”
Being cheered on like this makes me want to do my best too.
When I was acting as a hero in the other world, even if I helped out, I was told, “It’s not very heroic,” and complained a lot.
Local people probably hated me quite a bit. The Goddess, while complaining, would still offer thanks and gratitude if I achieved something, so it might have been tolerable to some extent. But the only thing I couldn’t forgive was being separated from Mai.
With information from the shop and about monsters in hand, I headed to the job change temple next to the guild.
…There seemed to be more unfamiliar statues compared to the city of Antares. I approached a woman dressed in a nun’s habit who was nearby.
“I heard you can buy skill books in this city. Where can I get them?”
“It’s not buying, it’s received as a reward for prayers.”
The sister said with a smile. Her smile was overpowering. It might be quite rude to talk about buying skills.
“Huh? So it’s free?”
“It requires some money, but it’s not buying.”
“No, isn’t it the same as buying?”
“Did you say something?”
“No no, isn’t it buying?”
“…Well.”
She gave me a sharp slap.
“I didn’t mean that! Don’t just slap me out of nowhere!”
“That’s the punishment of the gods.”
“Don’t act as if you’re a representative of the gods!”
Well, since the other party was a beautiful girl, I could let it slide as a reward, but if it were a man, I would have started a fight right there.
