Chapter 8: Chapter 8 - The Remaining Atrocities
"You're not the doctor in charge of me, are you? So, could you please not interrupt my consultation session with Doctor Olivia?"
Ernest said in a casual tone, but who would have thought that his casual tone would trigger Dicky's anger.
Grasp!
"Know your place, you lowlife scum! Ignorant commoners..." He suddenly came forward and grabbed Ernest's shirt collar firmly. "It's a good thing we want to take care of bums like you here for free for two years!"
While talking with saliva spurting everywhere, Dicky brought his rotten face closer to Ernest's face. Ernest was automatically disgusted and wanted to vomit.
Hearing Dicky's insulting words, Ernest's mind automatically compared Dicky's rude behavior to that of the demons in the Netherworld.
There was no demon that would look at someone through the background of their opponent. Homeless people or noble demons were the same. They tend to view other creatures as 'strong and not strong'. Then, they would eliminate the weak and worship the strong. Only social creatures like humans would care about their opponent's background.
"Ugh! Do you realize how bad your mouth smells?" Ernest responded in a playful tone. "Looking at the fiery reaction you're showing right now, it seems like you've forgotten about how you fainted in front of me? Pfftt~ I still want to laugh when I remember it."
One, two, three... one by one, lines of angry veins escaped from Dicky's forehead when he heard Ernest's taunts. His lethargic face and sleepy eyes instantly disappeared, replaced with real anger.
Dicky whispered something near Ernest's ear, "Since you've died once, then it doesn't matter if you die again, right? That way, I'll be able to freely take your internal organs. Just wait."
"Wow, did you just confess that you intend to sell my internal organs?"
Ernest's eyes looked at Olivia. He thought Olivia wouldn't hear Dicky's confession, but seeing the dark expression on her face, it seemed like she heard it.
Ernest originally thought that Olivia was Dicky's ally, but seeing the interaction between the two of them earlier, he canceled that assumption.
Come to think of it, Olivia had previously taken pictures of the morgue, regardless of Olivia taking pictures of him's naked body, perhaps she was looking for evidence of Dicky's illegal activities.
"W-what are you doing, doctor DuPont?"
Seeing her personal patient being bullied in front of her eyes, Olivia couldn't seem to keep quiet. Although there was still a nervous tone of surprise in her angry words, she looked serious when she shouted.
It turned out that not only was she pounding the table while asking questions, but Olivia also moved to take real action. She suddenly grabbed one of Dicky's hands that was clutching Ernest's collar.
Olivia's movement only lasted for a blink of an eye.
"Is this how you treat a patient? How can you call yourself a doctor?"
"Ugh!"
Dicky's face looked confused. He seemed unable to resist Olivia's explosion of strength and anger. Unable to fight back, Dicky could only whimper in pain—turning his confused face into a distorted one.
Due to the pain of Olivia's grip, Dicky was forced to let go of Ernest's collar. As soon as he finished letting go of Ernest's collar, he patted Olivia's hand like a mixed martial artist tapping out.
Unfortunately, Dicky's decision to give in to the pain in his hand made him regret it.
Closing her eyes, Olivia slammed Dicky's body to the floor using judo moves.
Smack!
"Keu-huk!"
The impact on his back made him short of breath.
Without waiting for him to react, Olivia told him to get out of the room.
Finally, Dicky was forced to walk out of the room with a hateful look while hobbling.
Dicky's hatred was not only directed at Olivia but also at Ernest. "Just wait! I'll make sure you two pay a heavy price for daring to offend me!" Dicky left such classic words of warning behind.
When the tense atmosphere began to decrease, Ernest put back what he had just taken from Olivia's desk. It was a ballpoint pen.
Actually, although Ernest responded to Dicky in a playful tone, he wasn't really just playing around.
'That was very close.'
When Dicky grabbed him by the collar, he had already grabbed the ballpoint pen from Olivia's desk. He was about to stick it into Dicky's eye. If Olivia had been one second late in intervening, this room would have been decorated with fresh red blood.
He knew the consequences of taking such an extreme action, but he didn't think too much about it.
The self-defense mechanism that he had built up after surviving for a long time in his previous life or traveling in the Netherworld was still functioning, so he did not hesitate to make extreme decisions when someone threatened his safety.
'It's a good thing that Olivia intervened in time.'
Because of Olivia's intervention, he did not spill Dicky's blood. Otherwise, he might have become a criminal by killing Dicky.
If so, the only options left for him were to live a wandering life while being hunted by the police or to surrender and live in prison. Whichever option he chooses would be equally bad. After all, he wasn't a main character who dared to recklessly fight law enforcement officers with raw power, so he breathed a sigh of relief.
There were complex laws that humans on Earth had to abide by, so he realized again that he had to be more careful in his actions, unlike when he was still living in the Netherworld.
"A-are you okay?" Olivia asked Ernest with a stutter as if her anger had never appeared. Feeling worried for Ernest was not enough, she also apologized. "I-I apologize for our doctor's behavior."
She bowed deeply even to the point of exposing the beautiful valley she had.
"That's fine. But, has the standard of a doctor gone down now?"
"No." She raised her head and looked at Ernest sternly. "I don't know how someone like him got in here either."
'Obviously through an inside route,' Ernest thought. "Aren't you afraid he'll take revenge?"
Ernest remembered that Dicky's family name was DuPont, while the DuPont family was a prominent family in this Orlando city.
Olivia's eyes widened as if surprised by Ernest's concern. "No need to worry, I can defend myself." She said so while waving her hands shyly.
"I see."
"Then what about you? Aren't you afraid?" Olivia asked back.
Hearing Olivia's worried tone, Ernest widened his smile even more.
He didn't feel scared at all. From the moment he found out that Dicky had the surname DuPont, it was destiny for him to become Ernest's enemy.
Ernest intervened not because he wanted to defend Olivia, but because Dicky was the target he wanted to eliminate.
Maybe the DuPont family was a family that was only famous in the city of Orlando now, but the family would later crawl up to become an even higher caste family. The problem was that they were the first people to hide themselves when the world experienced another catastrophe.
The memory of being forced to become a meat shield when the DuPont family fled was still fresh in his mind. It would have been fine if they had sacrificed other people, but since Ernest was among the ordinary people they made into meat shields, he was obliged to avenge that.
'Looks like I have to find the right time to exterminate them.'
His goal list grew again.
