The Real Life System

Chapter 9: Physiological Needs

Adrian looked around. The place was completely empty, silent, endless, and strange.

In front of him stood five doors, each one tall and mysterious. His eyes scanned them quickly until they landed on the first door.

The words were written in big, bold letters:

"DOOR 1: The First Need of Maslow's Hierarchy"

A golden key appeared in front of him, floating in the air. It had a number "1" beautifully sculpted on it.

He immediately understood. I only have the ability to open the first door.

Without hesitation, he grabbed the key and stepped forward. As he placed the key into the lock, a faint glow surrounded the door. It slowly creaked open.

Under the title, a block of text appeared:

Physiological Needs

"These needs are biological and natural. They are the foundation of the pyramid, as they represent the most basic needs of an individual—food, water, air, sleep, rest, and protection from extreme cold or heat. These needs control human behavior, and when deprived of them, a person becomes completely focused on fulfilling them. Only after satisfying these needs can an individual move to the higher levels of the pyramid."

Adrian's eyes moved over the words carefully.

"So, before anything else… before success, power, or even happiness… the first thing a human needs is survival."

He thought about it deeply. Everything starts here. Without food, without water, without sleep… nothing else matters. Is this why money is so important in the real world? Because it buys these things?

He took a deep breath and stepped through the door, ready to see what was waiting for him inside.

Adrian blinked as he found himself in a strange, empty place. It wasn't like the previous training zones. This one felt… more real.

In front of him stood three main locations:

A Restaurant, A sign on the front read:

"Put 50$ and get a meal."

A Clothing Market, A similar sign stated:

"Put 100$ and get a coat. Only 10 are available!!"

A Residential Building, A large plaque next to the entrance said:

"10 People live here. Their total budget is 5000$."

As he tried to process everything, a system message popped up:

[In this zone, hunger increases 10 times faster than in the real world.]

[Current temperature: 40°C. Each minute, the temperature decreases by 1°C.]

[The system congratulates you! You have entered the business world.]

[You earn an initial budget of 200$.]

[Your target goal: Reach 1000$.]

[Time limit: 1 hour.]

Adrian's heart started beating faster.

"So, I need to make money? But how?"

He quickly analyzed the situation.

People needed food because hunger increased quickly.

The temperature was dropping, which meant soon, people would need coats.

There were only 10 coats available, meaning they could become rare and valuable.

The 10 people in the building had 5000$ total, which meant they could buy things if they wanted to.

"This is a business test. The system wants me to find a way to use money wisely, buy and sell at the right time, and make a profit."

His first decision would be crucial.

Should he buy meals and resell them when people got hungrier?

Should he invest in coats, knowing that soon the cold would make them necessary?

Or should he find another way to make money?

He had 200$ and 1 hour to figure it out.

Adrian quickly realized that the coats were the key to success.

Soon, the temperature would drop, and everyone would desperately need one. But there was a problem, each coat cost 100$, and he only had 200$.

He needed at least 800$ to buy all 10 jackets.

That's when he thought about the restaurant.

"One hour without eating here feels like ten hours in real life… They can resist hunger for a while, but what if I offer them a tempting deal?"

A sly smile spread across his face. He turned towards the residential building and entered the elevator. There were 10 floors, meaning 10 people lived here, one on each floor.

He started with the first floor, knocking gently on the door.

An old lady answered.

"Hello, young man. How can I help you?"

Adrian smiled politely. "How are you today?"

She sighed. "Oh, I'm fine, dear. I go down every hour to buy a meal."

That was exactly what Adrian wanted to hear.

"Do you have a coat?" he asked.

She laughed. "A coat? In this heat? Why would I waste money on that?"

He smirked. She didn't know what was coming.

"I have a deal for you," Adrian said confidently. "What if I bring you a meal every hour for a whole day for just 500$?"

The old woman's eyes widened. "Wow, that's a great offer!" But then she chuckled again. "But, my son, don't you know? Everyone in this building is traveling to Nyouma in an hour!"

Adrian's heart skipped a beat.

"Nyouma ? Traveling in an hour? That's the exact amount of time I have left in this challenge. This must be the system's work."

He quickly adjusted his strategy.

"Alright," he said smoothly. "How about this? I bring you one meal in an hour for just 30$, but you have to pay now."

The old lady thought for a moment and then nodded. "Well, that's a good deal."

Adrian smiled. One customer down, nine to go.

He repeated the same trick with every resident in the building, knocking on their doors and offering the same deal. Luckily, everyone agreed. It made sense for them, they were going to pay 50$ for a meal anyway, so 30$ was a great discount.

After just 15 minutes, Adrian had collected 300$. Now, he had a total of 500$.

Without wasting a second, he rushed to the clothing market and bought 5 coats.

That meant only 5 coats remained in stock.

Another 15 minutes passed, and suddenly, the system displayed a new message:

[Current temperature: 8°C]

[Time left: 28 minutes]

Adrian took a deep breath. Now the real game begins…

People started leaving the building and rushing toward the market to buy a jacket. They came out four, quickly reducing the number of coats left.

Soon, only one coat remained.

Then, two men came out at the same time.

As soon as they reached the market, they were shocked, there was only one coat left.

A tense silence filled the air.

Then, suddenly, they started arguing.

"I was here first!" one man shouted.

"No, I was! You just followed me!" the other snapped back.

The argument escalated quickly, and soon, they were pushing each other, each one trying to claim the last coat.

That was when Adrian stepped forward.

"Why fight over one coat," he said calmly, "when you can both get what you want?"

The two men turned toward him, confused but curious.

"I have coats," Adrian continued, his voice smooth and confident.

"And I'm willing to sell you one. For 200$."

The men stared at him in disbelief.

"Why should I buy from you for 200$ when I can get this one for 100$?" one of them asked, crossing his arms.

Adrian smirked. He had expected that reaction.

"I saw you both reach the market at the same time," he pointed out.

"That means neither of you has the right to claim this last coat. You can fight all you want, but in the end, only one of you will get it, and the other will be left in the freezing cold."

The men hesitated.

"And let's be honest," Adrian added, looking up at the sky.

"With this weather. I think a storm is coming."

The two men exchanged nervous glances.

They had already started feeling the cold, and if the temperature kept dropping, they would regret not having a coat.

Adrian noticed their hesitation, this was his chance.

With a confident smile, he made the decision easier for them.

"I will…"
