Chapter 35: (35) Issues with Buying and Renovating a House
Chapter 35: Issues with Buying and Renovating a House
Following Cana's divination, the group headed eastward, toward the forest's edge near the riverside, searching for the location.
With a clear direction, the inquiry went smoothly, and soon they found themselves in front of an elderly woman with a head of silver hair.
Despite her age, the elderly woman was in excellent health, with sharp eyes and keen hearing.
She could walk for miles without needing a break.
After hearing the group's intentions, she warmly welcomed them into her home and gave them a tour of the property.
The house was a two-story building.
Upon entering, the group saw faded yellow walls that gave off a sense of age and a living room filled with furniture exuding a historical charm.
At the far end of the living room stood a staircase leading to the second floor.
According to the elderly woman, the first floor consisted of the living room, kitchen, and bathroom, while the second floor was entirely bedrooms.
Additionally, there was a basement that could be used for storage—or even as a wine cellar.
"This old house was built when my husband and I got married. It's been nearly forty years now," the elderly woman said with a sigh.
"I had planned to live out my days here, staying close to my husband even after my passing."
"But my grandson, who made a fortune in the capital, insisted on taking me there to live with him."
"Now, except for visiting my husband's resting place, I won't be coming back to stay. So, I've decided to sell this house and bring closure to this chapter."
As the elderly woman chattered away, she guided the group through each room.
Before long, they had thoroughly inspected the entire house.
To be honest, Silver was quite satisfied with the property.
Although it was old, the materials used in its construction were of excellent quality, and there hadn't been any major issues over the years.
Furthermore, as an older house, it came with a very reasonable price tag.
The entire property, including a spacious yard, was priced at just over one million.
However, since it was sold along with the surrounding farmland near the lakeside, Silver ended up paying four million in total to secure the deal.
A few days later, it was time for Silver to officially move in.
Over the past few days, Mira had been the most enthusiastic about the move.
Upon hearing that the move was happening, she immediately volunteered to help.
Silver's friends Elfman, Gray, Cana, and Levy also set aside the day to assist.
Since Mira and Elfman were coming, their younger sister Lisanna naturally joined as well.
And because Lisanna often hung out with Natsu and Happy, they came along too.
Not wanting to be left out, Erza, who saw Mira as a rival, also tagged along.
However, Silver didn't have much to move—just some clothes and small personal items.
As for furniture, Mira had already decided what to buy over the past few days, and everything was ordered directly from furniture stores.
The delivery service took care of transporting everything, so there was no need for the group to lift a finger.
Even though the delivery workers were ordinary people, the widespread use of magic in this world made their tasks much easier.
With the aid of strength-enhancing gloves, these workers could easily lift and carry objects weighing several tons, moving them effortlessly to any location.
After the furniture was delivered, everyone began discussing how to renovate the house.
Each person had their own ideas.
Natsu was the first to speak: "I think we should paint the house red, like flames. It'll feel warm and energetic. Right, Happy?"
"Hmm, I think adding some fish designs would make it even better," Happy chimed in, licking his lips.
After Happy's impractical suggestion, Erza added, "I think the rooms should be filled with weapons and armor. That way, it'll feel safer, and we can grab whatever we need at any time."
"That wouldn't make anyone feel safe!" Mira immediately countered. "The house should be painted pink to feel cozy, with flowers and dolls placed everywhere to add charm."
As Mira spoke, she noticed everyone giving her strange looks, leaving her confused.
Just as she was about to get angry, Lisanna stepped in to mediate: "Sis, that's a bit too girly. Silver is a guy, after all. I think painting the house green would give it a sense of vitality. What do you think, Elfman?"
"Me?" Elfman scratched his head and said, "I think blue would be better. It gives a sense of calm."
"Agreed. I also think blue is a good choice," Gray chimed in from beside him.
"What did you say, Gray?" Natsu immediately yelled upon hearing Gray's opinion. "Red is the best!"
"Best, my foot! Blue is the most suitable!" Gray retorted, pressing his forehead against Natsu's in a standoff.
"You two…" Without even looking, Erza threw a punch at both of them, knocking them flat on the ground.
"Cana, what do you think?" Levy, wearing a bitter smile, turned to Cana after witnessing the trio's antics.
"I haven't thought much about it. I feel it's fine to just paint the walls white, like a regular house," Cana said after tilting her head in thought.
"That won't work! Red is definitely better—it feels warmer," Natsu immediately jumped up to refute.
"And we should fill the rooms with weapons and armor to make it feel safer," Erza quickly added.
"Are you two serious?" Silver couldn't hold back a sarcastic comment. "Picture this: a completely red room filled with weapons and armor. Instead of warmth and safety, wouldn't it feel more like a slaughterhouse?"
"Is that so? Then let's not add the weapons and armor," Natsu said without hesitation, outright rejecting Erza's suggestion.
"In that case, maybe red isn't such a good idea either," Erza said seriously, reconsidering her stance.
"I still think painting fish on the walls would be better," Happy interjected, waving his paw as he hovered in the center of the group, insisting on his idea.
"Alright, alright, no need to discuss further. I've decided to stick to my own plan," Silver said quickly, cutting off the brewing argument between Erza, Natsu, and Happy.
"Huh? Your own plan?" Mira asked curiously. "Can you tell us what it is?"
"It's simple," Silver said after a moment of thought. "I don't plan to make any major changes—just repaint the walls white. As for other adjustments, I'll consider them later. Who knows? Maybe someday I'll tear down this old house and build a new one."
"If you do, remember to paint the walls red," Natsu immediately interjected.
"And fill it with weapons and armor," Erza added.
"And don't forget to paint fish on the walls!" Happy insisted, once again asserting his idea.
"How obsessed are you three with these things?" Silver couldn't help but complain again.
