Chapter 30: (30) The First Battle
Chapter 30: The First Battle
Silver didn't expect Mira to charge straight into the fight. By the time he realized what was happening, she was already unleashing her ultimate move.
While he admired her confidence, he couldn't help but think how reckless she was.
Then again, that was just how Mira was.
It would be stranger if, after determining the enemy wasn't a real threat, she didn't rush in to take them down.
As Silver was lost in thought, a shadow suddenly emerged beside him. The figure approached with an eerie laugh, saying, "Finally, that woman is gone. Now it's just you, and I can deal with you easily."
"Who are you?" Silver asked calmly, though his face showed genuine curiosity as the figure stepped into the light, stopping about ten meters away.
"I?" The figure revealed himself to be a man with a mohawk and a face painted with colorful markings. "I am Jason, the guild master of Devil's Toe. You damned light guild wizards! Not only did you attack our guild, but even after we fled to this remote place, you refuse to leave us alone…"
"Uh, yeah, about that," Silver interrupted, watching Jason's furious expression and endless ranting. "Given the situation, I think it would be better for you to just run away."
"You think I don't know what you're planning?" Jason glared at Silver. "I'll admit, that woman is powerful, far stronger than me. But you're a different story."
He glanced at the easel in front of Silver and sneered. "You're using pict magic, aren't you? I don't know how you're using it for tracking, but I do know that pict magic is weak in combat. If I kill you, your tracking magic will be gone, and I can easily escape from that woman."
"Oh really? That's news to me," Silver said, genuinely confused.
He had simply been making an observation, with no ulterior motive, but Jason's interpretation made it sound like some elaborate scheme.
"Hmph, no matter what you say, I won't believe you," Jason sneered. "Blame your bad luck for using tracking magic while I was on guard. It led me straight to you…"
Before Jason could finish, Silver cut him off. "So, you've been lurking nearby, using your guild members as bait to distract Mira, so you could sneak up and kill me. Without my tracking magic, you think you can escape her clutches. Is that it?"
"Pretty smart of you to figure that out. But it's too late now. Die, kid!" Jason roared, charging at Silver with a menacing look. His hands glowed faintly with purple light as he closed the gap.
However, just as Jason got within four or five meters of Silver, he noticed Silver pointing a cylindrical object at him.
Before he could react, there was a loud bang, and countless tiny, scorching-hot pellets struck his face.
The sheer force sent him staggering backward and crashing to the ground, screaming in pain.
Watching Jason writhe on the ground, clutching his face in agony, Silver raised an eyebrow and muttered, "Even with his magical defenses, a point-blank shotgun blast only managed to burn his face. Looks like I'll need something more powerful for guys like him next time."
"Damn brat…" Jason growled as he began to recover from the burns.
Fueled by rage, he pushed himself off the ground, his eyes blazing like a demon's.
He fixed his furious gaze on Silver and began advancing slowly.
Jason didn't realize, however, that Silver's pict magic was far from ordinary.
As Jason approached, Silver quickly altered the image on his easel, adding a few strokes to modify the terrain.
The entire process took less than a second.
Suddenly, Jason's foot twisted unnaturally with a soft crack, and he toppled to the ground again.
Taking advantage of the moment, Silver's attire transformed into a suit of metal armor, complete with a massive hammer.
With a sinister chuckle, he hefted the hammer and began smashing it down on the fallen Jason.
Boom!
Boom!
Boom!
The sound of heavy blows echoed through the silent forest.
After countless strikes, Jason could no longer endure.
His face twisted with fear and frustration before he finally passed out.
"Phew…" Silver let out a long sigh of relief as he saw Jason collapse. He relaxed, his tense body finally easing.
At that moment, Mira stepped out from behind a tree and asked, "All done?"
"When did you come back?" Silver asked, letting out another breath of relief as Mira stepped out from behind a tree.
"Right when you exposed his plan," Mira replied with a faint smile as she walked closer.
"Then why didn't you step in earlier?" Silver grumbled, realizing she had been there before the fight even started.
"If I had stepped in early, how would you have gotten any practice?" Mira shot him a sideways glance.
"So, what do we do now?" Silver asked.
"Drag him and follow me," Mira said, gesturing toward the unconscious Jason on the ground. "I've already reported this to the Magic Council. They'll be sending people soon to take these dark guild members into custody."
"Got it," Silver nodded. Instead of immediately grabbing Jason, he pulled out a sheet of paper and began sketching a few syringes on it.
As the drawing took shape, a nearby rock silently dissolved into the magical image.
Moments later, Silver waved his hand, and one of the syringes materialized in his grasp, disappearing from the drawing.
Seeing Silver delay and start creating something new, Mira tilted her head in curiosity. "What are you doing?"
"This is a muscle relaxant," Silver explained. "It's to make sure he doesn't wake up halfway and try to escape. Once I inject this, even if he wakes up, he won't be able to move."
With that, Silver injected the relaxant into Jason's arm. After tidying up, he grabbed Jason by the collar and dragged him all the way to the ruins.
When they arrived, Silver saw the remaining members of Devil's Toe tied up in a heap on the ground, courtesy of Mira.
Pointing at the immobilized group, Mira said, "Inject each of them with the relaxant too. Better safe than sorry."
