Chapter 21: (21) The Magic Performance
Chapter 21: The Magic Performance
Three days passed in the blink of an eye. While preparing performances for the children, Silver also took precautions and readied stories suitable for the adults, just in case.
On the morning of the banquet, starting at 10 AM, guests began arriving at the Colt family estate. From that point onward, Silver and Cana began their performances.
"Just as you said, only a few kids came over to watch our show. The adults don't seem to care at all," Silver remarked, glancing at the small group of children gathered in front of the stage.
Meanwhile, he controlled animated figures with his magic, while Cana dazzled the children with magical orbs created from her card magic.
"Exactly. Most kids won't stay here for long either. Their attention spans are short, and they'll soon get bored of these performances and start exploring the castle instead," Cana replied with a chuckle, hearing the cheers of the children mesmerized by the colorful lights.
Cana was entirely at ease; these performances were second nature to her. Her card magic was incredibly versatile—not only useful for combat and divination but also for summoning and entertainment.
As time passed, the children, as Cana had predicted, quickly grew tired of the colorful displays.
Without an audience, there was no need to keep performing.
The real performance, however, wouldn't start until 8 PM, which marked the banquet's highlight.
Yet, what caused trouble for Cana and Silver was the unexpected appearance of a well-dressed young man in his twenties who had made his way to the stage.
Watching the shifting colors with a critical eye, he asked Cana, "Don't you have anything else to show? I'm tired of these ever-changing lights. Every banquet is the same. Isn't there something more exciting and unique in this world?"
"Looks like we've got someone who knows what he's talking about," Cana muttered with interest, halting her performance and addressing the young man. "What kind of performance are you looking for?"
"Something special, something I haven't seen before," the young man replied, his face adorned with a transparent but fake smile.
"If you're looking for something you've never seen before, you've come to the right place," Cana replied without taking offense at the young man's insincere expression.
Such smiles were typical of young nobles, whose acting skills weren't as refined as their elders'.
With the young man's request in mind, Cana went backstage and said to Silver, "Silver, there's someone out there who knows what they're talking about. Show him some of your so-called magic tricks."
"No problem," Silver replied confidently. He had been watching everything from backstage and was already prepared before Cana approached.
As soon as she spoke, Silver set up his easel and directed the animated figures to take a few metal rings to the stage.
Once on stage, the animated figure handed the rings to the young man and, through Silver's magic, spoke, "Here, you can inspect these rings to make sure there's nothing unusual about them."
"Hey, Silver, aren't you worried that he might take offense to this?" Cana called out from backstage. In this world, such requests could be seen as an insult to someone from a prestigious family.
"Don't worry. If he's asking for something he's never seen before, he shouldn't be offended by such a minor thing," Silver replied confidently.
As expected, the young man didn't mind the request. Instead, he seemed intrigued, eagerly taking the rings and examining them one by one. "Oh? Is this part of the performance?" he asked with curiosity.
"Yes, because the next part of the performance involves these rings, it's necessary for the audience to verify them first," Silver explained with a slight smile. Taking the rings back from the young man, he returned to the center of the stage. "Alright, you've inspected these rings, and they're completely sealed, correct?"
"That's right. I can confirm they are," the young man replied with a nod.
"Well then..." Silver, controlling the animated figure, picked up two metal rings and forcefully struck them together.
With a crisp clang, the two rings seemed to magically pass through each other's solid edges, now interlocked into a single chain.
Smiling, the animated figure asked the young man, "So, are you still certain these are completely sealed metal rings?"
"Huh? What's going on here?" The young man froze in surprise. He quickly stepped onto the stage and took the interlocked rings from the animated figure.
Pulling them apart with some force, he found that the two rings seemed naturally linked, producing metallic clink-clink sounds as they moved against each other.
Magic in this world was indeed extraordinary, capable of achieving feats beyond normal imagination—changing the color of clothes, summoning bizarre creatures, flying in the sky, and even spatial teleportation.
The young man had seen all kinds of magic, but he had never witnessed a performance like this, nor could he fathom what kind of magic had been used.
"Can you separate them again?" After thoroughly inspecting the rings, the young man handed them back to the animated figure, curiosity evident in his tone.
"Of course," Silver replied confidently.
"Can I stand here and watch?" the young man asked, his intrigue intensifying.
"If you'd like, feel free," Silver said without hesitation.
Thrilled by Silver's response, the young man fixed his gaze on the animated figure's hands, not blinking for a second. The figure firmly pulled the rings apart with a sudden motion.
Clang!
The crisp sound echoed again, and in the blink of an eye, the rings were once again separate and fully intact.
"How… How is this possible? I didn't see you use any magic. Does this mean it's not magic at all? Or is there something I missed?" The young man's voice was filled with disbelief.
Despite watching closely, he saw no magical circles or symbols, which only deepened his confusion.
He took the two now-separated rings again and began a meticulous inspection, pressing and probing every inch with his fingers.
"Looks like he's really impressed with this performance," Cana said with a chuckle, watching the young man scrutinize the rings from backstage.
"Indeed," Silver nodded. "He probably has no idea that the figure standing in front of him is a manifestation of my pict magic. The reason the rings appear to pass through each other isn't due to any mechanism—it's because my magic can connect with physical objects and alter their properties…"
