Chapter 35: The Epic Sleepover: Part Ten
Anne's phone began to vibrate and sound a jingle.
Anne quickly looked at the screen...and widened her eyes upon seeing Olivier's name in bold lettering.
"It's Ollie!" exclaimed Anne.
"Really?, what'd he say?!" spoke Luz, interested.
Anne opened the text manager and read the message that Olivier had sent.
[ANN. I NEED TO C YOU]
[JUST U...PLEASE]
Anne stared at the captions. Deep down. she felt that Olivier wasn't in a good state of mind right now.
breathing out, she tapped a reply: [WHERE?]
Anne waited for Olivier to answer back, her foot tapping nervously.
[TEH MANOR ROOF. ILL MEET U THER]
Anne tapped one more reply: [OTW. LUV YOU, OLLIE]
[LUV U MORE] answered Olivier.
Anne breathed out as she put her phone away.
"Well?" spoke Luz, wanting an answer.
"Is Oliver okay?" asked Sprig.
Anne frowned as she shook her head. "I don't know. he wants to see me...alone."
Luz and Sprig frowned, feeling concerned.
"I have to go." said Anne, as she walked off.
Sprig attempted to follow, but Anne stopped him.
"no sprig. this is a major Olivanne thing." spoke Anne, softly.
"But-"
"Sprig, Please." continued Anne, her tone still quiet. "you remember what Ollie was like when he first found us?"
Sprig paused. and immediately got what Anne was saying. "that bad, huh?"
Anne silently nodded. "He's...in a bad place right now. he needs me."
Now Luz looked at Anne with soft eyes. "he is lucky to have someone like you, Anne."
Luz then hugged Anne. "go. and give him some extra love from me."
Anne smiled weakly. "I will."
Anne finally turned around, and began to walk away.
Luz and Sprig watched her leave with sad looks on their faces.
Once Anne left the room...Sprig looked down.
Luz the patted the pink frog boy on the head, and with a smile led him away.
Anne walked down the long corridor of Clawthorne Manor.
Ordinarily, she would be stopping to admire everything in it.
but her mind was now focused only on Olivier and what she was going to do to help him.
Her mind began racing, playing her whole history with Olivier
in her mind like a Supercut Highlight of various home movies.
She reminisced on when she and Olivier first met in Amphibia.
The rocky start that their friendship had, and how it gradually blossomed into a romance.
She remembered how reclusive and distant that the Witch Boy had once been.
Always keeping her at arm's length, acting like he didn't want to be around her...
...but Anne knew better. Even then, she could see that Olivier NEEDED companionship
and wasn't going to give up on him, no matter how much he ran from her and pushed her away.
Her persistence paid off. And now, Olivier no longer hid his feelings from her.
Even he knew that he needed her, and he needed her Right Now.
But...what was she going to do? What could she say to help soothe his anxiety?
She couldn't just 'Blame Amity', that wasn't going to do any good.
Even though much of this WAS her fault, Olivier needed to think more positively.
Anne knew first hand that thinking too much about upsetting things will only make you feel worse.
Anne stopped for a moment. Her mind now on something else...something more Personal.
Sasha...and Marcy.
They had both been her best friends since childhood.
And yet each one ended up betraying her trust in different ways.
Sasha had betrayed her trust. not once, but TWICE.
And Marcy...Her betrayal hurt the most.
At least with Sasha, Anne kind of expected her to lie (she did it all the time to others.)
But Marcy...she was the LAST person that Anne had ever expected to deceive her.
Anne shed a silent tear. Nothing hurt more than being betrayed by a trusted friend.
Small wonder then why Olivier felt so angry when he saw Amity Blight again.
Like Sasha and Marcy, Amity had been Olivier's best friend since childhood.
AND like them (well, Sasha mostly) Amity had betrayed Olivier's trust.
a Hurt like that...isn't easy to forgive.
As Anne resumed walking, she was unaware that she wasn't alone.
a pair of golden eyes watched her from the shadows,
silently following her, but keeping a distance away as not to be discovered.
Anne opened up a ceiling door and climbed onto the roof of the Mansion.
She paused for just a moment once the scenic view came before her.
"Ohh...oh my frog." spoke Anne, awestruck.
Anne gazed at the acres of forest and ethereal skies.
It was no Frog Valley, but the Enchanted Forest more than lived up to its name.
Resembling the artwork that she would see in one of those fantasy JRPG's that her dad would play.
a gentle breeze blew, making her bushy hair and pink skirt sway in the wind.
Anne then inhaled deeply, and smiled. As bizarre as this place was,
it had its own unique beauty that she couldn't help but admire.
(no wonder Luz loved this place so much. It truly was a real life fantasy.)
However, this soon made Anne think of Amphibia again.
Though vastly different, the world she recently left wasn't that different from the Boiling Isles.
and Anne found herself missing the world that she had tried so hard to leave.
With that, Anne felt a pang of guilt within her soul.
She actually...Regretted leaving Amphibia, and wishing she could go back.
Suddenly something her mother once said to her made sense:
'You'll never know how precious something is, until you one day lose it.'
Anne sighed. She really had no idea how fortunate she was to live in such a wonderful world with her adoptive frog family.
"i'm sorry..." spoke Anne, imagining she was speaking to Amphibia itself.
Anne then walked along the roof, making very careful steps.
After a while...she finally spotted a familiar bush of auburn come into view.
Anne paused, breathing steadily. She then finally started to approach Olivier.
"um...hey." spoke Anne, softly.
Olivier was sitting near the edge of the rooftop, hugging his bent knees as he stared off at the landscape before him.
After Olivier didn't answer her, Anne walked over and sat down beside her boyfriend.
"I'm here, Ollie." spoke Anne. "JUST ME. no one else."
Olivier let out a silent breath, his body trembling.
Anne scooted closer. she then reached out, and gently touched the boy's shoulder.
"It's just you and me here, ollie." repeated Anne, her voice softer.
Olivier suddenly moved as fast as lightning...and embraced Anne, holding her tight.
Anne was frozen, stunned at the sudden action. but quickly hugged Olivier back.
"it's okay...it's okay." repeated Anne. "I'm here."
"I'm sorry." spoke Olivier, finally. "I've ruined everything."
"What?" exclaimed Anne, pulling away to look at her boyfriend. "What makes you say that?!"
"this was supposed to be your night to spend with Luz..." continued Olivier.
"But I selfishly made it about me, and I ruined everyone's enjoyment with my bad attitude."
Anne frowned, glancing away for a moment.
"I will admit, things tonight MAYBE could've...gone better.
But I don't blame you for feeling the way you do. I would've felt the same way."
While Olivier still felt guilty, he decided not to continue his 'pity party'.
He knew full well that Anne would continue to absolve him of any guilt until the stars burnt out.
Instead, he shifted his lament on something else...
"I thought I was over it...I truly believed that I had moved on." spoke Olivier.
"You're talking about Amity, right?"
Olivier nodded sadly.
"I don't know how. but just the very sight of her put me right back where I was all those months ago.
It's like all the progress I made to recover from what happened to me...became undone in just one moment."
Anne frowned as she continued to look at Olivier. As the boy started to tremble again, Anne quickly embraced him.
"i'm sorry...I'm so sorry." spoke Olivier, close to a breakdown. "I should be better than this."
"don't be so hard on yourself, ollie...you are allowed to feel vulnerable." spoke Anne, softly.
"I don't blame you for feeling the way that you do. what you went through, what happened to you...it was Horrible.
and Trauma like that isn't something that you can just Get Over.
It's like a scar that you can't see...It may hurt less overtime, but the pain NEVER goes away."
Olivier pulled away to look at Anne. Taking in the words she was speaking.
They were oddly profound (which was very unlike Anne, but he didn't question it.)
"I hate this...I hate feeling this way." spoke Olivier, gripping her head stressfully.
Anne put her arm around Olivier, holding him close.
"I wish I could've been there... I know it wasn't my fault, since I didn't know you then.
But I still wish I could've been there for you back then... But, I'm here for you NOW."
Anne then turned Olivier around, making him look at her. She gently touched his face and stared into his eyes softly.
"whatever else happens... I want you to know that you don't have to deal with this alone.
If you ever fall again, I'll be there to not only pick you back up...but Hold you up.
And I swear on my life that I will NEVER let anyone hurt you ever again."
Olivier stared, feeling a rush of emotion as Anne's words echoed in his mind.
He wanted to believe them, but he then remembered something that Amity said prior.
"but...what about your family?" asked Olivier.
"I did promise to get you back to your own world, the Human World.
But...if I do, we may never see each other again. We literally come from two worlds."
Anne touched Olivier's face with even more tenderness.
"we'll find a way...I promise." said Anne.
As Anne looked at Olivier, the latter stared back at her. Olivier then touched her face with the same tenderness as her.
Anne's hazel eyes then gleamed blue, while Olivier's Gold and Sapphire eyes gleamed.
a Gold, Sapphire and Cyan glow overtook them as each of their magicks swept over one another.
The pair then began to hear soft music that seemed to radiate from themselves.
Anne then began to sing softly…
"In a perfect world. One we've never known.
We would never need to face the world alone.
They can have the world. We'll create our own.
I may not be brave or strong or smart, But somewhere in my secret heart
I know, Love will find a way. Anywhere I go, I'm home. If you are there beside me
Like dark, turning into day. Somehow we'll come through. Now that I've found you
Love will find a way..."
Olivier smiled a Anne, and began to sing softly as well.
"I was so afraid. But I realized: Love is never wrong, And so it never dies.
There's a perfect world, Shining in your eyes..."
Anne and Olivier held their faces as they sang together in perfect harmony.
(("...And if only they could feel it too. The happiness I feel with you!
They'd know. Love will find a way.
Anywhere we go, We're home! If we are there together!
Like dark, turning into day.
Somehow we'll come through, Now that I've found you
Love will find a way! I. know. love. will. find. a. waaaay..."))
Olivier and Anne looked at each other. their eyes half closed as then slowly leaned forward.
But just as their lips were inches away from touching...there was a flash in the sky.
"Huh?...WHOA!, what's that!?" exclaimed Anne, staring up at the ethereal sky.
Olivier looked to see what had suddenly gotten Anne's attention.
(Music: Sonic Frontiers, Kronos Island Theme.)
a bright light was shining in the night sky, almost like a small moon.
Then hundreds of streaks of light, each one a different color, burst from the light.
The two teenagers watched as the rainbow lights streaks from the sky
and all began to fall down to the ground below, creating mild tremors.
Afterwards, various multicolored light beams shined up at the sky like spotlights.
...ONE was right in the Clawthorne Manor Courtyard.
"what...IS that?" repeated Anne.
Without saying a word, Olivier stood up and scooped Anne up bridal style.
Anne held onto him as the Witch Boy hopped down from the roof,
to a balcony and finally down at the courtyard where a cyan light beam was.
Olivier put Anne down and the pair approached the source of the light.
Anne's mouth gaped upon seeing a shimmering, rainbow colored crystal.
"It's a fallen star." spoke Olivier, answering Anne's earlier question.
"On some nights, there is something called a 'Starfall Event' here on the Isles.
Crystal Meteors that are brimming with magic fall from the sky.
Me and Mom often gathered the fallen stars to use as special ingredients for our potions.
We would have to be quick though, as the stars disappear after an hour or so if they aren't contained."
Anne looked ahead, seeing the many light beams shining like an 80s Rave.
(something that only she knew about due to her parents having an '80s Night Out' on their anniversaries.)
"Looks like they all landed in this area far from the city."
"They often do." said Olivier.
Anne then knelt down, and picked up the fallen star before her.
Her eyes glowed, and a chill shot through her as she touched the crystal.
"whoa. I can feel the energy in this thing...IT'S JUICING!"
Olivier used his magic to summon a bag, and put the crystal into it.
"hey...Ollie." spoke Anne.
"Hm?"
Anne then smirked in a way that reminded Olivier of his mother. "Wanna go catch some fallen stars?"
Olivier looked at his girlfriend...and then at the many light beams ahead.
"well...We already got ONE. (*chortles*) might as well get some more."
Anne smiled as Olivier handed her the bag...and then picked her up again.
"oh!" exclaimed Anne, blushing in Olivier's arms.
"Brace yourself. We gotta move fast." said Olivier.
Anne put her arms around Olivier, holding onto him. "You run, I'll gather."
Olivier smiled at Anne (who smiled back at him.)
Olivier's body then began to charge up with golden energy,
before finally releasing it in a burst of speed that sounded like a cannonball firing.
Anne held tight as Olivier ran at super speed, leaving a trail of golden light behind him.
Wind blew past her face, but not so much that she had to close her eyes.
As the forest rushed past her, Anne held onto Olivier and smiled contently.
Had anyone very told Anne on the day before her 13th birthday over six months ago
that she would one day meet and fall in love with an witch boy with actual magic powers,
and go on an adventure in a real life fantasy world...SHE WOULD'VE LAUGHED IN THEIR FACES!
(...and maybe even think said person was insane, and punch and run from them.)
Sometimes Anne wondered if this was all real, and not just a vivid dream that she was having.
In fact, she was terrified that at any moment she would wake up to a world where Olivier didn't exist.
BUT as Anne leaned against Olivier and inhaled the scent of his hair,
she smiled, realizing that this wasn't a dream. it was Real...HE was real.
And Anne felt so thankful to have met Olivier, and have him in her life.
It was then that Anne realized something: It was MARCY who had brought her and Olivier together!
Anne widened her eyes as a newfound clarity made her realize that while her intentions were selfish,
had Marcy never trapped her and Sasha in Amphibia with her, then she might've never met Olivier.
Had she never stolen that music box...she would still be a lazy, self-centered yes-girl.
And Olivier...well, he would've still ended in Amphibia.
And while he might've still saved Maddie from that giant snake,
he most likely would've ended up a lonely recluse if she had never been there with him.
(or, Grunge might've actually corrupted him like something out of Return of the Sith!)
Heck, Olivier probably would've never found his way back home without Sasha,
and Marcy's actions triggering the series of events that led to right now.
Without Marcy, she and Ollie would've Never met. They would've Never befriended each other, and...fell in love.
Anne closed her eyes as she mused on her epiphany.
("marcy...") thought Anne.
("what you did was wrong...but I guess in some weird way, you were right.
I did become a better person...and because of what you did, I did get to meet the love of my life.")
Anne shed a small tear. ("I...I forgive you, Marcy.") spoke Anne in her mind.
("thank you for bringing me and ollie together. You really were-ARE my best friend.")
"Anne, are you okay?"
Anne opened her eyes to see Olivier looking at her.
"I'm...fine." spoke Anne, wiping her eyes.
"I'll slow down if the wind is too much for you." said Olivier, concerned.
"N-No, It's okay! I'll be alright." said Anne (deciding to keep her inner thoughts to herself for now)
Olivier shrugged. "Okay."
As Olivier sped off with Anne...Amity Blight finally emerged from the shadows,
Watching from the rooftop of Clawthorne Manor with a sad expression on her face.
She gazed at the rainbow of starlight in the distance...and breathed out softly.
Remembering a time when She, Willow and Olivier would hunt for fallen stars at night.
Amity then looked up, and saw a star of purple light still falling from the sky.
Ignoring all logic, Amity then closed her eyes and made a silent wish that was more of a prayer.
Hoping to the Titan, or whatever cosmic that exists...that it would come true.
