Chapter 27: The Epic Sleepover: Part Two
As Night Fell, Luz was happily laying down sleeping bags in a circle
upon the floor of Clawthorne Manor's Observatory Room.
Said room was huge, with tall bookshelves just full of books
with giant, dome-shaped window at the ceiling granting a stellar view of the starry sky up above.
"Wow, this *IS* almost like Camping...only INDOORS." mused Anne, amazed.
Olivier smiled. "This always was one of my favorite places when visiting my Grandparents.
When I was a kid, I sometimes just fell asleep watching the stars under the dome."
Both Willow and Amity smiled and nodded. "I remember that...I miss those times we shared."
Olivier fell silent for a moment. "so do I..."
"Eh, I guess it's fine. But nothing beats the real thing!" said Sprig, as he leaped onto Anne's back.
Luz, Amity and Willow all giggled. Amused at Pink Frog Boy from a whole other Realm.
Willow herself was holding Polly like a stuffed animal (which Polly was only MILDLY tolerating.)
Anne began to spin around as she looked up at the glass dome.
"Careful, Annie. You don't wanna get dizzy!" said Olivier.
"Sorry dude. This is just SO COOL!" exclaimed Anne.
"It kinda reminds me of when my family took me to an Observatory when I was little.
All those stars, planets and galaxies, It made me want to be an Astronaut for awhile."
Willow and Amity looked puzzled. "What's an Astronaut?"
"a Human Explorer that explores Outer Space." answered Luz.
"Outer what?" spoke Amity, confused.
"She means 'The Void' beyond the sky." spoke Olivier.
"There are other worlds and realms among the stars, apparently.
So many in fact, that our realm is like a single grain of sand in a vast Desert."
Amity and Willow looked awestruck.
"you know...Before, we might've been skeptical about that.
But considering what we've seen recently...We wouldn't be surprised if all that is true."
"Trust me...IT IS." said Olivier (his mind thinking back to the Calamity Box and King Andrias.)
"Okay, everyone sit down in a circle..." began Luz. "I'll draw up a Light Glyph, and-"
"Save your drawing paper for a more important situation, Luz." spoke Olivier, with a grin. "I got this."
As the group all sat down, They watched as Olivier put his palms together and materialized a ball of light.
"wow...You didn't even draw a spell ring like Eda does!" remarked Luz, Amazed.
"I have surpassed that style of spellcasting..." spoke Olivier, as he conjured another ball of light.
"My time in Amphibia taught me there is no 'one way' to practice magic."
Both Willow and Amity gazed in wonder and awe at this. (("whoaaa..."))
"Spoken like a true Wild Witch!" exclaimed Luz, smiling. "You really are Eda's Son."
Olivier blushed mildly at this. "thanks...I try to make her proud of me."
Luz smiled. "I am certain that she is."
As Olivier continued to create more orbs of light, Amity started to get up.
"do you...need any help with-"
"no." said Olivier, bluntly.
"well if you feel too drained, I can-"
"Light Spells take the least amount of energy, Blight. You should know this."
Everyone looked at each other, all feeling very awkward now.
Amity paused for a moment...but still she persisted. "y-yes, well...Just let me know if you-"
"Sit. DOWN, Blight." spoke Olivier, speaking like a stern parent would to a child.
Amity sat back down without another word.
"hey..." spoke Luz. "Amity didn't mean any harm, she just wanted to help!"
"Sorry, Luz...but I don't need *HER* help." said Olivier calmly. "I haven't for a long, LONG time."
Luz was about to say something...when Amity grasped her hand.
Looking to the golden eyed witch, she saw Amity shake her head 'no'.
With a deep sigh, Luz decided to be silent and not press the issue further.
It took no less than a minute for Olivier to finish.
And once he did, the room was filled with balls of light of various sizes.
Which gave the illusion of being among dozens of fluttering fireflies.
"wooow...That is so pretty." spoke Luz.
Anne smiled as she hugged her legs. "just like our first date...Remember, Ollie?"
The Witch Boy smiled warmly as he looked back to the Thai Girl. "I'll never forget that night, Annie."
Olivier then walked over and sat down next to Anne.
"It was when I finally got over being reclusive, and started opening up to you."
Anne blushed as she looked at Olivier. "And we talked for hours at our 'special place',
and then all those Fireflies showed up out of nowhere."
"And we just fell asleep underneath the stars." finished Olivier.
As Anne and Olivier reminisced, Luz, Willow and Amity just smiled.
"Aww...that sounds so Romantic!" spoke Luz, forlorn.
"Makes me almost envious that you got to go to such a place, Ollie." spoke Willow.
"This Amphibia sounds like a Beautiful Paradise."
Olivier looked to Willow. "well...It isn't perfect, and my first month there wasn't easy.
But...yeah. With your affinity for Nature Magic, you would've loved being there."
"well...Me and the Plantars STILL need to get back eventually." spoke Maddie.
"So, You may get your chance to see it with us, Willow."
Willow smiled at the tiny, blue frog girl. "I'll look forward to it.
Especially after what you told us so far with how BIG, and Exotic the plants are there."
"Yeah!" spoke Amity. "We could all go together...Just like we always talked about doing as kids!"
Both Olivier and Maddie cast scowls at Amity, wordlessly disapproving of what she was implying.
Sensing the tension, Luz quickly changed the subject.
"So, ANNE...T-Tell us more about yourself. What was your life like back in the Human Realm?"
Anne was all too happy to answer this question to ease the rising tension.
"Well...My parents immigrated from Thailand, and run a Restaurant in Los Angeles, California.
I can't really say much about myself, as I was...Kinda a slacker, a "Go With the Flow" kinda gal.
I really had no dreams and ambitions of my own, and just helped others with their own stuff."
"That sounds very Noble." spoke Willow.
Anne frowned. "I liked to think that I was...But I ended up doing some "shady" stuff, too.
I've done things that when I look back at them now...I really wish I had made better choices."
Amity frowned as Anne's words forced her to remember her own past 'bad choices',
and much like Anne herself, wished she had done things differently upon reflection.
"I know you weren't a perfect person, Annie..." spoke Olivier.
"But even back THEN, you only had the best of intentions at heart.
You just...had difficulty saying 'No' to people, that's all."
Anne smiled at her boyfriend. "I appreciate that...I really do.
BUT, I need to take responsibility for my actions and not pretend like it was no big deal.
I stole that Music Box...I committed a crime that I knew was wrong.
And because of that, All sorts of mega serious stuff happened."
Olivier shrugged. "fair enough: "Actions DO Have Consequences..." BUT, you weren't solely at fault back then."
"Yeah, I know...i know." spoke Anne, softly.
Luz, Willow and Amity looked at each other with confusion.
While they had been informed of MOST of Anne and Olivier's adventures in this Amphibia Realm,
they couldn't help but feel that there was some things they HADN'T told them yet.
(Case in point being Anne's other friends: Sasha Waybright and Marcy Wu,
who were 'glossed over' in their earlier exposition recap, and just barely mentioned.)
"I...can't help but feel that we are missing some context here." spoke Luz.
Anne and Olivier looked at Luz. "yeah, we know. And you'll get an explanation...Eventually." spoke Olivier.
"Some mighty serious stuff went down recently, and...we're not ready to unpack ALL of that just yet."
Anne frowned as she briefly recalled their 'Showdown' with King Andrias,
and how everything just fell to pieces right before they were all transported back to Olivier's World.
"Was it really that bad?" asked Luz.
Polly let out a loud laugh in response.
Anne nodded. "trust me, Luz...we'll tell you when the time is right.
but...Yeah. to sum it up in a few words: "Sh*t Got Real."
Luz sat back, exhaling sharply. "yeah...same here.
Things got REALLY tense when Eda got captured, and Belos took her portal."
Olivier tensed up at this. "Speaking of, I have yet to get a full explanation on that.
Such as How and WHY my mom's magic is now weaker, and one of her eyes is discolored."
"You mean that isn't her normal eye color?" spoke Anne.
"No, they're suppose to both be gold. Not Gold and Grey." answered Olivier.
"How odd...I assumed they were, considering your eyes are Gold and Blue." continued Anne.
Olivier blushed a little, realizing the convenient similarity his mother now shared with him.
Luz grimaced during this, knowing full well that Olivier wouldn't like what he wanted to know.
"well...like You and Anne said: "we'll tell you when the time is right." said Luz (who then held her breath.)
Olivier stared as the Hispanic girl...and then shrugged. "fair enough...It can wait."
Luz quietly exhaled, relieved to had dodged that bullet.
Just then, a familiar voice rang out: "Hey, Kiiiids!"
Everyone looked to see Eda, the Owl Lady herself appear out of nowhere.
"So, how goes The Epic Sleepover?" spoke Eda.
Anne couldn't suppress her grin as she gazed up at Eda.
It was strange, but she was almost 'fangirling' like Marcy would at a Comic-Con.
Eda was just such a Cool and Awesome person in Anne's eyes...AND was also her boyfriend's own mother
(it was almost like finding out one of your friends from school is related to a famous Pop Star!)
Anne wanted nothing more than to please Eda, and NEVER wanted to disappoint her.
...she prayed she never would.
"Everything is fine, mom." said Olivier.
Eda smiled. she then knelt down, and ruffled Olivier's hair.
"you SURE, kiddo? cuz...I know that things aren't quite the way you like it right now."
Olivier cast a glance over to Amity (knowing full well that SHE was what his mother was referring to.)
"I'm...Trying. but...it isn't easy." said Olivier, softly.
Eda smiled again, and then hugged Olivier (which made the boy blush hard.) "MAMA..."
"I'm so glad that you're back home...I'll finally be able to get some sleep." spoke Eda, softly.
Olivier paused for a moment, and then finally relented and hugged his mother back.
After awhile, Eda finally let her son go and ruffled his hair once more.
"If you ever need me...just let me know. I won't be far away." said Eda.
"ss-sure mom...I will." said Olivier. "and I'll...t-try to...have a good time tonight."
Eda smiled again. "that's m'boy." Eda then looked to the others. "Have fun, kids...Mama's gonna get some shut eye."
"Sure, Eda. Sweet Dreams." said Luz.
Eda chortled. "I think I just might..."
Eda finally turned and walked away. Once gone, Luz looked to Olivier. "Sooo..."
"Hm?, Something on your mind?" inquired Olivier.
"What is it like having Eda as a Mom?" said Luz, her eyes bright.
Olivier paused as he pondered this question.
"I'm kinda curious about that myself." spoke Anne. "...she seems like a fun gal."
"Yeeeah, there is rarely a dull moment with her." spoke Olivier (chuckling awkwardly.)
"My Mom...isn't like MOST mothers. At times, she more like an Fun Aunt, or Older Sister."
Olivier then bore a soft expression. "but...when I needed a Mom the most: She was there.
She wasn't perfect, but she was the one who raised me...even though she didn't have to."
Olivier then breathed out softly. "I wanted SO BADLY to pay back all the love that she gave me.
That's why I strived to become stronger...So I could be strong enough to lift her curse."
Olivier then scowled. "I swear, if I ever get my hands on the witch that DID curse my mother...
...I will make them wish they had never been born!"
"YEAH!" exclaimed Polly, as she pounded her tiny fists. "REVEEENGE!"
This statement from Olivier made Luz, Amity and Willow grimace nervously.
"Let's try and focus on something more positive, Ollie."
"Aww!" whined Polly.
"Anne's right!, let's not dwell on the negatives." chirped Luz. "It's not good for your mental health."
Olivier looked at everyone...and then shrugged. "guess you're right...sorry."
Luz (as usual) gave a bright smile. "It's Okay! SO, you have any plans now that you're back home!?"
"You mean apart from finding a way back to Amphibia?, not at the moment, no." answered Olivier.
Luz frowned. "Hey, I get that's your goal...I also want to find a way back home one day.
BUT, that may take some time, so in the meantime...Is there anything else you plan on doing?"
"Liiike...Enrolling back into Hexside?" asked Willow.
"Hah!, when the Boiling Seas freeze solid, maybe..." scoffed Olivier.
Willow frowned, feeling disappointed. "oh...I see."
"Why don't you want to go back to Hexside?" asked Luz "It's FUN!"
"I have my reasons...YOU should know that." said Olivier, his tone stern.
"BESIDES...I learned more about magic in Amphibia, than Hexside ever could teach me.
At this point, I have far surpassed the teachers there and becoming their student again would be a Joke."
"All the more reason to enroll again..." spoke Amity, smirking.
"you know...Rub it in their faces just how much stronger you've become."
Olivier gave Amity a glance. "tempting...but, I've got nothing to prove."
Anne looked at Olivier with an awkward expression. "um...oh-ollie?"
Olivier glanced over at Anne. "yeah, Annie?"
"I...kinda want to see this Hexside place."
Olivier stared at Anne dumbfoundedly. "what?"
"I'm a little curious at what a real life magic school is like..." began Anne.
"and, Who Knows?: It could help me get better at controlling my Calamity Powers."
"Anne...TRUST ME. there is nothing Hexside could teach you that Me and Mom couldn't." began Olivier.
"PLUS, it'll be safer that way. Hexside has it's own hidden dangers that I don't want you exposed to."
"Hexside isn't as bad as you remember, Olivier." spoke Luz. "Even *I* attend Hexside, and I LOVE IT!"
Olivier gave Luz a stern look. "Has Boscha been expelled?"
"uhh...no?"
"Then nothing has changed since I've been there." said Olivier, darkly.
Luz frowned...but then Anne placed her hand on Olivier's shoulder.
"hey...I understand your reluctance to have me go to that place. but...It's what I want to do, Ollie.
I want to see what this Hexside is like, and...at the very least, stand with Luz
so she isn't the only magically gifted human attending that school as a student."
"Yeah!" exclaimed Luz. "Us Humans gotta stick together!"
Olivier scowled, feeling very unsure about this.
"...Olivier." Olivier looked at Willow. "If it'll make you feel better,
we'll keep an eye on Anne for you and make sure Boscha doesn't mess with her."
Olivier was silent for a moment...and then looked to Anne once more.
"You REALLY want to attend Hexside that badly, huh?"
Anne nodded. "Just for as long as I am here. Once we get a portal working, I'm Gone...PROMISE."
Olivier let out a deep sigh. "alright...If it's what you really want, then I won't stop you.
BUT, your safety is still my number one concern: So...I guess I'll have to return to Hexside with you."
(("REALLY!?")) exclaimed both Luz and Willow, excited.
"JUST...so I can watch Anne more closely, and be there if she gets into any trouble." explained Olivier.
"And by "Trouble", I mostly mean Boscha trying to harass her for being human.
I won't let what she did to ME *EVER* happen to Anne."
Anne embraced Olivier and gave him a kiss on his cheek. "my hero..."
"THIS IS SO AWESOME!" exclaimed Luz. "I can't wait to introduce you to all my other friends!"
"You have...Other Friends in Hexside?" inquired Olivier.
"Yeah!, there's Gus, who is president of the Human Appreciation Club.
Viney, who I met in Detention who is a real fun gal, and Skara-"
Suddenly, the room got much colder as Olivier's eyes began to gleam icy blue.
"did you say...SKARA?"
"Yeah!, she's in the Bard Track and is a real sweet girl-"
"Sweet" isn't how I would describe one of Boscha's lackeys." spoke Olivier, darkly.
"oh...shoot. I forgot about-"
"Hey..." spoke Maddie. "I think someone is missing."
Olivier looked around...and indeed noticed someone was absent from the group.
"Anne...Where is Sprig?!"
Anne's eyes widened upon realizing that Sprig was nowhere to be seen.
"Sprig?...SPRIIIIIIG!"
"oh frog dammit..." grumbled Polly.
