The Owl House: Son of Edalyn (Owlphibia AU)

Chapter 19: Road to Redemption

Luz' eyes widened and her mouth opened wide as she began to have a 'Happiness Overload.'

"That was such a CUUUUUTE and Awesome story!" exclaimed Luz.

"Oh you HAVE to tell me what happened next!, What all did you do at the Convention!?"

Both Willow and Amity blush awkwardly.

"It happened so long ago, that our memory is a little foggy." spoke Willow.

"But I do remember that we had hours of fun before Olivier had to go home."

"After that, we kept meeting up in secret." spoke Amity.

"We even built our own treehouse in the forest that isn't that far from here."

Willow smiled. "yeah...We shared some good memories there.

We even had our own Moonlight Conjuring at that old Treehouse."

Luz smiled wide at this, recalling her own happy memories

when she, Willow and Gus had their Moonlight Conjuring.

"Eventually, we all attended Hexside together." continued Willow.

"Back then, It was just us Three. We were a Trio...a Trinity of Witches."

"Really!?" exclaimed Luz. "THAT'S GREAT!"

Amity's smiled then slowly faded. "It was great...until I ruined everything."

Everyone fell silent at this.

"that...wasn't REALLY your fault." spoke Willow. "It was your parents that made you do those things."

"I still went along with it..." continued Amity, still glum.

"Looking back, I could've told you that they were forcing me to break up with you.

We could've...STILL been friends, even in secret. but...I didn't. and all I did was hurt you."

Willow gave Amity a comforting hug. "It's okay...I forgive you."

Amity continued to frown. Unsure if she was worthy of forgiveness.

"Okay...so, how does Olivier fit into all that?" asked Luz.

Amity broke from Willow and faced Luz. "Olivier...TRIED to patch up my friendship with Willow.

But, I wouldn't let him...and I ended up doing to him something far worse than what I did to Willow."

Willow frowned sadly, recalling the sad events that she tried so hard to forget.

"What did you-"

Suddenly, the Owl House's front door opened and out walked Eda with Lilith.

"Are you CERTAIN of what you heard, Edalyn!?" spoke Lilith, frantic.

"Yes. My boy is back...and he's with friends." answered Eda.

"And with YOUR old friends after him, he won't be coming around here any time soon."

Lilith looked down awkwardly, feeling a hint of shame. "Do you know where he is?"

Eda looked at her sister. "No...BUT I have a good guess."

"May I accompany you?" asked Lilith.

"That won't be necessary." said Eda.

"Besides. If he is going where I think he is, then he may not want to see you just yet."

Lilith widened her eyes upon realizing just what Eda meant. "oh dear titan..."

"EDA!"

Eda and Lilith looked to see Luz, Willow...and Amity approach

(while King just scampered over to Eda's side.)

Both Lilith and Amity stared at each other, neither one able to say a word.

They hadn't spoken since that one 'incident' following Amity and Luz' duel at the Convention,

with Amity being angry at her former mentor at boosting her magic without her knowing

(Her feelings for her only grew worse upon learning how Lilith had taken Luz hostage,

and used her as a literal 'human shield' in her own duel against her own sister, Eda.)

It was strange seeing someone she had once respected and admired looking like she did now.

Part of her wanted to pity her old mentor. but another part felt she deserved worse than this...FAR WORSE.

As Amity scowled, Lilith hid her face. Feeling great shame at what she put her student through

(Just another to add to her long list of guilts and regrets, which she dreaded wouldn't be the last.)

"Hey, Kiddo." said Ed, hugging Luz. "Sorry to keep you waiting."

"It's fine. Amity and Willow were telling me about Olivier." said Luz.

Eda cast a look at Amity. "that so?..."

"Yeah!, and he sounds like a great guy!" continued Luz.

"I kinda get why, but...How come you never mentioned him AT ALL before?"

Eda frowned sadly. "Luz...there were times I wanted to. But I missed him so much,

that just saying his name was like having a knife driven through my heart."

Eda then paused for a moment.

"I thought that by...NOT speaking of him, it would make things easier." continued Eda.

"It got to the point that I even pretended he never existed at all...and that shames me."

Luz paused as she pondered this. "So...all those times that I hugged you, and you acted like you hated it-"

"I didn't." confessed Eda. "I loved your hugs...they reminded me of when my son always hugged me."

Eda then smiled weakly as she knelt down to Luz.

"Truth is...YOU reminded so much of my son." spoke Eda.

"When you first came along, it was like I got little boy back.

BUT, I knew you weren't him. I tried keep things professional between us.

but...you found your way into my heart, no matter how much I pushed you away."

Luz smiled wide, her eyes getting glossy.

"I'm sorry that I never told you about my son..." said Eda.

"I know now that I was wrong to act like he didn't exist. You DESERVED to know."

"It's okay." spoke Luz. "He's HERE now, right? We can ALL be together now."

Luz then smiled wide as she tried to contain her explosive joy.

"You know...I always wanted to have a brother growing up.

And, now it seems I'm finally gonna have one! I can't WAIT to meet him!"

Eda smiled (while wiping a stray tear from her eye.)

She DID like the idea of Herself, King, Olivier, Luz (and Hooty)

all being together in the Owl House like one, big happy family.

"yeah...me too, Kid."

Eda finally rose back back up, and addressed everyone.

"OKAY, here is the game plan...I am going to go look for Olivier." began Eda.

"I have a good idea where he is, and I am keeping that to myself for the time being."

Eda looked to Lilith. "Lily. You stay here with Hooty and the Blight Girl.

in case any of the Emperor's softball team show up...OR, Olivier actually does return home."

Lilith nodded silently (not bothering to argue this time.)

...Amity, however. DID object.

"I'd like to come along if Luz and Willow are going with you, Miss Clawthorne." said Amity.

Eda cast a scowl at Amity. "I'd rather you didn't."

Amity faced Luz' mentor. "Olivier is my friend."

This statement made Eda sprout feathers for a moment.

"you must have cast iron ovaries to make that claim after what YOU did."

Amity looked down for a moment...but stood her ground anyway.

"yeah...I know: I screwed up...It wouldn't be the first time."

Willow looked away awkwardly.

"But I've also missed him...and I feel so ashamed of the pain that I caused him." continued Amity.

"I want to make things right. So I *AM* going, whether you like it or not."

Luz blushed, impressed at Amity's defiance (even if it was against Eda.)

Eda stared at Amity...who stared right back at her.

Eda then shrugged, ultimately relenting.

"fine...I guess I can't stop you from following us." said Eda.

"But if we DO find Olivier, don't be too disappointed if he isn't happy to see you."

Amity looked down, frowning sadly. She indeed knew that all things considered,

Olivier most likely WOULDN'T greet her with open arms like he doubtlessly would with Willow.

The last time they ever saw each other...was when Olivier first left Hexside.

Even then, she could see the anger and bitterness in his once loving, joyful eyes.

Indicating he wasn't the same person that she had grown up with all those years ago.

He had changed...and SHE had been the one who changed him.

And while Amity had reverted back to the 'good' person she once was,

for all she knew...Olivier was still in the same dark place that she had left him.

Somehow...she HAD to undo the damage she had done and get her OTHER best friend back.

She feared she could never live with herself if her selfish actions forever scarred that boy.

...Olivier carried enough scars already.

"I know..." spoke Amity. "But I have to at least try."

Eda exhaled. "fine...but don't say I didn't warn you."

As Eda turned and walked away with King, both Willow and Luz approached Amity.

"That was VERY brave, Amity." said Luz.

Amity blushed. "thanks."

"But, are you ABSOLUTELY sure about this?" spoke Willow.

"Miss Clawthorne has a point: I also remember what Olivier was like the last I saw him.

And, he really isn't the same boy that we used to hang out with. He *WON'T* be happy to see you, Amity."

Amity paused as she took a moment to yet again, think back to the last time she saw Olivier.

The coldness in his eyes comparable to the mysterious Frozen Isles, that had once held such Warmth.

The raw, burning anger that she felt radiating from his body like a bonfire.

Almost as if he might've spontaneously combusted into flames if he continued looking at her.

Amity then imagined how their reunion might go based on those memories.

She saw so many different scenarios, and they were all filled with harsh words and anger.

"I know, Willow..." said Amity, finally. "but whatever happens when we do meet again: I'll endure it."

Amity then looked at Luz. "Luz...I want you to do something for me."

"Sure!, Anything."

"When me and Olivier do meet. whatever happens...DON'T defend me."

Luz' expression instantly changed from a joy, to a confusion. "what?"

Amity stared off at the forest up ahead.

"I don't expect Olivier will have any kind words to say to me.

In fact, He probably hates me. but whatever he says to me...LET HIM SAY IT.

I did a terrible thing to him three years ago...something even I haven't forgiven myself for.

And the last thing I want is for you to ruin whatever good relationship you could have with him

by making excuses for all the horrible things that I did when I was..."a different person."

"But-"

"PLEASE, Luz...Please. I...I need to face the consequences for my sins." said Amity.

"And if it means having one of my best friends venting his justified anger towards me...then, so be it."

Luz frowned as she stared at her crush.

"Just what DID you do that was so horrible? It couldn't be THAT bad."

Amity teared up as memories flashed in her mind.

Memories of Olivier, squeezed in a giant Abomination hand. Tearfully PLEADING for mercy.

"trust me, Luz. If you knew what I did...YOU might hate me, too."

There was an awkward silence...and then Luz finally sighed.

"okay...fine. Whatever happens between you two, I'll stay out of it." said Luz.

"UNLESS Olivier starts getting physically violent. THEN, I will need to step between you two."

"I don't believe it will ever come to that." said Willow.

"Ollie may be in a pretty bad place...but, he'd NEVER raise a hand at either of us.

Olivier...has always been a compassionate, and gentle person. It isn't in his nature to be violent, or cruel."

Amity frowned sadly. "The Ollie we KNEW wasn't. but, like you said: He isn't the same person anymore."

Willow and Luz looked at Amity with soft eyes.

"Okay, let's just...Cross that bridge when we get to it." spoke Luz.

"For now, let's focus on finding Oliver...Wherever he is."

The girls all nodded, and proceeded to walk over to Eda and King.

As they did, Amity briefly pulled out her Penstagram phone and browsed her Photo Gallery.

She selected a picture that showed herself as a child with Willow and Olivier.

It looked like a Selfie of the three together, in which Amity took the picture.

They all looked happy, and Olivier still had his round ears that indicated him being half human.

The picture gave Amity both Joy, and Agony...

To see just how happy they all used to be, in contrast to where they all were now.

As Amity closed the photo, she whispered a silent prayer to the Titan.
