The Overlord Descends

Chapter 11: Hope, Despair, Destruction?

Dark clouds began to stir above Orario. Every adventurer that saw how the clouds that weren't there a moment ago quickly began to form in the sky, began to feel that something wrong was going to happen. Their adventurer instincts kicked in saying to them that today was gonna be another dark day.

Somewhere in Orario, there was a figure that was talking to himself. It would be seen like that to any passerby, but that was not the truth. As with him, there was another figure that couldn't be seen with normal eyes.

"Shadow demon, go to the 37th floor of the dungeon, kill all the monsters you can and fill these three infinite haversacks I will be giving you. It is said that in one of the rooms there are monsters that are created without intervals. Go there and kill as many as you want, also, when picking the stones do your best to prioritize the ones of better quality." The figure who gave this command was Demiurge.

'I would like to go myself since the time I heard those inferior humans talking about it. I would go if I had time but... Right now I have a lot of responsibilities left by Ainz-sama.' Demiurge remembered when he first heard the humans talking about that certain floor. He had already passed that floor once but it was just a quick pass at that time they were coming to the surface so they didn't stay long in the dungeon. When he heard about it he wanted to explore the floor but he didn't have time to do it.

So the only choice he was left with was to send one of his subordinates. But right now, they were in an unknown place so they had to be cautious.

He didn't want to weaken the military power of Nazzarick by sending some of his subordinates to investigate his curiosity. He had the choice to summon one of his high-level demons but his master told him that they needed to stockpile their magic and skills. Reckless use of magic and skills were prohibited. As they needed to be in top condition if a fight were to break out.

'Although Ainz-sama also gave me this, before he left this morning' Demiurge took out a citrus orange-colored potion. The potion in hand was one of the magic potions that Ainz gave him before he left.

Ainz forgot to tell Demiurge that the gods here had their powers restricted. Although soon Demiurge would find out that is the case.

Swoosh

A sudden and unnatural gush of wind began to blow into the city.

'It seems that Ainz-sama has begun.' Demiurge said as he felt the wave of power that came inside the dungeon, It was an aura that was released when one used super tier magic.

Demiurge stretched his hands and a portal opened up. The portal was so dark that by just seeing it, one would feel that they were being sucked inside it. "Shadow demon, I will teleport you to the location."

He used a spell because he didn't think that it would use too much mana. He also wanted to hurry and send the shadow demon to explore.

-----------

The trees danced and the leaves fell as the wind blew fiercely onto them. It was inside the dungeon so one would think where did the fierce wind come from.

In front of what looked like an entrance to a cave, a robe person was standing in front of it. Beside him was a 2 meters tall horrendous creature.

The creature was equipped with a rippled sword called a flamberge and a huge shield. His armor was all made of black metal and it had red bloodlines engravings on it, that pulsed like a living being. While the creature itself was a rotten body, his eyes in particular had a red flashing light that gave off hate and killing intent for the living.

'Hmm, Although I have a death knight with me, it doesn't feel right to enter an unknown place with a low-level summon. What should I summon to for protection? Although I am high level enough to survive a surprise attack made by a group of players, there's still the feeling that I should be careful.'

Ainz didn't know what to summon at the moment. He had a lot of options when thinking of summoning something. He could use create upper-tier undead with limited uses to create a level seventy undead which honestly wasn't that good. He also could divide his uses to create a level 90 undead.

Ainz stroked his chin and wondered what sort of undead to make. The thief-type Eternal Deaths, or sensory-focused Eyeball types…

Granted, the Eternal Deaths were excellent undead to use, but they had a passive skill called [Aura of Death and Decay] which was constantly in effect. It was a potent skill that combined the effects of Ainz's [Despair Aura V (instant death)] and [Despair Aura I (fear)], making it a creature that could inflict instant death and stat penalties upon the enemy. In particular, the stat penalty was not a mind-affecting ability. This allowed the skill to bypass immunity to mind-affecting effects, which made it very hard to deal with.

That said, If this ability couldn't be turned off then he would not have a very good stroll as it would kill all the creatures he wanted to fight. And the sensory-focused Eyeball type undead was just good to find hidden enemies that couldn't even be found with special skills and magic but it didn't have a good defense stat.

He could also summon Demons but they were a bit uncontrollable and would kill all things on sight. He wanted something that could protect him and stall the enemy for him to escape if any high-level enemy appeared. He also wanted to calmly explore the floors without any need to worry about his defense.

"Ah, I know... I could summon those angels."

Although Ainz's karma value was extremely negative, he would not have a problem summoning angels, whose karma values were highly positive. There were some classes that had the penalty of not being able to summon monsters whose karma values were too different from their own, but Ainz did not have such classes.

Incidentally, the monsters summoned by those classes got stronger the closer the monsters' karma values were to their masters.

In YGGDRASIL, any disadvantages would have matching advantages as well.

Ainz told the death knight to stand guard and kill any monsters that came on sight.

He stood still and activated his super-tier magic.

Screech, Crack

Screeches of monsters came from everywhere and the loud sound of walls cracking was also heard.

A lot of monsters began to come out of the entrance to the 51st floor.

'Ah, it seems that I still was a bit careless because of my excitement from exploring this unknown dungeon.' Ainz thought as he saw the waves of monsters coming out of the cave-looking entrance. He activated his super tier magic because the last time he was here as Momon he didn't see any monsters that could harm him so he got a bit confident. But still, it was a mistake to activate the super-tier magic in a place he had only been once.

Ainz stretched out his hand, in the midst of activating the super tier spell, opened his inventory, and took out a cash shop item that had the shape of a small hourglass.

'Should I finish the activation quickly or should I wait?... Let's wait, It seems that the death knight can handle the monsters just fine. If I see that something urgent comes I will use it.' Ainz was about to crush it when he saw that the death knight handled the monsters just fine, so he just let the force in his hand disappear.

After some time it looked like the death knight was a bit overwhelmed with the number of monsters coming out. They couldn't damage him but he could not kill them swiftly either as his swordsman just equaled to a level twenty-five.

Just as the death knight was about to be completely overwhelmed, the super-tier spell activated.

Six pillars of light appeared around him, and from them came six angels.

These angels had lions' heads, with one pair of wings stretched out and another pair folded around them, for a total of four wings. They each wore suits of shining armor and held shields with eye patterns in one hand and lances of fire in the other.

These angels were around level 80, and they were called Cherubim Gatekeepers.

Ainz did not know much about mythology, so he did not know why they were called gatekeepers, but he did know about their strengths as monsters.

The Cherubim Gatekeepers were quite well-suited to the task of being a tank, and their considerable sensory abilities also made them very good sentries.

This spell he just activated was the super-tier spell [Pantheon], which was similar to the 10th tier spell [Armageddon – Good] and the super-tier spell [Nibelung I], and which was diametrically opposed to the super-tier spell [Pandemonium].

"Protect me while I explore the floors.

"Understood, o, summoner." the six angels answered simultaneously

With these, he didn't have to worry too much about enemies attacking him, and he could calmly explore the dungeon. He also did this because when albedo hears that he explored the lower floors without an escort she would rebuke him for a while. So now there was no reason to rebuke him, he had six level 80 angels.

Ainz saw that his death knight was already overwhelmed by some black rhinoceros and some large spiders that were red and purple. He cast [Fireball] and 8 fireballs that were 2 meters in diameter appeared. After he leveled up his MP and magic attack went up drastically so the result was this.

The fireballs rained down on the monsters and his death knight. The monsters were burned to ashes while the death knight took some damage. It was still intact showing its prowess as a level 45 shielder.

With this Ainz completed another experiment. He didn't care much about the death knight taking damage as it could be replaced.

He went where all the magic stones dropped and began to pick them up. He saw that if he went like this on the other floors his exploration was going to be delayed just by picking the drops. Although picking the drops was certainly fun for him, but after a while, it got boring.

'Should I summon another summon to help me? What should I summon this time?'

"[Triplet magic: Summon middle-tier-Jack the Ripper]"

Three new figures appeared out of nowhere. They had green upward hair that looked like the patterns of a flame and had long angular elf-like ears. Their faces were covered completely by a white smiling mask with yellow eye holes in the shape of four-pointed stars. They were dressed in a black overcoat with purple outlines and white buttons. The tip of their fingers were all covered with sharp blades.

They had a very tiny body frame that seemed to lack muscles, but that was weakness was covered by its lightning speed, agile movements, and deadly precision attacks. They were beings so fearsome that when they slashed with all their speed they could leave slight after images.

But Ainz didn't care about all that, he summoned them mainly because of their speed and agility so he thought they were going to be great magic stones pickers.

"Here have this, you will pick every dropped item the monsters leave behind." Ainz got three infinite haversacks of his inventory and gave them to the undead.

"..." they just nodded in understanding as they grabbed the magic bag.

"Ok, now let's go," Ainz said as he began to enter the entrance of the floor.

Once inside the 51st floor, he saw that the walls, ground, and ceiling were flat. It felt like he was in a well-made and measured structure as when he looked ahead it was the same. Just rectangular-shaped pathway making him feel like he was trapped in a cuboid box.

Going further in, he encountered small corners and crossroads that lead him to dead ends or rooms full of monsters that ended up being obliterated in an instant.

All that attacked him were the same type of monsters for a while. It was until he came to this room that it looked like he encountered something a little bit good.

It was a dragon, It seemed to be guarding something.

ROOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAARRRR

The dragon roared so loudly that the room began to shake. It opened its gigantic mouth and fire began to appear.

Bang,

When the fire was shot it made a loud bang noise, it was so quick that a normal person would not be able to see it moving.

BBBBBBBBBBBBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMM

A large explosion was made in front of Ainz as he saw the angel intercept the fast-coming projectile.

The explosion created a big shockwave that destroyed part of the room.

As the dragon was flying above them the angel threw his fire lance directed to it. The lance made shockwaves as it moved forward, the lance pierced and went through the dragon's body. It was so fast that the dragon couldn't even react to it... No, it was so fast that the dragon didn't even know when it died.

The fire lance didn't stop there as it began to pierce the ceiling above them, it went through the floor by floor. And as the lance was a magic item summoned with the angel it was a high-level item, so its heat was so hot that it could melt even adamantite in an instant. The holes it made while traversing the floors were crystallized by the extremely hot temperature.

All this happened in a flash that Ainz couldn't even command the Angel to stop. He was a bit mad that the angel killed the dragon he wanted to experiment on but he remembered his orders. " You will protect me" he had said so the Angel wasn't in the wrong as killing the enemy counted as protecting. The only thing that confused him was why had the Angel counter-attacked now of all times. When they were killing the spiders and rhinoceros they just protected him, they made no signs to kill any monster even when large groups were summoned.

What he saw next left him in a shock even though his racial ability made him recover his composure immediately.

The Cherubims lion faces contorted, as they pointed at the one who threw his lance and they let out a weird sound as one would do when laughing.

Grahahaha, It definitely was a laughing sound but their voices sounded rough.

At first, Ainz didn't get why they were pointing and laughing at the angel who killed the dragon. But after a while had passed he saw that the angel hadn't summoned back his weapon. Summons like them interestingly could magically recall weapons thrown at a target, and make it reappear in their hands.

It was then that Ainz understood that something was wrong.

"What happened?" Ainz asked as he wanted an explanation as to why the angel couldn't summon his weapon back.

"O, summoner, It seems that my foolish little brother has lost his connection with his lance. This is the first time something like that has happened. You see when we are summoned we have a weapon that we bring with us. The weapon is like a part of our body so nobody has ever lost their weapons as they instinctually know where it is. So this is the first time for us, it seems that he lost his connection with the weapon completely so he can't recover it." An angel at the back responded

"O, summoner, It isn't like. It seems that something severed my connection with the weapon as it went through the floors." The one that killed the dragon responded as he didn't want to stay with the shame of saying that he lost the connection with his weapon. His brother said lost his connection but it sounded that because of his clumsiness he lost something that should never be lost and it wasn't like that because his connection was severed which was extremely different.

'Hmm, his connection with his weapon was severed. From what I know the weapons which are summoned along them have an absolute connection to them. Nothing in short of a [world Item] could cut their connection with the weapon. But using a [world item] to severe a connection for an insignificant weapon... no one's crazy enough to do that or are they?' Ainz thought as he compared the situation. He knew that connections with weapons like that could be compared to his mind immunity... so their connection could be called weapon loss immunity? but something had bypassed that immunity.

Was he right about his assumption? The one where he thought that this dungeon contained a [World enemy]. That was the only other thing that could bypass immunities, So it was likely that this dungeon contained a world enemy.

What he didn't take into account was that the Dungeon itself could be a [world enemy].

"Protect me!" Was the only command that Ainz gave as he Quickly cast [Gate] and teleported out of here.

He quickly teleported inside Nazzarick as he knew that if a [world enemy] was present in the dungeon then he could be in a dire situation.

Since when did he make decisions recklessly? Since coming to this world he had made some questionable decisions. what was with him, Did he think that no one could hurt him because he was already extremely powerful? Since when had his power gone to his head? Did he think he was an all-powerful just because he had conquered a world with his subordinates? Was it because... or was it because... Or was it this... Or...

A lot of why's, what's, or's, and when's was going inside his head as he thought. He began to feel an extreme amount of shame and anger directed at himself. It all ended when his emotion inhibitor calmed him down.

He still had a lingering amount of emotion in him. So he decided it was time to reflect on his action.

And it was the best decision he could make because right now chaos was happening again on the surface. From an outbreak that was happening to a flaming weapon that fell from the heavens and it was all because of the actions, he had taken.

-------------

He was transported to a floor that was surrounded by white. From the ground and walls to the ceiling, It was all white. His creator told him to collect more magic stones, he was happy that his creator let him stay in this world. His master gave him some of the crystal he collected so he could eat, After eating a lot of it he was satisfied and learned that he could stay forever unless killed.

As soon as he entered the floor he saw that a large number of monsters were fighting. So he joined them and began the bloodbath. He had the advantage over other creatures as no one could sense him, so he could calmly kill any number of creatures without being afraid of being found out. Every time he killed a monster another one came out from the walls.

The manner he killed monsters ranged from taking out the magic stones from the monsters directly, breaking their heads off, severing their limbs, smashing them to pieces, cutting them open with his claws, and kicking them as balls.

He was so entranced killing monsters and collecting their crystals and items they dropped that he didn't see that the monsters he killed didn't replenish.

After a while of killing monsters, he saw that there weren't as many as they were first, so he finished killing all the monsters present and waited. He waited and waited and waited but the monsters never came out of behind the walls.

Were they scared of him? Was his mighty form that terrifying to them? Why didn't they emerge from the walls?

After waiting a while he began to feel rage as no new monster emerge.

His displeasure was growing each second that passed. His irritation, displeasure, annoyance, and wrath came to the point of exploding.

In his wrath he began to break the walls, He was determined to take out the ******** monsters that were scared and were hiding behind the wall.

With each punch he made a big piece of wall came down.

He jumped from place to place destroying the walls, floor, and ceiling with every action he made. But his wrath was still growing more and more so he began to use his special skills to move faster and destroy everything he saw. He would only calm down until a monster came out or when he finds the monsters hiding behind the wall.

After a while of destroying the room, Finally, a monster emerged.

The shadow demon was incensed when he saw that it was only one monster that came out.

Were they thinking that one monster could handle him? It hurt the little pride he had.

The monster that came out was what some people called the "apostle of murder". It had two arms and two legs. The long, thin arms were bizarrely out of proportion with the body. The legs, too, were long and thin but bent backward at the joints. Oddly, the bony, nearly fleshless form was covered in a shell that at first glance looked like a coat of armor. It glinted with a strange dark-purplish-blue light. From the base of its back extended a hard four-meter-long tail.

Its bumpy head was identical to a beast's skull, except for the crimson light that glowed within the two empty eye sockets.

Bam,

huh,?

The shadow demon was in the air before he knew it. It seemed that he had underestimated the creature. It was fast, extremely fast.

psst, A thick black fluid came out from where he had been kicked, it was his blood.

Crack

The shadow demon felt his body smash into the wall he was breaking seconds ago.

He saw that the creature coming to him again so he jumped backward in retreat. And as soon as it came close by he used his shadow warp and teleported inside the creature's shadow. He made a slashing motion as he was right below the juggernaut. When his claws connected with the juggernaut's body a screeching sound was made but he successfully injured the creature.

He felt a heavy pain in his head, It looks like his foe also damaged him in the process. He didn't know how the creature did it but he knew he would lose if the fight continued like this. His shadow warp skill was almost used, he didn't have many uses. At most he could use it two to three times. He regretted using it just to break the walls faster. Now that he was in this predicament he didn't have many skills left.

He quickly moved from where he landed and used shadow warp again just to appear behind the monster. He kicked it on what looked to be its spine. As he sent the creature flying to the air without being able to counterattack, he wrapped again and grabbed the creature's tail. He brought the creature to the floor, slamming it down to the ground where a large crater was made. After grabbing the tail again he lifted the juggernaut up and began smashing him left to right. The crater got bigger and bigger every time the juggernaut was slammed to the ground.

He didn't even see when the juggernaut became responsive again so he was kicked and his body flew into the air breaking the ceiling above.

A large number of huge rocks came smashing down onto both of them but with his quick reaction, the shadow demon used his skill, one last time and wrapped in a place where there wasn't too much debris.

The shadow demon saw the juggernaut being buried under the debris so he thought he was already dead. Still, he was cautious as he didn't want to suffer another surprise attack.

After waiting a while he saw that the juggernaut didn't come out so he was sure it was already dead.

He stood up and was about to leave, with a mission that ended up in failure as he couldn't fill the third magic bag, when he found himself flying at high speeds again.

It seemed that the juggernaut was waiting for him to lower his guard and as soon as he did he was attacked.

Large amounts of black fluid came out from his missing left arm that was just taken away.

He had no skills left so it came to a fight of speed where the opponent who had the upper hand was a bit faster than him.

He began to retreat as he didn't want to fail the mission given by his creator.

The opponent was already in a critical condition as parts of its body were missing, but it still kept going with the intention of killing him. He would lose he knew it, the opponent before him was faster, so he couldn't even escape.

He kept retreating until the juggernaut caught him and punched him with lightning speed. The shadow demon docked and punched him right where he thought that the creature had a magic stone. The juggernaut was sent flying with that punch but the shadow demon fell down facing the broken ceiling.

Huh,

In the very instant he punched the juggernaut, the creature kicked the legs of the shadow demon, tearing one off and leaving the other one all broken in an impossible angle.

After some time had passed the juggernaut stood up and moved towards him. As the juggernaut moved toward him, he knew that it was already certain death

Right now he was afraid... In despair was the word defining his mental state. He wasn't afraid of dying, he was afraid because this would be his last mission and it would end in failure. He imagined his creator's disappointed face when he knows of his death. Disappointment because he couldn't even finish his mission.

Also, he would end up dying and leaving all the crystals he had gathered here.

If a lucky human came by and found the magic bags then he would be the one stolen. He didn't want that, He was the only one supposed to steal from others, not the other way around.

The shadow demon became determined to hide the infinity haversack before he died.

He crawled to reach a destination where he could hide it.

...

The juggernaut saw how desperate his prey was trying to escape he enjoyed seeing the one who had left him all beaten up suffer, so he began to take his time to mentally torture his opponent.

His steps became slow as he saw that the creature was crawling to escape.

Soon he began to feel a searing heat approaching him.

Huh,

...

It seemed that the juggernaut became stupid as he began to walk slowly as if wanting him to leave.

He wondered why the juggernaut did it, But it didn't matter as he was getting more time to hide his precious collections.

He then saw that the juggernaut jumped wanting to leave the place he was. He assumed that now he was done, He would finally be killed without being given the moment to hide the infinity haversack.

So he closed his eyes and waited

.

..

...

...

He opened his eyes again as he didn't feel an attack. immediately he felt a searing heat pass through this floor and saw a bolt of fire passing and tearing apart the creature's body.

He was saved, He was really saved just now. Now that he was alive he would not be stolen so he felt happy at being alive. He thanked the flame that saved him as he stayed there a while.

Now he was just hoping those ***** monsters don't come out now that he was injured. Or else he would die of anger.

--------

Orario

Some adventurers began to feel something wrong was gonna happen at the moment.

And their instincts were on spot another huge amount of power came out from the dungeon and created another outbreak.

Although this outbreak wasn't as serious as the first one it was still an outbreak.

People from different Familia's began to merge in groups as they went inside the dungeon to control the monsters.

A lot of them were well prepared as this morning they went into a shopping frenzy.

"So the People who bought potions were right. The higher-ranked Familia's knew there was going to be another outbreak, that's why they were preparing themselves. Good thing I bought this potion today morning."

"Yeah, lucky us who could get at least one potion at the blue pharmacy. It is said that getting potions now will be more difficult. As few people will be entering the deeper floors to get the materials necessary. I think someone was saying that the bigger Familia's will be growing more as they will have the monopoly of potions."

"Only a few people will want to risk themselves to get materials. I heard some other adventurers that we will still be able to get potions but it would be from the lowest quality. as that would be made from the materials commonly found in the upper floors."

After entering the dungeon and suppressing the monsters some adventurers died but most of the adventurers lived through, This time. They were all exhausted and wanted to rest. Some began to go to their house while others went to the crowded guild to exchange the magic stones they got.

Then it happened... A phenomenon so big that it left whole Orario shocked

The cloudy sky was torn apart ... More specifically a hole was made through the cloudy sky.

What made it was a projectile that came at high speeds and it let out a blinding eye light.

Humans, Elves, Pallums, Dwarves, Gods, All kinds of people were left in deep shock and fear as they felt the incoming projectile.

The projectiles' power felt so immense that even though it was very far from the city they still felt it.

They couldn't see very well what type of projectile it was but people speculated it was a magic attack. They thought that if the projectile hit the city then the whole city would be blown away.

Every passing second it was closer and closer to the city. People felt time slowed to a crawl as the projectile came towards them.

Despair, insanity, anxiety, frustration, and resentment came from all Orario.

They could barely coupe with anxiety that the dungeon outbreaks caused, and now they were in the face of death and destruction. Worse there was no way to avoid it or prevent it. They did their best to continue living their life normally even after the first outbreak and now even if they did their best it mattered naught as the projectile neared the city.

Gods were frustrated, angry and felt a huge resentment to what was happening. All their hard work from the thousands of years they were in the lower world was also for naught as it was going to be destroyed within seconds.

After seeing the projectile near they withdrew their hopeful heart that they could live. They were now resigned to their fate that all of them would die. All across Orario people closed their eyes and waited for their doom.

seconds later they felt a huge shockwave and the searing heat of the projectile passing through all Orario.

So they waited for their incoming doom.
