Chapter 1: Aims to Become Ordinary
8 o’clock in the morning.
Akira Fuse opened his eyes punctually, got out of bed, and dressed with a fluid sequence of movements.
“Today, I’ll work hard to become an ordinary person.”
He casually pulled open the curtains, leaned against the window, and admired the cherry blossoms dancing outside, determined.
He, Akira, is a man who holds a superpower ability.
A superpower wielder with limitless abilities.
He could use all kinds of superpowers, such as time stop, hypnosis, X-ray vision, invisibility, and more, as long as they fell within the realm of superpowers.
The downside was that he could only use each power once a day.
But that didn’t make him any less invincible in the world.
As long as he wished, he could easily destroy the entire Earth with just one day’s effort.
But why would he do that?
It brought him no benefit whatsoever.
After a simple breakfast, Akira left his home and headed towards the convenience store.
It was the end of March now, and though the cold wind was a bit chilly, it wouldn’t hinder his plans for the day.
As an ordinary person, there was nothing to eat at home, so the obvious thing to do was to go to the convenience store and stock up on groceries.
So, his task for today was to go shopping at the convenience store just like an ordinary person and then return home safely.
It was a daunting task!
Soon, Akira arrived at the convenience store’s entrance. Suppressing his excitement, he walked inside.
This was his first time shopping at a convenience store, so he couldn’t help but feel a bit nervous.
When he was six years old, he accidentally revealed his superpowers in front of people, and then government agents came knocking on his door, leading to his capture and detention.
Back then, he was still young and didn’t understand the agents’ motives, so he chose to cooperate with them and participate in some experiments.
Perhaps due to the extreme danger posed by his superpowers and his immature mindset, his activities were restricted to a regular room, and he could only occasionally go out.
The advantage was that no matter what he needed, all he had to do was ask, and someone would bring it to him.
He didn’t have to worry about anything.
This was how he had lived for ten years.
During this time, the agents also imparted some knowledge and common sense to him.
For example: not harming national security, not abusing superpowers, not causing harm to innocents, and hoping that he could lend a hand when the fate of the country was at stake, and so on…
Of course, they also tried to mind control him via various mean.
Unfortunately, they failed.
The reason for their failure was simple: he was a superpower wielder with limitless abilities.
They paid a price for their efforts.
That price was the destruction of all the research they had done in those ten years, and the erasure of the memories of anyone who knew about his existence.
In other words, all their efforts over the past ten years had been in vain.
Thanks to their education, Akira had refrained from causing harm to them.
He had already grown accustomed to that way of life, but they just had to push their luck.
Greed knows no bounds, like a snake trying to swallow an elephant.
As memories of the past flashed through his mind, Akira’s expression remained unchanged.
It was precisely because of those ten years of confinement that he could now appreciate how beautiful life outside was.
And that was why he had decided to become an ordinary person and blend into society.
His superpowers only made him stand out, but he just wanted to be plain and ordinary.
Entering the convenience store, Akira made a conscious effort to appear like someone who frequented the place.
People of his age group would surely visit convenience stores regularly, and he couldn’t afford to be an exception.
As for how to act like a regular customer at a convenience store, he had already researched it thoroughly on the internet.
One had to admit, the internet was a convenient tool.
It allowed someone like him, who knew nothing, to easily pretend to be an ordinary person.
The first step was to find the items he wanted to buy.
Today, he aimed to stock up on food, so buying some instant noodles, bread, and similar items would suffice.
Beforehand, he had also checked if people of his age group knew how to cook. The majority did not.
To fit in with most people, he had set himself as someone who couldn’t cook either.
Since he couldn’t cook, there was no need to consider ingredients. Just purchasing instant noodles, bread, and other similar food items would do.
After a bit of effort, Akira, holding a shopping basket, found his way to the snack section.
Looking at the array of snacks on the shelves, Akira seemed a bit perplexed.
While at home, he had forgotten what brands of snacks most people would buy, and this put him in a precarious situation.
If he chose snacks that only a few people would buy, he would no longer belong to the majority.
For Akira, who was striving to become an ordinary person, this was undoubtedly a fatal blow.
But now it was too late to search again, as no ordinary person would stand in front of the snack shelves and search for what others would buy.
In this situation, which might be insurmountable for an ordinary person, it was easily resolved for a superpower wielder.
He only needed to buy the same snacks as the person next to him.
In this way, even if they appeared different, they would both seem different together.
And when two people seemed different, it wasn’t being different; it was being normal.
Akira couldn’t help but feel fortunate for his cleverness.
So, he fixed his gaze on the lady with long pink hair in professional attire not far from him.
He remembered her name was Kirisu Mafuya, his neighbor.
He casually glanced over at her as if he weren’t paying much attention, and in an instant, he remembered everything she had already put in her shopping basket.
Now he just needed to buy the exact same items he had memorized.
The first one was cup noodle.
Once he identified his target, Akira reached out his hand without hesitation.
At the moment his hand touched the shelf, he felt something inside him break.
“Oh no.”
In an instant, Akira realized what had happened.
His superpowers had gone out of control!
Due to the sheer number of his superpowers, some of them could go out of control if left unused for a long time.
And his out-of-control superpower would not be restricted by the once-a-day usage rule; he could use it infinitely within a day.
To illustrate, if his out-of-control power was teleportation, he could use teleportation endlessly within a day.
But clearly, the power he had lost control of now was not teleportation.
It was immense strength.
This meant that his strength had multiplied countless times at this moment.
In the moment of increased strength, even though he had quickly retracted 99.9% of his strength, the force was still too much for a small shelf to bear.
The area he touched visibly bent downward, and the items on the shelf inevitably fell.
[Time Stop]
At this moment, Akira activated his superpower called “Time Stop.”
In the state of time stop, snacks that should have been in free fall defied gravity and hung suspended in mid-air.
“How troublesome.”
He needed some time to consider how to cover up this superpower mishap.
