The Omnipurpose Restaurant in Dungeon City

Chapter 20 - The First Group of Customers and Gukbap

A few hours before Jin heard the news about the group reservation.
Kyle, a novice adventurer, was coming down to the first floor of the Eclipse Inn for breakfast.
“Good morning, Mr. Berger!”
“Is that you, Kyle? You’re up early again today.”
The one who greeted Kyle as he came down politely was Berger, a man with an eye patch over one eye.
Berger was the owner of this inn, Eclipse, which Jin had recommended to Kyle.
Except for the eye patch, he looked like a mild-mannered middle-aged man, but he was actually a former high-ranking adventurer.
“I can’t slack off when you’re helping me, Mr. Berger.”
“Even so, there aren’t many as diligent as you.”
Berger, who retired from being an adventurer and opened an inn, often helped or taught novice adventurers as a pastime.
‘I had a really tough time when I was a novice adventurer too, to the point where I wished someone had helped me.
I’m just doing this because it reminds me of those times.’
That was always Berger’s answer when someone asked why he bothered doing such things.
Of course, Kyle, who had just become an adventurer, was also receiving Berger’s help.
(In fact, Jin had sent him to Eclipse with this in mind.)
Berger had taken a liking to Kyle, who was putting in incomparably more effort than others.
‘He seems to have quite a bit of talent too.’
Although Kyle himself didn’t seem to realize it, Berger, with his background as a high-ranking adventurer, could see it.
It was clear that Kyle had at least equal, if not greater, talent than Berger himself.
‘He might even rise higher and faster than I did.’
While Berger himself had struggled a lot and wandered without anyone to help him, he could help Kyle.
Anyway, how could he not be fond of such a talented boy who was diligent and had good character?
“Well then, let’s start with breakfast.”
Just as he was about to go in to prepare breakfast before helping Kyle with his training today.
“Is Berger here?!”
Someone from outside started running towards the entrance, calling out loudly for Berger.
“Hm? This voice… is it Gernika?”
“That’s right! Have you been well, Berger?”
Thud-
The person who rushed into the first floor of the Eclipse Inn with heavy footsteps was a woman with quite a large build.
Seeing this woman, Berger sighed softly and said,
“Didn’t I tell you not to run in when entering the inn? You’re kicking up dust for the other guests.”
“Ah! Right, you did! Haha, sorry sorry. I’ll really be careful next time.”
The woman, who was scolded by Berger for the dust she kicked up while entering, then apologized to Kyle who was standing nearby.
“Sorry to you too! I forgot for a moment that I shouldn’t run.”
“Ah, no, it’s fine. Not much dust was kicked up anyway.”
While accepting the apology in bewilderment, Kyle carefully asked Berger,
“Is she an Orc?”
“Yes, that’s right. Gernika is a female Orc.
Oh, you know she’s different from the Orcs that come out of dungeons, right?”
“Yes, I was taught from a young age not to confuse them and insult them.”
As Kyle and Berger discussed, Gernika’s race, the Orcs, were different from the Orcs that come out of dungeons.
The Orcs from dungeons were monsters.
Gernika’s race of Orcs were recognized as official citizens, acknowledged as a different species.
The Orc monsters that can be seen in dungeons had green skin with fat bodies, and faces that looked like ugly pigs.
In contrast, other-species Orcs like Gernika had brown skin with toned, muscular bodies, and faces that weren’t much different from humans, although they had a wild charm and tusks.
The difference in intelligence goes without saying.
While the Orc race is boisterous and macho, the fact that they’re recognized as a different species means they have that level of intelligence.
Because the differences were so clear, one had to be careful as making a wrong comparison could be insulting.
“Since we’ve met, let me introduce you. This is Gernika. As you can see, she’s an Orc.
Despite how she looks, she’s an active B-rank adventurer, so it won’t hurt to know her.”
“Hello, Ms. Gernika. My name is Kyle.”
“Oh, seeing that Berger is taking care of you, you must be a newbie?”
“Yeah, he’s only been here for a few days. But he’s showing quite a bit of promise. You should help him out too if you get the chance.”
“If Berger says so, it must be true. Kyle, was it? Nice to meet you! Let’s greet each other when we pass by!”
Boom boom-!
Gernika grabbed Kyle’s hand with high tension and shook it vigorously.
Seeing Kyle flustered by the intense greeting, Berger asked Gernika,
“So what brings you here like this?”
“Oh right! Berger, is it possible to have a group meal here?”
“A group meal? Suddenly?”
“Yeah! You know about the kids I have under me, right?”
“You mean those followers from your tribe that you said you were helping?”
“They’re not followers, they’re my little siblings!”
“From what I’ve seen, it’s all the same. But why them?”
The gist of Gernika’s explanation was this:
“So your followers… I mean, your siblings need to find a new restaurant because the one they ate at every day closed down?”
“That’s right!”
“And because they’re Orcs who eat a lot, they need a filling meal with large portions, but at a reasonable price?”
“Exactly! And it would be even better if there’s meat in it!”
“I’m sorry, but that won’t be possible here.”
“Why not?!”
“Think about the conditions you mentioned. How could that be possible?”
Berger replied incredulously.
A filling meal with large portions by Orc standards, at a reasonable price? And with meat on top of that?
It was beyond having no conscience.
Honestly, if it wasn’t Gernika, whom he knew, he would have chased her out immediately.
“Is that so… No wonder other restaurants wouldn’t accept us either.”
“I’m more surprised that the restaurant you used to go to met those conditions.”
“Ah, that was because the owner of that place was from the same tribe as us. He gave us cheap prices to take care of the younger ones, like I do.”
But now that he’s closing the business to return to the tribe, the siblings’ meals have been left hanging.
“Um… couldn’t you help out like how you help novice adventurers, Berger?”
“I wouldn’t mind doing it once or twice, but it’s difficult to provide such meals every day. There’s the issue of fairness with other guests, and it’s not good for them either.”
Berger thought that if you help too much, their desire and drive for growth would disappear.
This was also why Berger set limits and didn’t help novice adventurers excessively, even when he did help them.
“Ugh, your words aren’t wrong, but… what should I do about feeding our kids right now?”
“What else can we do? You’ll have to give up on something. If you give up on taste, at least you can feed them large, filling portions.”
“I want to feed them as well as possible though.
But as you said, continuously feeding them with my own money wouldn’t be good for them either.”
Berger looked pitifully at Gernika who was holding her head in worry, but he didn’t have any good solutions either.
‘As adventurers, this too is a trial they must endure. They can only grow quickly and overcome it.’
He was thinking that inwardly when.
“Um, I know of a restaurant that might be able to do it.”
Kyle suddenly interjected.
“Kyle, what are you saying? There’s such a restaurant?”
“Yes, I’ve only been there once by chance, but it’s an incredibly unique place. It might be possible there.”
Of course, the place Kyle had in mind was Jin’s Omnipurpose Restaurant.
That mysterious restaurant that sells delicious food that could be considered heavenly cuisine at disproportionately cheap prices.
‘Wouldn’t it be able to solve Gernika’s worries too?’
This thought became even stronger after hearing about Seria, who had recently visited based on his recommendation.
“Kyle, was it? Is that true? Can it really solve the meal problem for my siblings?”
“Well, maybe.”
Gernika immediately pounced on this news that was like a ray of light in the darkness.
“Honestly, it’s hard to believe such a restaurant exists. Are you sure you weren’t scammed?”
Berger was worried that Kyle, an orphaned novice adventurer, might have been scammed.
“Then shall we go to the guild? I need to receive a quest from the guild anyway, and there’s a receptionist named Seria who has been to that restaurant, so we might be able to get a more detailed explanation.”
“Good! Let’s do that!”
And so, after morning training, Kyle and Gernika went to the guild together to meet Seria.

“…That’s how it happened. So I came to ask the owner if it’s possible while having lunch.”
After Seria’s explanation, Jin felt a moment of intense emotion.
‘Kyle, is it you again?’
After Seria, now he’s bringing in group customers.
And from the explanation, they’re even long-term contract customers!
Considering how much restaurants bend over backwards to get long-term group customers.
Kyle, who brought this with just a word, was truly amazing.
Although Jin didn’t particularly intend to make money by accepting group customers, as a restaurant owner, it was always a pleasant thing to have more customers.
The more customers increase, the more the reputation as a good restaurant spreads.
‘Of course, there are some conditions.’

But that’s difficult by the standards of ordinary restaurants in the dungeon city.
For Jin and the Omnipurpose Restaurant, these weren’t such difficult conditions.
“So, owner, will it be possible?”
Therefore, when Seria asked if it was possible, he could answer confidently.
“Of course. Tell them not to worry and come.”
“Alright! Then, Gernika and her group will come to check and have dinner tonight, so please prepare.”
“But what kind of food are you planning to make?”
As the conversation ended, Miley, who had been listening quietly until then, asked.
She was curious about what kind of food Jin would make this time, after continuously shocking them.
“Hmm, since it needs to be large in quantity, filling, and reasonably priced…”
It needs to be large in quantity and filling enough to satisfy Orcs, reasonably priced, and also delicious to uphold the restaurant’s honor.
‘In that case…’
There was only one choice.
“I’ll have to make gukbap.”
It was time for gukbap, the epitome of heartiness and cost-effectiveness, to make its appearance.
