Episode 1
Episode 1
So, Verona never planned for this to happen at all.
‘Oh, my God!’
Verona froze as she looked at the man’s face sleeping soundly in front of her.
‘This is insane. That I’m still doing this, it’s definitely insane.’
According to the original plan, she should have escaped before the sunrise. Was it a mistake to drink alcohol yesterday to forget the man’s face?
‘I let my guard down.’
Verona vigorously shook her pale face and slowly retreated. She lifted her right leg, which was draped over his body, very slowly, feeling the muscles inside her thigh ache subtly. A slight pain distorted her face.
‘I knew it would come to this.’
Somehow, it seemed like the alcohol didn’t erase the man’s face but rather etched it more vividly. No, she’d be lucky if it were just the face.
She bit her lip as memories from last night slowly surfaced in her mind.
— It’s too hot. Can you undo this a bit?
— Are you serious?
— Or you can just take it off entirely.
Feeling pleasantly drunk, Verona, filled with a newfound confidence, boldly handed the man a piece of her clothing. Specifically, the ribbon attached to her chest.
— I don’t know how to put on women’s clothes. Once I take it off, I have no intention of putting it back on.
The man had warned sternly, gripping the ribbon tightly. Verona felt her lips dry at the sight of the blue veins bulging on his hand.
— That’s fine. Do whatever you’re good at.
Trying to hide her nervousness and appear relaxed, Verona accepted his words. The man was smiling dangerously. She remembered almost extending her tongue subconsciously to lick her lips, only to be caught by his grip.
— Oh…!
— You don’t know how to lead a kiss.
When their tongues stubbornly intertwined and their lips clumsily collided, it was already after the man had torn off the ribbon and thrown it away.
Putting his hands into the opening of her dress, the man pushed Verona’s shoulders onto the bed.
— But it doesn’t matter. I know how to do that.
With swift movements, the man stripped off everything Verona had carefully put on.
Verona shivered at the touch of the man’s hand on her skin. Any lingering guilt she had in her heart seemed to have disappeared without a trace.
— I’m more confident in other things.
Interlocking their fingers, the man gave Verona a series of small kisses. Overwhelmed by his intense strength, Verona couldn’t gather her thoughts.
She had decided to seduce him to get what she wanted for the night, but at some point, the man started pushing Verona.
— Oh, this is… This is too much.
— Look at me.
Perhaps due to the physiological tears blurring her vision, it felt like flames were flickering in his green eyes. The man licked Verona’s eyes and whispered.
— Would you like me to stop? Really?
— No.
Verona instinctively pleaded without even realizing what she was saying.
— Don’t stop.
The man’s red lips curved satisfactorily.
The face of the man from last night, as Verona remembers it, was the end of it. After that, she was either closing her eyes…r was it a blur…
It was even stranger that her body was perfectly fine. It was better than she had thought and more difficult, so perhaps it was only natural.
Regardless, the important fact was that the night was over. Verona cautiously moved, blaming herself for last night’s mistake.
‘Please, please don’t wake up.’
Fortunately, the earnest wish seemed to have reached the gods, and she succeeded in pulling her body out to the end of the bed.
Nevertheless, she achieved her goal. All she had to do now was safely return home.
Verona clumsily descended under the bed and picked up the clothes scattered on the floor. Fortunately, he didn’t wake up, just tossing and turning a little.
“Mmm…”
As she grabbed the shoes with trembling hands, she glanced at the man who was sleeping soundly, unaware of the world.
‘… He’s quite handsome.’
Despite his cold demeanor, considering his broad shoulders and tall stature, he had a rather fitting aura. The man who had dominated her all night seemed to be a handsome man who made her feel somewhat regretful about parting ways after just one day.
‘But it’s better not to know who he is.’
Verona stared silently at the man’s sleeping face.
Even his eyes, hidden behind lush black eyelashes, seemed like beautiful emeralds…
‘Huh? Emeralds?!’
Suddenly, the green iris hidden beneath tousled black hair was staring directly at Verona.
“Eek!”
Verona was momentarily startled and fell back, despite the soft mattress, she couldn’t prevent a tingling pain. Grimacing with pain shooting up her spine, Verona frowned.
“What are you doing?”
The slightly hoarse voice, though pleasant to hear, sent shivers down her spine.
Quickly, she kicked the clothes and shoes under the bed and awkwardly laughed.
“Uh, um… I-I’m going to… take a shower…”
“Take a shower?”
The man blinked slowly, trying to get up. Verona waved her hands.
“You don’t have to get up! Is the bathroom over there?”
“Yeah.”
However, regardless of her refusal, the man got off the bed and lifted Verona up. She tried not to look at his lower body and desperately tried to distance herself from him. But the man didn’t budge.
“Ow! What are you doing?”
“You said you’re wanted to take a shower.”
Using the same posture as when he threw her onto the bed last night, the man lifted her and carried her to the attached bathroom.
Verona swallowed her tears as she looked at the green dress hem sticking out from under the bed.
‘I can’t believe I spent all that money for that!’
But she couldn’t ask him to pick it up. Verona hugged him as she sadly watched the dress and shoes slowly moving away from her.
The man entered the bathroom without hesitation.
“Is it a bit chilly? This water is drawn from the sea outside, so if you want warm water, you’ll have to call a servant.”
The man lowered Verona into the marble bathtub and opened a crystal-clear faucet to fill it with water.
The faint sound of seagulls chirping through the slightly open window brought Verona back to her senses. Soon, she felt the refreshing seawater reaching her legs.
“No, it’s fine.”
“Good. Then shall I…”
As the man seemed about to step into the bathtub, Verona waved her hands at him.
This time, she accidentally looked at his lower body. Unlike Verona, he didn’t seem to be exhausted at all. Rather, he seemed more energetic than last night.
While he seemed indifferent, Verona was flustered and quickly looked away.
“No! It’s fine! Really!”
She pushed away the man’s hand, which was stroking her golden hair.
“Will you let me wash myself? Please leave.”
“Hmm.”
The man made a disappointed expression and stepped back. As Verona saw his slim abdomen with the pieces of muscles revealed under his tight chest, she tightly closed her eyes. It was too close for comfort. If she had been a little late, it could have been dangerous…
“Are you embarrassed?”
The man chuckled as if finding her cute. Verona’s face turned as red as a tomato.
“You’ve already seen everything, so what?”
“Please leave now!”
The cool water reached up to her thighs. There was no more time to waste. She had to drive that man away.
“Alright, alright.”
But it seemed the man had no intention of just leaving. As Verona felt something warm and moist touch her forehead and then withdraw, she sensed him leaving the bathroom and closing the door.
Verona quickly got up from the bathtub. The transparent emerald-colored water had already reached her belly, and bubbles were bubbling around her legs where the water had touched.
‘I’ve only worn that dress once.’
She wasn’t some fleeing Cinderella!
She didn’t expect to leave her clothes and shoes out after having kept them hidden for so long.
With tears in her eyes, Verona leaned out of the bathroom window. The window, much larger than her body, thankfully opened easily. Perhaps because it was early morning, there was no one passing by.
‘Okay, if I jump there…’
Verona murmured, looking down at the lake below the garden.
The lake, or rather the sea of the North, would surely take her home.
Verona threw herself out of the window.
Splash!
A light sound echoed in the garden, unheard unless one listened carefully.
Under the deep emerald waves, the tail swayed vigorously, reflecting the morning sunlight dazzlingly.
Not long after, the mermaid disappeared without a trace.
And the man, too, didn’t see any of it.
“Are you done washing? It seems like it’s taking too long, so…”
The man stopped speaking before opening the door.
He stared at the empty bathtub overflowing with water. Then, he looked at the wide-open window. It was only then that he realized the lake lay right beneath the window.
“… She dared to escape.”
His deep green eyes flickered like flames, widening as if tearing apart before returning to normal.
The man went back into the bedroom and retrieved the dress and shoes from under the bed. The delicate lace embellishments were torn weakly, revealing traces of last night’s events.
He chuckled incredulously, then bit his lip.
“I didn’t expect her to slip away from me…”
The man casually put on the dress and shoes, then picked up the signet ring he had thrown into the room upon entering.
“From the moment you brazenly provoked me, you couldn’t escape from me.”
He had no intention of letting Verona go after just one night.
