Chapter 11

Inside an unknown courtyard, in the Core Area of Star Falcon Sect.

"Master, I want to enter the Star Blaring Secret Realm. I came to seek your permission." A teenager's voice could be heard from a cultivation room in the courtyard.

"Tianlong, the Star Blaring Secret Realm needs Astral Foundation Realm cultivation just to guarantee a cultivator minimum safety in the first level. You are still in the Meridian Refinement Realm. I understand your enthusiasm, but I can't give permission to you. With your talent, you will become a pillar for the sect in the future, there's no need to risk your safety for opportunities in this secret realm when you haven't grown up." The majestic voice of an old man was heard in the room rejecting the teenagers request.

The teenager stayed in the same place, his calm eyes flashed with determination as he began to speak, "Master, I seek to complete nine refinements of the Medicine Refinement Realm. The sect can spend its resources to allow me to reach this step. However, when a perfect opportunity like this secret realm was opened in front of me at the right time, I don't want to give up on it. I want to complete nine refinements by sacrificing my own energy and blood and seizing opportunities. I want to learn the struggles of the cultivation world while growing up and not when I grow up. The old man sitting on the jade futon was pleased listening to his disciples words. He was satisfied with how his disciple grew up after a set back. However, he was still reluctant to let his favourite disciple enter the newly discovered secret realm without knowing enough information about it.

The teenager felt that his master was pondering on the issue without outright rejecting him. He took the chance and continued to say, "Master, if you are worried about my safety, you can send Senior Sister Bai with me to look after my protection."

The old man was amused listening to his disciples suggestion. He said seriously, "Your senior sister is punished to go into seclusion and contemplate her mistakes for three years. Do you want me to relieve her from her punishment and then give her the opportunity to enter the secret realm?"

The teenager hurriedly answered, "Master just let my Senior Sister follow me and don't let her leave me. With her realm it will be a waste to just follow me in the first level of the secret realm. Entering the secret realm, but not being able to search for opportunities, this will also be a kind of punishment to Senior Sister Bai."

"Ha-ha-ha!" Listening to his disciples suggestion, the old man's laughter erupted in the cultivation room.

Su Yuchen took the mission as suggested by Senior Brother Li and started staying at the mount stable. He got his own room with a private training formation.

The mount stable was larger than he expected it to be. According to what he learnt from the maid, the inner sect and the core areas have an enhanced space formation, these areas appear normal when looked down from the sky, but they were in fact a very large stretched pieces of lands.

The mount stable should have the size of a big town, similar to the size of the Star Falcon Sect when seen from outside. This stable was divided into different territories. There was a plantation with many different types of trees. A wide grassland at the end of the plantation with a large lake in between them.

Beasts of different orders were spread across the mount stable. They were of all types that could be seen in these biomes. 

The climate was also adjusted in the mount stable according to the region and beasts. More than a thousand formations were arranged in the mount stable according to Senior Brother Li.

Su Yuchen realised how limited his knowledge was after experiencing a day in the mount stable.

While they were walking on the path in the plantation, Senior Brother Li started to teach him about some of the basic knowledge of the beasts he needs to take care of; their food, habits, and sleep timings. Su Yuchen carefully listened to what he said and remembered the information.

Suddenly, sounds from heavy footsteps of a beast came from ahead of them on the path. Su Yuchen panicked, then looked at Senior Brother Li and observed he wasn't showing any caution, this made him regain some courage.

Soon, a huge, nearly three metres height green colour lizard was seen running towards them. Su Yuchen instantly lost his newly gained composure when looking at the giant lizard. It's face reminded him of the western dragons, scaring him even more.

The lizard slowed down as it got near to them, with its eyes staring at Su Yuchen. Su Yuchen was frightened and involuntarily took two steps back under its gaze. He only regained composure when the beast stood in front of Senior Brother Li and tried to rub his face with its mouth.

Senior Brother Li rubbed its mouth with his hands and brought out large chunks of meat from his storage space. With a light force from his hand he pushed the mouth of the beast towards the meat. He then said to Su Yuchen, "Beasts like these are dangerous when encountered in the outside world, but here in the mount stable you don't have to worry about them attacking you. These beasts have intelligence comparable to a 9 year old human child and higher order beasts can even have the intelligence of an adult human. They don't attack us, their caretakers."

He looked at the beast which began to munch on the meat and then turned towards Su Yuchen, "However, you need to show your brave side to these beasts. If you show any weakness or fear, they will not take you seriously and might even play tricks on you. You don't want that to happen. If something unexpected happens and you attack them when they play tricks on you, the beasts can severely injure you."

"I will try my best to manage myself in front of them, Senior Brother." Su Yuchen nodded while listening attentively to Senior Brother Li. He was still trying to control his trembling legs.

"Most beasts don't actively interact with human other than their designated caretakers. The beasts I have assigned to you are also easy to take care. They are cubs. This also means, you should be more attentive about them." Senior Brother Li seriously explained to Su Yuchen.

Su Yuchen nodded to him.

They continued to walk deeper into the plantation.

Su Yuchen's days of rough work continued in the mount stable. Fortunately he didn't face many challenges from the beast cubs.

"You didn't train in combat since you entered the sect, did you?", Senior Brother Li asked Su Yuchen in the afternoon one day, when he saw him coming towards him with a storage bag used to store the beast food.

"I didn't have chance to train in it." Su Yuchen said slowly as he remembered the reason for it. He didn't leave his courtyard for two months and avoided crowded places whenever he had to go out, including the Battle Hall.

"Why don't you practice with me? I can teach a beginner like you. I will be practising in a few minutes. You can join me." Senior Brother Li understood his reason and lend him a helping hand.

"Thank you, Senior Brother Li." Su Yuchen immediately agreed to Senior Brother Li's invitation. He was very grateful for his help from the beginning in this sect.

Since that day, Su Yuchen practised and learned under Senior Brother Li's guidance. Senior Brother Li was surprised by the comprehension of Su Yuchen and became serious about teaching him. He no longer saw it as showing favour to a prospective high ranking sect disciple. He wanted to lend his hand in moulding Su Yuchen's future.

One day, while they were nearing the end of their practise session, Senior Brother Li stopped the training in the middle and took Su Yuchen to the counter.

"Who are they, Senior Brother Li? Are their status too high?" Su Yuchen asked Senior Brother Li curiously while wiping the sweat on his head with a cloth. He heard that a disciple came to purchase a mount from them. During this period there were a lot of disciples buying mounts, so there were many disciples stationed at the counter. Only a high ranking person should make Senior Brother Li to appear at the counter.

"They are the disciples of the Third Elder." Senior Brother Li smirked at him. "I am letting you meet them early. Try to be good with them and earn their favour, maybe this will ease your life in the sect."

Su Yuchen's face became awkward when he saw his smirk, but he still said, "Thank you, Senior Brother. I will try to be well mannered in front of them."

When they arrived at the counter, the disciples there informed them that the third elder's disciples were taken to sit in the guest's room.

Chapter 12

The counter was already luxurious according to Su Yuchen, but the guest room could only be beaten by the Main Hall in terms of how rich it looked.

There were two people were sitting in the guest room sipping tea. The smell from the teapot gave a refreshing feeling to Su Yuchen. He thought about it, the tea should have been made by using some rare Astral Treasure tea leaves.

The two disciples turned towards them. They were a pair of female and male disciples. The female disciple was beautiful lady with bright and sharp eyes. The male disciple had an handsome face with perfectly chiselled jawline. He had an air of authority around him while his piercing eyes gazed at the two people as if to look into their minds.

They stood up and greeted Senior Brother Li, "Greetings Senior Brother Li."

Seeing them standing up, Senior Brother Li showed a gentle smile and greeted them, "It's good to see Junior Sister Bai Yuhua, and Junior Brother Jin Tianlong after a long time. Junior Sister, it is surprising to see you here. Did the Third Elder relieve you from your punishment?"

Bai Yuhua gave a slight awkward smile and said, "There is an important event in the cultivation world. How can my master keep me in seclusion? He let me go."

She wanted to change the topic, so she quickly turned towards Su Yuchen, who was standing beside Senior Brother Li. She asked, "Who is this junior brother?"

Su Yuchen immediately greeted both of them, "Greetings Senior Sister and Senior Brother. My name is Su Yuchen. I am a new inner sect disciple who was recruited this year."

Senior Brother Li also introduced him, "This is Su Yuchen, he is the most talented disciple recruited this year. He has a great future ahead of him." His tone had a little pride in it.

Bai Yuhua stopped as if she was thinking about something, she quickly spoke loudly, "Huh! I remember you. You were recruited by Elder Shu. I have seen a portrait of you this morning, but you look a lot different from the portrait." She proceeded to examine Su Yuchen up and down.

"Pardon me. Do you really have a portrait of me? I don't know anything about any portrait depicting me." Su Yuchen was confused about what Bai Yuhua said.

Jin Tianlong answered Su Yuchen, "Junior Brother, every disciple as his portrait drawn and stored in the sect. You don't have to worry about it." He wanted to clear any misunderstanding Su Yuchen had thought about in his mind.

"Yes, what Junior Brother Tianlong said is true." Senior Brother Li said to Su Yuchen.

"Okay! Thank you for saying about this." Su Yuchen said to Jin Tianlong.

"But the portrait I had seen was not like a disciple portrait from the sect." Bai Yuhua interfered at this time. She looked at Su Yuchen awkwardly and continued to speak, "Sorry to say this, Junior Brother, but you were depicted like a beggar in the portrait."

All three of them were shocked by the words of Bai Yuhua.

Bai Yuhua immediately took out a book, opened a page and showed it to everyone. "This was given to me by my maid this morning. She gathered about everything that happened in the sect during the time I was in seclusion and recorded them in this book. You can look at the portrait yourself."

A page containing a portrait was displayed openly in front of everyone's eyes. The portrait depicted an ordinary man in tattered clothes with colourful patches sewn all over the tears. Su Yuchen's face was also exaggerated with mud and dirt all over it to make him look like a beggar in the portrait, while also retaining enough features of his face to recognise him.

Senior Brother Li's face turned black while looking at the portrait. Jin tianlong felt a little sympathy for Su Yuchen.

Su Yuchen was dismayed by looking at the portrait. He remembered that attire, it was what he wore on the day Elder Shu came to his village for recruitment. Those were the clothes he wore regularly in the village and also what he wore when he was brought to the recruitment without any notice by his friends.

He didn't feel wronged when he had to wear them in the mountain village, but when he realised that this portrait was circulated in the inner sect and then having it reach the core area made him feel deeply discomforted.

"I didn't arrive to the sect in this attire. I wore better clothes when I came here. Why was this attire used? Who drew this portrait?" Su Yuchen tried to steady his mood and asked them. He inadvertently thought about the disciples following Elder Shu.

"It can be any person. Those who have seen you in that attire could have just described you in them to the person who drew it." Senior Brother Li said this as he guessed the thoughts Su Yuchen was having at the moment. He didn't want Su Yuchen to have any negative impression of the Third Elder faction without any unexplained reasons. That would be harming his future.

"So who could have done this?" Su Yuchen asked in a low, dull voice. He understood why Senior Brother Li said what he said, it means there were possibilities of his fellow villagers and acquaintances being a part in drawing the portrait. He figured out that he shouldn't view the Third Elder's faction in a negative light just because the faction conflicts indirectly led to his humiliation being spread among the inner sect and the core area.

He also understood that his humiliation wasn't a big issue in the eyes of everyone except him. Everyone was just watching the conflict between the different factions and he became one of the pieces that brought fun to all.

A small joke of tripping the most talented recruit and then a portrait depicting him as a beggar. It's just a small gag.

A small pawn was involved in the internal conflicts of the sect to bring some relief to everyone without offending any faction. This small pawn will remain a small pawn.

"Maybe, we can find who drew this portrait." Bai Yuhua said as she looked at Su Yuchen. "There are people who can find the person that has drawn a portrait by examining the portrait. Do you want me to help you?"

Senior Brother Li instantly replied, "Thank you for your concern, Junior Sister Bai, but you don't need to help in this matter. Junior Brother Su is helping me with my work in the mount stable, but as his Senior Brother I was negligent and failed to find out about this matter. I will personally look into this matter and help Junior Brother Su. You don't have to worry anymore. How about it?" He didn't want to involve the Third Elder's direct disciples in this matter and unnecessarily make it even bigger.

Seeing Bai Yuhua still thinking about it, Jin Tianlong answered on her behalf, "It's okay, Senior Brother Li. We won't interfere when you decide to personally take charge of this matter. If you need any help you can inform us, we are glad to assist you."

"Yes. Don't be embarrassed to ask us, Senior Brother Li." Bai Yuhua followed up.

"Thank you for your enthusiasm. It seems like a long time as passed since you have arrived here. Now tell me, what brought our two esteemed guests to this mount stable?" Senior Brother Li changed the topic to make Su Yuchen more comfortable.

Bai Yuhua answered him as she remembered about the reason she came to the mount stable, "We came to buy a mount for my Junior Brother. Can you suggest a good beast for him?"

Senior Brother Li looked at Jin Tianlong and said, "Of course, I will find the best mount for Junior Brother Tianlong." He then continued to ask, "However, why are you picking a mount beast at this time, Junior Brother? Are you also going into the Star Blaring secret realm?"

"I am, Senior Brother Li." Jin Tianlong nodded.

"You haven't reached the Astral Foundation Realm, Junior Brother. Won't this be risky? How did you convince the Third Elder to give you permission to enter the secret realm?" asked Senior Brother Li curiously.

"I convinced my master by letting him make Senior Sister Bai only follow me within the first level of the Star Blaring secret realm. She was not allowed to leave me during the entire time we are in the secret realm. Senior Bai also agreed to this request gracefully." Jin Tianlong said with a conniving smile.

"Junior Brother, you are embarrassing me." Bai Yuhua said angrily as she gritted her teeth.

"Ha-ha-ha!" Senior Brother Li laughed hearing Jin Tianlong's answer.

"You don't have to worry about missing any big opportunities, Junior Sister Bai. The Elders only managed to confirm that there are four levels in the secret realm, there was no other major information. This is the first time, cultivators are entering into the Star Blaring secret realm. There won't be many treasures that will be lost. Next time you can search it freely with additional information. This time you can protect your Junior Brother and help him progress in cultivation." Senior Brother consoled Bai Yuhua after stopping his laughter.

"But I heard that there's a giant bell in the Star Blaring secret realm with a chance of giving birth to a spirit. That is a legendary spirit artefact. According to legends they will choose their own masters. How can I miss such an opportunity? What if someone manages to get chosen by that giant bell?" Bai Yuhua cried at Senior Brother Li.

"Those are just legends. We don't have any confirmed information." Senior Brother Li answered her. "If you want a spirit artefact just reach the same status as your master."

Su Yuchen was contemplating on the reason behind the portrait while also paying attention to their conversation. When he heard their discussion about spirit artefacts, his eyes involuntarily widened from the information.

He processed their conversation and thought, 'So, the artefacts of this world does have their own spirit.'

Chapter 13

Su Yuchen immediately started calling the system in his mind, 'System? Hello, are you there?'

He tried to call the system when it first appeared in his mind, there was no response from it then and he stopped bothering about it after sometime. He thought that the system might only be a lifeless tool with a single function of sign in.

However, if an artefact could give birth to sentience and grow a spirit in this cultivation world, then his system might also have a spirit of its own.

'System! Can you hear me?', he asked in his mind with a sense of urgency.

'System, respond to me!', he shouted in his mind.

'System, please respond to me!'

Su Yuchen's face turned bad as he got no response from the system after he waited for a while. He lowered his head to avoid others noticing his bad mood.

'System, lets communicate. Don't make me stand on an edge.'

'We can discuss cooperation. You are not giving me all these resources for free, are you?'

'System, are you fresh out of factory? You didn't have the time to grow a spirit?'

'Don't you have any AI?'

Su Yuchen continued to ask questions in his mind and tried to get a response from the system. However, there was no reply from the system.

He became even more uncomfortable.

He calmed down, and began to concentrate on the conversation of his senior disciples.

Su Yuchen decided to learn more about spirit weapons.

Later, he followed them to choose a beast for Jin Tianlong. Jin Tianlong chose a rare flying white tiger with small golden marks on it as his beast mount.

After Third Elder's disciples left the mount stable, they returned to the counter.

Senior Brother Li looked at Su Yuchen and said, "I will ask someone to look into the portrait and find who drew it. You might not be dragged into the conflicts anymore, the people behind this incident should have already stopped using you. I will make sure that is the case."

"Thank you, Senior Brother Li, this help means a lot to me." Su Yuchen clasped his hands and bowed to Senior Brother Li.

"It is nothing. I am doing my duty as your Senior Disciple." Senior Brother Li shook his head and said.

"Senior Brother Li what is a spirit artefact?" Su Yuchen asked him with a curious look.

"Hmm, spirit artefact? They are the most powerful weapons cultivators can wield. Being able to wield a spirit artefact also means that you are among the most powerful cultivators in the world." Senior Brother Li started to speak about spirit weapons.

"Spirit artefacts are Heaven grade artefacts that has gave birth to a spirit. It is rare for Heaven grade artefacts to give birth to spirits. These spirit artefacts can function on their own and also attack other without a cultivator controlling it. Cultivators can also maintain a connection from long distances and control these weapons to attack others."

"Most importantly, these spirit artefacts will help a cultivator in their cultivation. The spirit artefacts can become a cultivators second mind. That's the reason it is important when a spirit artefact chooses their master. Only when both the spirit artefact and the cultivator work in harmony can the spirit artefact provide its master with help in their cultivation."

"If you ever have the luck and fortune to come across a spirit artefact choosing its master, try your best to coordinate with it. Even if the artefact is not a water or earth element artefact, it can guide you in your cultivation and protect you."

Su Yuchen listened to senior Brother Li's explanation carefully and learned everything about the spirit artefact. The intelligence of a spirit artefact made him frown.

He asked Senior Brother Li, "Can the spirit artefact attack its owner if its that intelligent?"

Senior Brother Li shook his head, "No, it is impossible for spirit artefacts to attack their masters. To make a spirit artefact as his own, a cultivator must use his soul while refining the artefact. The spirit of the artefact and the cultivator's soul will then be in a synchronised state from that moment. If the cultivator is attacked by the artefact, it will only hurt itself. The spirit artefact can't try to self destruct like a cultivator if it decided to die together with its master. So no, there are no methods for the spirit artefact to attack its owner."

Su Yuchen asked, "Can the spirit artefact leave its master?"

"Yes, when the spirit artefact is dissatisfied with its master, the synchronisation weakens and both parties can choose to separate." Senior Brother Li answered him.

Su Yuchen nodded and asked, "What do the spirit artefacts look like? Just like a regular weapon or furnace?"

Senior Brother Li asked, "They can be both weapons and other items. There are spirit weapons in the form of swords, spears and there are spirit items in the form of furnaces, gourds. Heaven grade Artefacts are made in many forms, a spirit can grow from all of them."

Su Yuchen continued to ask him, "Brother do you know any spirit artefact that has not acknowledged a master till now?"

Senior Brother Li looked at Su Yuchen and grinned, "There certainly are spirit artefacts which have not acknowledged a master till now. Do you want to try your luck with them, Junior brother? I have to remind you, some of them are bloodthirsty."

Su Yuchen raised his hand and refused, "No, I am not after them. I just want to know about these tools that can have their own spirit."

"Senior Brother Li, please tell me more about these spirit artefacts."

Senior Brother Li laughed and said, "Sure. I will start with the spirit artefact that is best suitable for you according to your affinity. The Fallen Star Umbrella, it is a spirit weapon which is suitable for water element cultivators. The Fallen Star Umbrella can make storms. It can also turn the rain droplets into sharp weapons and hurt its enemies."

He looked at Su Yuchen with a solemn look and said, "When the enemy bleeds, the fallen star umbrella will begin drawing out more bleed from them and then use the blood as blades to continue attacking."

"This is the best water elemental artefact known to anyone. Because of its effects, the fallen star umbrella was one of the most sought after weapon in the world. But the spirit artefact never acknowledged any master, even when another spirit artefact user attacked it and damaged it, the fallen star umbrella refused to acknowledge that person."

"Junior brother, do you want to try subduing this weapon when you grow up? I am sure it will suite you and sync with you." Su Yuchen was asked by Senior Brother Li with a laugh.

Su Yuchen said in a flat, insincere tone, "I will get that umbrella. I only ever used a straw umbrella to protect myself from rain and sun in the village. Now in the sect, I need to hide from others who keep on staring at my beautiful face, so I will get this umbrella for security. Senior Brother, you can also share it with me when we have to walk outside. Handsome men are not safe even when walking in daylight."

"Ha-ha-ha"

In the practise hall, Mount Stable.

Senior Brother Li's fist was falling on Su Yuchen's head. Suddenly, he made a shift movement to the falling fist and changed its direction at the last moment to hit Su Yuchen on his chest.

Su Yuchen reacted instantly, he turned his body to his left and used his right shoulder to bear the attack of the fist.

When the fist fell, Su Yuchen felt a pain from his shoulder, he lost his body balance in the next moment and began to fall, he quickly came to his senses from the pain and tried to move his feet to balance himself.

Senior Brother Li did not gave him a chance to steady himself and kicked at his knees with a side kick.

The kick hit Su Yuchen's knee and made him fall down.

Senior Brother Li continued to make a heavy stomp beside Su Yuchen's face, causing him and the floor to shudder.

Senior Brother Li retracted his leg, looked down at Su Yuchen and said, "It's good that you are only showing your reactions before my attacks fall on you, but not everyone is going to attack you carelessly. Like the way I changed my attack at the last moment, others would also react according to your reactions and change their attacks at the last moments."

Senior Brother Li pulled Su Yuchen from the floor and continued to speak, "I will surprise you with these attacks from now own. You must first learn to counter attack them on your own."

Senior Brother Li put some distance between them. After both of them got ready, he began to attack him. 

When an attack was about to fall on Su Yuchen's face, he quickly turned his head and counter attacked with a punch to the chest of Senior Brother Li.

Senior Brother Li took a back step, Su Yuchen's eyes followed the movement of his legs. Senior Brother Li immediately stretched his right hand in a claw form and attacked at Su Yuchen's throat, but a fast kick headed towards his hip and landed on him.

Senior Brother Li quickly retracted his claws, while adjusting himself, he used his left hand and punched towards his heart. Su Yuchen dodged to his right.

Senior brother Li kicked his left leg at Su Yuchen's knees.

Su Yuchen counter kicked his legs. A sharp shout came out of his mouth from the pain.

Senior Brother Li stomped his leg and stretched his left claw at Su Yuchen's face.

Su Yuchen moved his head to the side while trying to use his left hand to hit the ribs of Senior Brother Li. Senior Brother Li instantly changed the direction of his left claw when Su Yuchen started to move his head and grabbed Su Yuchen's throat.

Although Su Yuchen was surprised, his fist still continued the attack at the ribs, but his hand was caught by Senior Brother Li's right hand. The back of his knee was kicked and he fell to the ground.

"You didn't even react, right now. Concentrate more during the fight." Senior Brother Li said while taking a back step.

Su Yuchen coughed while getting up. "I am concentrating."

Su Yuchen fell down five more times while only seeing the attack change in midair twice.

"You are deciding your counter attacks only after knowing my target. Just decide on dodging if you are doing that. From now on, make decisions after I moved a body part, and then proceed with an attack. Change your attacks in midair when you think of your attack as a mistake." Senior Brother Li instructed loudly. "You will be changing your attacks at the last moment from now on."

Chapter 14

Su Yuchen began his breakthrough into the Meridian Refinement Realm. Senior Brother Li was notified during the daytime, and he decided to give Su Yuchen his own cultivation room for a smooth breakthrough.

Su Yuchen sat down in a luxurious cultivation room. He looked at everything in the cultivation room and then began to focus on meditation. He effortlessly visualised his meridian system and checked his astral energy. His Meridian system was nearly filled with light purple coloured astral energy. The astral energy in his body had obviously decreased from his last cultivation session, as it slowly dissipated and flowed into his organs. Su Yuchen wasn't worried about the disintegration, it is a natural process.

Ten circulations should be enough to fill the meridian system with astral, Su Yuchen calculated. He immediately started cultivating without wasting anytime and concentrated on his life essence and connected to it in an instant.

As the Life essence became active, the astral energy around was also connected to it. Su Yuchen slowly controlled the Life essence and led it through the astral energy. The meridian system was filled with astral energy that was infused with its aura. Life essence moved in his astral energy, like a fish moving in water, without facing any resistance.

Su Yuchen led it towards his hands and collected the astral energy from there. The Life essence completed the circulation in that meridian and made a second round to collect the astral energy once again. The acupoints in Su Yuchen's hands absorbed astral energy from the stellar rock he held, this was collected by his life essence. The Life Essence once again completed a circulation in that meridian.
