Chapter 20
“Haha. Welcome back, Sir.”
Galloway’s face brightened when he saw the man who followed Sellonia in.
At the end of the long table, diagonally to the right of Galloway, who was seated at the head of the table, was another guest.
It was a face she knew. It was Sir Rubeus, the knight commander who led the knights of the Duke of Basin.
Was he the second son of Count Sid?
Because his skills were outstanding, he received scouting offers from many places, but she knew that he remained loyal to her father.
Sellonia was taken aback by the unexpected guest. Because she didn’t want anyone to see this suspicious man.
But it was already too late.
“It’s been a while, Princess.”
Rubeus stood up, pleased with Sellonia’s appearance.
“Yes. It’s been a while, Sir Sid.”
“How are you feeling?”
“I’ve gotten a lot better.”
“That’s fortunate. I was worried.”
Rubeus smiled shyly and scratched the back of his head. The tips of his ears were slightly red.
“Selly, I suddenly got caught up in something. I think I have to go out with Rubeus soon, so we’re going to eat together, that’s fine, right?”
“Sure.”
Sellonia hid her reluctance as she sat opposite Rubeus and diagonally to the left of her father.
The Demon King followed her in and sat down next to her.
“Is it fine for Sir too?”
“Doesn’t matter.”
As soon as he spoke with an expressionless expression, silence fell in the dining room.
Sellonia’s head felt dizzy at his half-answered answer.
Rubeus even stiffened his expression and was about to stand up, holding the sword at his waist.
“This person is very sick!”
She hurriedly opened her mouth and tapped his foot with her foot under the table.
When he looked at her with his eyebrows twitching in displeasure, Sellonia quietly told him to keep his mouth shut with her burning eyes.
“Hahaha. Rubeus, it’s fine. Sir is a nobleman who saved my daughter.”
“I see. I almost committed rudeness. sorry. My name is Rubeus Sid.”
Rubeus, who had taken off his arse, greeted him with a calmer expression.
Sellonia pursed her lips and mumbled so softly that only he who sat next to her could hear.
“
Dun’t tulk
.”
The moment he understood that, he just grinned and nodded his head once.
This was also quite rude behavior, but not to the point where a sword was held.
The situation was resolved thanks to Galloway’s generosity.
The chef brought out a whole piece of warm chicken and cut it into large chunks with a sharp knife.
“Anyway, Sir, how are you feeling? Is your wound okay?”
Sellonia, who was carrying the chicken cut by the chef, was shocked.
He shouldn’t be given a chance to answer, yet her father keeps asking him questions without notice. She was going crazy.
“It’s fine.”
Sellonia was about to take action after hearing the answer cut in half again, but her father laughed heartily first.
“Haha. I’m glad you’re fine. The doctor says it’s just temporary, but I’ll have him take care of you to get better as much as possible while you’re here.”
“Yes.”
“Anyway, you’ve eaten all your meals so far, right? If you eat well, your wound will heal quickly.”
“What do I eat?”
He, who was sitting quietly without putting any food in his mouth and answering questions like a machine, asked back as if he was truly curious.
“If you don’t eat food, you’ll feel hungry and your wounds won’t heal well. If you continue to starve, you could die.”
It was a kind answer, as if he were educating a child who had just opened his eyes to the world.
“What does it mean to be hungry?”
“He had a head injury and couldn’t feel much.”
As soon as he answered, Sellonia suddenly intervened and made an excuse.
It made her wonder why she was doing this here.
“I see. You feel hunger less easily than others.”
Rubeus gave him a suspicious look, glanced at him and muttered. At a moment when it was difficult for her to make excuses, Sellonia broke into a cold sweat.
“Duke.”
The meal had just begun when her father’s aide, Raymond, hurried into the dining room.
Perhaps it was a secret story, but Raymond covered his mouth with his hand and whispered it into his father’s ear.
“Goodness. Sellonia, I have to go out now. Sir, I’m sorry. We’ll have regular meals again soon.”
“Then Princess, I’ll see you later.”
Perhaps because it was so urgent, her father and Rubeus left the dining room before Sellonia could respond.
“Haa…”
As the two men disappeared, Sellonia, who had been suffering for ten years leaned her limp body against the back.
She felt as if she had aged ten years in these short minutes.
“Hey.”
“Speak.”
“I know you don’t remember anything, but please don’t speak informally to the other person.”
“Why?”
He asked back with an expression that he really didn’t understand.
Ah, enough. It was clear that even if she said it, he wouldn’t understand.
Someone who has never bowed down to anyone or raised his voice in his life.
Sellonia decided to just eat quickly and leave, so she sliced the chicken that was brought to her plate and put it in her mouth.
As she chewed and swallowed, his still empty plate caught her eye.
She turned her head and saw him staring at her eating. With an unknown expression.
Could it be that he doesn’t know how to eat? So is that why he hasn’t eaten yet?
Her suspicions soon became confirmation.
Because he asked her father what it meant to be hungry.
“Just eat.”
She had no choice but to place the cut chicken on his plate.
It didn’t matter whether he was starving or not, but those red eyes staring at people were so burdensome that she wanted to turn them away.
“…”
He turned his head to look at her without saying a word as he noticed the empty white plate in front of him being filled.
His red eyes were shaking slightly. With a bit of confusion and doubt.
“You don’t want me to even cut it, do you? Eat.”
Sellonia said bluntly and she cut up the meat in front of her again.
After watching her actions from afar, he looked at the food on his plate again.
The meat she served looked appetizing to anyone.
At that moment, a strange craving stirred within his body.
It was like a thirst he hadn’t felt since he opened his eyes.
What is this thirst?
He felt like he had to fill my stomach right away as anything was good.
Besides, what is this feeling?
She didn’t even hold his hand, but the reason he felt warmth…
Rumble, rumble.
Feeling strange, he stared at the food for a while, then slowly stretched out his hand and began to mimic Sellonia’s actions.
First, he picked up a silver knife and fork and cut up a thick piece of chicken.
Although it was awkward, the meat was cut smoothly, probably because he had done it in the past.
He was neither familiar with nor understood what he was doing.
But he thought this place wasn’t that bad.
He has no memory, so the memories from when he opened his eyes three months ago until now were all he had in his life.
There was no meal like this in there. He was unfamiliar. All of this.
One corner of his lips turned up without anyone noticing.
‘It looks like he ate some food.’
Sellonia thought as she watched the Demon King cutting up chicken.
She thought he had never eaten food, but it seems that wasn’t the case. His hand moving the knife felt natural.
Moreover, he seemed to have learned etiquette, and his actions even exuded elegance.
“Have you been starving since you woke up?”
As she observed his actions, Sellonia suddenly asked a question that she had been thinking about without realizing it.
“Right.”
“Why?”
“Because there is no need.”
Sellonia blinked her wide eyes.
Can the Demon King, unlike humans, survive without eating food?
But to say he didn’t eat food, his body didn’t make sense.
His body isn’t that of someone who has starved for three months, but one that can be seen of anyone who eats chicken breast and protein then works out a lot.
Speaking from the perspective of seeing his bare body in person, his noticeably thick muscles looked twice as exaggerated as the bodies of knights who had been trained to hold a sword for ten years.
“It’s something I’m born with.”
He noticed her eyes scanning over his body and said with a sly expression.
“W-Who said what?”
At the thought of being caught, Sellonia turned her newly red face in a panic.
He grinned and lifted the shredded chicken to his mouth.
He thought that the savory and light taste that spread in his mouth wasn’t bad.
“Hey.”
Sellonia, who was chewing her meat with her eyes fixed on the plate out of embarrassment, suddenly had a question and opened her mouth.
This is what she was most curious about ever since she found out his identity.
“Speak.”
“Why were you giving food to people?”
Why is the man called the Beast of the Night doing good deeds by collecting leftover food from cafes and distributing it to hungry people?
No matter how much she doesn’t remember, it was very different from before.
“Because it’s needed.”
He answered right away as if it wasn’t a very difficult question.
The answer was more obvious than she thought.
Sellonia hesitated, not knowing how to react, but she decided to just respond.
“Yes. People need food.”
However, what she heard next was unexpected.
“No. Me sharing food at that moment.”
