The Main Character is Obsessed With a Foreign Substance

V1C13

Talking to himself, Suhwan took out a few cans of beer. All were famous foreign brands. If he searched elsewhere besides the refrigerator, he might find expensive wine or whiskey, but he had apparently been a thorough commoner before his manifestation. Expensive alcohol didn’t appeal to him much.

“But there aren’t any snacks.”

However, the important snacks were missing. Going out to the convenience store now would be bothersome…

After contemplating, Suhwan returned to the living room with just the beer. Tonight, he planned to simply create a nice mood by having just one can of beer.

He turned on the TV, found a suitable entertainment program, and opened the beer.

Pop-

With a cheerful sound, white foam bubbled up. Suhwan quickly drank the overflowing foam.

‘But, Jin Suhwan… he must be good at drinking, right?’

After taking a sip, he belatedly became worried. But soon he realized it was unnecessary concern.

Jin Suhwan was the number one delinquent character in the novel. Even when Suhwan had manifested in him, Jin had been collapsed in a back alley, completely drunk. He probably drank excessively when in high spirits, but ordinarily would have had an incredible capacity for alcohol without getting drunk easily.

So one can of beer would hardly even register in Jin Suhwan’s liver. Thinking lightly of it, Suhwan took a big gulp of beer.

The cool beer flowed down his throat as if being sucked in. As the cold, stimulating liquid containing carbonation and alcohol irritated the inside of his throat, a satisfied groan escaped naturally.

“Ahh.”

The beer tasted so good after such a long time. Suhwan unknowingly smacked his lips with satisfaction. Though he was drinking alone without a single snack, it was excellent enough.

After finishing one can quickly, Suhwan felt regretful. Should he have just one more can? Tempted by alcohol in that moment, he moved toward the refrigerator again as if entranced. Then he returned to the living room with a couple more cans.

It’s fine. Jin Suhwan was a heavy drinker. Just a few cans of beer.

Muttering to himself words meant for no one in particular, he opened another beer with a pop. Suhwan drank another can in succession, and immediately reached for the next beer. It was a natural, fluid motion.

Feeling his mind becoming a bit hazy, Suhwan mumbled.

“Is it me who wants to drink now, or is it Jin Suhwan?”

But it was impossible to know even after thinking about it. Unfortunately, Suhwan had no memories from before his manifestation. So he didn’t know what kind of person he was, even himself. It was why he had wandered for a month after manifesting, unable to adapt to Jin Suhwan’s body.

Was it really because he liked beer and craved alcohol, or was it Jin Suhwan’s body accepting the alcohol and wanting more out of excitement? As Suhwan became tipsy from the alcohol, he became even more uncertain.

“Haa.”

Suddenly, a sad emotion washed over him. It was belatedly heartbreaking to be struggling in a complete stranger’s body without even knowing who he was. If it were a decent character, maybe, but this was a garbage character that everyone hated.

Those eyes looking at him with contempt, those whispering voices. Though he couldn’t show it to anyone, Suhwan was deeply hurt inside. It would have been nice to have even one friend, but someone with broken character like Jin Suhwan wouldn’t have any friends.

“This is really tough.”

He rubbed his throbbing forehead and muttered. He thought he was enduring well, but apparently not. Being alone at home drinking made all sorts of negative thoughts fill Suhwan’s mind.

What if I really die like Jin Suhwan in the novel…?

By the time such thoughts occurred to him, a tear had fallen onto his cheek without him realizing it.

And at the same moment, the sound of the door lock opening was heard.

Beep beep beep beep, beep.

Click.

“Ah.”

“…!”

Soon, his eyes met Seunghyun’s as he entered the living room. Seunghyun looked surprised, as if he hadn’t expected to encounter Suhwan at such a late hour. And seeing Suhwan crying, his expression hardened.

“Why are you crying?”

Seunghyun asked, but Suhwan couldn’t answer and just opened his lips stupidly. He was also confused by this unexpected encounter.

Then Seunghyun approached with big strides. He might have been drinking too, as a bitter scent of alcohol wafted over.

Seunghyun came up to Suhwan sitting on the sofa and looked down at him with a crooked face. He seemed displeased that Suhwan wasn’t answering.

“I asked why you’re crying.”

“Well…”

Again unable to answer, Suhwan lowered his face. At the same time, a somewhat rough hand lifted Suhwan’s face.

“I asked why you’re crying, Jin Suhwan.”

“…!”

The brown eyes that met his were darkly sunken. Suhwan, flustered, simply blinked his eyes.
