Chapter 9: Oracles and Questioning
"Father, you are ancient and powerful beyond measure. Yet, I've heard that even you have been bested by Samael. How could that be?
"My son, power, is not merely a matter of age or origin. Samael's strength is not like mine—it is a different force entirely, born of his unique will, his relentless pursuit of knowledge, and his untamed fire. Darkness and chaos may be my domain, but Samael is driven by something more… consuming.
Yes, darkness is patient, eternal, swallowing all things in time. But Samael… Samael's power is different. His drive is unyielding, born of a need to conquer every mystery, to grasp creation itself and bend it to his will. He does not merely seek to envelope, as I do. He seeks to know, to master, and in doing so, he burns brighter and hotter than many can withstand."
"But don't you regret yielding to him? Don't you wish you could have… conquered him instead?
"Conquered? No. Samael's path is his own, and to conquer him would be to alter his nature. Just as darkness cannot be compelled to shine, Samael cannot be forced into submission without extinguishing what he is. And to destroy his fire would be to miss the point. In losing, I allowed him to fulfill his purpose—however destructive it may be.

"Enough of this farce! Let the discussions begin!"
After Samael spoke, Michael turned sharply towards Jophiel and Raphael and then spoke with a commanding voice, radiating an invisible pressure that shook the void.
Samael POV...
As I took my seat, I reclined within its soft embrace psyching myself to tolerate whatever mystery Father was going to reveal and his purpose for this so-called Endless..
Gabriel arose from his throne, walking to the center of the council room, before blowing gently on his horn. Right then and there, a solemn silence descended upon all of creation, as if the apocalypse had reared its head. The will of the Almighty was to be proclaimed..
Standing tall before the Divine Council, his wings shimmering in the light of the Almighty's presence, and after a moment, he spoke..
"Council of Heaven, I come bearing a message from the Almighty Himself. It is an oracle that speaks of a new mystery—one that we must accept, though it may lie beyond our understanding."
"A new mystery? Gabriel, speak plainly. There are whispers of beings who walk the boundaries of existence, born without the Creator's familiar command. What are these… Endless?" Michael's gaze was sharp and his flaming irises bore into Gabriel's.
"Yes, Michael, the Almighty has willed that we understand what we can of these new beings." Gabriel was anything but intimidated by Michael's sharp gaze.
"Their birth was indeed sudden, and though they are newly emerged, they carry a purpose that is ancient, woven into the very essence of the multiverse.
The Almighty has spoken thus: "They are the Endless, for they embody that which has no end—Destiny, Death, Dream, Destruction, Desire, Despair, and Delirium. They are manifestations of the cycles I have set within the fabric of all things."
Hearing this, confusion descended, and Raphael interrupted the messenger with a question.
" They were not spoken into being as we were, yet they exist by His will?"
"Precisely, Raphael. They were not called forth as we were, nor do they serve as we do. Rather, they arose from the multiverse itself, from the very first thought of creation. They are born of the primal forces that govern existence. Their purpose is not obedience but presence—they embody essential truths that pulse within every realm and reality."
Uriel furrowed his brows thoughtfully..
"If they are so fundamental, Gabriel, then why now? Why did they come into being only recently?"
Gabriel unlocked the scrolls in his hands with golden seals and read from them..
"The Almighty's words on this were thus: 'They are born of time's own maturation, as a tree bears fruit when its season arrives. The multiverse has grown, and with it, the forces that sustain its order have taken form.' The Endless have always existed in essence, but as creation expanded, these forces required embodiment, presence, so that all beings across realms might understand and relate to them.
"Then they are necessary for the multiverse to endure, Gabriel. But what of their power? It is said that Death among them touches even the immortal, and Dream shapes realities beyond counting. What is their purpose within creation?" Azrael retorted sombrely.
"The Almighty has spoken thus; 'They are not agents of change, but of continuity. Through them, the cycles of creation are maintained, and balance endures. Destiny weaves the path of all, Death brings renewal, Dream shapes vision, Destruction ensures transformation, Desire fuels creation, Despair tempers ambition, and Delirium allows for freedom from rigid order.' Each embodies a cycle without which existence would stagnate or collapse."
Gabriel answered flawlessly, fueled by divine understanding as instructed by the Almighty Himself.
"Then they are, in a sense, the beating heart of the multiverse, its cosmic pulse. Without them, even our acts would be incomplete."
Michael leaned back in his throne, pinching his temples.
"Indeed, Michael. The Almighty has commanded that we understand this: 'The Endless are not bound to us, nor to judgment, for they answer only to the order within themselves. They do not serve the hierarchy, for they are as natural as light and darkness, intrinsic to creation's structure.' Their existence is not one of obedience, but of embodiment. They are forces made manifest."
Gabriel replied and I watched him with an examining gaze. Clearly Father was speaking through him..But even I had a question. One that resulted from Michael's reflections.
"Yet are we not meant to guide and protect creation? What is our role, if they are the heartbeat?"
The whole room descended into silence the moment I asked. Even Michael who offered the reflection was stunned into silence, unable to answer a question that arose from his own reflection.
"The Almighty has spoken: 'As angels, you are my hands, my voices, my keepers of order and guardians of will. The Endless are my silent echoes, my universal constants, ever-present yet intangible. You carry out my intent; they sustain my essence within the cosmos itself.' They are not here to perform tasks, but to simply be. Our roles do not conflict; rather, they complete the whole."
Gabriel's eyes flashed with a spark of power for a moment as he answered me, clearly Father chose to answer than himself, though I was unsatisfied by his reasons.
Could it be that we as his children were not enough for him? Did he not trust us enough to allow us to handle his creation? What was the use of the Endless when we existed?
I questioned inwardly..
"Then we are to coexist, honoring their presence as we honor the cycles of life and death, light and darkness." Jophiel who had been silent let out a sigh and endorsed their purpose.
"Yes, Jophiel. The Almighty has said: "The Endless are as eternal as the breath I breathed into the first Word. They serve the multiverse not by choice but by being. They are bound to creation's pulse, each a thread in the grand weave that none may sever."
"Then it is not our place to question them, nor to seek control, but to allow them their purpose and respect the forces they represent."
Azrael nodded sombrely, endorsing as well. He agreed with what Father had presented, just like Jophiel.
"Precisely, Azrael. The Almighty's will is clear: "The Endless are as night and day, as time and space, boundless yet ordered. They are of me, yet beyond my command. Let their presence remind you that all things have purpose, even those beyond your understanding."
Gabriel's voice was beginning to irritate me. Did he really have to answer every question? Every statement?
With a solemn nod, Michael replied "Then we shall honor the oracle and accept the Endless as part of the multiverse's design. They are neither friend nor foe, neither ally nor adversary. They simply are."
"And so the message is given, and so it shall be received. Let us carry this understanding within us, a reminder that even in our vastness, we are part of a greater whole. The Endless are here as proof that creation is not merely made, but endures through the cycles that echo the Creator's will."
With his last words, the embers of power faded from Gabriel's eyes and he took in a deep breath.
It seemed the council had reached a consensus. The Endless were to be left alone to operate within the cosmos, but I wasn't ready to give up..
"So, we are to accept the creation of these Endless without question? Are we to believe they simply emerged from creation itself, or is their existence proof that the Almighty finds us… lacking?"
My line of questioning shocked everyone within the hall and brought out the doubts that plagued them, doubts they could not speak of. Azrael, Raphael and Uriel, looked towards Gabriel for an answer, yet in that moment, the messenger himself went silent.
