Chapter 130: Serum (5)
Jason's complexion paled when he saw the look on Sentinel's face. He let out a low groan as he realised this maniac wanted to pick a fight with a beast inside of the building they were using for shelter!
"Are you crazy?" Jason let out a low hiss as he stared into the darkness. "What if you destroy this place? We'll be back to square one!"
Jason glanced around frantically as he waited for Sentinel to set him free. There was a slight beeping noise as the anchor points released from the floor. The chains swiftly receded into the ball that they had come out of before the device flew back to its place on Sentinel's belt.
"It's fine… It can't put up much of a fight. It should be quick." Sentinel scratched his chin as if he were deep in thought. "Besides… we're going to need food."
Jason felt his stomach do somersaults at the thought of eating a Fog Crawler. Its tongue was a gross enough sight to put him off from even attempting to consume it. 'Please… Don't be serious about this…' Jason silently prayed as he got to his feet. However, his prayer went unanswered.
The pistol in Sentinel's hand gave off a crimson glow as it charged a second, more powerful shot. The number one pillar of the Empire strode forward with confidence. Personally, he just really wanted to kill one of these things to vent his frustrations.
Jason gulped as he followed along behind Sentinel, who was monitoring the area up ahead. As they moved along the hall, they could see the blood splatters across the walls from where the tongue had retreated. 'It should be bleeding out, but you never know with beasts. What if it's waiting to ambush us again?' Jason thought as the sound of their footsteps bounced off the walls.
Suddenly, they heard the sound of something moving. To be more exact, they heard something pounding against a wall.
"It's trying to escape!" Sentinel let out an evil-looking grin as he heard that sound.
However, Jason felt worried by the sound. If the beast was trapped and desperate, would that not make it more dangerous? He could not help but think this was a bad idea. But Sentinel was in no mood to listen to any of his complaints. Jason could only keep quiet and go along with him.
After a few more moments, they reached the doorway where the sounds were coming from. Jason trembled as Sentinel raised his pistol and stepped inside. A bright flash almost blinded Jason as Sentinel fired his weapon. Then the sounds ceased. There was no retaliation, no sounds of pain.
Jason frowned as he stepped inside. Only to see a dead Fog Crawler that barely reached his waist in height. He could tell from a single glance that this one was extremely young. Even though it had attempted to eat him, he felt a tinge of pity for it.
"Dinner… Is served…" Sentinel grinned as he turned to face his companion, who could only shake his head.

-Antihero]
That was when Jason's gaze landed on the contents of the room. His eyes went wide as he studied the apparatus. 'It's a lab!' Jason studied what was left of the room. The Fog Crawler had destroyed a lot of the glassware but there was enough left for the place to still be useful.
Jason's mind raced as he connected some things present to the equipment that had been listed in the reports. He doubted they used this lab for experiments. It was more likely that it was somehow related to the animals kept captive in the aquarium.
'Maybe… We're not out of hope yet!' Jason grinned as he walked around the room with a serious expression.
Sentinel raised an eyebrow at Jason's odd behaviour, but restricted himself to just watching over him. If Jason had come up with an idea to get them out of here, then it was a good thing for both of them. Eventually, Jason sighed as he turned to face Sentinel.
"I think I have a way out. Well, two ways. The problem is, I can't guarantee the success of either of them." Jason's expression was solemn as he stared at his mentor with a glint in his eyes.
"What's option one?" Sentinel's mouth curled upwards as he recognised the look in Jason's eyes as one that he would often get himself.
"I can attempt to mask our scent. To be more exact, I can try to trick the Fog Crawlers into believing that we're one of them." Jason tapped his chin as he glanced at the dead specimen against the wall.
"That sounds promising…" Sentinel hummed as his cybernetic eye flashed. "What's the catch with it?"
"The catch? It'll probably work in the fog but once we're out of it everything will depend on how they react when they actually 'see' us…" Jason's voice carried the uncertainty that he was feeling.
Sentinel nodded as he felt that Jason's worry about it had solid ground. "Ok, so what's option two?"
"The second option…" Jason sighed before a deep frown crossed his face. "I can attempt to recreate the basic serum in the reports. Although I don't understand the science behind it, there were detailed instructions on what to do. I don't know what side effects it might have. But if my guess is correct… It should mask our scents and hopefully give us some kind of boost to our bodies."
"Well, that sounds much better than option one." Sentinel let out a deep laugh before he noticed the look on Jason's face. "Ok kid, give it to me straight. What's the nasty side of this?"
"It could kill us… Or not work at all. There's no telling if there'll be a backlash from whatever boost we gain once it wears off. And all of that is only if it's successful." Jason closed his eyes as he went over the details once more. "Just to be clear, there's only around about a 21% chance of this being successful…"
