Chapter 16: THE RISE OF A DEMIGOD
EXT. SACRED SHRINE – DAWN
The sun barely touches the horizon.
Mist coils around the ancient shrine, built deep within the sacred forest.
Akin approaches cautiously.
Oba Ogunlaja stands before the shrine, his royal cloak billowing in the cold morning air.
Beside him stands the Chief Priest, an old man with sunken eyes and a staff carved with mysterious symbols.
Akin bows slightly.
AKIN
"You sent for me, Kabiyesi."
The king nods.
OBA OGUNLAJA
"It is time you learned who you truly are."
Akin stiffens.
The Chief Priest steps forward, his voice low and measured.
CHIEF PRIEST
"You have felt it, haven't you? The power inside you?"
Akin nods slowly.
AKIN
"It's getting stronger. But I don't understand it."
The Chief Priest taps his staff against the ground.
A deep, ancient hum fills the air.
The shrine glows faintly.
Akin's chest tightens.
Something in this place calls to him.
The king speaks, his voice heavy with meaning.
OBA OGUNLAJA
"Akin… you are not just a warrior. You are something far greater."
Silence.
The words hang in the air.
Akin's heartbeat quickens.
AKIN
"What do you mean?"
The Chief Priest raises a hand.
CHIEF PRIEST
"Step forward."
Akin hesitates—then obeys.
The priest places a hand on Akin's forehead.
A deep warmth floods his body.
Then—
Visions explode in his mind.
INT. VISION REALM – UNKNOWN TIME
Akin finds himself standing in an endless void.
Flames flicker around him.
Then—figures emerge.
Warriors.
Not ordinary men—giants of legend.
Their eyes burn like fire. Their bodies radiate raw power.
A deep voice rumbles.
???
"You are one of us."
Akin gasps.
The warriors step forward.
A golden-eyed man—the most fearsome of them all—places a hand on Akin's shoulder.
GOLDEN-EYED WARRIOR
"You carry our blood, Akin. The blood of the first war-gods."
Akin stares, breathless.
He tries to speak—but the vision shatters.
EXT. SACRED SHRINE – DAWN
Akin staggers backward, panting.
His body burns.
His veins glow faintly for a brief moment—then fade.
The Chief Priest nods slowly.
CHIEF PRIEST
"Now you understand."
Akin grips his chest. His mind races.
The blood of war-gods?
It doesn't make sense.
But… it explains everything.
The unnatural speed. The impossible strength. The whispers in his mind.
Akin looks up at his father.
AKIN
"You knew?"
Oba Ogunlaja exhales.
OBA OGUNLAJA
"I suspected. But I needed to be sure."
Akin clenches his fists.
So much hidden from him.
So many questions.
He takes a deep breath.
AKIN
"What does this mean for me?"
The Chief Priest's gaze hardens.
CHIEF PRIEST
"It means your journey has just begun."
EXT. AJILOMI PALACE – LATER THAT DAY
Akin sits in the palace courtyard, lost in thought.
His life will never be the same.
The blood of war-gods…
What does it mean for his future?
His destiny?
Iwa approaches, concern in her eyes.
IWA
"You've been quiet since you returned."
Akin looks at her.
Should he tell her?
Before he can decide, a horn blasts in the distance.
Akin jumps to his feet.
Iwa's eyes widen.
IWA
"That's the war horn!"
Akin grabs his sword.
Trouble is coming.
And now—he must embrace what he is.
The true battle begins now.
EXT. AJILOMI VILLAGE – MIDDAY
The war horn echoes across the village.
Men grab their weapons.
Women and children rush to safety.
Akin stands on the palace balcony, scanning the horizon.
Then—he sees them.
An army.
Marching toward Ajilomi.
Hundreds of warriors.
Armor glinting in the sunlight.
Banners fluttering in the wind.
At their front—a massive warlord, mounted on a black horse.
GENERAL OMOKUNMI.
A brutal warrior from the east.
He holds up a hand—his army halts.
The ground shakes.
Akin clenches his fists.
His blood boils with energy.
Ogunlaja steps beside him.
His face is calm, but his eyes burn with fury.
OBA OGUNLAJA
"They have come to test our strength."
Akin grips his sword.
AKIN
"Then let's show them why they should fear us."
EXT. AJILOMI GATES – MOMENTS LATER
The warriors of Ajilomi line up, weapons ready.
Akin stands in front, beside Oladele, Iwa, and the palace guards.
Omokunmi rides forward, stopping just outside the gates.
His cold eyes scan the defenders.
Then, he laughs.
GENERAL OMOKUNMI
"This is the great Ajilomi? This is the kingdom that crushed Arogun?"
Akin steps forward.
AKIN
"You have come far just to die."
Omokunmi smirks.
GENERAL OMOKUNMI
"Bold words, boy. But your time is up. Surrender Ajilomi, and I might spare a few of you."
Akin tightens his grip on his sword.
Then—Ogunlaja speaks.
OBA OGUNLAJA
"Ajilomi has never bowed to any army."
Omokunmi's smile fades.
GENERAL OMOKUNMI
"Then today, you will learn what true power is."
He raises his hand—
And the attack begins.
EXT. AJILOMI BATTLEFIELD – AFTERNOON
The battle erupts.
Swords clash.
Arrows fly.
The earth shakes beneath the weight of charging warriors.
Akin leaps into battle, his speed unnatural.
His blade cuts through enemies like fire through dry grass.
Oladele fights beside him, his twin axes spinning like a storm.
Iwa moves with deadly precision, her spear finding every weak spot.
But Omokunmi's army is strong.
They keep coming.
Akin turns—and sees Omokunmi riding toward Ogunlaja.
Fast.
Too fast.
Akin's eyes flash.
Something inside him awakens.
He moves.
Faster than he ever has before.
One moment, he's on the battlefield.
The next—he's standing between Omokunmi and Ogunlaja.
Omokunmi's horse rears up in shock.
Akin glares up at him.
His veins glow faintly.
AKIN
"You will not touch my father."
Omokunmi snarls.
He leaps from his horse, his massive sword flashing down—
Akin catches it.
With his bare hand.
The battlefield falls silent.
Omokunmi's eyes widen.
Akin grins.
And then—he strikes.
His punch lands like a thunderclap.
Omokunmi flies backward, crashing into the ground.
The enemy army hesitates.
Fear creeps into their eyes.
Akin stands tall.
His power is growing.
And now—the world will know who he is.
EXT. AJILOMI – OGUNLAJA'S CHAMBER – NIGHT
The air is thick with tension.
Akin follows Ogunlaja through the dimly lit corridors of the palace, his mind spinning. This is the first time his father has acknowledged him, the first time he has called his name with meaning.
But why now?
Akin clenches his fists. His body still hums with the strange energy he felt during the battle. Arogun had seen it. The whispers in his mind had spoken.
"What am I?"
The wooden doors creak open.
Inside, the chamber is grand but bare. Weapons line the walls—war spears, swords, shields bearing Ogunlaja's crest. A massive lion skin rug lies on the floor. The flames from a nearby brazier flicker wildly.
Ogunlaja stands tall, his broad shoulders casting a shadow over his son. His face is unreadable.
OBA OGUNLAJA
"Sit."
Akin hesitates.
Then, he obeys.
Ogunlaja does not sit. He walks to the wall, picks up a long spear, and studies it for a moment.
OBA OGUNLAJA
"You fought well today."
Akin tenses. A compliment—from Ogunlaja?
OGUNLAJA
"But you did not fight like an ordinary warrior."
Akin meets his father's gaze.
AKIN
"I—"
OGUNLAJA
"You moved too fast. Your blows were too powerful. And the whispers…"
Akin's breath catches.
OGUNLAJA
"I know you hear them."
Akin looks away.
OGUNLAJA
"Tell me, Akin—what did they say to you?"
Akin hesitates. The whispers had told him many things—half of which he still didn't understand. But one phrase still echoed in his mind.
AKIN
"They said… I would soon find out."
Ogunlaja watches him carefully.
Then, he exhales deeply.
OGUNLAJA
"It is time you learned the truth."
The brazier's flames flicker.
Ogunlaja places the spear back on the wall and turns fully to Akin.
OGUNLAJA
"You are not like the others."
Akin swallows. He already knows this. But the weight in his father's voice makes him uneasy.
OGUNLAJA
"Do you remember the night of your birth?"
AKIN
"No child remembers their own birth."
OGUNLAJA
"Then let me tell you a story."
Akin sits straighter.
Ogunlaja's gaze turns distant, as if seeing a memory only he can relive.
OGUNLAJA
"The night you were born, the skies burned red."
Akin blinks.
OGUNLAJA
"A great storm raged across Ajilomi, unlike anything we had ever seen. The winds howled like spirits, and the earth trembled beneath our feet."
Akin shivers. He had never heard this before.
OGUNLAJA
"Your mother, Adunni… she labored through the storm. But something was wrong. The midwives could not explain it. It was as if the very spirits of the land were rejecting your birth."
Akin grips his knees.
OGUNLAJA
"Then, at the stroke of midnight, you entered this world. But you did not cry."
Akin's eyes widen.
OGUNLAJA
"For a moment, we thought you were dead. But then…"
Ogunlaja's voice lowers.
OGUNLAJA
"The wind stopped. The rain ceased. The flames of every torch in Ajilomi flickered… and turned blue."
The chamber feels colder.
Akin swallows hard.
OGUNLAJA
"And that was when we saw it."
A pause.
Akin's heartbeat quickens.
OGUNLAJA
"The mark."
Akin frowns.
AKIN
"What mark?"
Ogunlaja pulls a dagger from his belt.
With one swift motion—
He slices Akin's arm.
Akin gasps, clutching his skin. The wound is shallow, but blood trickles down—
And then—
It vanishes.
Akin stares.
The cut is gone. As if it was never there.
He looks at his father.
Ogunlaja's expression is unreadable.
OGUNLAJA
"The mark is not something you can see, Akin."
Akin's breathing is unsteady.
OGUNLAJA
"It is something you are."
Silence.
Akin flexes his fingers. The warmth in his blood. The speed. The whispers.
It all makes sense now.
AKIN
"What… am I?"
Ogunlaja finally sits.
OGUNLAJA
"There is a reason the spirits did not bless you that night, Akin."
Ogunlaja's next words shake Akin to his core.
OGUNLAJA
"Because you were already blessed before you were born."
Akin's heart pounds.
OGUNLAJA
"You are not just an Omo-Ogun, Akin. You are something far more."
Akin clenches his fists.
The power inside him stirs.
Ogunlaja's eyes darken.
OGUNLAJA
"You are the last descendant of a forgotten bloodline."
Akin's entire world shifts.
He stands abruptly, his breath ragged.
AKIN
"No. That's not possible."
Ogunlaja's voice is steady.
OGUNLAJA
"It is the truth. And now… others will come for you."
The words send a chill down Akin's spine.
AKIN
"Who?"
Ogunlaja grips his shoulder.
OGUNLAJA
"Those who fear what you will become."
The shadows of the chamber seem to grow longer.
Akin's destiny has just begun.
And the real battle is yet to come.
