Chapter 44: Night Sky
He hadn’t thought if the night sky was the same as Earth. He hadn’t thought of the possibility of being in the same universe as the Earth. Although he didn’t know much about the stars and their names, after coming to this world and cultivating, he had almost an eidetic memory so although he couldn’t name the stars seen from the Earth, he could remember their position. He could perfectly copy these positions and see if any positions matched. This was a farfetched idea as the position wouldn’t match if the galaxy was different. There were a lot of galaxies in the Earth’s sky just not visible to the naked eye and he didn’t know if there would be any resemblance or patterns. He knew he would get nowhere in the end but one can always hope right.
As he looked at the pond, he saw the reflection of the big silver circle. What was even more shocking was that there were two smaller purple and blue circles around it. He was shocked and jumped out of the window. He looked up at the sky and saw three moons. The biggest silver moon looked like a supermoon from the Earth. The silver moon was bright but not overly bright just perfect enough. It was as if someone had put the moon in that setting. Around the silver moon were two smaller moons, purple and blue colored in exactly opposite directions. Both the purple and blue moons were one-third the size of the silver moon.
When he tried feeling the moon with his senses, he found a little bit of yin attribute spirit energy dripping from the moon. Although the amount around him seemed insignificant, the moon turned out to be yin attributed. There were legends of the yin attribute from the moon and yang from the sun, but he hadn’t focused on it as the attributes seemed insignificant to affect someone’s cultivation. He then opened his eyes and gazed at the moon a while longer. While looking at the moon, he found that the two small moons were orbiting the silver moon. He was amazed that gravity also applied to those celestial bodies containing the spirit energy. Well, he didn’t know if it was due to gravity but he chose to believe it. He didn’t know if someone from this world had reached the moon as there was no mention of it in the legends and myths or folklores. Moon in this world were sacred objects and they may contain powers greater than any men.
As he moved his gaze away from moons to the night sky, he forgot to breathe. The sky was unreal. It was filled with gems. Even with the silver light filling the sky, it looked full, inlaid with different colored gems twinkling with myriad lights. There were flashes here and there but they were snuffed out quickly. It was an unbelievable scene. This was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. Even the beauty of moons didn’t come close to it. He didn’t know how he had missed the memory of this scene.
“No one, I mean no one should be able to forget this scene. And no one should have to” Amrit murmured beneath his breath and kept looking at the sky. There were white, blue, purple, red, green, and other colored stars twinkling with even more colored lights. Even with the random mix of colors, not even one star felt out of place. It looked like the greatest painting anyone could ever paint. There was nothing else on his mind, he was just looking at the stars. He suddenly remembered the memories shown in the legacy and motivation arose, he wanted to reach those stars. Walk among them like those beings in the memories. He looked at the stars for a while and sighed, they were beautiful but farther than he would be able to reach for a long time, if they were real at all.
Leaving behind the sky full of gems, he returned to his room and sat on the rug. The silver light from the moon was still illuminating the room. Although it may be a little dark for mortals, it was clear as day for cultivators. He now knew what his long term goal would be. He will aim for the stars. Although he was disappointed that the stars he had seen from the Earth were nowhere to be seen he knew he would get the answers when he became strong enough. He sat cross-legged and tried to clear his mind. He had seen so much in the sky so it took him some time to empty his mind. After half an hour he started cultivating. When Amrit opened his eyes it was already morning and the sun had started rising. The contrast between day and night was vastly different. As a little of purple began to show from the east Amrit stood up and stretched his body.
He had cultivated for almost the whole night. When the sun rays stained with a little purple color hit his body, he felt a little bit of yang attribute within the rays. This yang attribute was equal to the yin attribute from the moon, almost like it was measured. He just shook his head and went to the stairs. Although it was still early, either his mother or his grandmother were usually in the kitchen preparing breakfast but today there was nobody there. He looked at the empty kitchen and waiting room and decided to go outside to freshen up.
There was a shower inside but he felt like swimming in the pond. He used to swim there all the time when he was a kid. He would jump in the water and chase those spirit fishes. Although there were some lotuses, they were strong and wouldn’t break when he jumped above them. He subconsciously smiled and reached the edge of the pond. The water was clear with few ripples here and there. On the far side, there was a reflection of the spirit tree. Removing his clothes except for underwear, he put them aside on the grass and looked at the pond. He leaned over and then saw his reflection.
