The House at the Edge

Chapter 13: Blurred Past

In the flood of memories, I saw a snapshot of my biological mother walking with a man, the two of them chatting happily. He had a confident and authoritative gait that betrayed a strong personality and a certain level of control over the situation.

The man had a strong and powerful frame, his broad shoulders and commanding presence dominating the space around him. His facial features were strong and confident, with a sharp jawline and deep-set eyes that seemed almost predatory.

As the memory continued, I could see the bond between my mother and this man, their easy and open communication suggesting a close and intimate relationship between them. I could see the man and my mother walking together, their body language : they looked relaxed and at ease in each other's presence, chatting and laughing softly together.

As the memory played out, I relived a feeling that I hadn't experienced in such a long time - happiness. My biological parents were expecting a new addition to the family, and both of them showered me with unconditional love and affection.

Watching the scene unfold, I could see the love and contentment radiating from my parents. They interacted positively with each other, their surroundings exuding a sense of security and comfort. The man was a warm and gentle presence, filling the memory with a sense of peace and stability.

The memory shifted, and the warm and happy surroundings of the previous memory gave way to something far more sinister. The man in the memory began to change, becoming abusive and distant. He stopped coming home, leaving our family broken.

The contrast between the happy, loving memories and the stark reality of abandonment and abuse was stark and jarring. I was young and couldn't understand the complexities of what was happening, but I could feel the pain and confusion that came with it.

The memory continued to play out, and I recalled the promise my mother made to take me to an amusement park, an event that filled me with excitement and joy. But on the day we were supposed to go, the man suddenly reappeared and hugged us tightly.

I watched as the man and my mother began discussing something, their voices hushed and low. My mother's expression was hard to read, her face a mix of emotions that I couldn't fully understand at the time.

The memory continued, and I was instructed to wait for my parents in the street as they assured me that everything would be fine.

" I waited and waited for an hour, then turned into three, hours more BUT they never returned."

I had trusted them implicitly, but they failed to come back to me. The sense of abandonment and betrayal weighed heavily on my young heart.

The memory took a jarring turn, and I lost consciousness, only waking up later in the police station. I was disoriented and confused, but the police began asking me questions about what had happened.

The memory was hazy and disjointed, but I recalled something significant - seeing my mother leaving me on the street with a man who looked like my current adoptive father, but younger. The situation was confusing and unsettling, and I struggled to make sense of why my memory of it was so fragmented.

After that, everything became blur again....

Then, the dreams about that girl who crawling out of the well and the one who take Alice appear but the vision but this time the imagery was sharper and more defined. different when i was dreaming previously which more fragmented and disjointed.

The details in the vision became sharper and more distinct, allowing me to make out the women and man's face standing in the background. The image was still hazy and dream-like, but I could perceive their features more clearly.

I could feel the colour drain from my face as I realised with a sickening shock that the man behind the girl was my father, with an unknown woman standing next to him.. "

As I saw my father with another woman in the strange dream-like vision, my mind raced to make sense of it. I wondered if it was his previous wife that mother talked about, but there was a layer of mystery surrounding the whole situation.

Confusion mixed with the shock, creating a tangled web of emotions. I desperately wanted answers, but the fragmented memories only led to more questions.

The women in that dream appears beautiful. Blond hair and pale white skin but also has a look of despair and fear on her face. Despite her beauty, there is a clear sense of sorrow and distress in her expression. She seems to be going through a difficult time, causing me to feel a sense of sadness and concern for her well-being.

And that girl's face in the dream is similar to the women's face, with noticeable similarities in facial features. However, unlike the women, the child's expression is one of sadness rather than despair. Her eyes are red and swollen from crying, and her face is marked with grief and distress. Despite her young age, there is an air of vulnerability and sadness that makes her appearance particularly heart-wrenching. The sight of the child's sorrowful face creates a sense of empathy and concern in me, especially given its resemblance to the sad women.

I woke up....
