The Heroines Want to Confess

Chapter 23: Club Recruitment Day

Tuesday—Club Recruitment Day.

As a proud believer in the "Go-Home Club", Sakurai Saku had zero interest in betraying his faith and joining any of the school's organizations.

At Shuchiin Academy, clubs were generally divided into two categories:

Sports Clubs: Football Club, Kendo Club, and even the Archery Club, which boasted a certain Shinomiya Kaguya as a member.

Cultural Clubs: The Supernatural Research Society, the Literature Club, and the Board Game Club, where Fujiwara Chika was an active participant.

If one were to categorize Shuchiin students based on their club affiliations, they would form a clear hierarchy:

At the top of the pyramid—Sports Clubs.

In the middle—Cultural Clubs.

And at the very bottom—Go-Home Club members, the students who didn't join any club and went home immediately after school.

This was the unspoken hierarchy of Shuchiin.

Of course, Student Council members were somewhat exempt from these classifications.

Morning: The School Gate Incident

Pushing his bicycle along the pedestrian path near the school entrance, Sakurai suddenly sneezed.

Hay fever—a seasonal affliction that plagued nearly 40% of Japan's population every year.

Even Espers weren't immune to pollen allergies.A ridiculous weakness, if he was being honest.

At the school gates, a familiar voice rang out—

"Hey! Put on your uniform properly! And that skirt—did you roll it up?!"

Sakurai turned his head toward the source of the voice.

There stood Iino Miko, scolding a blonde girl who was dressed like a gal.

—Hayasaka Ai had been caught.

So much for being a master of disguise.

"You've done this before, Hayasaka-senpai! Last time, you managed to escape me, but not today!"

Miko's voice carried a sense of righteous fury.

She had been fooled once, and she wouldn't let it happen again.

The last time, Hayasaka had vanished into thin air, leaving Miko with a stain on her perfect disciplinary record.

But this time—she wouldn't get away!

At that moment, Sakurai approached, parking his bicycle and raising his hand.

"Yo, Ai-chan~"

He high-fived Hayasaka casually, then turned his attention to Iino.

"Hmm? Oh, if it isn't the Disciplinary Committee's little enforcer?"

Miko's expression stiffened.

"YOU TWO…?!"

Her worst nightmares had come true.

Two of the biggest troublemakers in Shuchiin… TOGETHER?!

Was today the end of the world?!

Sakurai suddenly pretended to have an epiphany.

He searched through his bag, pulling out a Umaibo snack stick and offering it to her.

Miko narrowed her eyes.

"Sakurai-senpai… Are you trying to bribe me again?!"

"Nope." Sakurai shook his head seriously, placing the Umaibo in her hand.

"Just a senior showing some concern for his adorable junior. You come to school so early every day—I figured you probably skipped breakfast."

Miko looked at the snack suspiciously, then hesitated before muttering—

"I… I already ate breakfast. But… Thanks, I guess."

Right as she finished speaking, she turned her head toward another student.

"Hey! Fix your collar!"

While she was distracted—

Hayasaka had vanished.

"Wait—WHERE'S HAYASAKA-SENPAI?!"

Miko frantically searched the area.

She turned back to Sakurai.

"Sakurai-senpai! Did you see where she went?!"

Sakurai rubbed his temples, pretending to think deeply before responding—

"She probably fell into the deep abyss of love."

"What does that even mean?!"

Miko looked like she was about to argue, but then paused mid-sentence.

She had just noticed something—

Sakurai was actually wearing his uniform correctly today.

His shirt was buttoned up properly, his tie was neat, and there wasn't a single wrinkle on his clothes.

Miko narrowed her eyes.

"You… Actually dressed properly today?"

"Yup."

Sakurai gave her an innocent smile.

"Anything else you'd like to say, Miko-chan?"

"…Miko-chan?"

Miko repeated the name, stunned.

"It's a nickname."

Sakurai stated casually.

Was this guy some kind of pervert?

Who gives someone a nickname after only meeting them twice?!

Still—

She had to admit…

For once, he had followed the dress code perfectly.

Even she couldn't find a single violation.

Miko let out a frustrated sigh.

"…Fine."

At that moment, Sakurai glanced toward the bicycle parking area.

Hayasaka Ai was standing there, waving at him.

Sakurai smirked.

She escaped again.

He turned back to Miko—

"Alright then, Miko-chan, I'll be off."

"Goodbye, Sakurai-senpai."

Miko sighed, then immediately resumed patrolling for rule-breakers.

Sakurai chuckled to himself.

She was way too hardworking.

A complete opposite of his lazy ass.

Bicycle Parking Area

Sakurai parked his bike next to Hayasaka.

"Ai-chan, what happened last night? You ditched me."

At the mention of last night, Hayasaka's expression twitched.

What had she been doing?

Helping Kaguya-sama with her emergency sex education lesson.

Just thinking about it made her face heat up.

Sakurai watched her reaction carefully.

Was she doing something shady last night?

Lately, more and more high school girls were resorting to "compensated dating" to make money.

"Ai-chan, take care of yourself."

Sakurai said seriously.

"Sakurai, you take care too."

Hayasaka rolled her eyes.

"Wouldn't want your 'Rent-A-Girlfriend' job to drain you dry."

"Actually, I didn't work as a rental boyfriend yesterday—I was tutoring."

"Oh, the five sisters?"

Hayasaka grinned mischievously.

"Lucky you, Saku-chan~"

"I hope you don't run into any 'lucky pervert' moments~"

Sakurai snorted.

Did she really think he'd end up in some stereotypical anime harem scenario where he'd walk in on one of them bathing?

As if.

"Those five sisters? Please."

Sakurai scoffed.

"I doubt any tutor in the world could put up with them."

Hayasaka laughed.

"No doubt about that."

After all—

She knew everything about them.

Their favorite foods, colors, hobbies—

And most importantly—

They were completely harmless.

There was zero chance that Sakurai would ever fall for one of them.

And if they did try to get close—

She and Fujiwara Chika had already staked their claim.

At least, that's what she believed.

But still—

Sakurai had never once told her his true feelings.

Did he… like someone?

And if so—

Was it her?
