Toriko (トリコ) is a renowned, incredibly strong and skilled Gourmet Hunter and the titular main protagonist of the Toriko anime and manga series. He is one of the "Four Heavenly Kings," nicknamed "The Glutton" for his abnormally large appetite (as a food serving for 500 people could only get him 1/10 full), with his skill has allowed him to discover roughly 2% of the approximately 300,000 varieties of known ingredients worldwide, which is around 6000 varieties. Toriko is also notable for having a close connection, partnership and affiliation with many of the world's most influential individuals, such as being the combo partner of chef Komatsu (one of the top 100 chefs in the world), the adopted son and apprentice of IGO President Ichiryu (alongside the other Four Heavenly Kings), the husband of Gourmet Research Chief Rin (one of the IGO's highest-ranking officials), the adoptive father figure of a Battle Wolf named Terry Cloth (making him the only human known to have ever tamed a Battle Wolf), and is a close ally and friend of the leaders of both the Gourmet Knights (a noble order of Gourmet Hunters) and the Gourmet Yakuza (one of the world's most notable criminal organizations).

He is currently seeking the fabled holy ingredient GOD from Acacia's Full Course Menu, the reputedly greatest main dish in the world, and hopes to add it to his own Full Course Menu while also preventing it from falling into the wrong hands, despite this ingredient being sought after by the brutal criminal organization Gourmet Corp. and many other powerful figures.

While a powerful warrior in his own right, Toriko's recent endeavors have been mainly focused on entering the vicious Gourmet World. He has been vigorously training in order to enter and survive in its harsh environment and has also learned of the existence of many powerful warriors already capable of entering it. Currently, he's aiming to reach the great ingredient, GOD, that all of them enter Gourmet World to seek before it falls into the wrong hands.

Toriko is an extremely muscular and exceptionally tall 25-year-old man with somewhat messy blue neck-length hair. He has three scars running from his left ear to just under his left eye which he was born with. He has strong, angular facial features and somewhat catlike eyes.

When meeting the national treasure Setsuno, she made Toriko use Knocking Master Jiro's hairstyle if he wanted to eat the Century Soup.

Toriko is often seen wearing a tight muscle orange spandex jumpsuit consisting of tight spandex orange cargo pants with pockets on the legs, dark blue knee-high boots, a black belt, a thin tight muscle black t-shirt with a tight muscle orange sleeveless vest both tucked in, and a red armband on his left arm. Other times (mostly at his home) he is seen wearing a simple thin tight muscle short-sleeve white sleeveless t-shirt tucked in his short orange pants with sandals. When enraged, Toriko's appearance becomes more animalistic and vicious. His canine teeth appear longer and sharper, his eyes become blurry, his face gets tighter, his veins bulge and twitch, and his muscles expand and tighten up more than usual. When going out to eat at formal restaurants, Toriko dons on a tuxedo and combs his hair, giving him a more refined appearance.

During Melk Stardust Arc, he wore a slightly different jumpsuit with ripped edges on the shoulders and on the undershirt. It had two gold studs on each shoulder strap and the collar is much larger than on the previous suit. The trouser now has two pockets on each leg and on his left arm, he wears a very large red armband which covers most of his arm and also the suit is much shinier.

During his journey through the Sand Garden, Toriko wore white middle eastern-like desert clothes to protect himself against the sun, which included a beige turban and a cape.

After the time skip, no major changes occurred with Toriko's appearance. During AIR Arc, when Toriko's Blue Demon came out of his body, Toriko's scars on his left cheek slightly became longer and his hair temporarily returned to its original black color until the Blue Demon went into his body again.

Appetite Demons

Toriko with his Red and Blue Demons.

Toriko possesses at least three Appetite Demons, one red and blue, who are sentient manifestations of his appetite and red and blue Gourmet Cells. These two beings are simply referred to as the "Ogre" and the "Blue Demon" and have distinct appearances and personalities from that of their host and themselves. The Red Demon resembles a more ferocious version of Toriko, and also resembles something akin to a male Hannya-like demon with dark red skin and white hair, while Toriko's Blue Demon resembles a more sinister version of himself with dark blue skin, black markings and a few spikes and horns on its body. The Blue Demon also has blue hair exactly like Toriko's and it is the cause of Toriko's unique hair color.

Furthermore, a third demon resides within Toriko. This demon has only been directly acknowledged by the Red and Blue Demon once but has been shown thrice so far, once dining alongside the two on what appears to be a form of ancient Ark which Komatsu came across while delirious in the soul world and once when Guinness sniffed Toriko. The third time when the two others were discussing him after the Golden Can is opened in Area 2.

In the first instance, the third demon was shown to be pale, with black hair tied back in a ponytail and wings. He is large and muscular like the other two demons and wears black shorts. When sensed within Toriko by Guinness only his legs were shown, as he was standing beside the other two demons.

According to the other two demons, the original gourmet cell demon inside Toriko was the pale one, who shares Torikos' characteristic 3 scars on the left side of his face. Indeed it would seem that Toriko seems to have gained this physical trait from the demon, much like how he gained blue hair from the Blue Demon.

When the third demon wakes up the Blue Demon mentions to him that he should be careful, as Toriko's body was still not strong enough to survive him for even a second. This would put the third demon as the strongest of all by far, as Toriko could manage the Blue Demon for several attacks against Heracles even before he had ever eaten a single one of Acacia's dishes.

During the God Arc, as Acacia is keeping a hold of Toriko, the Heavenly King grips onto Acacia's hand, Acacia looks to Toriko and sees the presence of another Appetite Demon within Toriko and became frightful of the third Demon lurking in him, causing Acacia to throw Toriko away.

Personality

An example of Toriko's gluttonous personality.

Toriko overflows with rugged manliness, a heavy eater and show-off drinker. He displays a wild sense of enthusiasm only towards what interests him and rarely towards what interests others. He can also be called relentlessly cheerful. Many define him as a glutton. He also has an obsession with perfection when it comes to the food he serves. Despite having a huge appetite and massive power, Toriko makes it a rule not to indiscriminately kill and eat any animal; he only kills what that he decides to eat and will often opt to use Knocking, Intimidation or other means of repelling animals he does not intend on eating. He has a highly advanced sense of smell and a high level of knowledge about many different species of life, their behavior, and habitats, as well as knowledge on other important fields that may prove useful in the wild or while hunting. He has a very selfless philosophy and ideals, showing that he is a very intelligent and wise individual.

Despite his gluttony, Toriko is an incredibly charitable and selfless individual.

Toriko believes that no species of life, regardless of its existence, should be brought to extinction, as shown when he takes only a single Rainbow Fruit from the 8th Biotope's garden so as to not endanger the Troll Kongs way of life, as well as his disapproval of Zebra's behavior of hunting multiple species to extinction. His general behavior with other people is friendly and charismatic. Yet at the same time, in the heat of battle, he is capable of displaying a wild, animal-like aggression to the point of manifesting his killing intent as an illusionary Hannya-like demon. He is extremely brave and rarely shows any signs of fear. Toriko's dream is to create the perfect Full Course Menu with only the best ingredients comprising it. His skills as a Gourmet Hunter have helped him capture many high-class ingredients but he has yet to find (and taste) enough ingredients he can deem worthy enough to be placed in and complete his Full Course Menu, stating that there are still many ingredients in the world that he has yet to taste. He intends to find GOD, the greatest ingredient of the world and is reserving a place for it in his menu as the main dish. Despite being a hunter, Toriko is a caring, compassionate person.

When in battle, Toriko is known to become incredibly feral.

He is quite protective of his two main partners, Komatsu, and Terry. He is very particular about the foods in his Full Course Menu, wanting it to be the best, he picks only the rarest, most delicious foods he discovers to serve in his meal. He also puts much faith in his partners, believing that Terry can surpass his own strength when she needs to. He also puts his faith in Komatsu's cooking abilities, allowing Komatsu to have the last drop of the Century Soup, believing that Komatsu will be able to replicate the recipe. After forming a Combo with Komatsu, Toriko has decided to pick those ingredients for his Full Course Menu that accept both him and his partner.

Toriko also seems to enjoy testing his strength, such as when he destroyed a gigantic boulder to test the strength of his Nail Punch and when he got excited at the idea of fighting Tommyrod, a Gourmet Corp. Sous Chef, as it was his first opportunity to fight a Sous Chef who would use his full strength. He has also recently stated the desire to fight the beast that possesses the Capture Level of 100.

Full Course Menu

Toriko seeks to create the ultimate Full Course Menu and only chooses what he considers to be the best of the best ingredients and is always careful about what foods he'll add to his menu. His desired Main Dish is Gourmet God Acacia's Main Dish, the ultimate ingredient in the world, one that is sought after by the most powerful men in the world: GOD.

When Toriko's Full Course Menu is finally cooked, Komatsu supplemented the menu with various foods from their journey and it is declared Toriko's and Komatsu's Full Course.

Appearances in other MediaToriko Oneshot 2002

Toriko made his first original appearance in the pilot for the Toriko manga Oneshot 2002 which was released on January 23rd, 2002. In it, Toriko is a pro-Gourmet Hunter (much like in the current story) who has been hired by Komatsu to help capture the fearsome Baron Bison. During his fight with the Baron Bison, this vicious beast managed to give Toriko his three distinctive scars with its whip-like tail. The plot of Oneshot 2002 greatly mirrors that of the Galala Gator Arc and may have inspired said arc.

Toriko Oneshot 2007

In Oneshot 2007 the second pilot chapter, Toriko is an experienced gourmet hunter traveling the world with his friend and steed Terry Cloth. In the story, he is sought out by a young man named Komatsu who comes from a small village that was recently attacked by the bird beast Gerold and he seeks to hire Toriko to slay the beast. Toriko agrees to the request in order to taste Gerold's exquisite meat and both then set off for Gerold's location. After finally finding the beast, Toriko is able to deal with it but soon realizes that the Gerold was forced out of its habitat by a stronger creature, the Mammoth Bear. Toriko then seeks it out before it destroys the local region and to also be able to get a chance to eat it himself. Toriko, Komatsu, and Terry then set off for the Mammoth Bear's location but are eventually overrun by a large horde of beasts. Terry faces off against all the beasts in order to give Toriko and Komatsu an opportunity to reach the Mammoth Bear's nest. When they finally reach it they are faced with its intimidating and giant presence which leaves Komatsu horrified and Toriko eager for a fight. After a brutal battle, Toriko is able to defeat the Mammoth Bear and by doing saves Komatsu's village. After a heavily wounded Terry returns, Toriko and Komatsu part ways with plenty of food in hand and Toriko sets off to seek out new adventures.

Toriko Jump Special

The Toriko Jump Special was an OVA animated for Shonen Jump's 2009 anime tour and it was the first time Toriko was seen in an animated format. The OVA is an animated adaptation of the Galala Gator Arc which stays mostly faithful to the manga until the near end where the fight between Toriko and the Galala Gator is extended and it becomes more graphic and violent and ending with Toriko using a Nail Punch on the Galala Gator, blowing it to bloody bits.

Toriko 3D Movie

In Toriko's first film Toriko 3D Movie: Kaimaku! Gourmet Adventure!!, which takes place sometime before the events of the manga and anime (and is based mostly on the events of Oneshot 2007), Toriko is still keeping a low profile whilst exploring the world for ingredients. During the story, he is confronted by a young boy named Peck who pleads Toriko to help him save his village from the fierce bird-beast, Gerold.

One Piece x Toriko CrossoverMangaAnimeToriko: Gourmet Academy

In the manga spin-off Toriko: Gourmet Academy, a younger version of Toriko appears as a student at Gourmet Academy who is as much of a glutton as ever and is best friends with fellow student Komatsu.

Toriko: Gourmet Survival

In his video game debut Toriko: Gourmet Survival, Toriko, along with Komatsu, Coco and Sunny are hired by the wealthy millionaire Fond De Bohno to capture ingredients for him on the dangerous Megamori Island.

Toriko: Gourmet Survival 2

In Toriko: Gourmet Survival 2, Toriko and Komatsu are once again hired by Fond De Bohno to help him capture ingredients in the even more fearsome region of Gattsuki Continent, where beasts from around the world and all capture levels reside.

Toriko: Gourmet Monsters

In Toriko: Gourmet Monsters, Toriko and Komatsu take part in the Gourmet Royale beast bouts and visits several locations around the world looking for the strongest beasts they can find and tame for the bouts. Along the way, a legendary species of beast that once almost destroyed the planet's ecosystem in ancient times has somehow been revived and Toriko and the other Four Heavenly Kings are called in to deal with the reborn Death Gores.

Quotes"There's no time like the present, and any time afterwards is the wrong time.""If I don't want to eat it, I will not kill it. If I kill it, I will eat it! That's my rule!"Anime and Manga DifferencesDuring his introduction in the Jump Festa OVA, Toriko's shirt was white, while in the manga it is orange (this can be clearly seen in the colored cover of chapter 6, where Toriko's first outfit is displayed).Toriko's outfit changes many times during the different story arcs, something that the anime does not show up so often, especially during the first arcs. All instances of Toriko's bleeding were removed in the anime due to its target audience being much younger than the manga's. In the anime, Toriko's battle with Tommyrod during the Century Soup Arc is also severely toned down, with all instances of blood removed. Instead, it is explained that Toriko's blood freezes before he is able to bleed. Also of note is that all references to Toriko being a smoker and his liking for Cigar Trees are completely removed in the anime. This is also true for several other characters who are smokers.Trivia

When he is fighting creatures, he would never feel an emotion like anger. Generally, Toriko only feels gratitude toward his food."Toriko's clothes bear a striking resemblance to those worn by Son Goku, the main protagonist of the Dragon Ball franchise, and Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star franchise. Gourmet Hunters (美食屋 Bishoku-ya, literally meaning "Gourmet Food Providers") are specialized in the acquisition of High-Level Ingredients.

Due to the difficulties inherent in securing certain ingredients, many have trained their abilities to superhuman levels, some of them even possessing Gourmet Cells to do so. Be it unusual displays of strength, phenomenal speed, or unrivaled endurance, these hunters are known for their capacity to surpass any normal, armed human being. While brute force may be the status quo, there are some known for using Knocking and other peaceful methods of collecting their quarry. Many gourmet hunters have artificial immunities to poisons by injecting themselves with a solution made from poisonous plants and animal venom over a period of time: this creates various antibodies.

Most of these individuals are generally for hire, taking varying fees in exchange for the retrieval of ingredients that would be inaccessible to the contractor under common circumstances. Many of the world's most notable and influential individuals are or were Gourmet Hunters during their life.

To prove their worth, Gourmet Hunters tend to create Full Course Menu's made up of Ingredients they've hunted, so that clients can see how good they are, though this isn't compulsory. The higher the quality of the Gourmet Hunter's Full Course, the stronger the Gourmet Hunter in question. Gourmet Hunters tend to do their jobs solo, though there are some exceptions. Sometimes groups are formed, though this does not necessarily mean that they work as a team. This also might attract Chefs to which the Gourmet Hunter can form combo's with.

Human World9Sign in to edit

World Map, with the Human World (center) and Gourmet World (surrounding).

The Human World (人にん間げん界かい Ningen-kai) is the name given to the region that makes up only 30% of the Earth's surface and it is where the Human race resides. The other 70% is known as the Gourmet World, a vast and dangerous realm where no regular human would dare tread. The Human World also has a population of around 31.2 billion people.

The Human World suffered catastrophic losses and severe change after being attacked by the Gourmet Corp. Boss Midora, who unleashed a horrific attack dubbed Meteor Spice upon the Human World, resulting in severe environmental and economic losses and turning over 80% of the Human population into victims (luckily the loss of Human life was kept to a minimum). Nonetheless, this basically resulted in a brief end to the Gourmet Age which brought about a depression that would last for a year and a half. However the famine was eased singlehandedly due to the efforts of Toriko and Komatsu, the former who literally rained down a Rain of Food across the entirety of the Human World and the Gourmet Age was soon after restored after the mass circulation of the revived Billion Bird ensured a stable distribution of food for all, which has given Saiseiyas the opportunity and the resources to begin reviving many of the lost resources and lifeforms of the Human World.

Gourmet Town, the once great symbol of the Human World's great love for food.

The Human World's countries and culture are somewhat similar to those of Earth in terms of society and structure, however the world completely revolves around food, with cities and countries having mostly restaurants and rare Ingredients as their primary source of income and even food-themed architecture is quite prevalent, with the most notable food-themed city being Gourmet Town, which is the largest city in the Human World. It appears that the people of the Human World primarily use a mixture of the real world English and Japanese language or both as their standard written language, which is evident in their documents and signs; their culture and architecture is also much like modern western society in the real world but with some obvious oriental influences.

Food is viewed as important and sacred in human religions and philosophies, with even temples established for the worship of food and for revering the "Gourmet God" Acacia.

After the fall of the Meteor Spice, many countries received serious damage and many of the once great gourmet-themed landmarks and cities have fallen to rubble, including Gourmet Town the once glorious symbol of the Gourmet Age. Luckily, with the revival and distribution of the Billion Bird, and the following slow revival of resources by the saiseiyas, the Gourmet Age's former cultural glory is slowly being restored.

Economy

"Yen" in Toriko.

In the Human World, the main form of currency is mainly referred to as "Yen" (the name of Japanese currency in the real world) and functions much like real yen does. The only difference is that all currency has food imprinted on it, such as notes having a picture of "meat on the bone". Almost all gourmet ingredients and related items are incredibly expensive and some are worth more than even the most priceless gems.[1]

After the fall of the Meteor Spice, the Human World suffered severe economic losses that could not even be measured due to the loss of land and resources, creating economic disarray which resulted in an outrageous increase in price of even the most simplest of ingredients. This severe economic depression would last for almost a year and a half.

When the mass distribution of Billion Birds resulted in a stable distribution of ingredients and the reopening of many restaurants and food establishments, economic stability began to be be restored once more. Thus ending the economic depression.

Government

The logo of the IGO, the most influential organization in the world.

The Human World has numerous monarchs and political figures which reign over different countries in the Human World and most of the countries are part of the United Nations (much like in the real world), however the primary power of the world appears to be the global organization, the IGO. The IGO is mainly responsible for the mass production of most of the world's ingredients, keeping civilians safe from dangerous beasts, and farming rare and dangerous plants and beasts in their Biotopes in order to produce and improve ingredients. Because of their importance to the Gourmet Age, the IGO is viewed highly in the world and appears to hold even more power and influence than the United Nations, having a total of 360 nations as members (far exceeding the United Nations member nations).[2] However not all countries are affiliated with the IGO, a notable example being the crime infested kingdom of Jidal. Countries that are too poor to pay the Gourmet Tax are also unable to become members of the IGO, however the IGO annually offers them a stable supply of ingredients around Christmas.

The Human World also has a strict set of laws known as the "Eight Gourmet Laws" which were designated by the IGO, as such even the theft of food or performing any food-related crime is considered a terrible act, and the punishment for doing so will result in the accused being sent to one of the Three Great Gourmet Prisons.

During the invasion by the Gourmet Corp., many of the IGO directors were murdered by former IGO director Uumen Umeda who along with Vice-President Shigematsu was secretly a member of the sinister organization NEO and President Ichiryuu died after receiving a fatal blow from a Blue Nitro, leaving the organization with serious losses. This only grew worse after the fall of the Meteor Spice which caused great damage to the IGO Headquarters and many countries around the world, leaving governments everywhere in distress as they try to sort out the severe losses worldwide. Eventually, to ensure the continued stability of the IGO, quick action was taken and director Mansam was promoted to the position of president of the IGO while his assistant Rin was made the new director of development, and under their management the IGO was able to remain stable and maintain order until Toriko's return. Upon his return, the IGO was able to begin handing out more resources to saiseiyas to begin their revival projects which thankfully ensured the world's continued faith in the IGO.

GeographyGourmet AgeTerrain

The Heavy Drinker Archipelago, a paradise of alcoholic ingredients and liquors.

While some parts of the Human World's terrain is similar to Earth, there are regions which are extremely dangerous and appear to border on the impossible by our world's standards. Such examples would include the extraordinarily cold and deadly continent of Ice Hell, the massive vegetable garden growing in the clouds known as Vegetable Sky, the nearly bottomless canyon known as Heavy Hole which is known for its intense level of gravity and most notably the numerous locations around the world which are in actuality ingredients themselves, such as the edible Gourmet Deserts of Sand Garden, the carbonated Cola Sea and the frozen and tasty mountain range of Ice Cream Mountain. It should also be noted that the Human World alone (not counting Gourmet World) is vastly larger than Earth, even having continents that are twice the size of Eurasia and these make up only less than 10% of the planet's surface area.

Flora and Fauna

A Troll Kong, an example of the dangerous fauna residing in the Human World.

The flora and fauna of the Human World is definitely far from similar to those of Earth as large and powerful beasts are known to inhabit different parts of the Human World, even some plants are known to be carnivorous and posses abilities and features that makes them seem more like animals, however these creatures, despite their impressive strength, are far from being anywhere near as strong as the creatures of Gourmet World which are known to be horrifyingly powerful. The strongest creature in the Human World has a capture level of 100, and is used as a benchmark for other Capture Levels. Although not all the creatures and plants of the Human World are known to be vicious as there are some that posses unique and sometimes helpful abilities which can even aid the sickly, such as the animals from the country of Life.

Over time, the Human World's flora and fauna have slowly shifted in terms of Capture Level, this shift is due to the mass number of creatures that originated from the Gourmet World being pushed towards the Human World in order to ensure their survival and escape both the harsh climates and fierce predators of the Gourmet World who have become more dangerous with the approaching "Night" event in which the Eight Kings become more active which spurs the rest of Gourmet World to become more harsh. This change was first notified by Guemon who guards one of the Gourmet World entrances, the Three Way Road, from dangerous beasts that attempt to enter the Human World. This is then again noted by Komatsu just before he, along with the Heavenly Kings riding the Octomelon, enter the Thorn Sea. The first beast they encounter near the Thorn Sea was of a hefty Capture Level of 299, nearing the Four Beast's Capture Level.

Post-Meteor Spice

A lifeless wasteland after the fall of the Meteor Spice.

After the fall of the Meteor Spice, several of the natural environments within the Human World and the creatures that once dotted the landscape have apparently been annihilated, leaving vast lifeless wastelands where they once were. These environmental losses are only worsened due to the previous attack by the Four Beasts which destroyed many regions and habitats during their attack. This has resulted in severe food shortages unlike any seen since the Gourmet War.

Restoration

However, upon returning from the Gourmet World, Toriko and Komatsu started to alleviate the famine and devastation with the tremendous bounty that they had caught within the Gourmet World and their subsequent revival of the Billion Bird, which resulted in enough resources for all of humanity. This restoration of a stable food resource also gave the saiseiyas the time and resources needed to begin restoring the land to its former glory.

Coco's Theory

The meteor that changed the world according to Coco's theory.

From Coco's findings after the Meteor Spice incident, it is implied that the Human World is in fact the remnants of a planet that looked similar to real-world Earth (although with somewhat differently shaped continents) which was hit by a meteorite made of a parasitic mineral that was capable of growing by absorbing its surrounding energy.

Coco believes that the meteorite embedded itself in the core of the Earth-like planet and, over several hundred million years, grew out enveloping much of the planet's surface and drastically increasing the size of the planet. The areas covered became the Gourmet World and the original planet became the Human World. This also resulted in an explosion in the variety of creatures and ingredients in the Gourmet World, beginning the new world's Cambrian Period.

Central Human World, believed to be the remains of the old world.

All that remained of the original planet is the central area of the Human World whose continents appear to be the same ones the original planet possessed long ago, indicating that this section of the planet was pushed away from the center and forced back on to the new surface of the planet and into its own small section during the planet's formation and growth in which the mass of the meteor began encroaching upon everything. If you look closely at Central Human World, it essentially looks like our Earth with a higher sea level that has been split along the Atlantic Ocean as the Bedrock Material from the meteorite grew larger than the planet itself. However, even Coco himself is not too sure about the validity of this theory and still considers it mostly conjecture on his part.[3]

The Gourmet World (グルメ界かい Gurume-kai) is the name given to a region consisting of over 70% of the Earth. In contrast to its relatively hospitable counterpart, the smaller Human World, the Gourmet World exclusively consists of extremely dangerous environments that most humans cannot occupy.

In the Gourmet World there are eight incredibly strong beasts whose ancestors have ruled since ancient times, surviving through countless mass extinction events and are considered a force of nature themselves, gaining supremacy over members of their species as well as others. They are known as the Eight Kings who rule over the eight areas of the Gourmet World. The Gourmet World enters 'Night' when every single member of the Eight Kings become active, which causes the wild beasts to become stronger and the environment to become harsher. Depending on their personalities, these beasts may or may not take an active role in ruling their respective areas, but those that do are quite ferocious when their domain is threatened in some way. Some kings, may not take an active role in ruling their area but may let other strong beasts act as leaders of parts of an area as shown with the hierarchy of Area 7.

Gourmet Nobles (not to be confused with Acacia's Full Course Menu)

However these creatures did not always rule Gourmet World, with it and the rest of the planet having once been under the brutal rule of the Gourmet Nobility who enslaved and made cattle out of humans and made lesser members of their own kind into lobotomized slaves. At some point, they lost influence over the world to the Eight Kings and have done all in their power to try and bring the kings to extinction.

Geography

The regions outside the rectangular boundary line represent the Gourmet World.

The Gourmet World is home to the harshest environments and weather conditions on the planet, with extreme climates that change suddenly and can differ greatly within just feet of each other. As a result, only a relative handful of human individuals in the entire world are powerful enough to survive there. The only organizations known to be headquartered in the Gourmet World are the mighty criminal enterprise called the Gourmet Corp., and the IGO President's secret elite force of hand-picked civilians, the 0th Biotope.

Areas

The Gourmet World is primarily divided into eight large areas made up of giant landmasses and islands and each of these areas is ruled by one of the mighty Eight Kings. Each of these areas also holds a special "sector" and each one is actually the location of the ingredients in Acacia's Full Course Menu.

Some continents, known as Stray Islands, float above the skies of Gourmet World and constantly wander from location to location, as such it is unknown if they are ruled by any of the Eight King and if these lands have always been up there or if they originally were located on the surface.

Land Routes

Entering the Gourmet World is a nearly impossible task whether attempted by land, sea, or air. In the sky, massive walls of impassable cyclones mark the aerial border of the Gourmet World. By sea, the deadly poisonous ocean current "Poison Tide" renders ocean travel impossible. Only the land routes are considered passable. The three land routes that connect to the Gourmet World are Zabel Island's "Waterfall Basin of Life", Yutou Island's "Harbor of Evil Spirits" and the Wak Continent's "Three Way Road". Of the three, the "Waterfall Basin of Life" is comparatively the safest.

Flora, Fauna and Ingredients

The Ingredients in the Gourmet World are vastly superior to those of the Human World, such that extremely high-level Gourmet Hunters like Jiro often have a Full Course Menu consisting exclusively of Gourmet World ingredients. The Full Course ingredients of the legendary Gourmet Hunter Acacia can only be found in the Gourmet World as well. For this reason, beasts from the Gourmet World usually do not bother venturing into the Human World as the food there is comparatively 'bad'. Gourmet World's food also contains Gourmet Cells in it.[1]

The beasts of the Gourmet World are so powerful that even massive armies and artillery barrages fail to slow them. When creatures from the Gourmet World do appear in the Human World, it is usually because they were chased out by stronger beasts, and thus most that try to enter are "small fries". The main exception is the Four Beast, a powerful creature from the Gourmet World that feeds exclusively on humans, having developed a unique 'taste' for them long ago. It awakens and migrates to the Human World every few centuries and consumes millions of humans at a time, however it does not actually eat them, instead it captures humans and brings them to its creators, the Gourmet Nobility.

List of Areas

The Gourmet World is composed of eight huge areas made up of landmasses and islands, each ruled by one of the respective Eight Kings:

Area 0 a.k.a PANGAEAArea 1 (ruled by an unnamed Derous)Area 2 a.k.a the Continent of Beginnings (ruled by Wolf King Guinness)Area 3 a.k.a the Cloud Continent (ruled by an unnamed Emperor Crow)Area 4 a.k.a the Gourmet Garden (ruled by an unnamed Mother Snake)Area 5 a.k.a. the Forest Continent (ruled by an unnamed Sky Deer)Area 6 a.k.a. the Sea Continent (ruled by Whale King Moon)Area 7 a.k.a. the Mountain Continent (ruled by Monkey King Bambina)Area 8 a.k.a. the Rain Continent (ruled by Horse King Heracles)Sectors

The Gourmet World Areas holds a special "sector" and each one is actually the location of the ingredients in Acacia's Full Course Menu. Each sector is ordered alphabetically and matches up with the order of Acacia's menu, starting from hors d'oeuvre (A) to drink (H):

Sector A: (location of CENTER - hors d'oeuvre) in Area 1Sector B: Birth Cry Tree (location of PAIR - soup dish) in Area 7Sector C: Stardust River (location of ANOTHER - fish dish) in Area 6Sector D: Food Region Forest (location of NEWS - meat dish) in Area 5Sector E: Continent of Beginnings (location of GOD - main dish) in Area 2Sector F: Slow Rain Hills (location of AIR - salad) in Area 8Sector G: Gourmet Garden (location of EARTH - dessert) in Area 4Sector H: Developmental Fever Bridge (location of ATOM - drink) in Area 3Seven Civilizations

While the Gourmet World is incredibly dangerous and humans from the Human World have never been able to settle within its lands, there actually do exist civilizations within Gourmet World known as the Seven Civilizations which were founded long ago by strange races, some of which consisted of ancient mutated humans and Nitros. These mutated humans and most of these Nitros were slaves of the Gourmet Nobles long ago and escaped and took shelter beneath the Eight Kings in hopes of creating happy and thriving societies. Many of these civilizations once thrived but some have fallen to ruin; with the three known that are still standing being the Hex Food World which has not heard from its fellow civilizations in quite a long time, Blue Grill a sea-faring civilization that is the most thriving of the Seven Civilizations, and the unknown civilization that is located in Area 4. One known civilization that has been destroyed is the Kingdom of Hope from Area 7, it was wiped out due to the machinations of the Gourmet Nobility inciting a war between the people of the Kingdom and the Monkey Restaurant.

In some civilizations such as Hex Food World, money is not a means by which trading is done. Instead a barter system is applied, where one must trade ingredients for food or supplies or any product. However civilizations may still accept yen from human visitors.

HistoryFormation

The formation of Gourmet World.

The meteor that changed the world.

Several hundred million years ago, an ancient "Demon King" set its sights upon the planet Earth and chose it as its next meal. To prepare this scrumptious planet for its consumption, it bombarded the planet with its own essence which would come to be known by its inhabitants as Gourmet Cells. The cells fell onto the planet in the form of meteorites made out of the parasitic Bedrock Mineral, and the meteorites grew by absorbing its surrounding energy while also causing massive devastation to the ancient world. Over time, it made a new mantle and crust that became many times bigger than the original planet, suddenly transforming the native creatures of the planet and unleashing a whole new generation of organisms and delicious ingredients. The new surface would end up becoming the Gourmet World and the original planet surface became the Central Human World.[2]

Mansam is a middle-aged man with chiseled features, a flat nose and is completely bald. He has two vertical scars on the left side of his head and three metal piercing on the top of it. He wears a white and gray sleeveless camo shirt (plain green in the anime) and a pair of beige shorts. His body is shown to be very muscular, maybe even more so than Toriko. When he releases his Knocking, he grows around the size of a GT Robo giant model.

As a bandit, he had long spiky hair standing upright. He wore a tattered vest and shorts with fur armbands and boots. In a flashback of when he first found Toriko as a child, he had spiky black hair.[1]

After the time-skip he has grown hair and a mustache. He also wears a more flamboyant get up, consisting of a leopard-print, brown coat with fur.

Personality"What? Did you call me handsome?!!"

—Mansam, to almost everybody.

When someone says his name he thinks they are calling him handsome; this is a pun as his name sounds similar to the English word "handsome". Others often clarify this as a misunderstanding, though he seems to be disappointed as a result, always wanting to be called handsome.

He seems to be always drunk or just in a really happy state most of the time and is called a drunkard by Toriko. Only when someone mentions a job needs doing or when he gets angry does he change to a more serious mood.

Mansam has an affectionate relation with his pet and animal partner Rikky, having given him a gigantic parfait for getting rid of the core of a GT Robo.[2][3] He has great loyalty to Ichiryu since the president chose to give Mansam a second chance by training and reforming him.

RelationshipsRikky

As Mansam's pet, Rikky seems to be very important to Mansam. He hints that Ricky saved his life when they first met, and to repay him, Mansam has taken very good care of him. He also mentions that Ricky's species is somewhat common and hopes to find him a mate soon.

Toriko

Mansam treats Toriko like an old friend and extends every hospitality toward him. Both often tend to goof around and enjoy partying together, something he has not been shown doing with Toriko's adoptive siblings. He is also the one who discovered the little orphaned Toriko along with Ichiryu when he was young and because of this he has a very close bond with him and treats him like family.

Four Heavenly Kings

His relationship with the other three Four Heavenly Kings is pretty much the same as Toriko although he does not interact or goof around with them as much as he does with Toriko. He considers them all friends and allies and also treats them like family since he helped find them with Ichiryu and is willing to help them in tight spots.

Powers and Abilities

As the IGO's former Development Bureau Director and Gourmet Research Facility Chief and current President, taking over Ichiryu's place, he is IGO's #1 person, therefore he has complete administrative control over the entirety of the IGO. He is incredibly powerful, able to take on a GT Robo easily and hold up a giant infant Regal Mammoth with only his head. He also shows no fear or discouragement in the idea of aiding the Four Heavenly Kings in fighting the dreaded Four Beast; it is also stated by Director General Uumen that if he had gone wild there, the Four Heavenly Kings would never have gotten their chance, showing that he is a man of great power and may be able to easily take on the Four Beast and enter the Gourmet World.

It is unclear if he resorts to any conventional martial art when fighting. Aside from his punches, he uses a headlock to sever the head of a Giant Model GT Robo.

Mansam has amazing strength, as he does ten thousand push-ups with a large creature on his back merely as daily training and can support a baby Regal Mammoth on his head alone with no visible strain. Even more, he manages to crush Giant Model GT Robos after releasing his Knocking. He has an incredibly high pain tolerance, able to live through being stabbed in the gut and a hole blown through his throat by a laser beam. In his unsealed form, he withstands several laser beams fired at him at once without suffering much damage. He also gets right back up when he is attacked by Shigematsu's Beast. In his youth, he was an undefeated bandit until he met the IGO president Ichiryu, who then trained him not to lose to anyone, except for the president himself.

Hunting Method

Mansam uses physical strength, which is even above Toriko's. After releasing his Knocking, it increases dramatically.[4]

Gourmet Cells

Mansam's Gourmet Cells respond best to alcohol,[5] like vodka.[6]

Appetite Demon

Mansam's Cells are host to an Appetite Demon, a giant male Asura with eight arms (instead of six), three faces, and bronze skin.[7]

Mansam projects the image of his Appetite Demon. The color of his Intimidation aura is golden yellow.

Knocking

Mansam's alternate knocking form.

Mansam can use Knocking guns on himself to release his full muscle mass. When doing so his eyes turn white, his skin becomes very dark and his upper body becomes incredibly toned and muscular and easily towers over the tall Shigematsu. During Cooking Fest, he is shown to posses an even larger form with even darker skin, a more proportionate muscular frame and he is as large or larger than the head of a Giant Model GT Robo, making him appear as a giant, and while in this form he can easily overpower an army of Giant GT Robos. It is later revealed that the Knocking is used to restrict his real power because he cannot control himself.[11] Due to him being in a constant state of Knocking, attempting the technique on him will actually cause his self-inflected Knocking to be rescinded, as demonstrated in his fight against the GT Robo.

Techniques

Frying Pan Punch (フライパンチ Furai Panchi): A pun as in Japanese pan and punch are pronounced similarly, the technique is similar to Toriko's "Fork and Knife". This is, of course, is a punch, but the arm is shaped like a frying pan. Even in Mansam's restricted state it is powerful enough to send large beasts flying.

Frying Pan Sandwich (フライパンサンドイッチ Furaipan Sandoitchi): This technique requires the use of both hands to slam into opposite sides of the opponent's head, hence the name. After he removes his Knocking, it is strong enough to crush the upper part of a GT Robo.

Wanted Punch (ウォンテッドパンチ Uonteddo Panchi): A more powerful and devastating punch, it goes straight through a Giant Model GT Robo with ease, obliterating its body completely.

HistoryRegal Mammoth Arc

Inside Biotope 1's Gourmet Research Laboratory, Mansam is doing push-ups with Rikky on his back when he is informed that Toriko has arrived.[12] When Toriko and Komatsu enter, Komatsu is attacked by a giant Muscle Crab but is saved by Mansam, who easily subdues the beast with his Fry Punch. He happily welcomes Toriko and Komatsu, and both Toriko and he exchange some friendly quips like old friends. After he shows them around the facility, he escorts them to the Gourmet Coliseum to see their latest Chain Animal.[13]

Mansam, Toriko, and Komatsu arrive at the Coliseum. Toriko asks about the Battle Wolf, while Mansam replies that he would see it soon enough. Komatsu recognizes some of the research facility visitors and asks Mansam about them, and is informed that they are all rich men (IGO V.I.P) from all over the world.[14]

He explains that they collected Battle Wolf DNA and used it to create a clone, who will be participating as the main event. The event calls for an explanation of the Battle Wolf-Death Gore event to Komatsu, and in the process, Rin calls. He scolds her for not being able to handle the Battle Fragrance machine, thus boosting the fragrance to max level. The beast does not seem to fight back, leading Toriko to think that it is a female preparing for birth, and confirming it after asking Mansam.[15]

Mansam is shocked when Toriko breaks into the stadium, as its walls are extremely durable. Toriko requests that Mansam stop the Battle Fragrance and the event, with which Mansam complies, and he asks Rin to do it. In the anime, while watching Toriko, Mansam, Komatsu, and Tina had some La France Bread to enjoy, and Mansam asked if Tina was a friend of Komatsu's. Suddenly, Toriko breaks the stadium's fortified acrylic walls with a 5-Hit Punch, breaking it into pieces, and shocking Mansam. The wolf then gives birth to a pup wolf;[16] that is when everything becomes clear for Mansam. As the attendees evacuate, Mansam has trouble dealing with the beasts that escaped, now that the walls are no more. He hits the Gerold with a Fry Punch to put it back in its place. Later, when the Devil Serpent goes wild in the coliseum, Mansam asks Komatsu if he is not gonna run, to which Komatsu replies he is not, as he is used to it. Mansam compliments his courage, and comments on how pathetic and powerless the escaping VIP attendees are, and as he is talking, notices Dohem still sitting in his place. Mansam apologizes for what happened to the event and asks that Dohem take refuge quickly, but before Mansam finishes his sentence, Dohem, a GT Robo in disguise, strikes a hole in Mansam's abdomen. Mansam sends him flying with a Fry Punch,[17] before asking Johannes to halt the laser cannons.

Mansam starts to fight the GT Robo that entered into coliseum. He converses with the GT Robo saying that he is a fool who was sent as a sample by Gourmet Corp. and he thanks the organisation for sending him such a gift (the Robo's new model). Mansam asks about his objective and operator information, and deduces it is Bei after it mentions that Mansam looks delicious.

Mansam is stabbed by a disguised Bei.

Bei attacks Mansam with a Knocking that proves useless, as Mansam's Knocking sensors are not there. After increasing in size, Mansam gives the Robo a Fry-Punch Sandwich, which also proves useless due to the Robo's sturdiness. Bei takes advantage of the opening and shoots a laser through Mansam's neck.[18] Mansam goes flying down the stadium but then stands as if nothing happened, laughing with Komatsu, as he numbed his pain sensation. He then pours vodka on his wounds, which all close. As he stands, he unleashes his Intimidation but stops when he senses that Toriko's anger is stronger than his.[19]

Mansam and Komatsu stand off to the side and watch Toriko take on the Robo.[20] After the fight ends, the Robo prepares to self destruct so Mansam calls for a laser barrage. The Robo's core antenna remains intact and escapes, dodging the lasers. However, Mansam calls for Rikky, who makes quick work of the core. Mansam suggests that he and Toriko have a meal to recover from their wounds.[21]

Mansam counterattacks.

Mansam comments on how fatal the wolf's wound is, on how Rin's fragrance is affecting the beasts, and how the wolf and its pup are enjoying a moment of peace together. After that, he explained to Komatsu everything about what a GT Robo is, and then got really angry about what happened, swearing to break the Robo into pieces, and unleashed his Intimidation. He then stopped after seeing that Toriko was more angry, and mentioned how Toriko's anger activated his Gourmet Cells, and explained to Komatsu that it's because the kill was meaningless that Toriko was this angry. Throughout the fight, Mansam gave some comments about how Toriko's arm was at its limit, and how Toriko was taking aim for a final hit. After Toriko defeated Bei, Bei tried self-destructing the Robo in him, but Mansam orders the staff to shoot their lasers, breaking the Robo to its core. He then ordered them to open the hatch to his room, where Rikky delivered a swift finishing blow at Mansam's request.

At night, Mansam invited them for a meal to his Full-Course Menu. The dishes contained different beasts and the meal filled the entire room. Komatsu saw the Bacchus Dragon, a super high class ingredient on a big plate. Toriko mentions that the beast has high quantity of alcohol that gives impression of a mellow brandy and he remarks that it is the chief's main dish. Mansam displays his Menu to everyone, and most of them contained sake.

Mansam remarks that Terry, a Battle Wolf who'd never get attached to anyone, let down its guard to Toriko, just like his Rikky did.

Toriko then remembers about the work the chief wanted him for, and asked Mansam, who had forgotten all about it, and was shocked to remember. He states that the reason the GT Robo came in the first place was to distract them from capturing the Regal Mammoth first. Rin reassures them that Sunny was on his way back, having captured the Regal Mammoth.

In the morning, and while waiting for Sunny, Toriko and Mansam had a small meal. Mansam kept eating Toriko's food while awaiting. Finally, Sunny appears, carrying the Regal Mammoth with his hair.

Sunny threw the huge Mammoth to Mansam, complimenting him for his brute strength, but dissing his ugly catch. Mansam shouted at him not to throw their Treasure Food. Mansam then tells him about Terry being Toriko's partner who'll help them capture the Mammoth. Sunny was confused as to why they're going, but Mansam tells him that what he caught was just a lost child, with the parent being their goal. While Toriko and the others went for the parent Mammoth, Mansam was on his way the the Research Lab to analyze the child; on his way, Johannes called, stating that someone has infiltrated the garden. He went back and found out 3 Robos infiltrated the Regal Plateau. Mansam was more worried about the black Robo, being the same one that appeared in the Puffer Whale cave. He thought if he would enter the Plateau too, he wouldn't make it in time, and thus it'd be better to process the Mammoth for the Jewel Meat, as Toriko and the others might need it if they went against the black Robo. He then talks about the Jewel Meat with Johannes, and says that the parent must be going crazy for its child, making it the most dangerous thing Toriko should look out for. Later, Johannes reported to him that Toriko's team has reached the Mammoth, but with heavy damage. After hours of scanning, Mansam learned that the child doesn't seem to have developed the meat yet, meaning he'll have to depend on Toriko to acquire it. Finally, after Toriko's team captured the Meat, they found the child has returned, guided by Johannes. Later that day, Shigematsu visited Mansam. Mansam asked if he'd brought Zebra with him, and Shigematsu answers that Chief Gras needs to approve.

BB Corn Arc

Mansam and Shigematsu having a drink.

Shigematsu had come to Mansam because there were Robos left in the Plateau, meaning the Gourmet Corp. would have to come and recover it, and since he doesn't know who exactly will come, needed Mansam. Mansam treated him to some Garana Eel Shochu. It turned out Grinpatch was the one sent for the Robo retrieval, and just as he arrived, found Mansam and Shigematsu in the wait. Mansam used Knocking on himself for a muscle buff, while Shigematsu removed his nose plug, again buffing himself, and mentioned how he'd thought Starjun or Tommyrod would be the ones to come, not Grinpatch. Grinpatch then ignored the Robo and left, as even he knew it'd be impossible to go up against those 2 together.

Century Soup Arc

Mansam was seen in the Gourmet Laboratory discussing the Gourmet Corp.'s new aim, the Century Soup, with Uumen. Mansam wonders if they should send the Heavenly Kings to Ice Hell too, as Toriko was already there. He was worried about whom they will send. Later, Coco is seen entering his room; Mansam mentions how Sunny doesn't respond and how they can't get Zebra out. Mansam requests that Coco go help Toriko, as Toriko'll be in danger all alone when the Gourmet Corp. goes out at full force. Uumen called again a day later, and reported to Mansam that their possibility of acquiring the soup before the Gourmet Corp. is half half. Uumen also inquired about the Heavenly Kings' movement, and Mansam told him that Coco has already started moving, but that he wasn't going straight to Toriko, but first to Setsuno.

Later, when Toriko asked Smile to build him a new house, Mansam, Sunny, Coco, and the others visited. Mansam, who was drunk as always, asked they celebrate the completion of the house. Inside the house, he first ate part of the Lotusconbu curtain, as he thought it'd go well with his alcohol, and then helped them devour the whole house. Finally, he asks Smile to do him an alcohol pool for him.

Mellow Cola Arc

Mansam and Ray arrive.

After celebrating the Mellow Cola's capture, Zebra asked Komatsu to serve them the Nitro they had killed. Mansam barged in with Ray and Rapp, saying he will take charge of the Nitro's body. When Toriko asked if they knew anything about the beast, Mansam answered that they're taking charge in order to investigate it, hiding what he already knew about it. As Zebra tried picking on Rapp, Mansam warned Zebra not to mess with Rapp, as Rapp's of Yosaku's level, Biotope 0, and then proceeded to explain about it. After that, Zebra argued that he knew Mansam was lying about not knowing anything about the beast due to Mansam's heart rate and blood pressure's sound changing when he was asked. Mansam knew there is no way around it, and explained about the Nitro. Still, Zebra knew he is hiding more, which forced Mansam to mention that the Gourmet Corp. are involved (the GT Robos resemble it) because the Nitro knew how to acquire GOD, meaning another Gourmet War might ensue.

Toriko's Break Arc

When Toriko goes with Komatsu to Bar Meria, they recall Mansam's words about the Gourmet Corp.; Mansam mentioned that famous chefs have been kidnapped recently with the increased Human World Nitro appearances, meaning Nitro's may either be stealing cooking methods, or just eating chefs. Mansam also told Komatsu not to worry, as Komatsu's still not in the top 100 in the World Chef Ranking.

Meteor Garlic Arc

Mansam and Komatsu distributing food to orphans on Christmas.

As Christmas day approached, Mansam called in the Four Heavenly Kings, along with Rin and Komatsu to help him distribute food to the orphan children of poverty-stricken nations. However Zebra did not show up, but nonetheless the delivery went accordingly and the group was able to bring joy to many lives that night.

Four Beast Arc

After the Heavenly Kings defeated the Four Beast's "Limbs," the Beast's main body is seen rising from the depths of Gourmet Town causing tremors strong enough to topple Buildings. In the midst of the chaos, Chief Mansam is seen cryptically saying, "Well, well, well, this is beyond what we expected. Maybe it is my turn to take the spotlight?". At this point of the arc Mansam's motives are unclear, due to the fact that a shadowy figure stands in the background. However, after the Four Beast's defeat, amidst the elation and euphoria of the populous of Human World, Mansam is seen relaxing at the IGO Headquarters where Director General Uumen points out that if Mansam had "gone wild" the Heavenly Kings would not have gotten their chance.

Cooking Festival Arc

Mansam protecting Cooking Fest from the Gourmet Corp.'s GT Robos.

Mansam is first seen in the Biotope 1 alongside Rin as he prepares to leave for the Cooking Festival to aid with security. He is later seen again with a large herd of Giraffebirds engineered by the IGO to act as the extra security. However as soon as they arrive on Cooking Island the Giraffebirds are attacked by the Gourmet Corp.'s giant GT Robos and seemingly decapitated, luckily they managed to regenerate their severed heads and attack the Gourmet Corp.'s army whilst Mansam prepares to fight as well. He is later seen in a larger version of his Knocking Form whilst sitting on dozens of broken giant GT Robos, and then happily taunts the remaining GT Robos and tells them to keep fighting him before he loses control of himself. In a flashback in his old days as a bandit, he was admonished by the President, in which they became great friends. He then proceeds to release his full power that has been kept sealed up in this battle. As the battle rages on, he was shockingly impaled by Shigematsu's pet. After a short while, he recalled his time as a bandit which was when he suffered his first and only defeat at the hands of IGO President Ichiryu. Ichiryu then asked Mansam to come with him stating that he should make this the first and last time he loses a fight. He then stands up to confront Shigematsu while declaring that he can lose to no one other than the president. He then proceeds to ask Shigematsu if he has some booze. While the battle was unseen, it is clear that Mansam lost the battle and was seen lying on the floor while he noticed Joie's dark presence over Cooking Stadium.[22]

After the dreadful event at Cooking Fest and the disaster caused by Midora's Meteor Spice, the IGO began to desperately work harder than ever to ensure that order and stability remained within the Human World, however due to the assassination of the Board of Directors by the traitorous director Uumen Umeda, this left only Ray and Johannes to direct the staff at IGO Headquarters and handle the revival of the recently rescued Chief Mansam. Luckily they were eventually able to restore him with enough liquor to stimulate the regenerative properties of his Gourmet Cells. Upon regaining consciousness, they informed him of the recent events such as the death of the directors and the current food shortage. Mansam then ordered the two to prepare the emergency storage food and have it distributed to all the affected countries in order to protect the food and peace of the world. Ray having been moved by the Chief's words, uttered his name which naturally caused Mansam to wonder if Ray called him "handsome", surprisingly Ray decided to humor the compassionate director and stated that he did indeed call him "handsome".

Billion Bird Arc"So you've finally come back... Toriko..."

—Mansam

A year and a half has passed since the events of the Meteor Spice struck the Human World. The Human World, left in devastation, struggled to gain any food due to the environmental disaster causing heavy damages to once fertile lands rendering them to be nothing more but wastelands. When Toriko had arrived from his journey to the Gourmet World and rescuing Komatsu, a member of the IGO quickly informs their president of his arrival. The president whom was informed was none other than Mansam himself, taking his friend Ichiryu's former place as President of the IGO. He then then tells three of the Heavenly Kings to head out.

Well now...

After Toriko's return Mansam called Toriko to IGO's 1st Biotope, when Toriko arrived he continues to call Mansam "Chief" but the latter corrects him stating that he is no longer the chief but rather the IGO's "Handsome President". Soon after, Mansam, Toriko and Komatsu are joined by the rest of the Four Heavenly Kings as well as Rin. As everyone converses with one another, Rin asks Toriko to marry her, to which Toriko accepts without hesitation. Mansam, Coco, Sunny, Zebra and Komatsu stood in awkward silence for a brief moment before everyone began making a big commotion over the nonchalant proposal.

Mansam is next seen within the IGO office where he asks his subordinate if the Saiseiya have begun assisting in the restoration of the Human World as well as the IGO. He is then visited Johannes who informs him that the Capture Level Measuring Devices that are designed for the Gourmet World are almost completed. He then states that in order for the Gourmet Age to return to its former glory they will need ingredients in the Gourmet World and in order to do so, the strength of the Four Heavenly Kings is needed. He then takes his Billion Bird Egg drink and states that Ichiryu must be glad that is became part of Toriko's Full Course. He reminisces, yet again, the time when he and Ichiryu found Toriko in a wasteland, struggling to survive. He remembers the moment in more depth and remembers that he was about to eliminate Toriko for having Gourmet Cells and deeming him dangerous, instead Ichiryu adopts him. He states that Ichiryu made the right choice in adopting Toriko and even states that the thoughts of Ichiryu are brought within Toriko's Full Course.

When the Four Heavenly Kings and Komatsu depart for the Gourmet World, Mansam is next seen simply stating them to get going while he is taking a bath, taking light of the situation at hand.

AIR Arc

When everyone who bids farewell to the Four Heavenly Kings and Komatsu gather at Toriko Harbor, Mansam himself came and gave Toriko a bag filled with certain equipment, one of these certain equipments was the new Capture Level Measuring device that Johannes had presented to Mansam. Mansam warns Toriko about the harsh reality of the Gourmet World stating that the Gourmet World itself is almost like a creature due to its harsh natures. He then continues to tell Toriko of the plan to get other people of fair power levels to travel to the areas which Toriko an the others have already travelled in due to the aura that the Heavenly Kings will leave traces of, acting as "Territory Markings" that will fend off any monsters and be able to act as a pathway to deliver food from the Gourmet World to the Human World.

As the group departs towards the Gourmet World, Mansam is seen with the group of people who bid them farewell.

PAIR Arc

At IGO Headquarters, he eats AIR and the taste drops him to his knees and revives the Gourmet Cells of his left arm. He wonders if those who went to the Gourmet World after Toriko had a similar reaction.[23]
