Chapter 313: The Chase Part 1
When Alec and the gang emerged, they noticed that even Grace and Gabriel, who had decided to keep their distance, had repositioned themselves closer to the Golems.
At the cave entrance, an entire army of plant life forms stood before them, Just the sight of them filled Alec with a sense of foreboding.
There was only one plant Lifeform that Alec knew that could be so enraged as to mobilize an army of this size against him.
This could be seen from the fact that the plant Lifeform was even willing to cross the borders where Divine Tree held no dominion, all to take Alec down.
"Surely, you didn’t expect to see me again, did you?"
The root, now in Its form of a plant humanoid, stepped forward with outstretched arms.
Its gaze bore into Alec, but Alec still struggled to recall who it was.
This action of Alec just seemed to infuriate the root even more.
"Ah, don’t tell me you’ve forgotten me so soon, Your master was the one who wounded me to the point where I had to descend in realm just to survive his last attack," the root sneered.
Finally, Alec remembered.
"Oh, it’s you, My apologies for not recognizing you. I suppose since you’re now a Tier 4 plant, I was trying my best to recall when I had an issue with a weakling, Turns out, it was you all along. I must say, the Tier 4 realm suits you perfectly,"
Alec taunted, intentionally trying to rile up the root, which seemed to work.
"How dare this little... Attack them! Wipe them all out!" the root commanded Impatiently as it realised that it could never get over Alec’s taunts , and countless Wood Woads, Treant Saplings complied, rushing toward Alec and his group, from afar.
"You’re still the same as always, Always targeting the weak and afraid of the strong. You saw that we have three Tier 4 mages among us, and realizing you would lack the advantage in foghting us like Las time due to your now diminished realm, you’ve chosen to wear us out,"
Alec accused the Root, condemning its tactics.
However, the root behaved as if it hadn’t heard a word Alec said.
"You’re only making it angrier!" Brandon warned, preparing to unsheathe his sword, while Alec silently took back his golem into the space pouch.
Meanwhile, Agnes looked to Alec, asking, "What do we do now?"
"Do you not understand? Run for your lives! Do you want to die fighting hundreds of plant life forms? We’re not even Mid Tier mages and won’t be able to replenish our mana from the environment, easily during battle"
" Even most Tier 4 mages would succumb to exhaustion in a situation like this," Alec shouted as he was already sprinting forward.
The rest of the group snapped out of their daze and quickly followed suit.
Looking ahead, they realized that only Brandon and Arthur had managed to keep up with Alec.
It was clear that the three of them had never planned on fighting; their intention was to flee from the start. Find exclusive stories on NovelBin.Côm
They had been only been trying to act tough when they saw the massive army of plant life forms.
"What the hell? Couldn’t you have at least warned us that you were going to start running instead of making us look like fools out there, thinking you would back us up?"
Gabriel couldn’t help but curse at Alec, expressing his frustration.
Alec only gave him a sidelong glance and snickered.
"You idiot! You want to fight against an army of five hundred plant life forms?, How much mana do you think you have inside you? Even if you have multiple mana pools, you’ll die of exhaustion fighting that many enemies without rest, you fool."
" You haven’t even reached the High Mage rank yet, and you’re already full of this pride," Arthur cursed back, matching Gabriel’s harsh words.
"I truly pity your future accomplishments," Arthur retorted, his tone dripping with sarcasm and disdain, directed towards Gabriel.
This only fueled Gabriel’s anger, and he felt the urge to retaliate against Arthur, but he knew this was not the time for arguing.
"And here I thought we were getting off easy, thinking we’d end up in trouble with the Orcs, Who would’ve thought that instead of Orcs, it would be the plant faction chasing after us?" the mage who spoke up last time spoke before Vixie turned towards him with a glare.
"Why don’t you shut up for a second?, We’re trying to run for our lives here, Hopefully, we make it within range of the city gates in time,"
Vixie snapped, only to hear the sound of paws hitting the ground and growls coming from their right side.
"Alec! Look, more trouble coming from the right-hand side!"
Brandon called out, his gaze fixed on the accumulating dust that finally revealed their approaching adversaries.
"Oh, fuck!" Alec cursed, his eyes widening as he saw what had captured Brandon’s attention.
Every mage in the group turned to witness the daunting sight of countless wolf-rider orcs charging straight at them from the right side.
"You just had to jinx us again!, with that bad mouth of yours, Someone shut that damn mouth before he unleashes more terrible things upon us!" Vixie shouted in frustration.
--
The orc chief had abandoned most of his forces and commanded the hundred wolf riders to pursue the group he believed were responsible for the mine robbery.
At First he had Mistaken the plant life forms to be the culprits but after chasing them and seeing their pursuit of the humans carrying sacks filled with power stones, the orc chief’s rage burned intensely, as he realised who the real thieves were.
In the midst of the chaos, the orc chief’s primary goal was to reach Alec’s group, killing anyone who stood in his way.
Meanwhile, the root issued orders for the plant army to prevent the orc army from flanking them on the right and infiltrating their ranks, knowing it would lead to chaos.
Driven by the desire to overtake the plant life forms and get to Alec, the orc chief and his followers unknowingly entered a chaotic and ferocious clash.
"Oh, shit, boss!, As if being chased by these crazed plants wasn’t enough, now the entire orc village is after us!, fortunately only the wolf riders have caught up to us – we’re completely screwed!" the mages which words seems to have jinx them twice exclaimed, fear and desperation in his voice.
"Boss, if we manage to escape this dire predicament, please, let us have a holiday, In fact, let all of us take a break."
" These two missions have been filled with enough adrenaline rushes. Reject any future missions involving Alec’s group, for our sake," Vixie pleaded, longing for a respite from the relentless danger they had faced.
she sighed exasperatedly as she quickly turned from atop her Fox mount to face Alec.
"Don’t be annoyed, but it seems like your group just attracts trouble wherever you go, The miles I’ve run while being with you folks could cover all my previous missions combined,"
Vixie cried out.
The rest of the group joined her in lamentation, wishing they had extra legs to run faster, especially those without mounts.
Even Arthur, usually stoic and composed, couldn’t help but join the tearful group.
They quietly thanked their lucky stars that, somehow, the plants and Orcs were clashing, slowing each other down.
