Chapter 39: New Roommate, Irina's Past and Present Life
After Irina Lowell was assigned to Gryffindor, the sorting ceremony continued, with Draco Malfoy, Harry Potter, and Ron Weasley—characters from the original work—following along in the alphabetical order.
Soon, the sorting ceremony ended, and the welcoming feast officially began after a brief speech by Professor Dumbledore.
Among the dinners at Hogwarts Castle, the welcome feast, Halloween feast, Christmas dinner, and the end-of-year feast are the most sumptuous. As a result, even the proud Slytherins find themselves indulging in the delights of the evening, eating their fill and savoring every bite.
After the feast, Lynn followed the crowd back to the dormitory.
However, unlike last year, this year there were three new students in his dormitory.
A platinum-haired boy and two followers with black hair.
"This is Crabbe, and this is Goyle. They're my followers. As for me, I'm Draco Malfoy, the eldest. I think we'll make great dorm mates."
The platinum-haired boy extended his hand to Lynn and introduced himself.
Lynn was a little surprised to see these three people.
Since he had spent a year in the dormitory alone last year, he knew he would welcome three first-year students as roommates, but he didn't expect those roommates to be the Malfoy trio.
Lynn gave a slight nod to them and said, "My name is Roll, Lynn Roll. If you don't disturb my studies, I think we'll get along just fine."
After saying this, Lynn waved his wand softly.
With a beautiful silent spell, countless textbooks and his alchemy materials flew out of his bag and were neatly arranged in their proper places within just a few moments.
The silent spell stunned the Malfoy trio.
"Silent casting?! Isn't that something only students in their fifth year or higher can learn?!" Draco Malfoy said in disbelief.
Lynn turned his head and said, "If your talent is high enough and you're willing to put in the time to practice, I think you can manage it."
Lynn had no desire to continue the conversation. The night was short, and he still had to try enchanting the Desert Eagle given to him by Professor Green using alchemical matrixes.
He just hoped these new roommates wouldn't make too much noise and disturb his alchemy.
Carefully taking out his Desert Eagle from his pocket, Lynn began considering which alchemical circles to use for enchanting the firearm.
"Regarding the Desert Eagle, the body of the weapon can be enchanted with an alchemy circle incorporating attributes such as 'dexterity,' 'lightness,' 'accuracy,' and 'enhancement.' The main goal is to reduce the load. As for the weapon's power, that depends on the enchantment applied to the bullets themselves!"
Lynn quickly made up his mind. He took out a mithril carving knife and began preparing for the alchemy.
---
Two flowers bloomed, one on each side.
While Lynn was busy with his alchemy, the girls of Gryffindor were asleep.
Irina sat on her bed, seemingly lost in thought.
She was a university student in her previous life. During a summer trip to Antarctica, she accidentally discovered a refrigerated truck parked by the side of the road, abandoned by a gang of poachers. When the gang left, she secretly opened the truck's refrigeration chamber, entered, and freed all the Antarctic penguins the poachers had captured.
But just as she was about to escape, the poacher gang returned. They didn't notice her in the refrigerated chamber and closed the door from the outside.
Due to a strange combination of circumstances, she was locked in the chamber and eventually froze to death in its frigid environment.
Irina thought she would sleep forever in that cold storage, never to wake up. But unexpectedly, she was reborn in 1980s England, born into a middle-class family with the surname Lowell.
Just as Irina was preparing for her rebirth and planning to use her foresight to become successful in the Muggle world, the Hogwarts admission letter shattered her original fantasy.
At that moment, Irina realized she wasn't traveling through her original world, but rather in the magical world of Harry Potter.
It wasn't that Irina hadn't considered rejecting Hogwarts and continuing her life in the Muggle world.
However, if a young wizard doesn't receive formal education, their magical power will spiral out of control, eventually leading to their silence or death.
Irina didn't want to die from an explosive magical backlash.
Moreover, without the proper protection, even if she and her family had the greatest wealth and power in the UK, they'd be as vulnerable as any soul under the death curse.
Thus, she had no choice but to accept the Hogwarts admission letter and prepare to enter the magical world.
During the summer, Irina discovered an unexpected talent for a type of magic known as the freezing spell. Not only could she cast all ice-related spells with ease, but she could even shape water into ice according to her will! By the time the first day of school arrived, she could cast the freezing spell silently.
This talent amazed Irina. In her mind, no one except her should be able to perform silent casting before entering Hogwarts.
Of course, Irina wondered why she had such a special talent. After all, her ancestors were all Muggles with no magical bloodline.
But she soon reassured herself, considering it a gift from fate for her good deeds in her previous life.
In her past life, she froze to death trying to save a small life. In this life, she was granted the power to control ice. It made sense, didn't it?!
Irina thought it did.
"Irina, what are you thinking about?"
A sweet voice came from beside her. Irina turned to see Hermione looking at her with curiosity.
That's right, Hermione was Irina's dormmate.
Irina was thrilled to sleep in the same room with the small and cute Hermione.
Little Hermione smelled sweet and was soft. As a girl who loved Hogwarts, Irina naturally felt very affectionate toward Hermione.
Irina smiled slightly, her smile like a gentle breeze that made Hermione feel inexplicably comfortable: "Oh, it's nothing. I was just thinking about a type of magic I've been practicing."
Hearing this, Hermione, the best student in their year, immediately became excited: "What magic? I practiced a lot of magic during the summer too. Maybe we can share our experiences!"
