Chapter 105: Alchemical Glasses Immune to Basilisks
Irina naturally remembered the technique of using the Disillusionment Charm. She whispered the incantation and tapped her head with her wand. Along with a wave of magical power, Irina's figure disappeared.
"Take my hand," said Lynn.
After feeling a soft hand grasping his finger, Lynn also waved his wand to conceal his figure.
Thus, the two walked in the direction of the Whomping Willow.
Along the way, Irina held Lynn's finger and walked under his guidance. Her face, hidden by the Disillusionment Charm, turned slightly red.
Hermione's teasing words from the morning still echoed in her mind. Being alone... does this count as a date?
"We're here," Lynn said as he approached the Whomping Willow and pressed the scar on its branch.
The Whomping Willow, still swaying in the wind, suddenly stopped, revealing a secret passage beneath it, just wide enough for one person.
Lynn entered the secret passage first, then dispelled his own Disillusionment Charm.
Irina followed closely behind, released Lynn's hand, and after removing the Disillusionment Charm, followed him to the other end of the secret passage, which led to the Shrieking Shack in Hogsmeade Village.
"There shouldn't be any professors patrolling outside Hogwarts early in the morning. I think we can manage without the Marauder's Map," Irina said.
She hadn't seen any professors or students along the way.
Hearing this, Lynn chuckled lightly, handed Irina the Marauder's Map, and motioned for her to read it herself.
Irina looked at the Marauder's Map in confusion, then her eyes widened in surprise.
She saw the small dot representing Professor Sprout leaving the castle, and her direction was directly towards the Whomping Willow!
She had forgotten that on the first day of classes, Harry and Ron drove the flying car into the Whomping Willow, and Professor Sprout had to tend to the tree every day during this period!
If they were a bit late, they might run into Professor Sprout around the corner!
After some time, the two arrived at a room filled with worn-out furniture.
This room was the Shrieking Shack, the legendary haunted house at Hogwarts where wolves howl at night. Of course, both Lynn and Irina knew the origins of this room. This was the place where Remus Lupin transformed into a werewolf on full moon nights, a secret that Professor Dumbledore had kept at Hogwarts.
"This place is quite spacious. When we return later, I'll teach you the Ironclad Curse here."
Lynn said in a relaxed tone.
Like the Disillusionment Charm, the Ironclad Curse was also a very practical spell that second-year students couldn't access. It was said that among the Aurors of the Ministry of Magic, very few could master the Ironclad Curse.
Irina nodded and followed Lynn out of the Shrieking Shack impatiently, heading towards Hogsmeade.
"Go that way, and you'll see Honeydukes at the end. After we finish shopping, we'll meet back here."
Lynn pointed the way to Irina and then walked towards the shop where he purchased alchemical materials.
The biggest threat to Hogwarts this year was the Basilisk Horcrux Diary and Voldemort. There were very few things capable of destroying the Horcrux Diary, other than the Sword of Gryffindor and the Basilisk's fangs, which were made of sheep. The Fire Curse was also one of the magical spells Lynn couldn't yet access.
The Fire Curse was a type of dark magic, surpassed only by the three Unforgivable Curses. Even Lynn's master, Green, was unwilling to teach him.
Although Lynn had demonstrated his talent for fully controlling fire multiple times, the dangers of dark magic, which could cloud people's minds, still prevented Green from taking the risk.
After all, Lynn was his only disciple and his last hope.
Therefore, Lynn focused his attention on dealing with the Basilisk.
To confront the Basilisk, a team immune to the Basilisk's death magic and petrification magic was absolutely essential, and goggles were the most suitable equipment for this.
This time, Lynn came to Hogsmeade to buy alchemical materials for the alchemical vials, which would be immune to death magic and petrification magic.
"Boss, I need 10 inches of Guardian Tree trunk, 2 dried Billywig stingers, 20 grams of powdered venomous snake fangs, 10 ounces of salamander blood, 10 feet of dragon skin, 10 grams of dragon claw powder, and 20 grams of Motella rat tentacles."
Upon entering the shop, Lynn informed the old wizard behind the counter of the materials he needed.
Lynn used all these materials to refine the bodies of the alchemical vials that would be immune to death magic and petrification magic.
Like most high-end alchemical products, these special alchemical vials also required creating their bodies through material-based alchemy and then completing the enchantment through matrix alchemy.
Among these materials, the Guardian Tree was a magical rowan tree that protected those who had its trunk from attacks by dark creatures; the Billywig stingers and fangs were used to make a calming potion, but could also be used in alchemy; the salamander blood was a raw material for strengthening potions. In alchemy, it played a role similar to the "strengthening" attribute of alchemy runes.
Dragon skin could resist certain physical and magical attacks. All young wizards would buy a pair of dragon skin gloves when they entered school; dragon claw powder had a stimulating effect, and its medicinal properties could be extracted separately during alchemy; rat tentacles could enhance a wizard's resistance to dark spells and bad luck.
Most of these materials were raw ingredients for potions and medicines for internal use, but Lynn was able to extract their special effects individually in alchemy and integrate them into the new materials he created, making something completely new. This was the charm of material-based alchemy!
Of course, these weren't all the materials Lynn needed for alchemy. There were also some materials that could be found at Hogwarts, such as unicorn horns and mandrakes.
Wouldn't it be nice to get them for free in Hagrid's class and Herbology?!
The old wizard looked at Lynn with a strange expression. He had never heard of any potion requiring the use of these unrelated materials at the same time.
Indeed, no potion used unrelated ingredients, but alchemy could!
Only alchemy could extract the advantages of unrelated materials and merge them into entirely new substances.
"98 Galleons," the old wizard said calmly as he placed the materials Lynn needed into boxes.
Lynn paid the money, put the box into an enchanted stretch bag without leaving a trace, and then walked toward the agreed meeting place with Irina.
However, when he left the Shrieking Shack, Irina was nowhere to be seen.
You see, Honeydukes was much closer to the Shrieking Shack than where he had gone, and the time the old wizard spent helping him find the materials was enough for a young wizard to pick out delicious food from Honeydukes, but now that he was back, Irina was still nowhere to be found.
"Damn it, did something happen to her?"
Lynn's expression changed, and he immediately began walking quickly in the direction of Honeydukes.
