Chapter 70
Ling Yue threw the completed bid slips into the bidding box. To obtain this raw gemstone, she needed to bid higher than the other bidders, and the raw gemstone would be hers if her bid price was the highest.
As for the bidding results, they would be announced tomorrow morning at the bidding conference, along with the other sealed-bid gemstones.
Ling Yue and Lan Ji continued walking, and whenever Ling Yue spotted a promising raw gemstone, she filled out a bid slip. By noon, she had bid on no less than twenty gemstones.
"Ling Yue, how many raw gemstones did you like?" Tang Xin and Old Mr. Tang approached them after seeing Ling Yue and Lan Ji.
"Around twenty, I guess," Ling Yue didn't hide it from Tang Xin. She judged gemstones based on the spiritual energy emanating from them, unlike others who had more complicated methods. This allowed her to select gemstones faster and more easily.
"That many! Grandpa only liked seven." Tang Xin had followed Old Mr. Tang all morning, who examined each raw gemstone meticulously, often spending ten to twenty minutes on each one before carefully selecting seven after deep consideration.
"The more you bid on, the higher the chance of winning some," Old Mr. Tang smiled. He too wished to bid on more gemstones, but they weren't just vegetables in a basket - careful selection was necessary.
The gemstones here were vastly different from those at outdoor stalls, each costing hundreds of millions or even billions. Choosing the wrong one would be like throwing money away.
"Grandpa, I'm hungry. Let's go eat first," Tang Xin had only eaten a bowl of porridge and a fried dough stick for breakfast, and her stomach was already growling.
Old Mr. Tang gave Tang Xin a helpless yet indulgent look. "Alright, let's go to the dining hall. Ling Yue, Lan Ji, would you like to join us?" The venue had a dedicated dining hall for attendees of the gemstone exchange fair.
"Let's go together."
The four arrived at the large dining hall, which could accommodate hundreds of people, though not many were there for the meal.
At the self-serve area, Ling Yue took a plate and selected a few dishes and desserts she liked before heading towards an empty table for four.
Just as she was about to sit down, a woman charged straight at her. Ling Yue dodged, but some soup still spilled onto the woman.
"Can't you watch where you're going? The soup spilled all over my dress!" The woman screamed angrily, pointing at the stain on her dress. "Apologize to me and pay for this dress, or there will be consequences."
Without even giving the woman a glance, Ling Yue placed her plate on the table and sat down.
Enraged by Ling Yue's reaction, the woman swept Ling Yue's plate off the table and onto the floor. She had intentionally picked a fight with Ling Yue because of the alluring look in her eyes that drew her husband's gaze while she wore a mask.
Just moments ago, she and her husband were examining gemstones when Ling Yue passed by. Her husband couldn't take his eyes off the woman.
Ling Yue's eyes turned icy cold in an instant. She stood up and slapped the woman hard across the face. "Go to the hospital if you're sick."
The slap sent the woman tumbling to the floor, right into the mess of food Ling Yue's plate had made, leaving her in pain and humiliation.
Seeing the commotion, Lan Ji rushed over with his plate, not even bothering to get food. "Yue Yue, what happened?"
Tang Xin and Old Mr. Tang also hurried over.
"It's nothing," Ling Yue gave the woman on the floor a cold glance before walking towards another empty table.
"You stay right there!" The woman scrambled up from the floor, trying to grab Ling Yue's hair.
Ling Yue easily dodged the woman's grasp and kicked her hard in the stomach at the same time.
The woman flew several meters before crashing heavily to the ground.
At that moment, the woman's husband entered the dining hall. Seeing his wife lying on the floor, he rushed over. "Li Caifeng, what are you causing a ruckus about again?" He hadn't planned on bringing her to Myanmar this time, but she insisted on coming, threatening to fly there herself if he didn't let her. Reluctantly, he had no choice but to bring her along.
Clutching her stomach in pain, Li Caifeng broke into cold sweat. "She hit me... Didn't you see it... Xu Yangchun, you unfaithful man... How could you do this to me... To our children..." she wailed.
Furious, Xu Yangchun clenched his fists and pulled Li Caifeng up from the floor. "Back to the hotel with me. If you embarrass me again, I'll send you right back home!" Over the years, he had grown weary of this woman. If not for the sake of their children, he would have divorced her long ago.
"Xu Yangchun... So you really have taken a fancy to that vixen... I'll gouge out those eyes she uses to seduce men today!" Li Caifeng seemed to find newfound strength as she shoved Xu Yangchun away and charged towards Ling Yue with a crazed expression.
Ling Yue's eyes turned icy cold, her killing intent surging. She took a step forward and grabbed Li Caifeng by the throat. "Since you're asking for death, I'll grant your wish." She was no pushover to be trampled on.
"You... What do you think you're doing... Let go of me..." Fear gripped Li Caifeng's heart as she met Ling Yue's murderous gaze, her legs struggling as if she might suffocate.
"I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I apologize on her behalf, please let her go," Xu Yangchun rushed forward, seeing Li Caifeng's struggles to breathe.
Ling Yue's icy glare fell on Xu Yangchun as she tossed Li Caifeng to the ground. "Keep your people in check. If there's a next time, I won't be so merciful." Had they not been in a public place where killing was prohibited, Li Caifeng would now be a corpse.
"Thank you! Thank you!" Xu Yangchun breathed a sigh of relief and went to help the coughing Li Caifeng up from the floor. Although he had grown disgusted with her, she had still been his wife for so many years, and he couldn't completely abandon her.
Lan Ji shot a cold glance at the couple, contemplating what price they should pay for provoking his Yue Yue, who wasn't so easily bullied.
"Wait! I have a question for you," Xu Yangchun called out to stop Ling Yue. He had something to ask her, as her eyes seemed vaguely familiar, which was why he had been staring at her earlier.
Ling Yue ignored him and walked to the self-serve area to get another plate and select her food again.
Xu Yangchun glared fiercely at Li Caifeng before dragging her outside to a secluded corner, where he shoved her away. "Why did you have to pick a fight with her?"
"Then why were you staring at her?" Li Caifeng's anger reignited as she recalled how Xu Yangchun had been ogling Ling Yue earlier.
