The Genius Tamer of the Academy

Chapter 76

Chapter 76

My heart sank.

Seeing a member of the Magic Department in the Necromancy Department’s classroom at this hour, and finding out that Burke had already collapsed and someone had messed with his locker, would strike anyone as strange.

It was natural to feel uneasy.

I quickly turned my body and forced an awkward smile.

But I couldn’t maintain the act for long.

I was too shocked.

“What the…?”

The person who opened the door and looked at me with a dazed expression was Seymour Parker from the Necromancy Department.

No, why are you coming out from there?

Luckily, it didn’t seem like he had seen me opening or closing the locker.

I slowly scanned him, trying to gauge the situation.

His face looked exhausted, with deep dark circles under his eyes.

It was hard to believe that this was the same Seymour Parker who used to charge in with a face full of vigor.

Seymour Parker spoke in a calm voice.

“I thought you’d be more surprised.”

I sighed in relief and responded to him.

He didn’t seem to care why I was here.

Well, he probably didn’t have the time to think about that.

I forced myself to reply casually to his words.

“It’s not like I saw someone I shouldn’t.”

“No, I meant that you didn’t freak out about me being out of jail. I thought you’d be more shocked.”

Of course, I was freaked out.

I was just more terrified of getting caught trying to steal the cube, so I momentarily forgot about it.

Seymour Parker’s return to school had been planned, so it wasn’t the big event he thought it was.

However, it wasn’t supposed to be this soon.

In my memory, he didn’t get out until at least the third or fourth year.

It must have been thanks to the help of Dean Ernest.

Could this be another variable I caused?

I observed him carefully.

His drooping eyes didn’t seem to hold any malice.

That was a relief. It meant he hadn’t fully turned yet.

As I continued to scrutinize Seymour Parker, he finally frowned and asked.

“But why are you…”

“Hello, how have you been?”

“Hey… hey!”

Quickly.

I awkwardly grabbed the door in a very obvious manner.

In the meantime, I had already hidden the cube inside my subspace bag. I wasn’t sure if this excuse would work, but…

“I got lost.”

“Oh, right.”

“I’m terrible with directions.”

Luckily, he didn’t try to stop me.

From the look on his face, he didn’t even have the energy to bother.

* * *

“Seymour Parker is back?”

The next day, Ardel Academy was in an uproar.

With the fall incident at the festival, Burke’s staged act, and now this, the entire academy was in chaos again.

This school never has a peaceful day.

Adela frowned and lowered her voice.

“Are they out of their minds? Why did the Dean release him?”

If it hadn’t been Dean Ernest who released Seymour Parker, Adela probably would have cursed out loud.

I awkwardly smiled and shoved a piece of roasted barbecue into my mouth.

If she knew that I was one of the people who suggested getting him out, she’d probably kill me.

The atmosphere in the cafeteria was already tense, so Won spoke excitedly.

“He was here earlier. Boldly, too. The Necromancy Department students were all over him. Did you see?”

“It looks like there’s going to be a fight today. The tension’s been high since the festival.”

Adela sighed as she chewed on a sausage.

She was right.

The animosity between the Magic Department and the Necromancy Department was reaching its peak.

It made sense, given that one of them staged an act and ended up in a bad situation.

The image of the Necromancy Department, which had been quiet for a while, was deteriorating again.

At that moment, a loud voice echoed through the cafeteria.

“Seymour Parker is here!”

“Damn. What’s with the nerve?”

A group of Necromancy Department students followed Seymour Parker into the cafeteria.

Wearing their department jackets, they sat boldly in the center, glaring over at our side with an arrogant attitude.

“This is the end of the world.”

“You sound like you’ve lived a hundred years.”

“Does it make sense? To attend the same school as that guy?”

“Hey, we can hear you. Watch your mouth, okay?”

One of the Necromancy students warned the Magic Department in a sharp voice.

Seymour Parker himself remained silent, but the room was buzzing around him.

It was understandable since Seymour Parker had been a leader-like figure in the Necromancy Department at Smart Academy.

He’s someone to be cautious of.

For now, I managed to stop him from turning to the dark side, but who knows what could happen next.

Even while I was casually chatting with Adela, my gaze was fixed on Seymour Parker.

“Seymour, ignore them. The Magic Department guys are all scared. If they’re so confident, they should come to us. But they’re just talking behind our backs, like cowards.”

“I think that’s enough.”

Seymour Parker sighed and cut off the chatter of his followers, but the fight didn’t stop there.

“Wow, nowadays, even criminals walk around with their heads held high. Your people almost got Natalie killed. Right, Natalie?”

“I’m… I’m fine!”

“Fine? I’m not fine at all. It’s disgusting to see scum like that walking around the school.”

Adela’s prediction was spot on.

As soon as someone mentioned Natalie, who was the ideal type for everyone, the faces of the Magic Department students turned grim.

Ah, they’re really going to fight now.

So much for eating in peace.

“What? Disgusting? Did you just hit me?”

“Aren’t you Necromancy guys capable of talking without resorting to fists? Your level is just…”

Smack.

“Hey, did you just hit me?”

“Argh!”

“Yeah, I hit you. What are you going to do about it, idiot? Come at me if you’ve got the guts.”

“You think I won’t? You bastards!”

Crash.

It was utter chaos.

Adela held her head, wincing as if she had a headache.

Natalie, who was a pacifist and didn’t know what to do, looked lost, while the other students were making a mess that was tarnishing the reputation of the Magic Department.

The cafeteria had become a literal battlefield.

Won shrugged his shoulders and spoke.

“Well, everyone expected this, right? It’s not like it’s the first time.”

“Ugh, this is embarrassing.”

Adela clicked her tongue in disgust as she tore into a crispy piece of barbecue.

At that moment, none of us knew what was about to happen.

“What? A correction request?”

Seymour Parker, the leader and central figure of the Necromancy Department, had applied for a department transfer to the Magic Department.

That afternoon, the school was thrown into turmoil once again.

* * *

“I would like to discuss the correction request submitted by student Seymour Parker.”

Dean Ernest spoke in a solemn tone.

Usually, the other professors would nod along to his words, but today, they all sighed as soon as he started speaking.

‘A correction request? What nonsense is that?’

Everyone seemed to have the same thought.

As they exchanged uneasy glances, Professor Grint was the first to speak up.

“I don’t think this is something that should be brought up by a student who just returned after causing such a major incident.”

“I agree.”

“Even if you have nerves of steel, this is going too far. He must have a heart of iron.”

“He’s just a kid, yet already…”

None of the Magic Department professors were pleased with the situation.

The Necromancy Department professors weren’t any different.

“He’s out of his mind.”

“What could he possibly be thinking, wanting to transfer to the Magic Department?”

“Why not just send him to the Theology Department to calm him down?”

“Is the Theology Department a place for anyone and everyone?”

“No, let’s not exaggerate. Our students aren’t just anybody!”

From the perspective of the Necromancy Department professors, Seymour Parker was a rare talent, the kind you’d only see once in several years.

He was the only top-ranking first-year student who chose to join the Necromancy Department.

The idea of such a talent wanting to transfer to another department was unthinkable, and the mere thought of him considering it was deeply offensive.

‘Even if it’s offensive, we need to hold on to him.’

For various reasons, most of the professors were not happy about Seymour Parker’s correction request.

Dean Ernest tapped the table twice to regain control of the meeting’s atmosphere.

“What are your thoughts on the correction request itself?”

As soon as Dean Ernest spoke, the professors’ opinions poured out.

Most of the responses were emotionally charged and somewhat harsh.

“Correction requests are not common.”

“Exactly.”

“No one in their right mind has ever requested one before.”

“Oh, come on, Professor. Let’s be civil.”

“Do I look like I can speak civilly about that brat right now?”

“Alright, enough!”

Bang, bang.

Dean Ernest quickly cut off the professors’ argument.

As they said, correction requests were indeed rare.

Department assignments were made based on a student’s disposition, and it was almost unheard of for the dice’s decision to be overturned.

Without being selected for another role, a student’s request wouldn’t change anything.

It was a method that followed the will of the heavens, so to speak.

Even if Seymour Parker insisted on transferring to the Magic Department, it would be impossible without the dice’s selection.

Moreover, a student’s basic disposition was unlikely to change.

Yet, here he was, stubbornly insisting.

“Should we give him one chance?”

“No, he’s already been given plenty of chances by being released in the first place.”

“What’s wrong with the Necromancy Department that he wants to leave? That kid must be out of his mind.”

“Then let’s do this.”

Professor Grint cautiously raised his hand.

As the second most influential figure at Ardel Academy after Dean Ernest, his words carried weight.

A few of the professors who had been noisily debating fell silent.

‘Damn Seymour Parker.’

Even though Professor Grint wasn’t fond of Seymour Parker, he knew that outright opposing and suppressing him would only create more trouble.

It was better to let the matter play out clearly in the auditorium than to have it fester in the background.

“Let’s handle this openly in the auditorium.”

And so, Seymour Parker’s correction request was officially accepted.

* * *

“No way, a correction request?”

“Did he finally go mad after being in prison?”

“If it’s Ardel’s underground prison, that’s totally possible. He must be crazy.”

The Magic Department students murmured as they watched the scene in front of the auditorium.

I felt the same as they did.

“It really doesn’t make sense….”

“Right?”

I slowly nodded at Won’s comment.

In the original story, there was no mention of Seymour Parker transferring to the Magic Department.

It made sense. Seymour was supposed to solidify his role as the antagonist in the Necromancy Department, gathering power to eventually betray Lee Han.

Is this some new kind of betrayal?

But if that were the case, there was no trace of malice in his eyes.

In fact, his eyes were so vacant that it was hard to guess what he was thinking.

Ah, maybe he really did lose his mind?

He did seem a little unhinged.

“Student Seymour Parker, please step forward.”

Dean Ernest called out to Seymour Parker with a gentle smile.

Seymour’s shoulders trembled slightly.

I rested my chin on my hand and murmured quietly to myself.

If there’s anyone to blame for creating so many variables, it’s me.

Even considering all those variables, this situation didn’t make sense.

“Will this work?”

“Of course not. The dice are called dice for a reason. I don’t even understand why they accepted the request. There’s no way it’s going to change.”

Won waved his hand dismissively, confident in his stance.

There was no way this would work. I shared a similar sentiment, but since Seymour was so determined, there must be a reason. All we could do was wait and see.

Then it happened.

“Student Seymour Parker.”

The auditorium fell silent.

The magical dice, which we had seen at the beginning of the semester, appeared on the podium.

Ah, I remember the first time I was assigned.

It felt nostalgic.

I stared intently at the magical dice, which were vibrating nonstop.

Wiiiing-.

The round glass orb holding the dice shook wildly and then shot up into the air.

The dice, absorbing all of Seymour Parker’s life, disposition, and other traits, spun furiously.

Dean Ernest spoke in a heavy tone.

“The assignment will now begin.”

“Huff…”

As the dice floated into the air, not even a breath could be heard in the auditorium.

“Huh?”

When the result appeared, a student sitting in the back gasped, breaking the silence.

“No way.”

“What am I… what am I seeing?”

A vivid red light shone from the dice.

The professor standing next to Seymour Parker was clearly flustered, stammering as he announced the result.

“S-Seymour Parker… has been reassigned to the M-Magic Department.”

I couldn’t help but furrow my brows deeply.

…That guy?
