The Genius Scientist Who Crosses Over Twice

Chapter 19: Lance is Akainu, Lorelei is Onigumo

"Do you need me to battle that new Champion from the Galar League?"

Lance said coldly.

He increasingly felt that these people were looking down on him.

What does that mean?

Do they think he would lose to some nobody who just popped up out of nowhere?

"Alright, alright, let's get back to the topic."

Seeing the atmosphere growing heavier, the short, Santa Claus-like Chairman Damalanche finally spoke up.

But rather than getting back on topic, it felt more like a "change of topic."

"Lance, tell us about this newly discovered Team Rocket member. Are there any points we should be cautious about?"

Although Lance knew that Damalanche was trying to redirect his attention, he took a deep breath and chose to give the kindly old man some respect.

"He's very young, probably just over ten years old, and likely hasn't been a Trainer for long. His level is about that of an ordinary Gym Leader, but he has a perfect synergy with his Pokémon. In the future, he will definitely become a major problem."

"He has an incredibly strong Beedrill… stronger than my Dragonite."

Lance hesitated for a second when he said this but quickly stated the facts.

What's the big deal about losing once?

As long as he kept training and got stronger, everything would be fine!

Hearing that this kid had a Pokémon stronger than Lance's Dragonite left the high-ranking members of the League in shock once more.

"Wait, didn't you just say that his level is only that of an ordinary Gym Leader? How is it that he has a Beedrill that's even stronger than your Dragonite?"

Lorelei picked up on the inconsistency.

"At least his new-type Eevee is like that."

Lance gradually calmed down and realized this point.

That Black Eevee and the Beedrill had a huge level gap.

Though the strength within the six Pokémon of a Trainer's team varies.

Even his own Dragon Team is like that.

But Joker's two were off the charts.

"Either that Beedrill is his main force, and the Black Eevee has only recently started to train, which accounts for the level difference, or…"

The crafty Kikuko interjected:

"That Beedrill is not his."

You have to hand it to the old-timers; they could guess a large part of it right away.

"I lean towards the latter."

Lance replied without hesitation.

"Phew… then that's a relief; having a ten-year-old with a Pokémon stronger than Lance would indeed be too outrageous."

A representative from the Joy family patted her rather ample chest.

"Hmph, don't celebrate too early."

Lance, who was not interested in women, didn't bother to look at her and sneered:

"More than the ability to command Pokémon, what's worrying are those odd gadgets he has."

...

...

Then, Lance described the entire battle process he had with Joker in detail.

Bruno: "Gloves that shoot webs?"

Lorelei: "A controller that makes Poké Balls malfunction?"

Everyone in the meeting room looked at each other in confusion.

What on earth are those?

They had never heard of such things!

"The webs are one thing, but the key is that controller."

Kikuko, the current Champion, spoke again:

"According to you, Lance, if that thing is used, it can keep a Poké Ball stuck in its minimized state, meaning he can make the ball's switch malfunction, right?"

"Exactly,"

Lance tightened his jaw at the mention of this topic.

"Poké Balls aren't that hard; can't our Pokémon just break free from the inside?"

Bruno proposed a solution.

Even if the Poké Ball is locked, as long as they're thrown out.

And then have the Pokémon break it from the inside, it should work.

A regular Poké Ball only costs 200 League dollars.

It isn't worth being upset about.

"Idiot! While your Pokémon are busy breaking the Poké Ball, the enemy will have already attacked."

As soon as Lorelei pointed it out,Bruno quickly realized the severity of the situation.

Just imagine a scenario battling against Team Rocket.

The enemy uses a device to make his Pokémon's Poké Ball switches malfunction.

Even if his Fighting-type Pokémon could break out of the Poké Ball in a second.

That single second would be enough to determine victory or defeat.

Not to mention that for most ordinary people's Pokémon, they don't even have that strength.

"Too dangerous…"

Kikuko voiced Bruno's concerns.

Even someone as seasoned as her couldn't help but feel that this machine was too powerful.

"This thing… was invented by that Joker?"

Damalanche spoke once more, his voice trembling slightly.

"A talent like this hasn't been recruited by our League in time; at such a young age, he has become a pawn of Team Rocket."

Damalanche sighed repeatedly.

Such genius at such a young age must have succumbed to the temptations of Team Rocket!

Damalanche, with his kind-hearted nature, secretly made up his mind.

If there was an opportunity, he would definitely do his best to steer this talented young man back on the right path.

"If he isn't lying, then yes. But whether he invented it or not, we can be sure that the device will definitely be widely used by Team Rocket."

Lance crossed his arms in front of his chest, "Dealing with Team Rocket will become much more troublesome moving forward."

Even someone as prideful as him had to admit how terrifying this controller was.

After saying that, Lance stood up to leave.

"Lance, where are you going?"

Bruno instinctively asked.

"To train!"

Lance said two words flatly.

Before coming to the meeting, he had assessed that his Dragon could break the sphere from the inside in just half a second.

But hurling the ball away to a safe distance took a second.

If his Dragon didn't manage its strength well, it might even take two seconds to throw it farther away.

Combined, that's two and a half seconds!

Too long!

In order to deal with that troublesome machine, Lance felt that he had to step up his training.

He needed his Dragon Team to perfectly control their strength.

Using the most precise force to shatter the Poké Ball and retaliate against the enemy.

At the very least, he wanted to compress the time to within one second!

Honestly, for most trainers, this seemed utterly impossible.

But… am I not just an ordinary person?

I'm a super champion, alright!

"So for now, that's all. Please inform all Gym Leaders and Officer Jenny to be more cautious when encountering Team Rocket."

Damalanche said earnestly.

However, this admonition was mainly directed at Lorelei.

After all, her attitude toward Team Rocket was even stronger than Lance's.

If Lance's stance on Team Rocket is that of Akainu, then Lorelei isn't less than Onigumo. (Onigumo: A Rear Admiral in the Marines, a hardliner following Akainu.)

Damalanche was genuinely worried she might go too far.

Lorelei crossed her legs, arms folded across her chest, turning her face to the other side.

It was unclear whether she was listening.

Noticing the empty seat beside her, Lorelei raised an eyebrow and asked:

"Where's that guy? Why didn't he come?"

That seat belonged to the last member of the current Johto Elite Four.
