Chapter 15
Now that I think about it,
the ‘Valdeon Saga’ was never a good game.
It had an insane level of freedom, but ironically, that damned freedom also led to nonsensical unfair deaths.
Like randomly running into a crazed criminal on the street and your character just dies out of nowhere.
—“Congratulations on your performance.”
When I went to the volcano for a quest, it suddenly erupted and I got one with the magma.
—“The ace is dead, right?!”
With continuous deaths like that, I couldn’t help but yell.
Still, after overcoming all that misfortune, I gripped the controller for the thrill of seeing the original ending.
You eventually get the hang of it after facing unfairness dozens, if not hundreds, of times.
“But right now…”
This is hands down one of the worst unfair moments I’ve had throughout all my playthroughs.
Why the hell is ‘Marco Yan’ in this offshoot city?!
[Beginner’s Tip for New Players #4]
This is a list of NPCs you absolutely should not be involved with.
If you get destined with these guys, just switch that playthrough to casual mode. It’s better for your mental health, for real.
-Fernia: The moment she becomes the emperor, she starts a war against dragons. The攻略 is almost on par with Ornika’s level of difficulty, so if you’re a new player, head straight for the Second Princess route for safety.
-Rienna: The moment you get deceived by her appearance, it’s straight to the cultist inquisitor ending. Want to攻略 her? Remove the faith that’s buried deep in her soul first. Just a sliver of blasphemy and your head will be smacked by her hammer, leading to the bad ending.
-Marco: Just keep praying he doesn’t show up throughout the story. A walking disaster. Some claim they’ve攻略ed him, but that sounds like a lie. No way someone with that personality could ever be dealt with.
Three of them you absolutely shouldn’t get involved with.
They proudly hold a spot as the infamous ‘Three Madwomen.’
“…I was just as surprised.”
The lady who entered the room fanned herself with her hand.
“Who would have thought the ‘Yan Family’ would come all the way out here…?”
“Um… what is the Yan Family?”
Angela carefully interjected into the conversation.
“It’s a rather large illegal organization. They’re famous for doing anything if it makes money.”
“You know quite a bit, kid. Especially about this guy called Marco who recently became the boss. He’s infamous for being a madman. His claims about starting fires are no joke…!”
The Yan Family.
Its inspiration comes from the huge crime syndicate known as ‘Mafia’ in Italy.
It’s so massive that even in the light of day, its name resonates to some extent.
While playing the game, you’d inevitably hear it at least once.
“But hearing the name is one thing; having the head honcho suddenly show up is another!”
I squeezed my eyes shut and asked.
“So why are you looking for me?”
“Well, actually…”
The lady revealed the details of the incident.
She explained that this inn was merely a side gig, her main job being a bar nearby.
It’s a place where young masters entertain female customers in this world…
But Marco came to that place.
And supposedly, he said this:
—“Hey, that cute gal I saw on the street just walked into your building…”
—“Th-that person isn’t a player! Just a customer…”
—“Oh really? So what? I want to drink the booze she serves! Bring her here, now.”
—“I-I can’t just do that…”
—“If you refuse one more time, I’ll burn this place to ashes. Choose your next words wisely.”
“…And that’s how it ended up.”
Wow, this is just nuts.
Ordering someone who’s not even a staff member to bring her over?
The truly sad part? I can’t refuse that demand.
If I were to tell him to screw off and not show up, he’d literally set something ablaze or turn the city upside down until I come out.
This bastard once he takes an interest, he pursues it to the end.
“Ugh…”
I exhaled a heavy sigh and made my decision.
Well, there wasn’t much of a decision to make.
This was really my only option from the start.
*
“I’ll do it.”
As Alben replied, Angela felt her heart tear apart.
“You…!”
“I have no choice. If I anger the Yan Family, things will escalate further.”
“Good thinking, kid! But I’ll make sure you get well rewarded!”
“…I’m fine with the money. It’s not like I’m selling my body.”
Despite being called ‘kid’ by the lady, I was already past the age of seventeen, which is an adult here.
She probably knew well what goes on there.
“Let’s hurry if you’re ready.”
Alben got up from his seat.
He seemed to have mentally prepared himself a lot already.
Knowing that determination, Angela felt like she might just lose it.
“Wait a second!”
Before I could even think, my hand shot out and grabbed his arm.
“We don’t have to go through with it like this…! Ah! Why don’t I just go and talk it over? If I reveal my identity, maybe they’ll…”
“No way.”
Alben looked sadly as he grasped Angela’s hand.
Then he started counting off his fingers as he spoke.
“That name must not be tainted for my sake.”
“What do you mean…? What good is a name that can’t protect even one benefactor?!”
For a moment, the world blurred and hot tears pooled in my eyes.
Many emotions tangled together, flowing out as a few drops of water.
“Ugh… really….”
“Just wait a bit. I’ll be back soon.”
In the end, until he stepped out of the room with the lady,
Angela could do nothing more.
She merely stared blankly at the spot he left.
“Ah… Aahhhhhh…!!”
Eventually, Angela’s scream echoed throughout the room.
Once again, she couldn’t protect him.
“It’s my weakness that cost him…!”
What was the point of striving for her sake?
In the end, she couldn’t even stay by his side.
She had willingly left, accepting the dirtied fate for his sake.
All she could do now was cry.
“I don’t like this… I don’t like this…!!”
She thought fate would bind them together.
Having a son resembling her, and a daughter who looks like him, shyly holding hands as they walked the streets together, gazing at the sunset when their hair turned silver with age.
Of course, she thought of it vaguely.
But the world was far crueler.
Even the power of fate didn’t affirm her helplessness.
‘If you can’t protect, you will lose it.’
Snap!
Angela’s teeth clenched.
Veins popped, and her eyes were bloodshot.
“I’m sorry… I’m truly sorry, my lady….”
She’d probably never forget this day her entire life.
The day her weakness sacrificed her lady.
“I will become… stronger….”
Stronger and stronger.
Wiping out all the obstacles standing in our way.
Slitting the throats of those who target her, uprooting their entire families.
If it means achieving that…
“……”
I’ll become an emperor.
*
“Room three. Be careful and keep your wits about you, kid.”
“Wow, you really have guts now.”
I repeatedly took deep breaths.
I didn’t know if I was relaxing, but my mind felt a bit clearer.
The darkly lit hallway stretched long before me.
Standing before the door labeled ‘3’, I took a moment to gather my thoughts.
Marco, the heroine in the Valdeon Saga known to be practically impossible to攻略.
Ornika was tough too, but at least some people had succeeded against her.
But not a soul had succeeded against Marco.
There wasn’t even a single certification photo out there to suggest anyone had.
However, there was one person who did manage to攻略 Marco.
“That person is me.”
When I posted the certification photo, most people’s reactions were along the lines of “shut up, I don’t believe you.”
—“Tch… I love you too, dear.”
—“Don’t be so embarrassed to bring such a gift! …I didn’t say I would throw it away, you know? Anyway, th-thanks….”
The typically bratty Marco blushing and getting shy, what a sight.
ㅇㅇ(12.142): If this isn’t a fabrication, then it’s definitely sincerity.
ㅇㅇ(49.172): Do you seriously think Marco would say something like that? LOL!
ㅇㅇ(11.114): It’s generally accepted that Marco is specifically programmed to be攻略-proof.
Honestly, I probably wouldn’t have believed it either.
But what can I say?
I saw that line and expression in the game myself.
‘An expression that other players don’t know about.’
People weren’t just disbelieving, they were throwing insults, so I didn’t reveal the攻略 method.
In fact, there was really no攻略 method to share.
My攻略ing Marco was ultimately a ‘mistake.’
“I’m coming in.”
—Oh, come in.
After swallowing once,
I turned the doorknob.
With a clatter, it opened, revealing a thick haze of cigarette smoke inside.
‘Ugh.’
Holding back my urge to gag as I scanned the interior,
I saw women in black suits, each holding a drink, all tipsy and giggly.
In an unexpected twist, it seemed that all members of the Yan Family were now women.
“Oh, is that him? The guy the boss was talking about?”
“…I think I see why the boss was interested. Hehe!”
“If it weren’t for the boss, I’d be all over him~.”
Their gazes were fixed on me.
Their bold lines and chatter floated back and forth like a thick fog.
“Hey, quiet down, ladies.”
But as soon as that person, who was sitting at the far end center, spoke, the noise instantly fell silent.
“I’ve marked him as my target. Anyone who touches him is in for it.”
She had wild, dark hair and blood-red eyes.
She looked reminiscent of a wolf.
At only nineteen, this monster had inherited the Yan surname and was the current boss of the Yan Family.
Fist Demon, Marco.
“Heheh. Welcome, my pretty.”
She casually flicked the cigar in her mouth, grinning widely.
