The Genius Physician Princess

Chapter 2

“Doctor? Did you say you want to be a doctor?”

Lantus looked as if he was thinking, ‘Why would anyone want to do something so crazy?’

It was understandable. Unlike in Korea, doctors here were looked down upon.

The only ones who could truly heal people were the priests of the sacred country Amos, ruled by the Holy Emperor.

Doctors were sought only by those who couldn’t afford the priests or were abandoned by them because the medical technology here was extremely poor.

‘Going to a doctor here is like getting more sick.’

The problem was, Amos was the main villain of this novel.

The treatment fees demanded by Amos were exorbitant.

Many people couldn’t afford these fees and became slaves to Amos.

Their misdeeds didn’t end there. They also threatened neighboring countries by controlling the number of priests they sent.

In short, ‘If you mess with us, we won’t send priests. If you don’t want to die, bow down!’

Most countries yielded to this threat, but Lantus was the exception.

He began researching ways to substitute the priests’ divine power with magic.

“Those bastards. They dare to hold lives hostage? I’ll find a way to heal people without divine power and destroy them.”

It was the perfect approach for someone who was a symbol of strength and defiance.

Unfortunately, his intentions were good, but the results were not.

Magic could heal his own body to some extent but not others.

While struggling with this, Amos learned of his plans.

Amos then started pressuring Wizardian with all means possible.

Even for someone as great as Lantus, enduring all this pressure was incredibly difficult.

But Lantus didn’t flinch.

“Come at me if you dare, bastards. Even if I die, I’ll make sure to take you all down with me.”

And that’s when the protagonist, the doctor Song Jin-ul, appeared in this world.

Using modern medical techniques, he improved the medical system here and saved people, humiliating Amos.

Lantus naturally became Song Jin-ul’s strongest ally.

Yeo-ul chose an innocent answer that a young child could give based on what she knew.

“I have a big debt to Amos because of my family’s medical bills. I don’t want others to suffer like I did because of Amos.”

The honest answer was, ‘I want to become a doctor to solve the episodes my brother and I created.’

But she couldn’t say that.

“You want to help others suffering because of Amos.”

Lantus looked at Yeo-ul thoughtfully.

He slowly raised his hand as if to pat Yeo-ul’s head for being so commendable.

Being praised by her favorite character was always delightful.

Yeo-ul was smiling when Lantus flicked her forehead lightly with his finger.

“Ow!”

Yeo-ul held her forehead, surprised, and looked up at Lantus. It didn’t hurt much, but she was still startled.

“I thought this little one was smart…….”

Lantus gritted his teeth.

“What? You want to help others? You’re willing to make an enemy of Amos for such a reason? You little thing! Do you know how dangerous that is?”

Lantus suddenly started yelling.

* * *

Lantus was the leader of all the wizards and the sole guardian of Wizardian.

He was the most hated enemy of Amos.

Amos was, in fact, a powerful opponent for Wizardian.

Amos was undeniably the strongest country on the continent.

No matter how skilled the individual wizards of Wizardian were, they were too few to stand against Amos and its allies.

So Wizardian devised a strategy.

A hit-and-run tactic.

Whenever Amos provoked them, Lantus would lead the wizards and strike back, repaying in kind.

To Amos, these were more like terrorist attacks.

Even with repeated provocations, Amos couldn’t easily start a war.

If a war broke out, they knew the wizards would never retreat.

The wizards would become a bomb, burning Amos to the ground until the last one fell.

Forcibly suppressing them would cause great damage to Amos as well.

So Amos pressured them by limiting the number of priests sent, rather than using military force.

Of course, Lantus always struck back whenever they did so.

Today, he came to Amos in another person’s body for the same reason.

Despite his hatred for Amos, Lantus was trying to stop Yeo-ul because becoming a doctor in Amos was too dangerous for a little child.

Though he was under attack, he had the power to endure or counter.

But Yeo-ul didn’t.

That innocent child would be crushed at Amos’s slightest touch.

“Never tell anyone else about your dream of becoming a doctor. You haven’t told anyone yet, right?!”

“Haha. No, today was the first time.”

Yeo-ul waved her hands, sweating from the ten-minute scolding.

Well, she knew that becoming a doctor was unrealistic.

She had impulsively said it, driven by the desire to solve the episodes she created with her brother.

Yeo-ul was not a doctor.

She couldn’t cure patients without professional knowledge.

‘But I know quite a few things that could help Lantus.’

She had learned a lot about medical advancements while planning the novel with her brother.

Like the discovery of penicillin, an antibiotic, or the introduction of aseptic surgery.

Game-changing events that saved humanity.

Introducing these here could be of great help.

Though she didn’t know the exact principles, she believed Lantus could figure it out.

He was the master of Wizardian, after all, able to turn vague ideas into perfect results.

That was how Song Jin-ul received help in the original story.

‘The problem is how to convey this naturally.’

She couldn’t tell them it was a novel.

Yeo-ul realized she was assuming this dream would continue, feeling strange.

“Leaving this innocent child here bothers me, and I can’t take you with me.”

Lantus sighed. It was time for him to leave.

“Give me your hand.”

“Huh?”

“Hurry. I have to go, so give me your hand.”

Yeo-ul hesitantly extended her hand.

Lantus rolled up her old hood sleeve and lightly held her wrist.

He muttered something softly.

After a moment, a tiny crescent moon mark appeared where he touched.

‘A crescent moon mark? What’s this?’

Yeo-ul tilted her head, puzzled. This wasn’t in the novel.

“This is a mark of protection from me, Lantus, the guardian of Wizardian and leader of all wizards. If you need me, call my name to this mark. I’ll come to you immediately.”

“Wow…… you will come yourself?”

Yeo-ul’s heart pounded with excitement at the unexpected gift.

Her favorite character promised to protect her.

She expected some reward, but not something this big.

“But didn’t you say your magic was sealed?”

“It just got unsealed. If it had taken longer, everyone would’ve been in trouble.”

Lantus, who had been smiling fiercely, placed his hand on Yeo-ul’s shoulder and looked her in the eye.

“Listen carefully, little one.”

The seriousness in Lantus’s eyes made Yeo-ul nervous.

“I repay both kindness and grudge tenfold. I’ll find you once this is over. A debt of life must be repaid properly.”

“……!”

“If you need my help before that, call me. Especially if Amos troubles you over debts.”

“What happens then?”

Lantus’s lips curled into a cold smile.

“I’ll crush them. I’ll make them regret ever touching you.”

A red gleam flickered ominously in his brown eyes.

“Anyone who dares touch my benefactor must be ready to see their whole family wiped out.”

With that, he disappeared.

* * *

‘Wow, this is the best!’

Back home, Yeo-ul rolled around on her bed.

‘I saved Lantus, I mean Lantus-nim! He even left me a mark!’

Her favorite character promised to protect her anywhere, anytime.

How could a fan be happier than this?

Recalling Lantus’s famous scenes from the novel, Yeo-ul’s smile turned a bit sad.

“This is so happy……. But it’s a dream. It will end soon…….”

When her real body dies, she will wake from this dream too.

The ECMO might be keeping her heart beating forcefully, but it wouldn’t last forever.

Looking at the crescent moon mark on her wrist, Yeo-ul clenched her fist lightly.

Unlike when she was in the hospital, she could move her hand freely.

Her voice trembled slightly.

“I wish this wasn’t a dream…….”

Every time she felt her healthy body, her heart sank.

The sensations were too vivid to be just a dream.

She was scared to think beyond that.

‘I don’t want to hope. I don’t want to be disappointed again.’

Her long illness was a cycle of hope and disappointment.

If it weren’t a dream, there were many things she wanted to do.

She wanted to help Lantus with the medical knowledge she had and visit Wizardian.

She wanted to meet other guardians and prevent the first timeline’s tragedies.

She wanted to make many friends and live happily, just like the protagonist.

“Stop, stop.”

Yeo-ul shook her head, shaking off her thoughts, and stood up energetically.

“Dream too big, Song Yeo-ul! Forget other dreams! Think about what to do before the dream ends.”

It would be nice to do something to help Lantus.

If she was lucky……

She might meet Lantus again before the dream ends.
