The Forsaken Destiny

Chapter 12: The Encounter

"That's enough!" I scolded, the eyes squeezed shut, the sense of vomiting swirling in my mouth.

The shadows retreated into his blade. Slowly opening my eyes, I saw the scientist, his body dripping with blood, though he was still alive and breathing. I glared at him, shooing him away before he literally faced death—the nightmare he'd inflicted on everyone in this broken-down society.

"Why did you release him?" Covyn's eyes narrowed, questioning me.

He fumed when he realized I'd ignored him. "I told you to capture him, not fucking kill him, you scumbag," I retorted. His eyes narrowed again; he fell silent for a moment, staring at me.

"Do you know I almost risked my life to catch him?" he complained.

"I didn't ask you to, you did it on your own."

"Now, give me that five bucks. And you owe me a hundred next time," he stated firmly, demanding more, which only increased my frustration.

I heaved a sigh and handed him the five bucks. He turned his back and walked away. I rolled my eyes, and my muscles tightened, making me clench my fist.

How I want to slash him to death and throw him away into the underworld where disgusting and terrifying demons live! That attitude of yours will never be fit for a warrior; you're more like a demon who gradually and slowly eats every bit of the hard work of the people in this town.

I made my way to the alley and walked through it until I reached the town. As usual, I heard the noise of people and others murmuring again about last night. Some of them seemed fine, but actually weren't, because some people in this town just fight their emotional turmoil before they lose their minds.

My eyes searched for my friends Claudia and Solari in the middle of the crowds. When my eyes could not spot them, I decided to make my way to my house. I twisted the doorknob and pushed it in before entering. There they were, talking like they were in the middle of nowhere.

They both paused when they felt my presence and turned their attention to me.

"Oh, where on earth were you again?" Claudia inquired, rolling her eyes.

I avoided her gaze. "Hmm, something important."

Claudia put her hands on her waist. "You know how dangerous the surroundings are." She started lecturing me again like I was a little kid. "Darcy, you shouldn't do that next time, and you're making me worried." She added, so I walked towards her and wrapped her in my arms.

"Don't worry," I patted her back. "I'll be fine, and I can protect myself."

Solari just watched us, her hands resting on her cheek, until we released each other from the embrace. "The apocalypse three is coming again, so get ready, my friend, for another dangerous adventure," Solari joked before she turned around and went to the bed, lying down.

I went to my table and grabbed some snacks. We only have limited food in this town since we are experiencing scarcity.I moved towards Claudia and threw a snack onto the bed where Solari was lying down. Solari startled but grabbed the snack and started to tear open the side of it. I shared the snack with Claudia, and she put her finger inside the plastic before slowly pulling up her hand as she placed the piece of snack in her mouth.

Solari spoke. "Darcy, does Covyn still bother you?"

Upon hearing that name, my mood shifted immediately. I felt like my head was a volcano about to erupt.

"Please, stop mentioning that." I sharply responded, not even bothering to glance at her direction.

"I didn't mean to do that."

I took a deep breath. "It's fine."

I silently picked up one piece of snack and placed it inside my mouth before chewing it. This is an ordinary day for everyone, and outside we heard again the crowds' noise.

The sky turned dark again, and people started heading home, closing all the doors and windows. A long, loud howling could be heard from a distance again. Those howling sounds, they used that to communicate with each other until we heard howls from different directions.

We heard a deep, cracked sound of laughter nearby. "Where are those demon hunter warriors?" a demon queried in a deep voice.

Damn these demons, my body was wanting to get the sword appearing in front of them and slash them in seconds.

---

I exhaled heavily and went towards the bed, pulling the box forward. I opened the box and picked up the sword, resting it on my hand. Then, I saw the sword emit a light and mirror my appearance. A violet energy quickly swirled around me, transforming into the appearance that matched the blade.

I lifted myself up, and air quickly circulated around me until I disappeared, traveling to another location. My lips curled up into a smile involuntarily, without me noticing, as I slowly gazed up at the demon in front of me. Other demon hunters jumped down from the roofs, landing behind me.

"Demon hunters and huntresses arrived with this lady who's back," the demon uttered evilly, his eyes darkening, showing his sharp teeth.

I chuckled in frustration. "Finally, you showed up." My mouth spoke out of control, as if someone was opening it and making me move with strings in their hand.

"Long time no see, violet huntress," the demon sneered, glancing at us sharply.

The demon closed his eyes, sniffing up to his nose. "I can feel all the fears of all people in this town," he pronounced mockily, until the other demons arrived, running towards this direction.

I really can't imagine that it would turn out like this, and I guess this night would be inevitable. Everyone would be almost losing all their sanities again. This event is such unbearable and not healthy for everyone, especially for those young people who will witness such harsh and traumatic incidents.
