The Former Marine

Chapter 42: Chapter 55-56-57

Chapter 55: Confessions

The soft sound of the private jet's turbines filled the air, creating a calm and exclusive atmosphere as the Kardashian-Jenner family flew towards Medellin. The mansion where they would spend the next few days awaited them with all the luxury and comfort they could wish for. Derek, next to Kylie, was settled in one of the comfortable leather seats, with Stormi and Aire nearby, busy with toys and coloring books. Kylie smiled at how calm the children were, as she looked out the plane window at the clouds outside.

On the other side of the jet, Kendall, always the most curious and attentive to details, leaned forward a little, her curious gaze fixed on Derek. Ever since she learned more about his past as a Special Forces operator and his connections with the CIA and NSA, her mind had been restless. She knew that Derek, despite seeming like a quiet person now, had had a life full of secrets and adventures. And of course, her natural curiosity wouldn't let her keep quiet about it.

"Derek," she began, moving her fingers thoughtfully. "I've been doing some research on these special operations teams. I read about something called 'Omega' operations…teams that work directly for the CIA and, if caught, are basically disowned by the American government. Have you…done any of those kinds of missions?"

All eyes turned to Derek. Kim, Kourtney, and Khloé stopped talking for a moment, curious to hear the answer. Kris, ever the attentive matriarch, looked at Derek with interest and a hint of concern. Kylie, who knew part of Derek's past, knew that this question touched on a part of his life that he rarely spoke about openly.

Derek looked at Kendall for a moment, his eyes weighing the best way to answer her question. He knew that, being who he was now a public figure associated with one of the most famous families in the world there were certain stories that couldn't be told in detail. But he wasn't one to hide what he'd been through, at least not from those close to him. He took a deep breath and then smiled at the corner of his mouth.

"Yes, Kendall," he replied calmly. "I've done missions like that before. Omega operations are… complicated. We operate under the direction of the CIA, but if something goes wrong, we don't have official government backing. Basically, we're on our own."

Kendall's eyes widened, intrigued.

"But… what was it like? What did you do?"

Derek smiled again, knowing he couldn't go into too much detail. Instead, he reached for his phone and started looking for a photo he'd saved, something that might answer her curiosity without compromising what he couldn't tell her.

He swiped his finger across the screen for a few moments until he found the image he was looking for. When he found it, he showed the phone to everyone. The image showed Derek almost unrecognizable. He was bearded, his face tanned from the sun, and wearing typical Afghan clothing. On his chest, he carried a rifle and was surrounded by mountains, the arid landscape of a distant land.

"This picture was taken during one of those missions," Derek said, watching his family react. "I was undercover for weeks, operating deep in Afghanistan. My mission was… complicated. I can't tell you the details, but it was part of one of those operations where if something had gone wrong, you probably would have never heard of me."

Kendall stared at the photo in fascination. "Wow," she whispered, "you really do look like someone out of a spy movie. I would never have recognized you."

"That was the whole point," Derek said, shrugging. "On missions like this, being recognized is the least of your problems. You have to be invisible, to blend in completely. And that takes a lot more than just a change of clothes. It's a complete transformation."

Kylie glanced at the photo over Derek's shoulder, admiring and a little worried. She knew Derek had been through some dangerous times, but seeing him like that, in such a risky situation, brought up a sense of apprehension.

"How long were you on that mission?" Kylie asked, her voice low and soft.

"Almost a month," Derek replied, putting his phone back in his pocket. "It was intense. There were days when I didn't know if I was going to make it out alive. But that's part of the job. You train for this, to withstand the pressure, to make the right decisions even when everything around you seems to be falling apart."

Kris, who had been silent for most of the conversation, finally spoke up. "That must have been a terrible experience, Derek. I really admire what you did for your country, but as a mother, I can only imagine how hard that would be for anyone to go through."

Derek nodded, understanding Kris's perspective. "That's true, Kris. It's not easy. But at the time, I didn't have anyone waiting for me. The job was all I had. Now… now it's different."

He glanced at Kylie and then at Stormi and Aire, who were still playing around nonchalantly.

Kim, ever the practical one, crossed her arms and looked at Derek with a mix of curiosity and skepticism.

"So if you were caught, the government would just… deny your existence?"

Derek paused before answering.

"Basically, yes. In operations like this, you don't carry any documents, nothing that would identify you as an American. If something goes wrong, you're considered a compromised asset, and the government washes its hands of it."

Kendall still seemed to be processing all of this.

"So you're, like, the real-life Jason Bourne," she said with a playful smile, but at the same time with a hint of truth in her voice.

Derek laughed. "I'm not Jason Bourne. But, yeah, some of the things he does in the movies… are closer to reality than people realize."

The conversation trailed off as the jet continued its route toward Medellín. The family was clearly shocked, but at the same time respectful of Derek's boundaries when it came to talking about his past. The life of a spy and Special Forces operator was a distant and dangerous reality that few understood completely, but everyone there knew that it was part of who Derek was.

Kylie, always sensitive to Derek's emotions, gently ran her hand through his and smiled.

"Well, now you're here, with us. And that's what matters."

Derek looked at her, feeling the comfort of her words. "That's true," he replied, squeezing her hand lightly. "Now I'm exactly where I want to be."

And with that, the conversation ended, giving way to a sense of relief and anticipation for the peaceful and fun days they would spend together in Medellín. But the memory of past missions, covert operations and the dangers faced, would remain there, in the back of everyone's minds, as a reminder of how much Derek had already lived and overcome.

Chapter 56: Private Jet Revelations

As the private jet continued its journey towards Medellin, the conversation inside the plane, which had momentarily died down after Derek's revelation about his missions, heated up again. The Kardashian-Jenner family's curiosity about Derek's past seemed to know no bounds, and this time, it was Kim who decided to ask the next question.

Kim, always direct and with a sharp curiosity, looked at Derek, who was once again playing with Stormi and Aire on his lap, and asked:

"Okay, Derek, now I'm really curious. You mentioned this mission with the CIA, but... what other teams or agencies have you worked with? Because it seems like you've done it all."

Derek, who until that moment seemed to have relaxed a bit after the intense conversation about his mission in Afghanistan, sat up straighter in his chair. He sighed slightly, as if trying to organize the amount of experiences he had lived and where to start.

"Well, Kim," he began, looking around at everyone who was waiting attentively for his answer. "I've worked with several teams and agencies over the years. Each with their own specialties, their own ways of operating, but always with the same goal: to protect our countries and, of course, to ensure that certain threats were eliminated before they became too big."

Kourtney, who was standing next to Kim, raised an eyebrow. "So… how many agencies? And how secret are we talking about?"

Derek smiled, understanding that it was difficult for them to understand the scope of his work.

"Well, for starters, I worked with the CIA and the NSA, as you already know. The CIA is known to everyone, but not everyone knows that there is a specialized department within the CIA called SAD, Special Activities Division. They are the guys who do the operations that you never hear about in the news."

Kendall, still absorbing the information from the previous conversation, leaned forward.

"Like real-life spies?"

Derek nodded. "Exactly. I've been a part of a few of those operations. They're highly classified, and most of the people involved never receive public recognition."

Kim, intrigued, continued,

"What about other than the CIA and NSA? Have you worked with other international agencies?"

Derek paused, thinking about how to summarize what could easily be a long list of international collaborations.

"Yes, I've worked with MOSSAD, for example."

Kendall's eyes widened. "MOSSAD? The Israeli secret service?"

Derek smiled. "That's right. Israel has one of the most efficient intelligence services in the world. I've worked with them on a few missions involving terrorism in the Middle East. They're extremely precise and ruthless when it comes to protecting their country. It was an intense experience working alongside them."

Kim was silent for a moment, absorbing the information. "Wow… What about special teams? Like, operations forces?"

"Oh, yeah," Derek said, leaning back in his seat, now fully engaged in the conversation. "I've done operations with Delta Force, which is basically the US Army's equivalent of special operations like SEAL Team Six. I've also done missions with DEVGRU, which is the most famous unit of the SEALs. They were responsible for the mission that killed Osama bin Laden."

Kylie watched Derek with admiration, knowing that she was learning even more about the man she loved and how much he had lived before coming into her life. Stormi, now a little restless, shifted in Derek's lap, and he gently adjusted her before continuing.

"Also, I've worked with special forces from other countries. The SAS, from the UK, and the SBS, the British Navy's special operations unit. The SAS is legendary for counterterrorism and hostage rescue missions, while the SBS is more focused on naval operations, but both are incredible at what they do."

Kim shook her head in amazement. "You really worked with the best forces in the world, didn't you?"

Derek smirked. "It was an honor. Each of these groups is highly skilled, and the missions we carried out together were crucial to the safety of many people."

Kourtney, ever the more practical, asked, "So… what specifically did you do with these teams?"

Derek sighed, knowing he couldn't go into too much detail. "These operations vary greatly. Some involved rescues, others were eliminating terrorist threats before they could act. Sometimes we were searching for valuable information that could prevent major attacks. I can't tell you more."

Kendall, still fascinated, continued, "What about the Canadian Forces? I've heard that Canada has an incredible special force, too."

Derek smiled. "Yeah, I worked with JTF2, Canada's Joint Task Force 2. They're a highly classified and extremely capable special force. When Canada is involved in counterterrorism operations or hostage rescues, you can bet that JTF2 is there."

Kim looked at Derek with obvious admiration. "So you've basically worked with special forces from half the world. It must be surreal to look back and see all that you've done."

Derek shrugged, trying to maintain modesty. "It was an intense time, no doubt. Also, I worked with the United States Secret Service on some security operations. They're not just there to protect the president, you know? They also conduct covert missions related to internal and external threats."

Kris, always attentive to the family's well-being, intervened in a serious but also curious voice. "And did you ever fear for your life?"

Derek was silent for a moment, remembering the many times his life hung in the balance. "Yes, Kris, there were times when I thought I wouldn't make it home. But that's how it works in these operations. You have to trust your training and the men by your side."

The family was silent for a moment, reflecting on what he had said. Kylie looked at Derek with tenderness and admiration, lightly touching his hand. "I'm glad you made it through all of this and are here now, with us."

Derek smiled and kissed Kylie's forehead. "Me too, Ky. Me too."

The private jet continued its journey to Medellín, carrying with it not only one of the most famous families in the world, but also a man whose life stories seemed to come straight out of a spy movie. Derek's revelations continued to fascinate everyone, but he knew that, despite everything in the past, he was now exactly where he wanted to be: with his new family, making memories and living a new phase of his life.

Chapter 57: Medellín and Cultural Adventures

The private jet touched down smoothly on the runway at José María Córdova International Airport in Rionegro, just outside Medellín. The Kardashian-Jenner family, along with Derek, disembarked surrounded by the region's characteristic mountainous landscape, while the clear sky and fresh late afternoon air enveloped everyone.

"Medellín, finally!" Kendall exclaimed, stretching her arms as she exited the plane.

Kris, always with a business mindset, smiled at the surrounding landscape. "This city looks beautiful. And I hear it's one of the most innovative in South America."

Derek, carrying little Stormi on his shoulders, nodded. "It's an incredible city. Full of history, culture, and innovation. I'm sure you'll love it."

Kylie, standing next to him, holding Aire in her arms, looked at him with a fond smile. "You've been here before, right?"

Derek nodded. "Yes, a few times. And I can tell you're going to have some of the best food you've ever had."

Kim, clutching a large designer bag, looked around. "I hope we have time to shop and check out the local designers, too. I'm curious to see what Medellín's fashion scene has to offer."

The family was greeted by a team of staff who drove them to the luxurious mansion Kris had rented for their stay. As soon as the car dropped them off in front of the property, everyone was impressed. The mansion was modern, surrounded by tropical trees, with a panoramic view of Medellín.

"Wow," Khloé murmured as she looked around. "Kris, you really nailed this one."

The house was spacious, with glass walls that offered stunning views of the mountains and city below. The infinity pool seemed to blend into the skyline, creating a relaxing and sophisticated environment. Derek put Stormi down so she could run around the backyard with Aire, while Kylie watched her closely. He approached the family, still in awe of the beauty of the place.

"If you need anything while you're here, I can easily communicate with the locals. My Spanish is fluent, so don't worry."

Kendall looked at Derek with a mischievous smile. "Fluent, huh? We'll put that to the test soon. I want to see how you handle it."

Derek laughed confidently. "I won't disappoint."

After settling into the house, the family decided to head out to explore some of Medellín's most famous landmarks. Their first destination was Parque Arví, a natural retreat in the mountains that offered spectacular views of the city.

Derek, ever attentive, guided the family with ease, explaining details of the local culture as they walked along the trails.

"This place is so beautiful," Kylie commented, holding Stormi's hand as they gazed at the lush greenery.

Kris, ever practical, asked Derek, "And where do you suggest we go to try the local cuisine? I'm starving."

Derek smiled. "There are so many great places, but if you want to try something authentic, we have to try a bandeja paisa. It's the most traditional dish in Medellín."

"What's a bandeja?" Khloé asked curiously.

Derek explained, "It's a huge plate of rice, beans, ground beef, pork rinds, fried plantains, avocado, and egg. It's a real explosion of flavors."

Kim, always up for trying new things, smiled. "That sounds amazing. Let's go!"

On the way to the restaurant, they passed Plaza Botero, where massive statues by the famous Colombian artist Fernando Botero decorated the square. Kylie's sisters were mesmerized by Botero's unique art.

"Those sculptures are so funny!" Kendall said, laughing as she took a selfie next to one of the iconic statues.

Derek watched his family's enthusiasm fondly, feeling pleased to provide them with these new experiences. They finally arrived at the restaurant, a cozy, family-friendly place with wooden tables and traditional Colombian decor.

As they entered, Derek greeted the waiter in Spanish, ordering the house specialty. "Hola, buenas tardes. We would like to order several bandeja paisas, por favor."

Kris, impressed by Derek's fluency, couldn't help but smile. "You really have a command of the language, huh?"

Derek shrugged modestly. "I learned it during some missions in Latin America. It's part of the job."

When the bandeja paisas arrived, everyone was amazed at the size and abundance of food. "This is huge!" Khloé exclaimed, looking at the plate in front of her.

"Don't worry, we'll get it," Derek joked, starting to serve Kylie and the kids.

As the family enjoyed the local food, the conversation flowed easily. Kim, who had a more refined palate, was surprised by the robust flavors of the dish. "I have to admit, this is really good."

Kendall, ever the adventurer, made sure to try everything. "I could eat this every day."

After a long and satisfying lunch, Derek suggested they head back to the mansion to rest before exploring further. On the way back, they passed by the famous Comuna 13, a neighborhood that was once known for its violence but, thanks to community projects and street art, has become a symbol of resilience and hope.

Kylie, in awe of the colorful and vibrant murals, took several photos. "The art here is incredible. You can feel the energy of the community."

Derek agreed. "Comuna 13 is an example of how art can transform a place. You should take a tour here tomorrow to learn more about the history and challenges this place has faced."

Back at the mansion, the sun was beginning to set over the mountains, creating a breathtaking view. The children played in the pool, while the rest of the family relaxed on the terrace. Kylie approached Derek, who watched the children with a loving gaze.

"You did an amazing job guiding us today," Kylie said, laying her head on Derek's shoulder.

He smiled and kissed her on the forehead.

"It's easy when I'm with you guys. Medellín is a special place, and I'm happy to share that with your family."

Kris, who was standing across the terrace with a glass of wine, looked at Derek and Kylie with a pleased look.

"Derek, you really brought something unique to our lives. We're loving this trip."

Derek nodded. "I appreciate you making me so welcome. I'm enjoying every moment, too."

As night fell over Medellín, the Kardashian-Jenner family enjoyed the calm and beauty of the city, with Derek by their side, providing not only safety and comfort, but also a new sense of adventure and cultural discovery. This trip promised to be one of the most memorable they had ever taken together.
