Chapter 35 - Deal (3)
I glanced out the window and asked, “What’s the level of the enemies?”
At my question, Precia’s face slightly reddened as if embarrassed.
“Unless there’s someone among them who can deceive my senses… I can handle them sufficiently on my own.”
For the humble Precia to make such an assertion meant that, as I expected, among those who came to kill me, there was no one whose name I would recognize.
As expected, it seems that even the executives of Arcana in the kingdom are too busy trying to prevent the Queen from being deposed.
It was my scheme, but fortunately, it worked well.
Even if a named high-ranking executive of Arcana with a ‘number’ came, I had made various preparations to escape somehow, but honestly, I was anxious.
Relieved that there were no Numbers, I asked Gilbert, who was tensely drawing his sword.
“Precia, in your eyes, what’s the level of Gilbert’s martial prowess?”
At my question, Precia answered immediately without much thought.
“Lower than an ordinary soldier.”
At the harsh evaluation, Gilbert made a depressed face.
“Precisely.”
“His overall physical abilities such as strength, stamina, and agility surpass a typical knight, and his swordsmanship is more structured than I thought. However, he has no real combat experience at all.”
“Is he capable of dealing with the enemies?”
This time, after contemplating for a moment, she answered, “If he does well, he might be able to handle one enemy.”
Good, Gilbert can’t be trusted.
I instructed Navi and Nuni through thought transmission to protect me and said, “Is that so? Leave one for Gilbert. There’s no better growth factor than real combat, right?”
At my words, Precia nodded, and Gilbert became even more nervous.
“Ah, when you deal with the enemies, can you make it seem like they fought each other in a chaotic battle and annihilated each other as much as possible?”
Since there were other escorts anyway, I wanted to hide Precia’s skills.
“It’s possible.”
The screams of the soldiers and knights gradually became less frequent. It seemed my guards had been wiped out.
Tsk tsk, that’s why those who rose through internal politics are useless.
“Good, deal with my enemies.”
With my permission, Precia kicked the carriage door open and went out.
“Kill them! Don’t leave a single one alive!”
“It’s just a little girl! Quickly deal with her and securely capture Prince Yuan!”
The masked enemies pounced on Precia, exuding murderous intent.
However, Precia’s figure blurred and disappeared, and suddenly, five enemies collapsed, spewing blood.
If Precia hadn’t reappeared, swinging her sword and flicking off the blood, they might have thought their heads just fell off on their own.
So she wasn’t serious when she faced Arisa.
No, even that’s not her being serious.
“Did you see?”
At my question, Gilbert swallowed his saliva and shook his head.
“I somehow saw up to the third one, but I lost track after that. I’m sorry.”
Ah, is that so? To me, it just looked like she teleported.
I patted Gilbert’s shoulder and opened the carriage door.
“It’s okay. With time, you’ll be able to do it too.”
To be precise, I’ll make you able to do it. Although the process won’t be easy.
Gilbert nodded resolutely, perhaps thinking my words were meant to comfort him.
“I’ll do my best!”
When I got out of the carriage, the nearly twenty assassins had all been subdued except for one.
Still, as I’m quite an important target, they must have sent carefully selected individuals, yet they were subdued so easily.
Precia seemed impressive all over again.
“I have completed your order.”
Precia tried to speak as calmly as possible, but her voice trembled slightly.
Is that so? Is this her first time killing?
Although she was thoroughly trained by Horazon, Precia was still a fifteen-year-old girl.
I was too insensitive.
I approached Precia, hugged her, and stroked her head.
“Good work. If it weren’t for you, I would have died today. Thank you.”
This small comfort was all I could offer.
If I had known this would happen, I should have fought together with her. I felt a bit of regret, but even if I participated in the battle, I would have only been a hindrance.
I need to become stronger after all. At least to the point where I don’t hold her back.
“…No. I just… did my duty as a knight.”
Even as she said that, Precia buried her face in my chest.
After a few minutes, perhaps having calmed down, Precia separated from me with a flushed face.
“I’m sorry. I showed an unsightly side of myself.”
“No, if that’s unsightly, I want to keep seeing it.”
Because it was cute.
“Y-Your Highness!”
When I playfully teased her, Precia’s face turned even redder.
I patted Precia’s head once more and said to Gilbert, “Now, it’s time for real combat. Are you ready?”
“Yes!”
Gilbert held a dwarf-made sword, not a cheap iron sword.
Seeing that he seemed ready, I stepped back and signaled to Precia with my eyes.
“Urgh!”
When Precia hit the back of the head of the unconscious assassin with a mana-infused fist, the assassin woke up with a pained cry.
“Eek!”
Seeing Precia, the assassin panicked and tried to run away, but when his arm was twisted and a blade was pressed against his neck, he gave up on escaping.
I sat on the carriage entrance and asked the assassin, “Do you want to live?”
At my question, the assassin’s eyes wavered. When the assassin didn’t answer, Precia twisted his arm.
“Ugh!”
“Answer His Highness’s question.”
“I-I want to live!”
He was clearly terrified.
He’s a failure as an assassin. An assassin should promptly commit suicide by swallowing a poison pill hidden in their mouth when captured.
Well, in reality, it’s rare for a lunatic to do such a thing unless they’re a fanatic or have their family taken hostage.
Everyone values their own life.
I smiled at such an assassin.
“I’ll tell you a way you might be able to live. Fight and win against this guy.”
When I pointed to Gilbert, the assassin swallowed his saliva.
“Then at least you won’t die by the hands of the person subduing you.”
At my words, the assassin was conflicted.
“R-Really?”
“Really. You can think of it as my entertainment. Will you do it or not?”
As the blade pressed against his neck cut into his skin, the assassin shouted desperately.
“I-I’ll do it!”
It seemed he was confident he could escape if it weren’t for Precia.
“Good. If you want to run, then run. Of course, only if you’re confident you can escape.”
When I nodded, Precia released the arm she had been twisting.
The assassin, his hands free, picked up a sword.
He glanced at me for a moment but soon focused on Gilbert.
I think he considered assassinating me, but given the distance, he probably calculated that he would be killed by Precia before even reaching me if he attempted an assassination.
The assassin and Gilbert glared at each other and then charged at one another.
Clang!
The assassin swung his sword, aiming for Gilbert’s neck, and Gilbert deflected the assassin’s sword and swung with force.
Pushed back by Gilbert’s strength, the assassin retreated greatly and drew a dagger to throw it.
Surprised by the sudden flying dagger, Gilbert made the mistake of deflecting it with his sword.
The assassin stabbed Gilbert’s side, taking advantage of his distraction with the dagger.
“Ugh!”
Gilbert, despite his surprise, grabbed his scabbard and deflected the sword.
Perhaps because it was a dwarf-made scabbard, it didn’t even get scratched by an ordinary sword.
“There was a lapse in judgment, but his quick thinking is good. However, his movements are still stiff.”
Precia closely observed Gilbert’s movements and identified areas for improvement.
Let’s offer a silent prayer in advance for Gilbert, who will die in Precia’s hellish training.
“It seems they’re both about to use their full power now.”
As soon as Precia finished speaking, the assassin and Gilbert drew upon mana and began swinging their swords.
Bluish and brown mana condensed on their respective swords as they engaged in a fierce battle.
Watching the battle, Precia exclaimed in admiration, “This is the first time I’ve seen someone grow in real-time like that.”
At Precia’s words, I also tried to observe Gilbert’s movements closely, but I still couldn’t quite tell.
Come to think of it, I noticed that the assassin, who had been leisurely facing Gilbert at first, was gradually having a hard time avoiding Gilbert’s sword.
“As expected of you, Your Highness. When you first brought in Gilbert, I thought it might be out of sympathy, but you recognized his talent at a glance.”
“Uh… That’s right! Absolutely.”
I laughed awkwardly at Precia’s admiration.
Honestly, I could tell he was fighting well, but I wasn’t sure if he had the level of talent that even Precia would acknowledge.
The battle between the assassin and Gilbert was no longer just evenly matched. Even I could tell that Gilbert was starting to press the attack.
Just as Gilbert was about to thrust his sword, aiming for the assassin’s weak point, the assassin twisted his body and threw dirt into Gilbert’s eyes.
“Ugh!”
As Gilbert faltered, not expecting the sudden dirt throw, the assassin swung his sword, aiming for his neck.
“Stop!”
At my shout, Precia intervened, blocked the assassin’s sword, and subdued the assassin again.
Subdued once more, the startled assassin looked at me.
“Hey, this isn’t what we agreed on!”
Tsk, an assassin demanding an agreement. He has no conscience.
“The condition I stated was to win, not to kill.”
At my words, the assassin swallowed his saliva and glanced at Precia.
That’s right, the scary one isn’t me, but Precia.
I chuckled and said to Precia, “Let him go.”
“Will that be alright?”
“It’s fine.”
At my instruction, Precia put away her sword as if she had no choice.
“Get lost. We won’t see each other again.”
At my words, the assassin, who had been gauging the situation, started running away without looking back.
“How was it? Did you realize your lack of experience?”
At my question, Gilbert became gloomy as he removed the dirt from his eyes.
“…Yes. I still have a long way to go.”
“Yes, now that you know, that’s enough. To protect me, you just need to become stronger.”
I took out the specially commissioned stone bow and arrowheads from the ingredient warehouse.
Then I drew the bowstring, fixed an arrowhead instead of a stone, and aimed at the fleeing assassin.
“Navi, adjust wind direction and speed, correct trajectory. Nuni, charge 50 mana.”
At my command, Navi and Nuni drew out my mana and used their powers.
“Three, two, one, fire!”
As I pulled the trigger, the arrowhead was launched and passed through the black tube made of rubber.
At the same time, Nuni, the lightning spirit, applied an electric current to the copper wire embedded in the tube, rapidly accelerating the arrowhead passing through the tube.
Swish!
The arrowhead, accelerated to supersonic speed, deeply embedded itself in the assassin’s head, following the wind path prepared by Navi.
“Hmm, with this much mana, it barely surpasses the speed of sound.”
The stone bow I specially crafted was, in a sense, a coilgun.
By the way, if the projectile speed is just slightly above the speed of sound, it’s only about the level of a handgun bullet at best.
Thanks to that, there’s almost no recoil, which is good, but the power is lacking.
I thought the arrowhead would penetrate, not just embed itself.
Well, the insufficient power will increase exponentially the more mana I use on Nuni, so I can gradually adjust the optimal amount.
For now, I’ll be satisfied with this much.
But the gazes of the two people looking at me were intense.
“What? I said I’d give him a chance to live, not that I’d let him live. It’s his fault for not seizing the opportunity.”
At my brazen words, Gilbert looked at Precia, and Precia said as if encouraging him, “You’ll get used to it.”
Get used to what?
For a moment, I had a question, but we had to hurry and fabricate the scene and quickly leave the place.
I took out the syringes containing the special drugs manufactured by Divet and the evidence that would link to the Queen, which I had prepared in advance from the ingredient warehouse.
It’s time to fabricate evidence according to the deal with the King.
