Chapter 5: The Academy
"Kya!"
"For the love of God, Hera. What the fu-"
Jake's sentence was interrupted when he saw the scene in front of him. Elyna stood in front of them in a sweater that was too big for her. No. That wasn't what made Hera scream with joy. Even though Elyna didn't say anything, Jake and Hera could smell their alpha's scent from the sweater that Elyna was wearing.
Val had prepared clothes that fit Elyna. He also deliberately ordered Hera to help Elyna change clothes because she was unfamiliar with modern clothing styles. However, of all the beautiful clothes available, Elyna prefers to wear a simple shirt covered with Val's sweater.
Elyna wears shoes like ordinary humans. But perhaps because she had never worn shoes before, she looked uncomfortable. Elyna stood up nervously. Every once in a while, her hand lifted to let the edge of her sweater sleeve come closer to her nose.
People say their partner's scent can make them feel calm. It seemed effective because Elyna was no longer too nervous, even if she had to wear uncomfortable clothes without Val's company.
Feeling noticed, Elyna gave Jake a confused look. Jake quickly looked away. He was embarrassed because he had been caught staring at his alpha's mate without blinking.
"Jake? Do I look weird?"
Jake smiled wryly. The man kept trying to run away from the fact that Elyna belonged to his alpha alone.
"I... look weird, right?" Elyna whispered. Her face, which was originally red, slowly faded. Her eyes were sad. At that moment, Jake realized that Elyna had developed a habit of thinking that everyone didn't like her.
Seeing the cute -cough- Luna sad, Hera hurriedly cupped Elyna's cheeks and then turned to glare at Jake.
"Eh~ you're so cute, Luna! Believe in yourself!" Hera coaxed. Elyna's eyes watched Hera. She slowly nodded and then followed Hera to leave the room from her room.
Other people's reactions, of course, weren't much different from Jake's. Their mouths were agape, watching Elyna with shocked faces.
When Elyna first arrived, she was so dirty and pathetic that people failed to catch the beautiful face behind her long hair. The first dinner was the same. Elyna always looked down or hid behind Val, so no one could see her properly.
Only when her hair was straightened could they see Elyna's face properly. Because not everyone knows that Elyna is only half werewolf, people can only see that their alpha partner is a lovely girl.
Feeling watched for, Elyna walked closer to Hera, someone she thought was good and safe to approach. Seeing Elyna's reaction made Hera chuckle. The girl enthusiastically grabbed Elyna's hand to walk next to her without feeling afraid or inferior.
"Hey... it's okay. You don't have to be afraid anymore, Luna. Everyone's nice in this place," Hera coaxed. Zen had explained everything to the core pack members. Since Elyna came from a primitive pack that lived in the middle of the forest, living in the city and mixing with humans must have been mentally taxing for her.
Val had asked everyone to treat Elyna well. Their mission was to get Elyna used to humans and the modern civilization they lived in.
Hera led Elyna to the basement of their building while Jake just followed behind her.
"You will leave with our alpha on the first day. We will be behind you in another car," Hera explained. Elyna's eyes were slightly happy when she heard her alpha's name being debuted. Even if Val didn't talk much, Elyna only felt the safest when she was beside the man.
Beside a jet-black car that was parked differently from the other luxury cars stood Val, who occasionally looked at his watch. He stopped looking annoyed when he caught Elyna's figure walking shyly towards him. Meanwhile, the two core members smiled mischievously, seeing their alpha pack also fascinated when they saw Elyna.
"Alpha, sorry we took a while. Earlier... Luna refused to wear shoes," Hera explained. Hearing this made Elyna's cheeks flush red. Already embarrassed, Elyna rubbed the expensive shoes she was wearing and then made an excuse.
"That... I'm not used to wearing these things on my feet," Elyna muttered. Her hands, which were buried in her clothes, were moving indefinitely, a sign that Elyna was nervous because Val kept staring at her.
Val noticed that. He didn't say anything but turned to look at Hera.
"Why did you put my sweater on her?"
Hera smiled. Since the beginning, she had been waiting for Val to ask her about it.
"It seems that to feel comfortable, Luna prefers to wear clothes that have your pheromones in them."
Val took a deep breath. He looked at Elyna, who was looking at him expectantly, then turned to open the front passenger door of his car.
"Get in. If smelling my pheromones makes you feel comfortable, I'll release more in your wardrobe," he said.
"Thank you!"
Elyna smiled. Val's calming scent was what she wanted most right now.
Because she felt good, Elyna got into the car without any caution. But still. As soon as she entered the car, her gaze did not stop looking at every corner of it.
"Put on your seatbelt."
Before driving, Val did not forget to help Elyna put on her seatbelt. Val, who suddenly approached, made Elyna's heart beat faster. Smelling Val's scent directly was better than anything.
The car started moving after Val made sure Elyna was comfortable, making Elyna's eyes round cutely in surprise.
"This is a car. It takes you away faster than walking or running," Val explained briefly. He knew it must be Elyna's first time riding a vehicle. Of course, she didn't even know about shampoo and the bathroom.
Elyna nodded enthusiastically. As soon as she got out of the building area, her eyes couldn't leave the city view.
Elyna's mouth opened slightly without realizing it because of the amazement of what she saw around her. Her eyes didn't even blink, seeing the sea of people that she kept passing. Val, who usually rested his chin while waiting for the red light, now had new entertainment. Seeing Elyna enthusiastically in his car.
Throughout the journey, Val doesn't realize that the corners of his lips are slightly raised because of Elyna's innocent reaction of being amazed by everything.
The car stopped right in front of a large parking lot of an academy. Many students were hanging around there, making Elyna, who was initially happy, swallow her saliva nervously again.
Elyna wanted to get out but was too afraid that the humans would lock her up again in the narrow place and torture her.
When Elyna started to worry, she didn't realize that Val had gone out first. Val opened the door for Elyna. His hand held Elyna's hand gently. Val pulled her out after she saw Elyna's reluctance to get out of the car.
Even though Val focused on looking forward after holding her hand, Elyna was still able to feel a sense of security from the link between their hands. Elyna walked with a smile on her lips. That made several students, who initially only turned to look at the two of them, could no longer look away.
Val took Elyna to the headmaster's room. Val opened the door to the room there without permission, greeted by the friendly smile of the man who looked like he was in his mid-thirties.
"I heard that the child you specially brought today is your mate. Val, does your pack only accept attractive people?"
The man said in a friendly tone. One thing that Elyna noticed was that the man in front of her was a werewolf, just like her.
"I think you've gotten a copy of her background from Zen," Val said. The man nodded his head. The pack member who came this time was so special that he had to be careful when deciding what classes she could take throughout her education.
"I've arranged her class schedule so that it won't be too burdensome for her. The problem is that not all of her classes can be attended by Hera, Jake, or Eir. Should I change their schedules? Someone needs to always accompany her, right?"
Val shook his head in response. "Both Hera and Jake are busy people. Even if we change their schedules, they won't be able to attend all of the classes. I've talked to Eir. You can adjust her schedule since she's relatively more free compared to the others."
"Alright. Then, let's go to Eir's class first," the man's smile widened. He then extended his hand to introduce himself to Elyna.
Elyna, on the other hand, didn't understand what the outstretched hand meant. Her body shrank further into Val's back. A sign that she didn't feel completely safe yet.
Val grabbed Elyna's back gently. Pulling her forward and holding her hand carefully.
"He invites you to get to know each other. Come with him. He will look after you while you go to this academy."
Hearing Val's calming voice, Elyna nodded. Her hand reached out slowly. Elyna tried to look at the man, even if she was nervous to death.
"Elyna..." she whispered.
"My name is Brian. Nice to meet you, Elyna," he said friendly.
Elyna finally smiled a little when she knew Brian was a good man who would not harm her.
"Now, are you ready to go to your first class?"
Elyna glanced at Val again. Which gives a gesture that everything will be fine.
Elyna was taken out with directions from Brian. Her heart was beating fast, remembering that she had to be separated from Val.
