The Dungeon Tree

Chapter 34: Ocean Man

It was quiet, too quiet. I stayed on guard if anyone tried to attack us but nothing happened. As we ran towards the base I could hear a distinct noise.

"Does anybody else hear the sound of water?" I asked. Everyone turned towards me and nodded. I kept my gaze towards where the noise was and finally saw it. A giant wave was coming right at us and there was a person riding it.

Julia let out a small laugh and walked towards the wave. I watched as she smashed her hammer into the ground which somehow changed the ground around us to go above the wave.

"A magic user that has a weapon for a hammer? The only person I know who uses a hammer and can use magic is... is that you Julia?" The man riding the wave said. He began to smile and waved at Julia.

"I recognize that voice, Wave? Why are you here of all places?" Julia asked. I looked at Ashe to see if he had an answer for what was going on but he shrugged.

I let out a sigh and removed my blade from its sheath. Wave caught notice of this and shot water towards the direction of my sword, knocking it out of my hand.

"I'm not trying to fight you so stay out of this. I want to fight Julia in a one-on-one so we can see what is more powerful. I want to know if ocean is stronger than land." Wave said. I finally ended up noticing a weapon he had on his back. He was carrying a trident. I picked up my sword and put it back into its sheath.

"Steven and Ashe, let's leave this to Julia. This looks like something personal which I don't want to be involved in." I said. Steven and Ashe both nodded and we were about to continue running towards the base but somehow forgot about the huge wave in front of us.

"Hey Julia? We're really high up and if we were to jump down it would hurt like hell. Wave, could you please remove your wave? If you don't we'll be stuck here and most likely get in your way." Steven asked.

Wave and Julia looked at each other and shrugged. The ground began to lower and the water began to disappear. I let out a sigh of relief and began running.

The base was right in front of us. As we got closer and closer I noticed a girl standing on the roof of the building looking down at us. I stopped and put my arms out to stop Steven and Ashe. The girl jumped down and kept her face lowered.

The girl raised her head and looked me in the eyes. I noticed that her ears resembled cat ears. She noticed that I was staring at them and threw a knife at me just barely missing my head.
