Chapter 268: The Power of Wind
"I'm out of mana so you'll have to deal with this guy by yourself for a bit. Sorry!" John looked over at me with an apologetic expression.
"Don't apologize to me you selfless idiot. You've done more than enough." I responded, looking away from John and turning towards the monster.
Using my left hand, I readjusted my tie before flicking my hat upwards by a bit so I could get a good long look at the beast. Strong winds began to whirl around me as I approached the monster. This monster had rendered my right arm useless for the time being and I was going to make sure I got payback.
"Allow me to show you why most mages call air the most versatile magical element!" I said, raising my left hand and aiming towards the monster.
The powerful winds around me began to move in front of my hand, creating a large sphere containing razor sharp winds. As soon as the monster realized what I was doing, it began moving around at speeds that were almost impossible to track. As the monster jumped off the surface of debris, I stood there with a smile and aimed my left hand towards where the monster was heading.
"Pull!" I made the motion of pulling the very air in front of me towards me.
Mid motion, the monster was launched towards me along with some of the surrounding debris. Despite the winds cutting slashing away at the monster, it pushed through the pain and readjusted itself to strike me once I was in its range. Before the monster could get close enough, I pointed my pointer finger upward and made a spinning gesture with it.
"Rising Tornado." I said with a smile.
The wind carrying the monster came to a sudden stop, leaving the monster suspended in the air. The area became dead silent, only broken up by John letting out a small cough in the distance. Right as the silence was broken, the wind surrounding the monster changed into a spiral shape, sending all of the debris dragged by the wind to crash into the monster.
"So when does the "Rising" part of the spell's name come into play?" John asked, still laying down in the distance.
"Right about… now!" The tornado began moving upward, dragging the monster along with all the debris.
The winds continued to slash away at the monster, causing it to let out painful cries as it floated in the sky.
"I think you're high enough now. Plummet." My smirk faded as I pointed my finger towards the ground.
The tornado that once carried the monster had changed into fierce winds that blew straight down, sending the monster straight into the ground along with all the debris. The impact of the crash created a small dust cloud that hid the monster.
"Better to play it safe just in case." I aimed my left hand, creating another air sphere so I could finish off the monster.
Before I could finish creating the sphere, the monster jumped out from the dust and moved in towards my neck. Right when the monster should've made contact with my neck, a small glint of side appeared from my peripheral vision. A katana suddenly flew in and redirected the monster's attack, leaving the monster open to my spell.
"Talk about good luck. See ya!"
Using this chance, I released all the stored up wind and launched it towards the monster. The power of the wind tore through the monster's body, creating a massive hole in the monster's chest which killed it instantly.
"Yeah I'd say that makes us even now. Now why did a katana just fly in out of nowhere?"
"Sorry. That was me dislodging myself from the ground. Thanks to your wind magic I was able to free myself." A voice called out.
I looked over at where the voice had come from and saw the katana from earlier laying on the ground next to John, "d-did that sword just talk?"
"Yeah!" John shouted.
"What?!" I looked over at John and was about to ask him all kinds of questions but was interrupted by the ground violently shaking below the area.
"Please don't tell me there's another monster coming." John groaned.
